“Clerics Have Necromancy”
8/28/24
******
Sometimes, I wonder—
“Promise me?” said Caroline Argo.
After stumbling from sport to sport, school to school—
“Promise me, if something should ever go wrong…” Caroline asked the Boy Detective.
From musical to musical & play to play—
“I need you,” said Wendy Darling by her bedroom window.
If, these days, I am being brave, still trying to connect, despite all that I’ve survived—
“I felt that, and I bet you did, too,” said Slightly of Neverland.
Or if I am blundering through life, collecting ghosts.
“Promise me, you’ll send me a sign, to tell me you’re somewhere?” asked Caroline.
I wonder if this is how my Cleric felt in “Dungeons and Dragons,” the first time he used the same coin for healing as he had to speak with the dead.
“Sometimes people leave you… Halfway through the wood… Others may deceive you… You decide what's good… You decide alone… But no one is alone,” said Cinderella.
Wonder if you should let yourself laugh with the world—
“I believe in you,” said Rosemary Pilkington.
Or cry, as time and chance slip on—
“His eyes were blue. His eyes were brown. His eyes were green,” questioned the Lost Girls.
And try to memorize their faces.
“A little brush of whiskers, and that distant smile…” said Alice Spencer.
Because you’ve glimpsed at possibility, but only one you know by heart:
“In the story, there’s no moment of farewell, you know,” said Alfred Hallam.
You know?

10 best royal exhibitions to continue the Coronation celebrations, from Buckingham Palace to Blenheim
The day of the Coronation is over but these remarkable royal exhibitions across the UK means the excitement doesn’t need to be
By Natasha Leake
18 May 2023
The glow from King Charles III’s Coronation is starting to fade, but there is plenty more pomp and ceremony to be discovered at these extraordinary royal exhibitions currently being staged across the country.
Stately homes and royal palaces have transformed their sumptuous rooms into backdrops for stunning showcases of royal regalia, period costumes and mementos of past Coronations.
From Blair Castle to Castle Howard; Blenheim to Buckingham Palace, book a date at one of these must-see royal exhibitions to keep the celebrations going.
Tumblr media
Through a carefully curated selection of more than 200 pieces, the Kensington Palace fashion exhibition draws parallels between the pomp, ceremony and performance of the contemporary red carpet and the pressure to ‘see and be seen’ at Georgian court.
One-of-a-kind creations worn by Lizzo, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga et al. are juxtaposed with outfits worn by 18th century movers and shakers in the State Apartments, which, handily, is where the showcase is staged.

Blenheim Palace is using the occasion of the Coronation to celebrate its historic connection with the Royal Family.
With a collection of previously unseen artefacts, crowns, coronets, robes, and photo albums, take a trip into the world of royal fashion with an impeccably restored Norman Hartnell silk gown, worn by the then Rosemary Spencer-Churchill to the Queen’s Coronation in 1953.
Also on display are costumes from Bridgerton and The Crown, and a page from a Blenheim visitor’s book, which includes the elegant inked signatures of Wallis Simpson (the future Duchess of Windsor) and her second husband, Ernest A. Simpson.

Originally launched in 2022, the award-winning Castle Couture exhibition returns this summer to Blair Castle, the ancestral home of the Atholl family, with an extended edition that showcases statement designs, intricate embroidery, innovative textiles, and style influences from the 18th century through to the 20th century.
Among the highlights are delightfully delicate ostrich feather and Brussels lace fans by the renowned Parisienne craftsman Duvelleroy, the appointed supplier to Queen Victoria.
There are also pieces from the personal collection of the late Katharine Stewart-Murray, Duchess of Atholl, Scotland’s first Scottish female Member of Parliament.

In a homage to the Regency period, visitors are invited to take a step back into the world of the Georgians with an exhibition that looks at how fashion trends reflected the significant trade, travel and technological advances of the period.
A highlight of the exhibition is a rarely displayed, full-length portrait of Queen Charlotte (of Bridgerton fame) by Thomas Gainsborough, dated from around 1781, which usually hangs in the White Drawing Room at Windsor Castle.
The showcase also features one of the earliest surviving British royal wedding dresses: a stunning gown worn by Princess Charlotte of Wales in 1816.

The late Queen Elizabeth II’s beloved corgis captured the hearts of the nation the late monarch’s funeral.
Now they are being celebrated as part of a free exhibition at the Wallace Collection, in central London.
The one-room display features touching imagery of the Queen with her corgis.
It coincides with the museum’s exhibition, ‘Portraits of Dogs: From Gainsborough to Hockney,’ which celebrates human devotion to dogs over the centuries through a carefully curated selection of 50 paintings, sculptures, drawings and taxidermy.

Situated in a pair of beautifully restored early Georgian townhouses, the exhibition showcases centuries of royal fans from across the globe, including a special, printed, English fan marking the restoration of Charles II and the contemporary fans made by The Fan Museum in honour of the late Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee.
The exhibition promises to be ‘not merely a look back on what has been but a rally of hope for what is to come.’
King Charles III has also taken an avid interest in the Fan Museum’s work.

The Long Gallery at Castle Howard, home to the Howard family for more than 300 years, is hosting an incredible exhibition featuring an exact replica of the Crown Jewels and peers’ robes worn to coronations gone by.
Set in 10,000 glorious acres on the edge of the Yorkshire moors, Castle Howard was commissioned in 1699 by the 3rd Earl of Carlisle from Sir John Vanbrugh, who later conceived Blenheim Palace.
The 1st Earl of Carlisle was descended from Lord William Howard, the youngest son of Thomas Howard, 4th Duke of Norfolk (the current Duke of Norfolk organised the King and Queen’s Coronation).

During the last Coronation, the hotel had to secure extra flagpoles in order to fly banners for the many different royals and dignitaries staying there.
The archive overflows with Coronation material, which is why Claridge’s unveiled a space showcasing the hotel’s status as ‘the Royal Hostelry.’
Mementos on display include pages from Queen Victoria’s diary, fans created for the coronation of King George V and Queen Mary, and Claridge’s menus and cocktail cards created for the coronations of King George VI in 1937 and Queen Elizabeth II in 1953.
Pictured: A collection of royal mementos including featuring a book of 53 photographs of the then Prince of Wales, and an order of service from the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II

The world watched in awe as the newly crowned King Charles III and Queen Camilla processed from Westminster Abbey back to Buckingham Palace in the Gold State Coach.
This extraordinary regal treasure is available to view at the Royal Mews at Buckingham Palace, alongside the Diamond Jubilee State Coach, which transported Their Majesties to the Abbey ahead of the service.
Also housed in the mews? The famous Windsor Grey horses, which drew the magnificent carriages on the day.

At the epicentre of the Coronation was Westminster Abbey. So where better to delve into the gilded history of the captivating service?
A new exhibition in the Chapter House reveals the key elements of the royal ceremony, which has taken place at the Abbey for nearly a thousand years.
Featuring historic illustrations and archive photography, it promises to unpack and explain the Coronation’s magnificent ceremonial regalia and objects.

This is a masterpost for my ocs Mara and Rosemary for @smallartistocbracket, and also may contain other information about them and my other ocs outside of the competition.
My first oc, Mara, is a teenage girl who with her friend Vivi and sibling Spencer, wander into the forests of amenia (the setting of the story, to be exact) one summer(Vivi is actually the protagonist, but this aint about her right now). Mara may come off as cold and aggressive, but she's actually fun and rebellious, with a soft side. Their actual name is Margot, just everyone calls her Mara instead.
(Ref of Mara)
Tumblr media
My second oc is Rosemary, and she's a wood nymph who lives in one of the villages in the forests! She's the first forest being the group encountered, and she takes them back to the village. Rosemary is the same age as the trio and she's sweet and fun and loves flowers and exploring (she has a journal full of collected information on plants, mushrooms and flowers). When Mara and Rosemary meet, Rosemary instantly has a crush. But as they both hang out with each other, Mara is charmed by Rosemary's brightness and develops a crush on her as well.
(Ref of Rosemary and little doodles of her and Mara and Vivi and spencer)

A Ghost Story for Christmas: The Ice House (BBC, 1978)
"Who are these people, the people here?"
"Guests. They saw our advertisement and came to us, as you did."
"You take no care of them."
"You do not see the care we take of them."
"Comparatively. Your care is all for me. You have given me individual attention."
"Well, you are the most recent. They have all been here some time."
#a ghost story for christmas#the ice house#1978#bbc#horror tv#single play#classic tv#john bowen#derek lister#john stride#elizabeth romilly#geoffrey burridge#david beames#gladys spencer#eirene beck#sam avent#dennis jennings#ronald mayer#rosemary hill#the last of the og series and generally regarded as the weakest entry; Gordon Clark had left the bbc to go freelance at this point and so#there existed no real continuity with the other plays at all by now (excepting producer Rosemary Hill). Bowen is a writer i admire a great#deal but I'm afraid i never entirely 'got' the ice house.. it's just a little.. obtuse? a vague sense of the uncanny‚ but perhaps too vague#it's also annoyingly obvious in places: Bowen sows subtle seeds of an unnatural attraction between siblings Burridge and Romilly and slowly#draws the comparison with the twin flowered vine in the story‚ but a subsequent scene of the two making out explicitly intercut with shots#of the vine feels almost offensively patronising. and yet by the end you're wishing it would spoonfeed‚ just a little‚ at least to explain#quite what's happening to John Stride's protagonist at the close. Stride's performance‚ incidentally‚ was a big disappointment when i first#watched this however many years ago; i thought him dull and listless. that's one area I've changed my mind completely‚ he's actually very#very good‚ giving a lovely subtle performance of a self assured‚ slightly blowhard middle aged business type who is very quietly#floundering on the inside. all three leads are very strong‚ and there is more to enjoy here than I remembered. but alas it is still#probably the weakest of the original run‚ and just lacks whatever effervescent quality makes the others into such singular successes

📽️ This Means War (2012)
This movie was predictable, cliched, corny, and ENTERTAINING! Y’all know I love a good rom com. I know what I’m getting into. They’re all cliched and corny, and I love pretty much every one of them. Chris Pine and Tom Hardy is not a pairing I expected or would have put together myself, but it works really well. Their characters played off each other very nicely, and their relationship evolution was, in my opinion, more entertaining than the love triangle. I honestly don’t like the premise of this movie with the female main character; the whole things just seems gross and wrong to me. But I could watch. Chris Pine and Tom Hardy in like a buddy cop type of movie. That would be great; they made this movie.
Sex/nudity: 5/10 (much sex talk, many sexual innuendoes, implied sex)
Language: 4/10 (one f-word, multiple other instances of crude language)
Violence: 3/10 (two types of violence in this movie: some actual violence with gunfights, fistfights, etc and violence for comedic effect)
Overall rating: 6/10

Interview: Rosemary Loup
Dossier:
Name: Rosemary “Rosie” Loup
Age: 23
Species: Werewolf
Circle: Night
Known Relationships: Member of the Talbot Pack
Interview:
What's your name?
“Oh.” Rosemary swallows and looks around a moment, her hands twitching as she fidgets. “Rosemary Loup, but uh, my friends all call me Rosie. Or they used to, I guess.”
How do you know Tabitha Spencer?
“Tabitha? I mean we’re both turned wolves, not bitten. That sort of makes you stick out around here in the wolf packs. We were from different ones but she was always nice to me. One of the few people that night who seemed to care that I was there.”
How do you know Jose Alves Cruz?
For this, she can’t look up, taking a deep breath. What is there to say. “Jose is...I don’t know. He’s fine. He’s the mayor. And he bossed me around that night like I was some kind of servant. He asked me to grab him something from under the bar and bring it to him so I did. It was in this kind of tin box I guess. My hands itched for a minute, while I was carrying it, like I thought maybe it was silver, but I gave it to him anyway. But it wasn’t, right? It wasn’t because it shot Hollis so it had to be iron.”
How do you know Hollis Fiala?
“I don’t!” Rosemary answers quickly. “I don’t. I don’t know them. I just know they’re running for Orator but we’re not supposed to vote for them because that’s what your parents said. Because they won’t help us out or whatever. I don’t know them. I wouldn’t shoot them.”
Did you see the shot happened/What happened that night from your perspective?
She swallows, unable to meet Connor’s eyes. Her voice gets quiet. “I was on the floor when it happened, when there was that shot. I heard the chamber click first, but it only clicked one time. I heard the gunshot before I heard the click. There should have been two. And then everything was chaos and I was so scared. I saw your parents try to run for me, make sure I wouldn’t shift, but I did anyway and it just...I made such a mess, just like I always do. And now they have to figure out how to pay for it without getting Thaddeus blacklisted from the Strat all because I couldn’t keep it together.”
When did you get the invitation for the party/know you were going to work it?
“We’re one of the only catering companies that exclusively does Underground parties so we get a lot of traffic. Not even Aware are allowed to work for us to avoid anything scary happening. Your grandma set me up with the job after I had to drop out of school. They pay enough and they’re really nice people. God, and it’s all my fault, isn’t it? They’re probably going to fire me after I shifted like that. I’ve kept my head down and just followed the rules for so long.”
Did you go with someone?
“Just everyone in the catering company.” Rosie pushes her hair back from her face and the tears start to prickle at the corners of her eyes. “They’re good people. They are. I’m good people.”
Do you own a gun/have you ever owned a gun?
She shakes her head. “No. No I never owned a gun, not ever. I don’t even touch them. My ex-boyfriend, he used to have them, but I never liked it so I kept away even when they were at our apartment. We broke up when he turned me and that was three years ago, so I haven’t been around one since.
Rosemary reaches for Connor’s arm, pulling on his sleeve gently. “Can I talk to you about something? Off the record.”

Tumblr media
Your eyes flickered around the kitchen, trying to spot a familiar mess of brown curls that you’d lost track of about an hour ago. “Hey,” You said to Penelope, putting an arm around her shoulders, “Have you seen my husband anywhere?”
The blonde shook her head, taking the opportunity to glance around the house to see if he was hiding in plain sight, “Haven’t seen him,” she shared a look with Emily, who shrugged, “Did you check outside?”
Shaking your head, you sighed while picking up some trash from the counter and setting it in the trash. “No, thanks though,” you flashed them a small smile before continuing your way around the house, he wasn’t in the office or the library either.
The house was decorated in a hybrid celebration of Spencer’s birthday and Halloween. Décor for the latter had started going up in September, but the fake spider that Spencer put in the guest bathroom still made your heart race. Balloons fluttered in the air while you strode past them, “Hey, there’s the lady of the house,” your head snapped up.
“Hi Dave,” you greeted Rossi with a hug, “How are you enjoying the party?”
He lifted his glass of punch up, “Other than the fact that I’m not sure how you got the punch to turn green, it’s a beautiful party. You’ve outdone yourself.”
Thanking him, you promised to come back and chat once you found Spencer, who was still missing. As for the punch, you were under strict orders not to tell anyone how the punch had turned green, but you knew that Spencer had used spinach as a natural food dye. Personally, you were avoiding the liquid like the plague.
Finally checking outside, the only thing you found was Matt’s older four chasing each other with glow sticks while their father watched on. Kristy was inside with Rosemary, who wasn’t quite old enough to chase her older siblings yet. You smiled at the thought that maybe next year she’d be able to join the big kids.
Henry and Michael were on the playset, the older of the two trying to impress his younger brother by crossing the monkey bars. You waved at Michael on the swing before closing the door behind you, turning around to continue your search in the house, jumping when you found someone behind you. “Oh,” you hung your head in shock, “You scared me.”
Your sister smiled at you, “Sorry, I saw you looked like you were searching for something, I wanted to see if you needed anything.”
JJ made your chest ache. Every time she offered to do something for you or surprised you with a gift, she continued to get into your good graces, but it just reminded you of your broken bond. Shaking your head, you looked around the living room, “I’m just looking for Spencer.”
Recognition flickered in her eyes, “He went upstairs with Amelia about ten minutes ago. I didn’t see him come down.”
You sighed in relief once you knew where your husband and baby were, “Thank you.” Making your way to the stairs, you turned and spoke up again, “And J, take some leftovers home! I really don’t need all of it.”
Hopefully, you could convince everyone to take at least something home. Throwing parties was a curse, there was always too much food. You made your way upstairs, checking the master bedroom before peeking your head into the nursery, finally finding Spencer.
He was sitting cross-legged on the floor with Mila propped up in front of him, still learning how to stand unassisted. You leaned against the door frame, watching Spencer adjust her Halloween costume as she stared at him in wonder.
It was a tradition in your family for your mom to make the costume for Halloween, at least the first one, and Spencer was more than willing to adopt any tradition available to him, especially if it involved Halloween. You gave your mom free rein of the costume idea, so you shouldn’t have been surprised when she showed up before the party today with a baby duck costume in tow.
She was blowing raspberries at him while he brushed some feathers out of her face, “We’ll have to trim some of those, honey,” he spoke to her gently. He had refrained from putting the hood over her head, either because he didn’t want to ruin the tiny ponytail she had sticking up from her head or because he didn’t want her to get too warm, but she seemed more than content to be dressed in the bright yellow outfit.
You were thankful that she’d be comfortable in the costume because the rest of the week would be jam-packed. Tomorrow night was the FBI trunk or treat, then a Halloween party at Rossi’s, then actual Halloween, and then a Dia De Los Muertos party at Penelope’s to round off the week.
Honestly, you weren’t sure who was going to be more exhausted by the end of the week, you or Mila.
Eventually, you caught the gaze of your eight-month-old, who reached out and made grabby hands at you, exposing your location to Spencer, who turned his head to look at you, “Hey,” he said, still holding her upright even though his eyes weren’t on her.
“Hi,” you greeted back, unable to take your eyes off of the baby. More specifically, you were unable to take your eyes off of her costume.
You took a seat on the floor across from Spencer, who helped Mila off of her feet so that she could crawl to you, “Go see mama,” he urged her gently, watching as her tiny arms and legs carried her across the floor.
Once she reached you, she pushed herself up on your leg until you scooped her up, settling her in your lap and raising your eyebrows at him, “You know there’s a party going on downstairs.”
“I had noticed that, yes,” he answered, neatly folding the hood of Amelia’s costume and setting it in a pile.
Adjusting the bow on top of her head, you craned your head down and kissed the side of her head—she gurgled in response. “Did you know that they’re all here for you?”
Spencer smiled slightly, “I knew that too.”
Mila continued to babble while you looked at your husband curiously, “And yet,” you started, “You’re up here, putting her Halloween costume on while you should be at your birthday party.”
“I just wanted to see her in it,” he confessed, eyes flickering down at his daughter in her baby duck costume.
You had to admit, she was heart-achingly cute in the handmade costume. You were so happy when your mom brought up making the costume, not wanting to ask right out for it.
From the day she was born, Amelia was surrounded by family, you and Spencer made sure of it. She was cuddled up in the hospital with a blanket that Penelope crocheted. Even her nickname—Mila—had been granted to her by Derek’s daughter, who couldn’t quite swing the three-syllable name at the time.
There was a pit in your chest that was brought upon you by the symbolism of the costume, you often wondered what life would be like if your eldest sister was still around. You wondered what she’d think of your baby’s middle name—Rose—and if she’d think it was cool. “Hey, Spence?” You whispered, carefully standing up with Amelia in tow.
“Yes, my love?” He responded, following your lead and getting up off the floor, taking the baby from you, and changing her into pajamas.
You hummed behind him, taking the discarded costume and folding it up, placing it on top of the dresser until you needed it tomorrow. “Happy birthday,” you told him for the nth time today.
He smiled at you, resting Mila on his hip before he turned back to you, “Thank you.” Spencer leaned over and kissed you, the action receiving a coo from your daughter.
Laughing softly, you cupped her head tenderly, “It was a pretty good year, huh?”
Spencer pulled you into his side, you being held in one arm, and Mila in the other. “Yeah,” he murmured, “This one was definitely a favorite.”
Becoming a parent with Spencer was a dream come true, there was nothing you could think of that would top this year. Tilting your head back, you looked up at him, “So, what are you going to wish for this year?”
His gaze flittered down to the baby on his hip.
You shook your head immediately, “Pick something else,” you said, giggling at his silent suggestion. To you, it felt much too soon to think about another baby, and you knew Spencer was mostly joking. The two of you had previously decided on waiting.
Spencer sighed in response, looking between you and Mila, “More of this,” he answered, “The three of us, together.”
Raising your eyebrows, “Avoiding a party together.”
“As a family should,” he affirmed, beaming at you.
You were smiling so much that your cheeks ached, and you nodded your head in the direction of the door, “C’mon, there’s a cake downstairs with your name on it. Literally.”
