Baron trio moment (was too tired for big art)

Hi folks, I know I’m quite late, but here’s a doodle for day 1 of ffiv week 2024!

I went off the prompt “Taste of Freedom”, and drew (rather shabbily) Cecil and Rosa’s reunion in the Tower of Zot— Rosa freed from her physical imprisonment, seeing Cecil freed from his dark sword.

I was today years old when I found out that Rosa is loosely based on Uma Thurman of all people...

For context, FFIV was inspired partially by a movie called The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, which I have yet to watch myself but have read a very interesting article that compares the commonalities between the two. There is (a character?? characters???) named Rose/Venus who is played by Uma Thurman and looks like this:

Who if we compare to Amano's Rosa, there is certainly some resemblance, especially in her hair style in the second image:

I do also find the fact that there is a stageplay version of this movie fascinating, as FFIV's story and presentation reads in a very theatre-like style to me. Would seriously reccomend any FF4head read that article it's very fascinating.

The Baron trio, but they are stuck in an old anime. I needed to try this. I played with Cecil's hair. I don't know, it's funny, but I wouldn't reuse this method of coloring "iridescent". It's still not him, I have to continue to draw the shiny paladin. Not like it's a chore. =D

Idk why, but I imagine Kain to be the type of kid growing up who was mostly good but had the occasional chaotic neutral toxic friend vibes. Like 12 year old Cecil is talking about how some kid keeps calling him a failure knight and Rosa is like "Don't listen to him, you're a perfectly capable fighter" then Kain is just "Judo flip him onto the ground in front of all of his friends, that'll fucking show him"
