Rook / Neve Headcanons!!

Ive been obsessed with Rook/Neve for the last month and wanted to share some of my Headcanons!! (I'll always accept more if anyone else has some ofc! the more the better!)

Rook / Neve Headcanons Part 1

(My)Rook goes by They/Them and She/her, has no real preference though

They are often very personal about their relationship, Neve more so than Rook and she loves that they respect that. Doesn’t stop Rook from being bratty around others unfortunately 

From the moment they shared their first kiss on the docks, Neve spent every single night in Rook’s room. Only ever cuddling and making out before falling asleep. [Until yknow when]

Neve absolutely loves marking her territory in very visual spots. Rook makes sure her love bits are out of the sight because she respects Neve’s professional image.

Rook will deny it if ever brought up/asked but she is always the little spoon. She finds comfort in being held, finds it helps her sleep better. [She got some of the best sleep in her life the first night she and Neve spent the night together.

Rook often shuts down/over stimulates, especially after a mission. Neve often helps her by holding her in her arms tightly or just talking about old cases that she solved while Rook leans her head on her shoulder.

Neve loves Rook's hair. No matter the occasion, sitting down next to each during a team meeting, just hanging out, making out, sleeping etc, her fingers are always entangled in Rook's hair.

Rook loves Wintersend[Christmas basically], Neve doesn’t understand it, but finds it cute

Rook will always bring home stray animals and Neve has to convince her that the can’t keep them all

Neve has a morning skincare routine with a lot of expensive products. Rook will mess with them, not know what any of it is, when Neve isn’t around. Neve knows that Rook does this and doesn't mind.

When Neve first met Rook, she never had a specific brand of perfume she used but the moment she found out Rook loved the smell of Vanilla, she found the best, most expensive brand and wore it exclusively. Rook always smells like strawberry cheesecake because of her body wash.[MAU She bought one bottle from Bath & body works and never looked back]

Rook is surprisingly the better influence with children, while Neve accidentally drops cuss words and the kids learn them.

Neve tends to talk constantly about the books she was currently reading, Rook listens to her even if it's the seventh time that day

Neve is always up before Rook, and on the odd day when Rook wakes first, she’ll prepare breakfast and her favourite coffee for Neve. [The odd time Lucanis pushes Rook away to finish because wtf does Rook know about a healthy breakfast] 

When Rook tends to ramble on about stupid stuff, Neve will kiss her just to shut her up

Will constantly say ‘Huh’ to anything Neve says when she's bored because she knows it will piss her off

One time Neve called Rook ‘chuckles’ and Rook broke down sobbing. Neve had never seen her girlfriend like this before and was terrified.

Rook tends to show their affection more often when they’re alone but doesn’t complain when Neve shows her affection in public

Rook’s love language is acts of service while Neve is more words of affirmation and physical touch

 Rook will often times zone out when Neve talks, just staring at her with giant heart eyes

When Neve is neck deep in a case and she’s too busy to come home/talk to Rook, Rook will send Wisps to deliver lil love notes / In a modern setting, she’ll send their pet cat 

Modern NeveRook have a orange tabby cat named Hermie

Rook on more than one occasion, has fallen asleep while hugging Neve

Neve was the first of the group to realize Rook couldn’t swim/was afraid of water. She is SUPER protective of them whenever some, most likely Taash, tries to tease her about it or pull Rook towards water. She once blasted Taash like thirty feet with her Ice into a lake for trying to force Rook into the lake.

(My)Rook hates fish. Absolutely cannot stand the taste or smell but will never not get Neve some grilled fish from her favourite spot when she knows Neve is neck deep in work, and she knows she hasn’t eaten and won’t step away to get something. 

Rook’s parents LOVE Neve. They adore her so much that they call her more than their own daughter just to talk. 

Before they had gotten together, Rook had constantly flirted with Isabella whenever they were in Rivian with Taash. It pissed Neve off more when the Pirate would return the flirtation and purposely make it more explicit because she knew that Neve had a crush on Rook. [It was her way to push Neve to admit her feelings]

These are the first ones that I've come up with and will definitely add to! I hope you guys like them!!!

Rook x Neve WIP

I haven't written in a decade but Veilguard has me itching for more content, so I am back at it with some scene rewrites as practice.

Enjoy Rook being a bit of an awkward freak post waking up from stopping solas's ritual and Neve being amused by it.

Rook contemplated how long she could evade her new reality. Perhaps she could just keep her eyes closed. Maybe then she could will the ancient Elvhen god in her head into being just a preposterous dream. As nearly settles further into sleep, the throbbing pain in her head cut through any hope of avoiding the looming threats ahead of her.

She opens her eyes slowly, the soft candlelight nearly blinding her as she tries to make sense of her surroundings. Every movement she makes to orient herself seems to reveal a new blinding pain. Hoisting herself up with all of her remaining strength, she settles herself against the bed frame to find some grasp on reality.

Where the fuck am I? The room itself was unlike anywhere she had ever been before. It was elvhen, and ancient, but nothing like the ruins she had visited in the past. The near pristine conditions seemed impossible. It seemed to be an infirmary. Across the room her eyes settled on a dwarf's sleeping silhouette.

Varric, He's alive. Solas will pay for this. Rook makes a doomed attempted to heave herself from the bed, but her body has other plans. The resounding pain makes her acutely aware of the injuries she recieved from the Dread wolf and his ritual. Quickly falling back towards the bed, she relents, hoping it's not just her and the half-dead rogue here. Wherever here is. Almost as is answering a prayer, the door is quickly thrust open, more light filling the room.

"Rook! Look who's awake." Turning towards the voice, she believes maybe for once her prayers have been answered. Neve. Rook had feared the worst when they were seperated bringing down the staues. Seeing her alive and seemingly well was a relief. Her presence was a welcome gift, and how remarkably beautiful the detective managed to still look was not lost on the young Watcher. "I've been searching the place for lyrium potions, I didn't mean to intrude." Neve searches a table near the doorway to no avail. She turns to greet Rook with a warm smile despite her fruitless search. She cannot help but admire the detective's nearly statuesque form against the dim lighting.

"You could never." Rook firmly states as she meets the other womans gaze. " Besides I'm thrilled to see another friendly face around here, especially yours." Neve chuckles and takes a few small steps toward her, before the Watcher is forced to look away. "Speaking of where is here exactly? It feels... Odd?"

"Yeah, be careful when you go outside, it's a long way down." She stops walking before another crate to search before continuing. "The Eluvian led us into something. And it's in the fade.Because thats where we need to be right now - the dream world."

"Oh, of course," Trying to shift her weight to look out the door, the mage winces in pain indicating she's moved too far. Resigning to needing a bit of help, she laughs painfully "I need a healing potion so I can get looking around. Happen to find any in your search?"

"Not a one, somehow." Neve sighs as she walks closer before settling at her side, and dropping her scavenged items on the side table. "However there was no shortage of lyrium." She reaches out a hand toward Rook before hesitating. "May I?"

"May you what?" Rook says uneasily as she stares at Neve's beautifully lithe hands. Her heart quickens at the thought of being at the mercy of the woman before her.

"Heal you, what else?" She chuckles.

"Strangle me," The watcher says with unwavering certainty.

"I would never ask so politely. Now relax so i can see what I'm doing please. Lean forward." Neve rests her hand on the other womans shoulder and gently guides her closer, as Rook angles her head to give her access. As she inspects the leftover bruising, Rook begins to feel a heat creeping onto her face from the closeness. Neve brings her second hand up and brushes the womans long curls out of her view. The feeling of her cold finger tips grazing her neck forces a gasp from the womans lips, letting a quiet whimper follow.

"My apologies, I'll be softer" Neve croons as her hand begins to glow. Rook doesn't correct her about the cause of the sound. The cool crackle of her magic and sensation of her fingertips ar. She allows herself to relax fully into her touch, as the mage moves her hand along the lacerations going down her back. Rook feels the other woman slide her free hand further up her shoulder, and cannot stop herself from leaning in until its nearly around her neck.

Neve lets a small laugh fall from her lips, "I said I wouldn't strangle you Rook. Not unless you ask nicely."

"I've never been a fan of being polite," Rook sighs dramatically, trying her best to regain some sense of composure as she moves away from the mage. "Oh," She mutters, as she reaches a hand to touch her newly healed body. "Well now, I think you fixed a knot that had been there since the War of Banners."

"What can I say? I'm a woman of many talents," Neve says while continuing her scavenging in the side table. Rook continues to admire her, watching the hands who's phantom touch she can still feel dancing on the back of her neck

"Well, Thank you. I look forward to seeing exactly how talented you are. I ought to get looking around," She says while confidently pulling herself to her feet. She slowly makes her way towards to door while her focus remains fixed on the woman before her.

"Well, it can't hurt now. In theory." Neve turns toward Rook once again before leaning effortlessly against the table, a crooked grin flashing across her face. "We should talk about our next move soon. Find harding when your ready. There's a table in the central area out here, I'll meet you both there"

"See you soon then," It took everything Rook had to turn around and walk away. All she could hope was that Neve was watching her leave with that gorgeous crooked smile.

one of the things i love about the neve romance is that rook never pushes. they don’t coerce, they don’t make arguments as to why they should be together, they don’t do anything weird.

the only thing rook does is just. be there. not just physically, but emotionally. rook is rock solid both for neve herself and for the people she cares about. sure, rook flirts, but it’s never pushy. it’s never a corny pick-up line when neve clearly isn’t doing okay. it’s playful when neve is receptive to it and emotionally supportive when she needs it. it clearly shows that it’s not just physical.

and in the lock-in scene, the only thing that rook really does is care. neve tries to push them away, fails miserably, and is met with nothing but care from rook—rook who is always there in some way. who always tries to be there in some way. and that’s all it takes, really.

What is the others reaction? Who thinks it first? Asha: Neve thought it first, but didn't say it because she knows she shouldn't, that romance is trouble and this would complicate things between them. But in the end Neve was also the one saying it first (in her Neve way), and Asha reacted by throwing herself at the Detective right away. Yaryna: Yaryna said it first, and Emmrich was surprised but also happy about it. I imagine he returned it right away and then they made out on the desk *cough* But Emmrich definitely thought it first but felt he couldn't say it, because how could she possibly feel the same right? 13: What Songs do you associate with them? (Gosh I haven't thought about that at all!) Asha: Whatever it takes from Hazbin Hotel seems very fitting for them Yaryna: Maybe at all cost from the movie Wish
