If you’re not an experienced angler and trying to decide what type of fishing trip to book on your next vacation down in Cabo San Lucas Mexico, you may get a little confused with terms like inshore and offshore fishing. In this article, we’ll go over the differences to both educate you as well as help you make the best choice for you and your group when booking your next Cabo fishing charters.

Inshore Fishing

One of the more common definition and biggest difference between inshore and offshore fishing is the depth of the water – With 30 meters of water being the standard boundary.  Weather Conditions: Weather has been just right. Warm, not too hot with very light winds, and minimal swells. Water temperatures are right where they should be for this time of year. All of this bring together some quality fishing right now. Temperatures this week were a high of 78 and a low of 63.  Humidity averaged 66%

Average Water Temperatures: Pacific 77F –79F, Sea of Cortez 76F – 79F

Cabo Fishing Report: Striped marlin are the focus these days – with some of pretty decent size. Yellow fin tuna (with a few big ones being found out at Gordo Banks), and Dorado as well as some average size Wahoo are close behind with regards to production of quality catches this week. Inshore fishing has also been producing some very nice size roosterfish.

 St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands

Almost a literal guarantee to catch a blue marlin when you go to the US Virgin Islands. A new marina, built by longtime angler and Guatemalan promoter Fernando Aguilar, provided excellent dockage, kept boats from having to navigate a horrible inlet every day and helped pave the way to making this remote spot one of the easiest places to fish.

Guatemala hosts a ridiculous amount of Pacific sailfish from December through March, with anglers sometimes releasing more than 40 fish a day. Blue marlin make their appearance in these waters as well, so you'll be thankful for the world-class, English-speaking captains at the helm. Top-notch lodges, boats and a fabulous landscape make the Guatemalan experience all the more enticing.

Fishing in Cabo San Lucas in Feb and March

February is a month where we see some brilliant weather for certain intermittent rainstorms in the zone. Normal temperatures range from 75 to 78 degrees with dampness at 65%.

Cabo Fishing Pros Weekly Fishing Report

October 30th – November 5th 2017

Weather Conditions: Weather was perfect for the one of the last Cabo fishing tournaments of the season – the Won Tuna Jackpot tournament. Water temperatures are a couple of degrees higher than normal which have helped create a lot of live bait action for improved fishing.

Temperatures this week were a high of 86 and a low of 74. Humidity averaged 65%

Average Water Temperatures: Pacific 82F –84F, Sea of Cortez 82F – 86F

What’s working: Live bait: Cabalito. Green and cedar plugs

Cabo Fishing report: As mentioned earlier – The Won Tuna Jackpot Tournament finished up last weekend – with 14 tuna weight in over 200 pounds (including 3 over 300 pounds). Local Cabo San Lucas fishing charters represented well this year with “Estrella del Norte” capturing the winning fish at a whopping 338 pounds! – along with a check for over $250K for the lucky angler that chartered the boat.

In addition to the tuna caught in the tournament, there a few other cows (Tuna over 200lbs) caught in the last week as well. In addition to large tuna, there have been lots of Dorado (in the 10# – 45# range). There were also some good blue and striped marlin, and a few nice roosterfish and wahoo.
