Small volume rotary evaporator

Small volume rotary evaporator features an evaporator flask with a range from 0.25 L to 2 L that allows processing of very small or limited amount of sample. It comprises an intelligent digital temperature control mode which features a temperature range from RT to 399 °C. PTFE fluoro rubber enables efficient sealing that ensures safety and increases the heat resistance of the operation and the instrument.

So, was a little curious. From what I understand this rotary evaporator consists of three units. They are as follows:

-RE-111 Rotavapor unit (Discontinued 1993)

-B-011 Servo jack unit (?)

-B-461 Waterbath unit (Discontinued 1993)

These units seem to all be discontinued and Büchi (manufacturers) no longer sells spare parts for these units. Like our lab has two of these lying around because they aren’t functional. It might be a part that has worn on them but it can only be replaced with parts from other units that have been manufactured. Makes me wonder about how many labs are operating on the backs of these dated equipments/machines that are slowly dying out, waiting to be replaced.

Here is a rotary evaporator. Was incredibly nervous to use it but it was surprisingly simple once demonstrated how to use. There is a pressure pump off to the side that allows you to change the pressure to a specific target. Took a few days though to evaporate off all the solvents

Side note: Toluene fucking reeks. Ew. Also my goofy ass was getting impatient with the evaporation of the toluene so I thought, maybe just increase the pressure a little bit? Bad idea. The contents of the flask ended up bumping and a tiny amount of sample scattered into the system. Just trust the process

Extracting red raspberry pulp phenols today. I am ridiculously in love with this rotavapor equipment. Making my life easier!

After all the methanol is gone, the raspberry pulp liquid will go in the ion exchange column to remove sugars and fibers. Then I have a pure pulp polyphenol sample for my experiments!
