What are Rose's headcanons? I want to know more about the toughest girl in the squad.

That’s definitely one of her titles! It always felt like there was more to Rose than we knew, even with everything that was revealed about her near the end of the season! Plus, unlike other members of the Flying Squad, she appeared as a suspect multiple times, while most appeared only once or not at all!

(Excluding Diego because most of his suspect appearances were when he wasn’t officially a part of the team.)

Now, on to her headcanons!

Thanks to her underground work, Rose knows about the supernatural community. Likewise, she can usually tell who’s hiding a supernatural secret, but not always what it is specifically. (She knows Argo and Diego aren't human but won’t confront them unless necessary.)

Rose and her husband didn’t marry because of love (though they did care for each other, in a platonic way) and instead for reasons they never revealed to friends or family to protect themselves. Even after her husband died, Rose never revealed the truth behind their marriage

When working underground or undercover, Rose avoided going to the hospital no matter how bad the injury was. Even after joining the Flying Squad, she hates visiting doctors and prefers to patch herself up after an injury. But when the wound is too much for her to bandage, Rose goes to Dick (before and after joining the Squad). It's how she was able to be recruited since Dick introduced her to Arthur given how hard she was to find during her underground working days

She always has snacks for humans and rats on her. If you're ever hungry, Rose has you covered with cheese and trail mix!

She struggles with phantom pains from her missing arm. There are days when her scars hurt so bad it feels like she’s losing her arm all over again. The prosthetic arm helps a little, but she refuses to let people see her break from the pain, so she'll only do it when she’s alone

Rose is surprisingly good with children. While she never wanted any of her own, she’s always had a soft spot for them. She can be very maternal when necessary and always seems to know how to calm a screaming child

Rose loves singing. It's one of her favourite hobbies, whether it be while working or to lull Ratsputin to sleep. And all that practice pays off as she’s a very talented singer; Viola tries to get her to sing duets with her all the time! (Rose only agrees if it is a song she likes)

To probably no one's surprise, Rose is never unarmed. She always has a weapon hidden on her, and not even the most skilled cops can find all her hiding places

Let’s get to her! And possible tw for drinking and guns-

- when she first joined the Concordian Flying Squad, she definitely pranked Arthur-

- she has a habit of picking up people. She’ll sometimes give a heads up, sometimes she’ll pick you up from behind- there really are endless possibilities to what she can do. She picked up Arthur from behind once, scaring the hell out of him. She also ran over to Richard, hugged him and lifted him up while laughing.

- best friends with Richard (I might start shipping Rose and Richard at this rate and you cannot stop me). They both definitely pranked Arthur together you cannot change my mind-

- she’s always making jokes about her arm like: time to take out this guy single handedly! Or something- Arthur hates these jokes, while Richard just encourages her.

- hangs out with Richard a lot. These two are really really good friends and have become that one duo in the Flying Squad Arthur and almost everyone is extremely scared of-

- Rose feeds her rat a lot of things- she basically sits down, puts Ratsputin next to her, and then eats food and also gives Ratsputin food to eat and it is adorable.

- really fast runner. She runs fast in anything. Heels, boots- she runs so fast it’s legit terrifying.

- one time, she and Richard were in a rush, so she just got down, let Richard climb onto her back, she proceeded to get up and run faster than the speed of light-

- she has a really nice and really loud laugh. Richard laughs with her and it’s really sweet

- she likes kids. She’s good around kids, and kids seem to really like her too.

- sometimes, she teams up with richard and pranks the squad when they aren’t busy. And it gets really funny for them and really annoying for the squad sadly.

- she drinks with Maddie in her freetime. They both have some really meaningful and heartfelt conversations…And sometimes it makes them both feel better. They also get absolutely wasted and talk shut about people

- she has tried doing those really dangerous circus stunts with Richard for fun, and they actually work out most of the time. But it didn’t work out this one time and they both panicked a lot- but no one died!

- she likes cheese.

- she has the most unhinged conversations with Richard. Rose would literally walk up to Richard and ask: “Wanna go steal ten stray cats or steal cats from people,” and he would say yes- one time Richard asked Rose to punch him with her mechanical arm so he could see how he is affected by it both physically and mentally. Let’s just say Arthur found Richard in the hospital-

- she sings in the shower.

- amazing spice tolerance- she eats a lot of spicy food and is okay. Richard never understood how.

- omnisexual, she has a girlfriend at one point of time before ended up getting married to a man who was just as chaotic as her (and he died)

- she can dance, she can dance really well. She dances with Richard for fun- and it’s very fun, cause they would act and dance so dramatically, before they suddenly stop and start laughing.

- necklaces and bracelets are her favourite jewellery to wear. As for rings, they are okay for her, not the biggest fan though.

- she tried to make Charles install a gun in her prosthetic arm for fun! He refused…Due to the fact he was scared she could get injured, but she pressed on and he eventually added a small little compartment in her arm when she could place a really small pistol, so she technically has a weapon with her all the time

- she prefers to wear boots compared to heels. Although she is fine wearing heels, they give her the absolute ick and she hates them for how uncomfortable they can get sometimes- boots are also easier to run in so-

As it is, Zhao Yuanzhou should probably have expected this.

A flash of cold steel, and a razor sharp edge of a blade pressed against his neck–

He stops, mimicking how humans acted when caught red handed by raising both his hands, doing his best to affect a sheepish expression.

“I didn't mean to–”

“You're a demon, stop trying to act human,” he hears the boy say, and Zhao Yuanzhou hears the slight tremble in his tone despite the harsh words, the faintest trace of hesitation in his actions.

A lesser demon would've killed this boy by now.

Zhao Yuanzhou deftly side-steps the blade, placing a respectable distance between himself and the boy in the blink of an eye.

“Ah, I've been exposed,” he says easily, nimbly dodging when the boy lunges at him. “Relax, I don't have any bad intentions, really.”

(He simply wanted to take a closer look at the infamous Yunguang Jian, to determine whether it would truly be able to kill him if need be, but it seemed that this descendant of Bingyi wasn't the inheritor of the blade.

In fact, this boy seemed too naive, too easily breakable to be its wielder).

“A demon, willingly walking into the Demon Hunting Bureau–” the boy continues his endless barrage of attacks, “and you still say that you have no bad intentions?”

Zhao Yuanzhou hums, feeling the corners of his lips lift upwards in an amused smile. To be able to view this world in such simple definitions of black and white, this kid truly was too innocent, too untouched by this world.

Who could resist such naivety, such a blank white slate, willingly giving itself up?

Zhu Yan was just a demon, after all.

“You're right, I have bad intentions.”

This time, he rushes towards the boy instead, watching his eyes widen endearingly.

(Up close, he can clearly see the boy's long eyelashes, nearly obscuring his eyes from his angle from above– and there must be something wrong with him, Zhao Yuanzhou decides, if his first thought is that this boy is cute).

“Xiaochen!”

And there's the owner of the Yunguang Jian, rushing at him with the blade encased in a brilliant glow of blue. Zhao Yuanzhou bristles at the interruption, deciding that he isn't interested in it any longer as he swiftly makes his escape.

Xiaochen, huh?

also, if the motp crew were to be reintroduced in the modern world, what do you think their jobs would be if they weren’t police officers?

I’ve been thinking of making a S5 reboot concept, where like the motp cast comes to grimsborough to search for the player because boom they somehow remember thier past lives and how they were all best buds, and I’m stumped on whether to make them regular civilians, or police officers

(Maybe even include a scene where there slightly upset player’s with the grinnsborough police department and won’t join them…)

That sounds like a fantastic idea for an AU concept! It sucks that the MotP characters can't appear in other seasons since it's set like 100+ years in the past, so bringing them back through reincarnation is definitely thinking outside of the box!

You could choose either career option, as both would work! If you went the police route, I think the bigger question would be whether they work for the CPD or if the Flying Squad is still operational/has been brought back with them somehow.

(And having them be upset that the player won't leave the GBPD would be fitting, especially if the player doesn't remember their past life, unlike the Flying Squad…)

Now, for your initial question!

In my "modern-day Flying Squad headcanons" post, I mentioned some potential jobs the Flying Squad could have. But let’s see what else I can come up with for possible careers they could have if they didn't work for a police force…

Arthur Wright: I once headcanoned that he was a professional violinist, so I’m going to reuse that idea! Other than that, maybe a teacher of some sort or a small shop owner? (I don’t know what this man would do besides Police Chief…)

Isaac Bontemps: He’s a bit of a challenge, too…. It would probably be something classy… Maybe an antique dealer? I don’t know what exactly Isaac’s modern-day job would be… I could see him being a boxer in his younger years but stopping after a serious injury, but other than that, I'm at a bit of a loss!

Maddie O’Malley: I could see her working in a car-related field, maybe mechanics and racing on the side. I picture her as someone who enjoys driving fast and the freedom it gives her.

Dick Wells: I think he would still work in the medical field, and if I had to pick something besides a coroner, I would say a doctor, possibly one who works in palliative care since he seems to have no issues dealing with death. Another option could be a mortician if he went the non-medical route.

Viola Pemberton: I could see her following in her parents' footsteps and becoming a pharmacist. She would still act on the side, performing in plays at the local theatre.

Charlie Dupont: An engineer who invents things on the side. It just seems to fit him!

Evie Halloway: A librarian. She would also still write books on the side, probably starting small, like how she had a series in “Pistols and Petticoats” and then expanding and branching out as an independent author.

Rose Zhao: I could see her having worked for the military and, after leaving, taking up bounty hunting. Rose always strikes me as somewhat of an adrenaline junkie, so her career should be equally as exciting!

Diego del Lobo: Probably still an artist and thief on the side, but I’ve always had the headcanon that he makes his own clothes, so his main career could be a tailor/fashion designer.

Runs over. I’m bored. So have a Richard Wells x Rose Zhao random short I wrote. It’s not my best work, but I tried my best- _______________________________________________

“How did you get so many shards of glass in your arm and face again?”

Rose asked as she helped put bandages on Richard’s wounds, chuckling a little.

“Experiment! And it helped me find out about the killer so it’s all worth it! The killer is right-handed!”

Richard said excitedly, throwing his hands into the air while his eyes sparkled. Rose broke into laughter seeing his reaction.

“I guess that is useful. Cheers to that,”

Rose applauded, as she put one more bandage on Richard’s forehead.

“Just don’t do that again. Unless you want to risk more fatal consequences and needing to explain to Chief Wright why you’re in the hospital,” Rose chuckled, mock seriousness in her tone.

“Ahahaha-! Alright alright…I guess that is true,”

Richard laughed with Rose for a moment. They laughed for a good amount of time. Eventually, they ran out of things to laugh about, their laughter slowly dying down.

“Ahahaha-! God…Well thanks again Rose. It was a pleasure having you in my morgue to help out,” Richard thanked with a wide grin. “Quit with the formalities will you? I’m pretty sure the Richard I know wouldn’t talk like that in any conversation!” Rose chuckled. “But no problem! What are friends for anyways?” Rose quickly added. “Yeah. What are friends for. Well, goodbye now,” Richard said, before kneeling down and giving Rose a kiss on the cheek. “Bye!” Rose proceeded to leave the morgue, not questioning what just happened.

Taking a few steps out the morgue, Rose slowly seemed to just process what happened.

“..Wait one damn moment….”

Rose said, the realisation suddenly dawning in her that she got kissed on the cheek, her face turning a bit red from the realisation of what happened.

Meanwhile, Richard was working on something again when Rose barged right in, giving him a scare as he almost jumped out his skin.

“Oh hello Rose-! You’re back quite soon!”

Richard said, smiling at Rose who marched forward and grabbed hum by the collar. This admittedly made Richard a little nervous.

“Oh-! I- did I upset you-? I’m sorry-….”

Richard was cut short when Rose forced him down and kissed him on the cheek.

“And next time if you kiss me, give me a heads up will you? You would have given me a heart attack from how surprised I was,”

Rose chuckled, letting go of Richard’s collar, who now stood there stunned. Rose seemed satisfied and walked out the morgue, leaving Richard there to question everything that just happened.
