I will say I have mostly had a positive experience on this app(oddly enough lol) but like even when I do get hate it’s always the most vague unintelligible jumble of words. Like girl, respectfully, I have no idea what you’re talking about. And it’s always also Just hate, not even a critique, totally unnecessary. Like you could’ve 100% just blocked me? Or even commented that and THEN blocked me(which they never do???) and it’s always for THE WEIRDEST SHIT.
And then, for the ones that aren’t anonymous, I check their blog and they always have the most curdled ass takes. The most recent one where I looked at their blog they literally had a post saying there wasn’t enough white straight males as protagonists anymore like GIRL ?!
“You lost me the moment….” GIRLIE I DIDNT WANT YOU

“Most guys, they look at the date.” He manages to make it sound both admiring and chiding. Oscar is very quickly losing control of this conversation. “Do you make a habit of just giving your license out? To every stranger you meet?” “Only those I really like.”
The So-Called Narrative - 10k - 🔥
“It’s annoying. Whatever. They’re not going to stop.” “Not if you keep hating on me.” “I don’t hate you,” Oscar says, a little too hastily. “Hating on me.” Carlos’ lopsided smile is amused, too knowing for comfort. “They’re two different things.”
Stars Are Blind - 19k - 🔥
“Not so bad for a virgin. Right?” Alex says to Oscar as they shake hands after the match. His face immediately scrunches up. Their palms stay connected over the net as they stare at each other. They are both deer caught in the headlights. The cringiest longest handshake of Oscar's life. “What?” “What.” Alex answers, not like a question, just a statement.
It ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race - 38k - ❤️🔗🔥
He waits on the line for way too long before Carlos’ voice finally seeps through his speakers, a deadpanned “What?” accompanied by a loud background noise almost covering it completely. “It’s Oscar.” He says, tapping his knee nervously. “I know, I can read my screen, Piastri. I was just hoping it wouldn’t actually be you.” Carlos snorts. Initially, Oscar had been slightly ashamed of having to hunt down their old group chat to find Carlos’ number, especially when he had noticed it was the only one not saved in his contacts. Now, though, he can't find it in himself to feel guilty at all. “I see that the venom in your coffee tasted amazing this morning.” “It always does.” Or: Carlos, Oscar and a project.

Old Habits Die Hard - 15k - ❌🔥+ Carlos/Lando/Oscar, Landoscar, Carlando
The downside of Oscar's job is that he's always in danger. And the pros? None. Well, unless one counts having a massive crush on his employer, who has the sex drive of a rabbit and is practically always half-naked. But the fact that his employer is literally part of the mafia is definitely off-putting. Oh, and he's married.
rosetta stone - 7k - ⭐️🔥
Maybe it’s just Carlos’s competitive nature at play here, mistaking a desire to win for–desire.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You didn’t have any energy left to scream as your musical talent was painfully sucked out of your body once again. You were honestly surprised that you had any talent left to give. Your arms and legs were almost completely translucent, and your hair was more white than it was your natural color.
You flopped into the floor with a loud thud, making you groan. “Haven’t you had enough? This is the seventh time you’ve done this just today.” You asked Lemon Pop, your face being squished by the floor, muffling your speech slightly.
Lemon Pop laughed. “Aw, are you tired? Well, too bad. It’s a busy day, and the people want me to sing!”
“I’m sure they’d also like you to be honest.” You mumbled, but Lemon heard.
She stomped over to you, and grabbed your face harshly, forcing you to look at her. “Hey, at least I’m putting your talent to good use instead of posting stupid covers on the internet.” She mocked you. She let go of your face, making it fall to the ground, and bang your nose on the floor. You yelped in pain.
Lemon quickly checked herself in the mirror, before opening the door to leave. “You should probably put a bandaid on that or something.” She said, then left the room, slamming the door behind her.
You got up, with some struggle. You were so weak, you had to grab the wall for support. After looking at yourself in the mirror, you saw what Lemon Pop was talking about. Your nose was bleeding, a result from what happened just moments before. It looked pretty busted too, probably broken.
You grabbed some tissues from the vanity, and held them on your nose. You thought back to how this all happened. You would’ve never guessed Lemon Pop’s true intentions when you first met her. She was so kind. But despite this, you still called yourself stupid for falling for her tricks. You missed your freedom, and you missed your family and friends. Lemon truly proved how messed up she was by forbidding you from seeing them.
All the memories from before this mess flooded your brain, and you wished you could have your old life back. Then the reality sank in that in the next few days, you’d probably be dead. Lemon was using more and more of your talent each day, and there wasn’t much left. This broke you, and you crumbled to the ground and cried.
~~~~
Veneer accelerated the speed of his car, following the lights of what were obviously coming from Lemon Pop’s concert. The sky above it glowed of yellow, matching the yellow traffic light that Veneer sped past.
“Drive faster, Veneer!” Velvet pestered.
“I can’t! Any faster, and we’d crash! I’m surprised that we haven’t even been pulled over yet!”
Before they could argue anymore, Rosetta interrupted. “We’re almost there! I can hear Lemon singing!”
The twins became quiet to listen. They could hear her as well, and they hated how good she sounded. That was your talent. And she was using it for her own benefit. They new it made then hypocrites to be mad, but at least now they finally understood how Brozone felt.
Veneer pulled into the parking lot, not even bothering to find a proper spot. Everyone hopped out of the car, and started booking it to the concert. Only a few seconds after beginning to run, Velvet and Veneer heard tiny voices from a distance behind them.
“Hey! Wait up!” Branch complained. Velvet rolled her eyes, and she and Veneer walked back to the trolls. They scooped them up, each twin taking half, and resumed the rescue.
Mount Rageons were jumping and screaming. Velvet and Veneer could barely see Lemon Pop at all.
“Ugh! How are we gonna get to her?” Velvet growled. She barely heard herself over all the screaming.
“I have an idea!” Poppy exclaimed. “Velvet, Veneer and the bros, you focus on finding (name). Rosetta, Viva and I will get to Lemon Pop!” She said. Once everyone agreed, the three troll ladies stretched out their hair, and swung upwards to the ceiling. Then, the rest of them went to find a door to backstage.
~~~~
After Veneer created a distraction by making his car alarm go off, the guards were gone. The twins and Brozone made it inside, and began searching for you.
“Where do you think (name) is? This place is huge!” Asked Bruce.
“Well, when we had Floyd trapped,” Veneer started. Floyd huffed, annoyed by how causally he said it. “we kept him in our dressing room.”
“Ok, then let’s check there. And please, be quiet.” Branch reminded for the hundredth time.
They made it to the dressing room in little time, and were alarmed when they heard sobbing coming from inside. Velvet and Veneer rushed to the door, and flung it open.
You gasped, startled. Once you and your siblings locked eyes, your crying stopped. “Velvet, Veneer? Why are you here?”
“What does it look like, idiot? We’re here to save you!” Velvet said. She and Veneer rushed over to you, enveloping you in a bone-crushing hug. Brozone stepped aside, so you guys could have your moment. You were so happy to see them, and started crying again. The twins pulled away, taking a good look at you to make sure you weren’t hurt.
“Oh my gosh, what happened to your nose?! It looks broken!” Veneer asked, holding your face to examine it.
“Oh, that was an accident. I’m fine. I just wanna go home.” You said through tears. The twins looked at you, and gave you a reassuring nod. Suddenly, you heard what sounded like an angry mob coming from the location of the concert.
“What’s going on?” You asked.
“Our friends are handling Lemon Pop, so I’m guessing they broke the news. Let’s go see!” John Dory spoke up. Velvet and Veneer helped you up from your spot on the floor, and you all made your way to where the stage was.
~~~~
“Are you guys really believing a few trolls over me? They’re clearly lying!” Lemon Pop shouted in anger. Her ugly side was coming out, which was not helping her attempt to prove her “innocence”.
You and everyone else had made it to the stage. You, Velvet and Veneer hopped on, causing the audience to erupt in gasps.
“I’m gonna fucking kill you!” Velvet shouted, nearly launching herself at Lemon. But you stopped her.
“The trolls are telling the truth. My name is (name), and Lemon Pop’s been stealing my talent.” To prove yourself, you rolled up your long sleeves, showing the audience your translucent arms. Another wave of gasps flooded the room.
“She did the same to me too!” Rosetta chimed in. Now the audience was angry, shouting at the pop star they paid to see. Lemon Pop was backed into a corner, with no way out. At that point, the guards had decided to take action, and made their way to her with a pair of handcuffs.
You and your siblings smiled at each other in victory.
~~~~
(A Few Weeks Later…)
Your road to recovery has been nothing but successful. Your hair color was coming back, which you were very pleased about. You didn’t want to live the rest of your life looking like an old person. Your arms and legs were also not so translucent anymore. It’s gone down to your hands and feet.
Lemon Pop was serving her time in prison, which would be a few years. This made you feel relieved, to say the least.
“Hey kid! How’re you doing?” Veneer said, entering your room with Velvet.
“I’m good!” You said.
“Great! Look at that, your nose looks much better now!”
He was right. Your nose was almost fully recovered. You’d be taking off the bandage in a couple of days.
“So, what’re you doing?” Velvet asked.
“Oh, just working on a new song.” You said. Since being saved, you decided to become a singer. You’ve released a few songs already, and they’ve done really well. You already have a ton of fans, who’ve supported you after the whole incident. You’ve completely replaced Lemon Pop, and both you and your siblings are proud of that.
“Cool. Can we hear it?” Velvet asked. Veneer nodded, agreeing with her question.
“Sure!”
You’re forever grateful for your siblings and for the trolls. Because of them, you’re not dead, and you’re able to start a career. You’re using your own given talent to be successful, and you wouldn’t have it any other way.
We got some Rainbow High Sparkle & Shine stock photos of Viola & Rosetta! I'm sorry. I know it's an unpopular opinion, but I genuinely love these dolls, and will be buying them at the first available opportunity. Yes I know the purple one is basically just Violet. To this I can only say--I own three Violets. I will likely own more Violets in the future. One of them will have glitter legs. Have you not yet figured out that purple is my favorite color? Give me all the purple dolls.
And if you don't like Rosetta my only question to you is: Why do you hate fun? Look at her. She's adorable. She's pink. She's pastel rainbow. She has a cute phone case. Weren't people complaining about the lack of phones with the new RH dolls?
Not saying anyone else has to love this wave--by all means DON'T buy them so my poor, disabled, fixed income self can get them on sale sooner--I just wish other Rainbow High collectors would stop being such snobs about them :/ But I understand folks are mourning the loss of what RH used to be. I miss it too. I only had a few months to enjoy it before the change happened! But perhaps that's why I'm not so attached to their previous incarnation, and can continue to find joy in what they've become.
ANYWAY--from my previous post about Clementine I already know these girls are not popular, but I can't help but hope people will lighten up a little bit and give them a chance.
Hating on graffiti is so lame to me like have you ever seen some of the graffiti in Pompeii?
"The one who buggers a fire burns his penis."
"Apollinaris, the doctor of the emperor Titus, shat well here"
"Chie, I hope your haemorrhoids rub together so much that they hurt worse than when they ever have before!"
"Weep, you girls. My penis has given you up. Now it penetrates men's behinds. Goodbye, wondrous femininity!"
"Aufidius was here."
And my personal favourite:
A drawing of a dick with the words "handle with care."
Almost 2000 years later we have proof that absolutely nothing has changed about the things we find funny.
I'm so serious when i say I hope in 2000 years some archaeologist is carefully dusting off that crude dick and balls drawn on the side of my local Starbucks and cataloguing it like it's the fucking Rosetta stone.
Through the Mist | Part 1
Tumblr media
pairings: Femshep x Garrus
summary: When a routine mission to rescue and recruit a handful of scientists goes wrong, Shepard and her team are left to fight against something they had never expected to face. Now stranded on a heavily fog-covered planet, they realise there is more to the strange weather than they originally thought, especially when they hear things from beyond the fog; calling for them.
“Commander, a handful of scientists are located in a remote facility near you. Their knowledge is invaluable, and we could use them for the crucible. I’ll send you all the information I have, Hackett out.”
The blue holographic display fizzles away, leaving Shepard alone in the QEC as she mutters out a quiet “Yes, sir.” to the air. She heaves out a sigh before opening her comms, “Joker, we have a new destination. Set course for the Rosetta Nebula.”
“Aw, seriously, Shepard?” He groans, the sound coming out muffled and even without seeing him Shepard can tell he’s rubbing his face. Exhaustion has quickly become more prevalent across her crew, the war wearing them down physically and emotionally, especially after losing a lot more than just their pride to Cerberus. A fact that still gnaws away at her, despite her brave mask which has since been carefully reinforced to keep up what morale is left in her crew.
“Yes, seriously. Orders from Hackett,” she replies, her voice tense. She bites her lip before forcing out a smile, hoping it comes across in her voice. “I don’t like this any more than you Joker, but it needs to be done and it’s better to do it now while we’re nearby. Think of the fuel prices otherwise.”
“You’re buying me three drinks next time, each with their own little umbrella.” He declares, pausing for a moment before adding, “And a damn good dinner, you’re killing me here, Raven.”
Shepard snorts just before the line drops, letting herself flop against the railing in front of her, safe in the privacy of the war room. She feels Garrus approach her slumped form, wrapping an arm around her waist and pulling her close to him.
“Let me guess, one more mission and then we’ll go to the Citadel for shore leave?” He asks, his fingers drawing comforting circles against her waist.
She gives him an apologetic smile as she leans into him, resting her head against the cool plating of his armour. “It will be quick and easy, we just need to pick up a small group and drop them off. We might as well do it now and then take them with us to the Citadel, though I don’t like putting off shore leave like this.”
“Well, at least the wait will be worth it,” he jokes, catching her tired expression. “Hackett just wants you to collect some people? Sounds like he’s going easy on you with this one.”
“God, please don’t jinx us, Garrus.” She laughs, letting him hold most of her weight against him.
“Me? Never…”
Tumblr media
From what is visible, the planet appears to be a desolate wasteland; all grey stone and barren of all signs of life. She has yet to learn what the scientists have been working on here and regrets not pressing Hackett for more information, despite the Admiral sending all he had. A high clearance team, working on something secret. A weapon, she theorises, maybe something even shady.
Liara was not much help either, finding very little about the base besides a suspicious number of funds being funnelled into the group from an unknown benefactor; all of which does little to calm the annoyance beginning to build. Discomfort twirls in her gut as a familiar and hated group springs to mind.
“If this is Cerberus again, I think I'm going to lose it,” She mumbles under her breath as she looks through the available data they have about the planet; a base temperature of twelve degrees, breathable air, and splatters of human colonies slowly being formed across the rock.
Shepard hates going in blind and it’s almost as if the planet has decided to use that against her, taunting her. The shuttle shudders as it approaches the ground. She can hear Cortez mutter a swear under his breath as he battles to control the vehicle, her grip tightening on the handrail above. Without any warning, she is thrown against her seat, her knees buckle as they hit the object and she comes crashing down into it. Garrus’ hand is instantly on her shoulder, stabilising her with a strong grip. She gives him a thankful nod and leans back in her seat.
“Everyone alright?” She asks, watching as James knocks his head against the back of his seat before giving her a thumbs up with one hand, the other rubbing at the base of his skull.
Despite the turbulence hellbent on giving them a few bruises before the mission can properly start, they touch down without any other issues. She lets out a small sigh of relief, biting back a smile when she hears her crew do the same. Shepard is quick to leave her seat, giving orders for Cortez to return to the Normandy until they signal for extraction, hopefully with the scientists, before hopping out onto the unknown planet.
A thick fog instantly wraps itself around Shepard and her squad, drifting to and fro and obscuring their vision. They instinctively move closer to her, almost standing shoulder-to-shoulder while their eyes dart around the blank landscape. The area is silent, not a single bird chirping or a tree swaying its leaves in the wind; as life itself has abandoned the planet.
She can see James nervously glancing around as if expecting an ambush from beyond the thin barrier, despite their lonely landing zone. Their battle-trained senses are useless to them now, sending them into a state of high alert, and if the disconcerted grumble from her sniper is any indication, his visor is doing very little to aid him. He catches her questioning gaze through the blue display and shakes his head.
“I’m getting no readings through my visor, Shepard,” He confirms, his hand raised against the metal frame to fiddle with its settings.
“I’m not surprised. Good to know that we don’t need to worry about any surprises so soon, at least.” She says, securing her Mattock onto her back with ease.
“No, that’s not what I meant. I’m not getting any readings through this thing, including your own.” She watches as his brow plates come together in a small frown, his hand dropping in defeat as the tech continues to fight against him. “As long as you are suited up and we’re not lightyears apart, my visor will display your vitals. There’s no reason for it to not show while you’re standing in front of me. The thing still works, the kill counter and the current galactic time are still lit up…All biometric data, however…”
The air chills and a thick tension is carried over to them with the gentle breeze. She opens her comm link to the ship, hoping EDI can have more luck scouting the place than they will.
“EDI, we’re going to need some guidance here. Are you able to lead us to the closest structure?”
A loud buzzing sparks from her comms in response, along with a barely audible voice fighting through the interference, “Comman… We can’t… Unable to…Signal is…”
Shepard drops the link with a frown, her mind running through a million scenarios and plans as she speaks. “Okay, we are effectively cut off from the Normandy, so we’re on our own until we reach our targets. They are our best shot at the moment.”
"Shepard," Garrus mutters warily and she can hear the concern buzzing through his sub-vocals as he begins to expect the worst, "This isn't the ideal place for a firefight, we are completely blinded."
"I hear you. While it may seem quiet, something’s not right. Everyone stay close and on alert. If you hear or see anything, we avoid it for now." She clenches her fists, quelling the urge to wrap everyone up in her biotics before something has the chance to strike first. She bites back a groan as she rolls her neck, the last thing she wants is to reveal their position if something lurks in the distance. “Maybe the weather can be used to our advantage here,” she mutters as she turns from the group.
She steps further into the fog, waving her hand in front of her and slicing through it with ease. She watches as it parts around her hand before forming again shortly after, dancing around them in a thick haze. An unusual silence hangs around them as no one dares to speak and break it; their footfalls are amplified with every step, almost echoing around them.
They keep moving, the rhythmic clunking of their armour accompanying every step before James suddenly comes to a halt, groaning in frustration. “This is loco. How are we supposed to find anything when we don’t even know how far we’ve been walking?”
“I don’t know, but what I do know is that we need those scientists. You’re not afraid of a little bit of fog, are you, Vega?” She throws him a smirk from over her shoulder, her smile widening when she hears Garrus chuckling beside her. She much prefers that sound to the empty nothingness that’s been following them.
“You never know, Shepard. He might be, what you humans say, a chicken.”
“Oh low blow, Scars. You don’t even know what that is.”
“According to the extranet, it’s a bird from Earth that is usually killed for food. According to humans, everything tastes like it and they are fearful creatures.” He casually retorts, grinning triumphantly when James scoffs in defeat.
“You spend too much time with Lola.” James gives Garrus a small nudge, grimacing when the impact of their armour rings through the air.
“And you say that as if it’s a bad thing, Jimmy.”
Shepard rolls her eyes at their back and forth, biting down a laugh at the unique insults being playfully tossed around. She has to step away from the group to focus, she hears Garrus shift to keep her in his line of sight before the familiar warm glow of her omni-tool causes the fog to light up around her. She lets out a small huff as it does nothing to improve their vision, somehow making things worse.
She shuffles back to the duo and glances between them, James half-heartedly glaring at Garrus, and finally spots the outline of a large, grey building, highlighted by the smothered rays of sunlight. Frustration rattles around in her brain at the obvious structure hiding in plain sight, a structure she is positive she would have noticed, yet she does what she does best and throws her emotions into yet another bottle.
"There, ahead of us. That must be the research base." She looks back at Garrus and James, making sure they can see where she’s pointing. An uneasy feeling begins to snake around her heart when she glances back at their destination. Their previous banter had helped to lighten the tense atmosphere surrounding them, but with each ebb and flow of the fog, the thin relief begins to crack again as they approach the base.
"You know, Shepard. We should find some rope and use it to keep us all together." As if reading her mind, Garrus' duel-toned voice breaks her out of her worry and she gives a low chuckle at the suggestion, not entirely disagreeing.
"Uh, no offence, Garrus. What you and Lola do in your free time is up to you, but I don't want to be involved." James says with a cheeky smile that only grows when both Shepard and Garrus roll their eyes at him.
“Very funny, Vega. We’ll just leave you behind then,” Garrus drawls out, his shoulders finally dropping as he relaxes. He catches Shepard’s eye and she gives him a gentle nod, the pair almost speaking without words. Yes, this is weird, and yes, I’m alright.
Shepard is quick to open the structure’s door and usher the others inside, the fog stalking them in through the wide entrance and dissipating into the room. The room is dark, with only the emergency signs providing any light, casting shadows up onto the steel walls around them. There are no other doors within the small room, just a few windows that have since been securely boarded up.
The air within is still and stale, and Shepard grimaces when she catches a hint of something slightly rancid. She glances around and spots a dozen datapads littering the surfaces. Chairs are stranded away from the desks and numerous personal belongings have been left behind. She picks up one of the datapads, a large crack running across the screen, and begins to read aloud what remains of the corrupted file.
“...Day 5, no progress has been made. My head has been killing me, but I refuse to rest until we get results.
“...Day 8, we might finally have good news. Callum from base two has made some improvements. We will need to make adjustments to the formula, but any news is good news at this point.”
The words begin to blur, seemingly dancing across the cracked screen, the flickering worsens the longer she reads before the datapad goes black, cutting her off. She lets herself relax for a moment, holding back a scoff for being so on edge.
She catches Garrus roaming the room out of the corner of her eye before becoming rigid. Suddenly, the hairs on the back of her neck stick up once more, a shiver creeping down her spine as he speaks.
“Spirits… Shepard, you should come and see this.”
She’s quick to reach his side and spots a body curled up in the small space between the wall and one of the desks. His head is leant back against the cold steel, letting them see more than they wish to. His skin is pale, almost taking on a grey tone. There are visible veins under his paperlike skin, bulging along his neck, trying to break free. His eyebrows are pulled together, almost impossibly close. Sending unnatural wrinkles along his forehead. The body is young, too young to have such deep lines.
The worst part is his mouth. It hangs open in a silent scream while his glazed-over eyes are open wide in pure terror.
She moves closer, keeping her footing light as she approaches the body to read the name badge across the arm of his attire. Without any warning, the man’s head rolls forward. Greying hair falls with it, covering his face. The group instantly jump back, aiming their rifles towards the body and waiting with bated breath for any more movement. After a minute of stillness, Shepard raises her hand, signalling for them to holster their guns.
“He’s dressed in uniform, this must have been one of the researchers. What happened here?” She says softly, leaning down to carefully make a note of the man's name for her report before she stands back up and steps away from the sight.
“No clue, Commander. Half of these datapads are damaged. Some have been trampled on, whatever spooked these people spooked them badly. Bad enough to leave in a hurry.” James appears behind her with a worried frown.
She takes a moment to think, gently tapping the datapad against her thigh in concentration before a sound breaks her attention. The noticeable whirl of a nearby shuttle flying overhead. She tosses the datapad onto the table and quickly signals for them to follow her as she rushes out of the building, peering up at the sky. Garrus falls into position on her right, gazing down at her oddly before shrugging at James.
Everything is silent, even the breeze that had greeted them has since fallen still. She wanders away from the building, hearing her team scramble to stay close. She continues to watch the sky, her confusion is evident on her face as no shuttle is fast enough to vanish that quickly.
The more she stares into the white void around her, the more she notices that the fog has grown thicker. It has started to take on an almost yellow hue as it blocks out more of the sunlight. She can feel it glide over the exposed skin of her face, leaving goosebumps in its wake. She feels her spine straighten and her jaw tightens, confusion flowing around the group.
Out of nowhere, she hears footsteps and her head snaps around to trace the sound. She sees nothing out in the distance, but the sound grows louder as it approaches them.
She is quick to grab her pistol, ignoring the alarmed two-toned rumble from her right.
She keeps it low, her finger away from the trigger as she listens. She signals for the others to remain silent, her heart pounding.
The beating of the organ is loud in her ears, almost to a painful degree. Yet the footsteps grow louder.
She is almost a statue, eyes alert and trained on the direction of the sound, yet she sees nothing as the mysterious figure darts past them and deeper into the fog. In her peripheral she can see her squad standing still, Garrus’ eyes are locked onto her, his mandibles fluttering with uncertainty, while James is frantically looking around, trying to follow her line of sight.
She swallows down her unease and turns to face them fully, “One of the researchers must still be out here. They were heading north, so that could be where the other base is. We can’t know for sure if that was a researcher or what killed the team, so be careful.”
Garrus and James glance at one another momentarily before they nod and continue to follow her deeper into the unknown. Unease stalks their every step, their postures rigid and on high alert. A new building reveals itself before them, grey steel walls reflecting the now-setting sun like a beacon awaiting their arrival. A hastily drawn number two sits just above the door, the paint beginning to chip after being left to withstand the elements.
“Let’s hope this is the right place, I don’t enjoy the idea of wandering out here for much longer. You’re certain the person ran this way, Shepard?” Garrus mumbles, back pressed against the wall next to the door.
“I know what I heard, Garrus,” she mutters as she watches James take his position against the wall on the other side, awaiting her signal. “Even if this isn’t the building they ran to, there’s got to be something here that would explain what happened.”
“...Heard?” He questions, his mandibles flaring in badly concealed bewilderment.
She cocks her head at him, pausing for a second. Shepard gives him a careful nod and bangs a fist against the red omni-lock to open the door, hoping they don’t have to fight against firewalls to gain access. Much to the group's surprise, the lock flashes red a few times before it complies and turns green, the door opening with a small groan.
“A technical malfunction or a research base that has very little security?” Shepard questions, opening up her omni-tool to provide her with some light as she peers into the room.
James shrugs, his back pressed firmly against the wall. “Who knows? Possibly both with how quick the other team was to leave, they probably didn’t have time to properly lock the place up. That or they didn’t think they would have to, with how remote they are out here and all. Can’t imagine anyone loco enough to visit.”
“And whoever we were following probably didn’t expect us to make our way here without getting lost first, giving them no time to fix any issues,” Garrus adds.
She signals for the two men to stay put as she begins to stalk into the room. Even with the door open, it’s darker than the previous base, all the technology within has since lost power after being abandoned. This room is larger, with another door leading deeper into the structure.
“Hello?” She calls out, her hand hovering close to her pistol, just in case. “I’m Commander Shepard, I’m with the Alliance Navy.”
Silence answers her and she holds back a sigh as she creeps deeper into the building, away from the safety of the door and checks out the room, her omni-tool guiding her every move. Unlike the previous base, this one is relatively clean. It shows no signs of struggle or distress, no corpses hiding away in the shadowed corners.
The base is tidy, too tidy, she notes. Not a single data pad has been left behind, and with the power drained, they are left with no way of accessing the consoles to read through their logs. Shepard runs an armoured hand through her hair as she turns to the entrance, waving the others in.
“This is getting us nowhere. James, stay here and guard the exit while we check out the other room.” She says as she approaches the door, exhaling in relief when it opens without a fight.
“Aye aye, Commander. Leave this mess with me.” He gives her a playful salute before throwing himself down into one of the office chairs, facing the exit. His grip on his Revenant is tight, and the skin stretching over his knuckles turns pale.
There’s only a short corridor connecting the rooms, but the air within is thick and old. As if it hasn’t been disrupted in weeks. A thin layer of dust covers everything in sight, not a single surface is safe from the fluffy, grey specs; a sharp contrast to the room a few metres away.
The room itself is tiny, barely containing more than three desks pressed tightly against the walls.
“There’s no one here,” Garrus whispers, double-checking all the corners and under the desks. “Looks like this is just an extension of the other room…Just as empty as well.”
“Not quite,” Shepard says as she spots a rectangular object, obscured by a thick layer of dust. She brushes it off, cringing as some of it sticks to the fabric of her gloves. She suddenly spins to face Garrus, waving the half-dead datapad in front of him with a victorious smile. He gives her a smile in return as he moves closer to read over her shoulder.
“...Day 20, we messed up. I don’t know what went wrong, maybe it was our calculations, or maybe it was… Either way, it doesn’t matter anymore.
…Day 21, if you… read… We…can’t…It’s too late.”
“Well, that’s horribly ominous,” Garrus states as Shepard finishes reading. He glances down at her and spots the telltale sign of exhaustion creeping across her expression. Another dead end, another failure. He gently bumps his shoulder against hers, keeping his voice light. “They could have fled, abandoned the bases and left. Or they were relocated to another project after this one. With the Reapers here, it would make sense why Hackett and Liara couldn’t trace them.”
“Maybe…Let’s grab James and get out of here. Liara might have found something by now. There’s no point standing around in a dusty room and possibly catching something.”
She opens up her comm to try and contact the Normandy once more, wincing at the static rumbling through the line. She listens closely, her focus stolen by the white noise. For a moment she swears she can hear a voice calling out to her. The voice is low and feminine, but not the smooth, metallic tone that she is accustomed to with EDI.
This voice is old and familiar. A memory that had faded with time, crawling back into the present through the static.
“Raven.”
She freezes, feeling like a bucket of ice has been thrown over her, or just injected directly into her veins instead. Tears instinctively rise through her ducts and it takes all that she has to force them back down, doing all she can to hold her commander mask firmly in place. The galaxy hasn’t broken her yet and she refuses to let this planet be the tipping point, not after everything that's happened.
With more force than what is needed, she quickly cuts the comm link.
Sensing her growing distress, Garrus gently places his hand under her chin, raising it so he can meet her gaze. She lets him manoeuvre her but refuses to meet his eyes. He lets out a quiet sigh and she can feel his concern in the tender action when his thumb brushes against her cheek.
“I think the stress is getting to me. I made a bad call, we should have done this after our shore leave. When everyone is better rested and more focused,” she admits and attempts to hang her head in shame, getting nowhere thanks to his strong grip keeping her head held high.
“I’m not sure, Shepard… I’ve been getting bad vibes from this place. I’ve not once doubted your judgement and I’m certainly not going to start now.”
She gives him a small smile that doesn’t quite reach her eyes, feeling his body relax at her attempt. He reluctantly releases her after quickly pressing his forehead against hers, doing all he can to give her some reassurance while she secures her mask of authority once more, feeling slightly pissed at how often she’s let it slip on this mission. It’s rare for something to get under her skin, yet she begins to feel as if the planet was designed purely to do just that.
Briar Beauty Ficlets
Briar Beauty had grown up in a house with no mirrors.
Her castle had been large, and fairy,fairy old, but mirrors were absent throughout.She never questioned the lack of looking glass (her mother was over a century old, she was going to be a bit odd) but her friends had thought it was strange.
"Briar, where are all the mirrors?''
Apple had questioned once, on a playdate at her house.
They had explored the highest towers in the castle, all but the one covered in roses , and as Briar had gradually discovered, the Beauty castle was fairy, fairy, dusty.She'd shrugged.
'We don't have any.'
Apple's perfect brow had furrowed, and she had asked, perfectly tactful even at the age of five,
'Why don't you? It's not like any of you are ugly beasts or anything.'
Briar had winced at this .Her favourite cousin was the daughter of an 'ugly beast'.'
"We just don't. I think my mom doesn't like them.'
This was where she'd slipped up, Apple's eyes widening in realisation.
''Is it, cause-
The Evil Queen cursed you?''
Briar had nodded, and changed the subject to finding her mom's old jewellery.
***********
Briar had first met Raven Queen in a graveyard.
It wasn't uncommon for Rosetta Beauty to visit graveyards, as all of her friends were dead
like Briar's were going to be.
And she'd wandered away after her mother found the grave she was looking for, read the name on the gravestone, and promptly fell to the ground, sobbing in despair.
She hated seeing her mother cry.
She'd skipped through the surrounding orchard,unafraid of the thorns that it was filled with. They were part of her namesake, and the pain from their scratches was only temporary. No, better than temporary. It awoke her.She lost the air of drowsiness that surrounded her like a fog when she was inactive, and she relished in the energy.
As an apple dropped on her head, she lifted her eyes to the tree above her, to see two violet ones staring back.
'I'm sorry!' A voice had frantically wafted down, before the girl it belonged to widened her eyes and looked around , as if to check that no one had seen her apologize.
"I was reading, and I must have accidentally dropped it!''
''It's fine!'' Briar had reassured her, rubbing her head where the apple had hit her.
'' Why were you reading anyways? You've got this whole place to hexplore!''
She gestured around wildly, for the orchard had seemed vast and fascinating.The girl had frowned and shook her head.
''I've already seen most of the stuff here. It's my family's orchard.'' With that, she'd cast her eyes downward.
''So, which family are you from? I don't know any fairytale families with a graveyard in an orchard!''
The girl muttered out her answer. ''The Queen family.''
Briar had been surprised. The Queen family was fearsome, formidable, and above all, to be avoided, her mother had told her. She'd said that every member had an aura of evil , one that killed flowers and made babies cry.
Why were they in the Queen orchard?
She decided to think about it later.She had a new friend to talk to, one still staring at her apprehensively, as though used to people running away screaming at the mere whisper of her name. Briar wasn't scared. She was brave, the bravest little rose in the family, her mother often said, squeezing her affectionately. She held out her hand.
"I'm Briar."
The other little girl reached out her own hand slowly, as if not to spook her. Briar frowned and grabbed her hand, shaking it with enthusiasm.
"What's your name?"
"Raven."
*****************
Briar was just turning six when her mother say her down, held her hand, and told her that she and Raven could not longer be friends.
She had been seeking out the evil heiress at parties, talking to her, and bringing her to play with the royal children. Some of the others had been afraid, but she was stubborn.
"Raven's mom is a queen! She's a princess too." She'd firmly stated.
This was not to be done, her mother had explained. Raven was evil going to be evil and talking to her, being her friend, was bad.
Briar still didn't understand, but folded for her mother.
Her mother, with sad eyes, with a mouth so often pinched in disappointment, pale skin, and an aura of exhaustion.
Her mother, who held her constantly, to remind herself that she was still there. Her mother who woke herself from her stupors to bake her cookies at midnight, who sewed every tear she'd made climbing a tree or jumping from a horse. Her mother, who had no one she truly knew, except her family.
She'd smiled, albeit sadly, and nodded.
This wasn't the only friend she'd be forced to part with after all.
********************
Briar is entering spellamentary school when she meets the most gorgeous girl she's ever seen.
She's so bright- her hair, her eyes, her wings, her smile.
Briar hates the dark, hates anything that might make her think of her hundred year sleep, anything gloomy and empty.
This girl is fun, she soon learns. She's fierce and she's loud. This girl is so filled with light, with mischief, that Briar thinks she wants to spend forever next to her, soaking her in.
The girl is Faybelle Thorne, her fated villainess, and the only one who will be present after her sleep.
Briar isn't so scared of her sleep, if she knows Faybelle will be right there when she wakes up, with a quip about how much she drooled and a warm hug.
Just as a change in your GX fic, I can see Atem having Jaden take his studies seriously. Not to the point where he's top of the class, but he's above average but has some pretty niche knowledge, like about ancient cultures and can speak/write in what people thought were previously dead languages (Atem would make a living translating ancient languages he's a living Rosetta Stone).
If anything, that one teacher Professor Stein would hate Jaden not because he inspires others to slack off in class, but Jaden's insistence to stay in Slifer Red despite having everything at his fingertips is like a slap in the face for Professor Stein who grew up poor and had to fight for everything he had. Jaden didn't know what that was like and is just slumming it in his eyes.
I love this.
Jaden being a ‘Slacker’ is something I struggle with constantly in this au.
Kaiba had a crazy study regiment and while he didn’t force it on Mokuba and I doubt he would force it on Jaden (or that Yugi would let him) I don’t think he’d be happy with failing grades
Yugi was valedictorian (according to DSOD) I think he struggled early on because of everything going on and his lack of interest in anything outside of games but threw himself into studying after Atem left.
Atem. See everything you stated. Because you’re correct.
I but I’m going to argue that Jaden isn’t a Slacker because he doesn’t want to learn. It’s a mixture of he already knows all the answers, because of his family and connections.
But more importantly his brain was literally fried by his birth parents.
Jaden does really well in one on one lessons. Learning from Atem or Yugi. Studying langue’s with tutors. He does really well when he can take things at his pace and it’s presented in a way that he can understand and learn from.
But his brain was fried. He struggles remembering something (which I have another ask on that I’ll talk about later)
The traditional classroom is hard on him. His brain just can’t catch on without asking at least 10 questions. It’s why he sleeps in class so much. He loses track of where they are and they won’t answer a Slifer’s questions.
However he can’t fail out, so he needs find a new way of figuring out the in formation. Luckily he’s had a decade to learn how he best processes information.
You also have to remember that he was offered to move up to Ra with in the first 10 episodes because of his dueling ability but chose to stay in red with Syrus. So it’s not that his grades are holding him back he is refusing to move up.
So I think Jaden comes up with a study habit/style that benefits him. He’s never going to be top of the class (mainly because he’s got some learning disability’s from his brain being fried and Duel Academy doesn’t seem like it be the best school for helping kids with learning disabilities.) he can’t test well. But he’s passing.
He shows Syrus his way of studying and it makes more sense than what’s happening in class. (Reading the actual text and taking notes) Bastion and Alexis join their little study group. Alexis and Bastion can understand the lectures and combined their lecturer notes with Jaden’s text notes and it makes an all encompassing study guide for the group.
Professor Stein hates Jaden for two reasons. Everyone is now skipping class but they are also passing. This is because Jaden’s way of learning makes way more sense to most of the students. It’s hands on and is more effective than a straight lecture. (He might also be teaching straight from the text and why would you go to a lecture that you could read in a comfortable spot, in bed or sitting outside)
I don’t know Stein maybe look at your teaching style and ask if you reaching all different learning styles? Straight lectures don’t work for most people. But I digress.
But this is a Great War of mine. I don’t want Jaden to be such a slacker because I don’t think Seto, Yugi, or Atem would be happy with him. But I also don’t want to change Jaden to the smartest most hard working kid ever.
And the thing is cannon Jaden is smart. He’s got good strategies and can problem solve. He’s not book smart but he’s not stupid. He’s socially inept from a lack of friends growing up (and likely neglectful parents but don’t worry I’ve fixed that) and he struggles with learning but he I wonder why when his parents fried his brain as a baby.
So I think Jaden does try in his studies and between his duel record and hard work could have been Obelisk by the end of his 1st year. He just refuses to move up. Probably failed a few test on purpose so they couldn’t move him.
Between the class not being set up for students like him and have a good grasp on everything they are teaching because of his family it’s no wonder he skips class.
I do love everything you listed out and I’ll have a lot to think about. This is something that I’ve been thinking about a lot but haven’t brought up because I wasn’t sure how to present it yet. Let me know what y’all think we should do with Jaden and his study habits.
I see you cite Final Fantasy as one of SLARPG's inspirations, but I'm curious which FF games in specific you're referring to.
I would specifically cite:
FF1 - The GBA version was the first RPG i really sunk my teeth into as a kid, so this is basically my Rosetta Stone for What A Turn-Based RPG Is. Arriving in a new town and buying new gear and spells so you can go back out and fight monsters better. That sort of thing. As I explained in a Patreon post a while back, a certain character is also partially an homage to Bahamut's role in this first game
FF5 - The job system here very heavily influenced the direction I went in with the Spellbook system. Spellbooks were initially envisioned as premade "decks" with different combinations of spells, sort of like the premade chip folders you sometimes receive in Mega Man Battle Network, but playing FF5 inspired me to make all of the Spellbooks more thematically distinct and treat them as a subclass system
FF3 - On a completely different note, I can't stand how FF3 handles its job system, which also influenced Spellbooks. I hate how certain bosses all but require certain jobs, and if you don't have that job leveled up already then you just have to stop and grind. So I made it so that Spellbooks have all of their abilities unlocked by default with no need to level them up, and no point in the game explicitly requires the use of any one Spellbook. Your build is up to you
FF6 - Pretty foundational to my understanding of how to tell a story in a top-down 16-bit RPG, with the little sprites all running around and emoting for the audience sort of like it's a stage play, and the battle system often being used as a storytelling device. I'd also cite the relics (along with Paper Mario's badges) as the inspiration for SLARPG's Charms, and there's probably a little Kefka in Javis
FF7 - Again, this is just a foundational game to my understanding of JRPG storytelling. I might point to FF7 as the first RPG I played growing up that was focused on the dramatic arc of a single predetermined main character who already has relationships with most of the other main characters when the story begins, as opposed to either a silent protagonist, a customizable character, or a protagonist who isn't particularly supposed to stand out among the ensemble cast. (FF4 also did this with Cecil, but I haven't played as much of FF4.) A lot of things in FF7's story remain kind of the gold standard for me, like how the bombing mission is still one of the best intro sequences to any game ever, so I refer back to it a decent amount. You can definitely see some influence from Cloud's story in Melody. And Anthony and I also compared a certain set of optional bosses to the Ruby and Emerald Weapons when we were planning them out
FF9 - Maybe some broad aesthetic influence. I haven't played as much of 9 as you'd probably assume
FF14 - I had yet to make it all the way through ARR before SLARPG came out, but I'd tried making a White Mage multiple times, which led to Gridania being an early influence on what I wanted Greenridge to look like. I don't think the influence is that recognizable in the final product, but you can kiiiiiiiiiinda see it in some of the architecture if you squint
Breaking and Entering
Jinx x gn!reader
Request?: yes!
Whilst at home, you get a visitor, one that you are glad that intruded your sanctuary…
Home. My one safe place. Zaun can be potent, to say the least. There's always something going on. I plop down on my very worn-down musty couch, sighing loudly. My bones crack from standing all day in my booth. I sold more today than I thought I would. Made a decent amount of money. Not enough, it's never enough. But it was decent. Just as I was about to shut my eyes for some rest, I heard a noise coming from my bedroom. There was some rustling, a thud, more rustling, and then a voice
“Ow! Jeez toots, couldn't kill you to pick up your room once in a while, fuck,” I hear from an all too familiar voice. My girlfriend just broke into my house. Now, this isn't too new. She likes to pop up from time to time, surprising me with new gadgets she tinkered with fixing my kitchenware, or even just for a cuddle sesh. But breaking in through my window was new. She would usually bust through my door, which I deemed okay (though my landlord didn't). But breaking in was an all-new development. I force myself up from my couch and saunter over to my pink and blue graffiti-covered door. Yeah, she comes over a lot.
 I slowly open the door to find Jinz looking through my things and placing some different gadgets around. I presume they were pranks. Harmless ones, but pranks nonetheless. I sigh softly.
“It couldn't kill you to use a door, ya know?” I say leaning on my doorframe. Jinx spins around, her vibrant blue braids swinging along with her motion. She quickly hides a hand behind her back, a prank she was going to place under my pillow. Her eyes widen and she drops the prank, hopping over to me. “Hi, sugar! I was only-,” she starts to explain before I cut her off. “Was only about to place hidden pranks all around my room to scare me with glitter and pink puff bombs?” I finish, a lovestruck smirk grazing across my face with a raised eyebrow. Her sly smile only widens. “Okay maybe, but I wasn't expecting you ta come home so early. '' She tries to reason. I chuckle. “Yeah, I sold more than I thought I would, so I packed up early.” I look down at Jinx. I was slightly taller than her. I always was, ever since we were kids. She hated that. Her blue eyes seemed even bluer in my dark room and her tattoos looked luminescent. I could look at her forever and never get bored. Jinx let out a soft “oh”, before tackling me in a bone-crushing hug. Yeah, she may be petite, but she was strong as hell. I wrap my hands around her waist and kiss her forehead. She nuzzles her face into the nape of my neck, her braids swinging from the motion and slightly tapping my thigh. “Missed ya, toots'' she mumbles, her breath tickling the skin beneath her lips. I sigh, “Missed you too, tink”
Tink. My favorite movie as a kid was Tinkerbell, and it was the only one my mom could download using the Piltover wifi she got from her work. I watched it every day, dreaming of the fairies and how I could be one if I tried. That didn't work out. I wanted to be Rosetta more than anything, wanting nothing more than to care for plants. Now I care for them and sell them, so in a way, I am Rosetta, just less girly. Jinx reminded me of Tinkerbell, always working on some little gadget. I loved that more than anything. And I love her more than anything.
Jinx looks up at me through her eyelashes, a glint of mischief in her eyes. “I just got home from work, dude” I reason, but she doesn't listen. She goes back down to my neck, nipping at the skin. I suck in the air in surprise. She always knows how to suck the air out of my lungs. It's a blessing and a curse at the same time. My nails dig into her flesh, definitely leaving crescent-shaped indents on her skin. Eventually, I find enough strength to push Jinx off of me, to which her lips turn into a frown, lines indenting her perfect face. “What, did I do something wrong?” she asks, and I frown. She could never do anything wrong. At least, not to me. “Never,” I start, “I was just thinking about how tired I am, and how the bed would be so much more comfy” A smirk goes across my face as I look at Jinx’s, waiting for her to get what I was saying. Her eyebrows are furrowed together like she knows what I'm trying to say, but just isn't getting the message. Then, her eyes light up, and a Cheshire grin covers her pale face. “Yeah, tired, right” Jinx drawls.
I grab Jinx’s hand, pulling her to my bed. I lean myself up against my headboard, then pat my lap, giving Jinx the throne to sit upon. She hops on gladly, practically jumping onto me. Her legs wrap around my waist, and I pull her impossibly close. My hands and fingers graze her thigh, going higher and higher inch by inch. Her breath is fanned over my face, hot and sweet, just like she is. She mumbles something along the lines of “Oh my god I love you, you're too perfect for me toots,” She's vocal, to say the least. I kiss her shoulders, going up higher to reach her neck. I suck at her skin leaving purple bruises behind. I'm only hoping Silco doesn't come after me for marking his beloved daughter. I'd be dead meat.
She whimpers quietly and I moan in return. My hands finally reach Jinx's ass. I grab at her flesh, making her rut her hips at the motion. I smirk against her skin, just as she did to me mere minutes earlier. “So good to me toots,” she says, pulling my face up my chin to look at her. I look at her face, her cerulean eyes, her pale skin, her pretty cheekbones. I lean forward, enrapturing her lips in a sweet kiss. She tastes of sugar and gunmetal, to which I'm slightly concerned but too enraptured in her lips to care. My hands continue up her body, past her waist and I stop them at her belly. I pulse my thumbs into her skin, feeling her tattoos and scars. I love every part of it, and I always will. My lungs start to burn from the lack of air, and I wish internally that they would just shut up so I could kiss my girlfriend. But needs are needs, so I disconnect my lips from hers, earning a whine from Jinx. We both pant, wanting nothing more than to intertwine our lips again. My head goes back to the headboard. Jinx leans her head on my chest. I bring my hand up from her belly to her hair, petting her hair gently. “I think that makeout sesh can excuse my  breaking and entering, right?” She says breathlessly, trying to get out of my scolding. But right now, I couldn't care less. “Yeah, it definitely does.”
With one of the most impactful sections of the game with Akechi (in my opinion) being his very emotionally fuelled breakdown during his boss fight, you would think more people would realize just how much of his reasoning for what he does is based on his emotions and not logic
akdbudhehf yeag
It's as if people just block out the engine room scene entirely, tbh. All the most popular misinterpretations of his character are blatantly contradicted by that scene. It's absolutely wild to me when it's incredibly obvious to me that that scene is Akechi at his most genuine/least filtered in the game and therefore the most important one if you want to understand him as a character. But it is so often completely ignored.
Arguments like "Akechi hates Joker" or "Akechi doesn't regret anything." Or "The Phantom Thieves hate Akechi and don't sympathize with him," even. I've even seen people (Akechi stans! in multiple fics!!) interpret Akechi as not giving a shit about popularity or what the masses think of him. Hello??? Guys!! Goro "I was extremely particular about my life, my grades, my public image, so someone would want me around" and "you'll all be heroes. as for me, people will find out my past deductions were just charade. my fame and trust will vanish" Akechi very very much does give a shit what people think about him. That is. actually. kind of his entire thing. (Yeah, after the public turns against him he gets jaded, but he never doesn't care. Having the public turn on him, I would argue, was actually a kind of personal hell for him, because he cares so much.) Anyway. I already wrote that meta.
But yeah, people love ignoring the engine room scene. Maybe they just forget a lot of it because a ton does happen? Or they just aren't insane about Akechi like me and haven't practically memorized bits of it. (Hey, I'm working on it. It'll get completely memorized eventually...) Akechi haters are gonna misinterpret him, that's not surprising. But it is absolutely wild to me when Akechi stans ignore the most important scene with him and understand who he is and why he did the things he did.
I've even been told that the engine room isn't Akechi at his most genuine and actually is him at his most extreme and shouldn't be taken at face value. Which is just......what??? Yeah, he's having a mental breakdown, but as a result all of his masks come off and he says shit that is real and genuine and that wouldn't have come out at any other time. The extreme emotions of the situation are what make it so genuine. That interpretation is so baffling to me, but maybe it's more common than I think, and that's why Akechi stans ignore it, I dunno.
But yeah, anyway, if you wanna know what Akechi actually believes about something, look at the engine room. It's the Rosetta Stone to Akechi's character and the scene through which you should interpret everything else. I don't know why everyone loves ignoring it so much.
Her sly smile only widens. “Okay maybe, but I wasn't expecting you ta come home so early. '' She tries to reason. I chuckle. “Yeah, I sold more than I thought I would, so I packed up early.” I look down at Jinx. I was slightly taller than her. I always was, ever since we were kids. She hated that. Her blue eyes seemed even bluer in my dark room and her tattoos looked luminescent. I could look at her forever and never get bored. Jinx let out a soft “oh”, before tackling me in a bone-crushing hug. Yeah, she may be petite, but she was strong as hell. I wrap my hands around her waist and kiss her forehead. She nuzzles her face into the nape of my neck, her braids swinging from the motion and slightly tapping my thigh. “Missed ya, toots'' she mumbles, her breath tickling the skin beneath her lips. I sigh, “Missed you too, tink”
Tink. My favorite movie as a kid was Tinkerbell, and it was the only one my mom could download using the Piltover wifi she got from her work. I watched it every day, dreaming of the fairies and how I could be one if I tried. That didn't work out. I wanted to be Rosetta more than anything, wanting nothing more than to care for plants. Now I care for them and sell them, so in a way, I am Rosetta, just less girly. Jinx reminded me of Tinkerbell, always working on some little gadget. I loved that more than anything. And I love her more than anything.
Jinx looks up at me through her eyelashes, a glint of mischief in her eyes. “I just got home from work, dude” I reason, but she doesn't listen. She goes back down to my neck, nipping at the skin. I suck in the air in surprise. She always knows how to suck the air out of my lungs. It's a blessing and a curse at the same time. My nails dig into her flesh, definitely leaving crescent-shaped indents on her skin. Eventually, I find enough strength to push Jinx off of me, to which her lips turn into a frown, lines indenting her perfect face. “What, did I do something wrong?” she asks, and I frown. She could never do anything wrong. At least, not to me. “Never,” I start, “I was just thinking about how tired I am, and how the bed would be so much more comfy” A smirk goes across my face as I look at Jinx’s, waiting for her to get what I was saying. Her eyebrows are furrowed together like she knows what I'm trying to say, but just isn't getting the message. Then, her eyes light up, and a Cheshire grin covers her pale face. “Yeah, tired, right” Jinx drawls.
I grab Jinx’s hand, pulling her to my bed. I lean myself up against my headboard, then pat my lap, giving Jinx the throne to sit upon. She hops on gladly, practically jumping onto me. Her legs wrap around my waist, and I pull her impossibly close. My hands and fingers graze her thigh, going higher and higher inch by inch. Her breath is fanned over my face, hot and sweet, just like she is. She mumbles something along the lines of “Oh my god I love you, you're too perfect for me toots,” She's vocal, to say the least. I kiss her shoulders, going up higher to reach her neck. I suck at her skin leaving purple bruises behind. I'm only hoping Silco doesn't come after me for marking his beloved daughter. I'd be dead meat.
She whimpers quietly and I moan in return. My hands finally reach Jinx's ass. I grab at her flesh, making her rut her hips at the motion. I smirk against her skin, just as she did to me mere minutes earlier. “So good to me toots,” she says, pulling my face up my chin to look at her. I look at her face, her cerulean eyes, her pale skin, her pretty cheekbones. I lean forward, enrapturing her lips in a sweet kiss. She tastes of sugar and gunmetal, to which I'm slightly concerned but too enraptured in her lips to care. My hands continue up her body, past her waist and I stop them at her belly. I pulse my thumbs into her skin, feeling her tattoos and scars. I love every part of it, and I always will. My lungs start to burn from the lack of air, and I wish internally that they would just shut up so I could kiss my girlfriend. But needs are needs, so I disconnect my lips from hers, earning a whine from Jinx. We both pant, wanting nothing more than to intertwine our lips again. My head goes back to the headboard. Jinx leans her head on my chest. I bring my hand up from her belly to her hair, petting her hair gently. “I think that makeout sesh can excuse my  breaking and entering, right?” She says breathlessly, trying to get out of my scolding. But right now, I couldn't care less. “Yeah, it definitely does.”
My complicated feelings towards Glitter Force
(Remember this is all my opinion please don't attack me)
So I wanted to talk about Glitter force a bit because I have a bit of a love hate relationship with it. So now that Glitter Force has been removed from Netflix and with absolutely no plans of renewing it at least at the time of this post I thought it was a good time to talk about it.
So lets go back in time to 2016. It was a dark and stormy night I was fresh into middle school I had transferred out of my shitty Catholic Elementary School and started public middle school.
I was bullied relentlessly in elementary school so I wasn't in a good headspace at the time.
Anyways I was mindlessly scrolling through Netflix when I came across Glitter Force, during this time I had gotten into Sailor moon and it looked similar so I clicked on it and watched the first few episodes.
I thought it was pretty good at the time and binged the whole season. Anyways because of that I would watch glitter force related videos on YouTube and then I came across an AMV (yes I was that kid😂) of New Stage I recognized Happy and Peace on the thumbnail next to two other girls (Melody and I think Muse) and wondered who they were as the title of the video was in Japanese, so I clicked on it and oh my God my little 11 year old mind was blown. It was awesome! and I wanted more of that content and I wanted to know more about the other girls. The I came across Azen Zone's reviews and fell in love with the franchise.
Anyways I didn't actually get to watch a pretty cure season in subs until I think Huggto on one of those free streaming sites and came across the Smile sub and Dear God was it leagues above Glitter Force because the dub was dog water compared to the original. And I was surprised that they had left a good amount of episodes out of the dub as well.
So I'm going to get into the gripes I have with GF/Doki Doki. In no way am I blaming the dub cast as I'm sure they had to work with what they were given but looking at the cast. GF and Doki Doki was stacked with really good actors.
The Cast:
Glitter Force:
Laura Bailey who played Cure Happy/Glitter Lucky
Colleen O'Shaughnessey played Cure Sunny/Glitter Sunny
Alex Cazares played Cure Peace/Glitter Peace
Danielle Judovits played Cure March/Glitter Spring
Kate Higgens played Cure Beauty/Glitter Breeze
Debi Derryberry played Candy
Todd Haberkorn played Pop
Mary Elizabeth McGlynn played Royal Queen/Queen Euphoria and Majorina/Brooha
Keith Silverstein played Wolfurun/Ulric Akaoni/Brute and Joker/Rascal
Glitter Force Doki Doki
Debi Derryberry played Cure Heart/Glitter Heart
Cassandra Lee Morris played Cure Diamond/Glitter Diamond
Melissa Fahn played Cure Rosetta/Glitter Clover
Stephanie Sheh played Cure Sword/Glitter Sword and Raquel
Erica Lindbeck played Cure Ace/Glitter Ace and Dabyi/Davi
Tara Sands played Sharuru/Kippy
Bryce Papenbrook played Lance
Ray Chase played Bel
Benjamin Disqen Ira
Carrie Keranen played Marmo
Cherami Leigh played Regina
Grant George played Joe Okada
Kirk Thornton played Sebastian
So the acting I don't mind at times, the name changes, don't mind that either, Pokemon was known for doing this back then all the way up until Ash's exit from the anime. There were also times where the scene would darken the mostly happened when the girls used their attacks I can see them doing this because they didn't want to cause any health risks and cause seizures so it didn't bother me too much. So what's the issue then?
One of the biggest issues I had when it came to Glitter force after watching the original was how much they changed. They removed a lot of episodes. For example Smile had 48 episodes and Glitter force removed 8 while Doki Doki had 49 episodes and Glitter force removed 19 episodes and even combined some of the episodes which kind of made them clunky. The episodes removed were the ones focused on culture and I guess you can use the excuse it by saying that they removed it so that they wouldn't confused kids but thats still a pretty bad excuse they also changed it so that Glitter force took place in the United States and that just seems a bit silly to me.
They also removed the episode about Yayoi's dad and understanding why she was named Yayoi which is concidered one of the best episodes in the season and I've seen some people say that it's one of the best in the francise. Another thing that annoyed me was that they removed the episode where Brian a student exchange student from America transfered into their class, this episode was about a language barrier between him and Akane so I can see why they didn't want to dub it but they end up still mentioning him in a later episode so if they didn't want to confuse the audiance they failed. I mean what they could have done is have him speak in a diffrent language and say he came from i don't know Spain instead of America. They did this in the Tokyo Mew mew dub but I digress.
They also removed the episode where the girls go and visit Miyuki's grandma which I don't really understand why. Another thing I did not like was the fact they seemed to try and remove any scene where the Cures are sad or tone it down unless there was no way to cut it out they even tried to make those scenes comedic as well which is just, Why? (Minor spoilers for Smile Precure) For example in the final episode of the season the girls they have to say goodbye to Candy and Pop as they have to go back to Marchland. In the original once they saw that Candy had already disapeared thats when they broke down crying.
Another thing that kind of bothered me as well as alot of other people is that the acting felt, flat at times. One of the most brought up scenes is when Majorina almost killed Nao's siblings when you compare both scenes it's just really jarring to watch. They even added voice lines that weren't in the original. I think the people handling the dub just didn't want to upset/scare kids or make their parents upset so they tried to tone down/cut the darker moments out of the show. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing but kids can still enjoy a show even if theres darker moments.
I was also told that Glitter Force was homophobic but I never really understood where that came from. Maybe I just missed it? Idk
While Pretty Cure is about friendship and teamwork Smile was trying to show kids that you shouldn't give up and that sad things happen in life. This was because the year before japan suffered a really bad earthquake/tsunami which resulted in the deaths of Thousands of people. Smile Pretty Cure was made in order to comfort people who lost their homes or their loved ones. Glitter force while theres nothing wrong with this the producers seemed to be trying to push the message of friendship, teamwork while kind of neglecting the message of not giving up hope and I've seen alot of people think it's disrespectful concidering the circumstances and what led to Smile's creation
Anyways for as much as I criticize Glitter force and Glitter Force Doki Doki I have to admit that theres a chance without it I never would have discovered Pretty Cure as early as I did. And if you look at my blog you can tell I really love this franchise. And while it's kind of sad to see it go I think it's best that the trademark can finally rest after being in limbo for so long.
Would have been interesting to see what they did with the all stars movies tho
~Mana Aida/Cure Heart~
~ Cure Ace was, once again, stressing the whole team out. You weren’t defeating a Jikochuu fast enough for her standards, so of course, she was rushing you. Eventually, her five minutes were up, so she reverted back to her normal self.
~ When the battle concluded, you all went to find Aguri. Of course, when you did, she started scolding you for not being fast enough. That was it for you. You began yelling at her, angry at how she made everyone stressed out because of her own problem.
~ Mana, hating conflict, tried to put herself between the two of you. But that just made you start scolding her as well. You told her it wasn’t okay for Aguri to act like that, and that she shouldn’t let it slide.
~ Fortunately for you, Mana gave up. She knew you were right, so she stopped trying to defend her. She still doesn’t believe that fighting is the answer, but she knows that being gentle isn’t always either.
~Rikka Hishikawa/Cure Diamond~
~~~🔷~~~🔷~~~🔷~~~
~ All you wanted to do was have fun with your friends at the mall. And while you did sort of consider Aguri to be your friend, she could be pretty unbearable sometimes. Especially since she felt the need to be overly critical of every little thing everyone did.
~ You passed by a small toy store, and a cute plushie caught your eye. You expressed how you might want to buy it, and Aguri said that you’re too old for toys, and that you should grow up. She had completely rained on your parade, so you lashed out at her.
~ Rikka was happy to join in. She defended you, saying that Aguri had no right to judge other people’s interests. She even admitted to liking cute things too, even owning many frog themed items in her bedroom.
~ Aguri eventually apologized, though obviously annoyed. Afterwards, Rikka took you into the store, and stayed with you while you bought the plush. She even picked out a little frog plush for herself, so you wouldn’t feel alone.

~Alice Yotsuba/Cure Rosetta~
~~~♣️~~~♣️~~~♣️~~~
~ Alice usually pays Aguri’s attitude no mind. You, on the other hand, couldn’t. Everyone was having tea at Alice’s mansion, and Sebastian, her butler, prepared not just the tea itself, but also the sweets. They were really good, despite them being a tad burnt. He tried insisting to make new ones, but everyone said they were fine.
~ Despite this, Aguri couldn’t help being overly critical, as usual. You thought that other than being a bit crispy, it was almost unnoticeable that the sweets were a bit burnt. But apparently, Aguri had super-tastebuds, because she kept making jabs about them tasting odd. While Sebastian’s face remained stoic, you knew it was getting to him, so you scolded her.
~ You let her know that the sweets were wonderful, and that she was just being picky. You fully expected Alice to try and calm you down, like she usually does. But instead, she calmly added that Aguri should just be grateful for what she got.
~ After that, Aguri kept her mouth shut for the rest of the tea party, and ate the sweets without any fuss. As you were leaving, Alice pulled you aside to her kitchen, where Sebastian had prepared special sweets just for you as a way of thanking you. Alice thanked you as well for showing respect for him.
~Makoto Kenzaki/Cure Sword~
~~~♠️~~~♠️~~~♠️~~~
~ When you’re a teenager, voice cracks are pretty much unavoidable. Even when you’re an idol, which is the case for Makoto. Even though she warmed up her voice plenty before going on stage, a small crack was heard. Of course, she kept singing, ignoring her small mistake like the professional she is. However, Aguri couldn’t do the same.
~ After the show, everyone went back stage to congratulate Makoto on her performance. But, of course, Aguri couldn’t resist pointing out the tiny flaw. Makoto brushed it off, saying it just happens, and she’ll try harder next time. But Aguri kept on teasing.
~ You eventually told her to shut up, and that it wasn’t a big deal. You also said that Makoto already deals with enough criticism, and is aware of her mistakes, so she doesn’t need to hear any from her friends. Makoto became flustered, and tried telling you it was fine, but you continued.
~ Aguri eventually apologized, and left. Makoto thanked you, but said you didn’t need to do that for her. You let her know that Aguri was being unnecessarily mean about it, and that she doesn’t need hate from her own friends. Makoto just blushed, and thanked you again.
