Happy Twin Peaks to all who celebrate!
This is my Wonderful x Strange Gift for @whoslaurapalmer.
This is sort of a mix of some of your requests, I hope that’s ok. I just really wanted some moments of unseen joy for our Laura, despite everything.
Thanks as always to @countdowntotwinpeaks for putting this together all these years. It truly means a lot to me to have participated and shared this strange and wonderful show in this way.
<3 Tati

listen; i may be a laura/donna shipper till the day i die, BUT---the dynamic between laura/ronette is still endlessly fascinating to me and i can't help but be drawn them as a ship as well. the connection those two had was undeniable, i can't imagine a scenario where ronette DOESN'T have the fattest crush ever on laura. and losing her that night in the train car ruined her mentally. from the nightmare ronette has in the hospital, we're shown just how traumatizing it was to her to witness laura's murder right in front of her, listening to her scream, unable to move to stop BOB/leland from stabbing her. she was barely alive when she finally escaped and was taken for medical attention. she most likely feels survivors guilt, why couldn't it have been her? laura didn't deserve any of this. even worse, it's mentioned a few times in laura's diary that she also was interested in ronette, but didn't act on it since she was already involved with bobby and james. two girls torn apart by tragedy, unable to act on their feelings due to the selfish nature of a disgusting, abusive man.

Ronette Pulaski walking the railroad tracks
In a series filled with haunting scenes, the long, slow shot of Ronette might be the most unforgettable. Between Badalamenti’s score and the blank look on Phoebe Augustine’s face, it underscores just how much trauma she and Laura really experienced — and it’s devastating.

Vecna’s Four Victims / BOB’s Four Victims
Hello!! I found yet another Twin Peaks parallel so I’m gonna talk about it.
So Vecna has four victims in the show, similar to how BOB has four victims in TP. For both cases, these aren’t their only victims, but they do focus on these four.
For Vecna it’s Chrissy, Fred, Patrick and Max. For BOB it’s Teresa, Laura, Ronette and Maddy.
For both of them, they kill three but then only come close to killing another. Ronette and Max both narrowly escape being completely killed and end up in comas.

Furthermore, both BOB and Vecna’s victims end up trapped in red spaces; BOB’s victims end up in the Red Room and Vecna’s victims end up in his red mind lair.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Admittedly, there aren’t that many other direct parallels between both sets of victims, although I did make a post going in detail about the parallels between Chrissy and Laura, which I believe are deliberate.
However, there is a similarity with all of the victims being teenagers, all of which do things which the killer deem “bad.” Both killers aim to essentially absorb their victims.

(sorry for the reblog ren, correct me if I'm wrong)
Content warning for: spoilers of The Secret History of Twin Peaks, The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer, csa, suicide mentions
In the case of Josie, it's even worse, just like you said.
Both Cooper and Josie are survivors of csa and were forced to do sexual favours to adults when they were younger because they didn't have any other choice at the time.
Now, the reason why Dale reacts the way he does with Josie but not with Laura/Ronette/Theresa/Audrey/(in the case of Dale) the murdered gay boys from the Club Y case is because Josie got something Cooper could never get: a stable, loving, romantic relationship. Which is what Josie has with Harry (regardless of what Josie hid to Harry).
I'm mentioning Audrey, Laura, Ronette, Teresa and the Club Y boys because they were all rape victims, and in the case of Laura, Ronette, Teresa and the Club Y boys: sex workers. Dale empathises a lot with them and heavily projects onto Laura and the Club Y boys because they were victims of csa who were also part of a queer community like him, or at least attempted to.
It's really nasty how he investigates on Josie privately as well as constantly telling Harry how awful she was before and after her death, as if he was trying to tell Harry that he's (Cooper) better than Josie when Cooper had his own set of faults and problems like Josie. Even when Harry was having suicidal thoughts he was bringing her faults up.
Almost as if Cooper is trying to remind himself he's not as bad as Josie, when we all know that's not the truth. But Harry, just like he did with Josie, never knew the real Cooper and not only because of the lodge. In a way Cooper is also similar to Josie in that case because they're afraid of being left behind and alienated if somebody finds out about their past. Cooper is ashamed of it so he uses it onto Josie to feel better about himself which is absolutely horrifying. Yes, he also dislikes Josie because she raped Laura Palmer (twice) and got away with it.
But the main reason why he constantly argues against Josie and does not empathize with her is because she's as troubled as him, but she could get something he could never get in his life and that he constantly craves and asks for in his book: someone who loves him beyond his faults and problems.
If only season two writing wasn't as racist to Josie as it was...
cw: mentions of attempted cocsa
Dale Cooper's big flaw isn’t his desire to save Laura- he’s reacting to her asking him to save her. It’s what makes him a good person.
I’d say what Coop's actual biggest and most ugly flaw in the series is how he treats people who remind him of himself. Bobby and Josie in particular. He’s outright cruel to Bobby/Josie's memory in a way we really do not see from him with other characters.
When Coop was a child he had a neighbor named Marie, she was older than him and living her own Laura similar trauma off screen. Her sexual interest in him was based around his smallness and inability to fight her off- something he was able to ping even as a kid, though he walks away from a possible attempted sexual assault very unaware of what happened.
Marie dies of what is probably suicide when they’re older and Cooper is haunted by it for the rest of his life. She’s like his mother, a troubled woman he wasn’t able to save. And even though there’s no way teenage Cooper could have saved either of them that doesn’t alleviate his guilt.
Specifically he says himself, after Marie's death that he feels guilty because he didn’t love her, like that could have saved her.
So when Harry says to Bobby in the pilot “You didn’t love her anyway.”
He is lashing out at himself but he’s also lashing out at a teenage boy who is experiencing one of the most traumatic events in his life. Bobby is going to remember every bit of that day, including this absolute total stranger looking him in the eye and blaming him for not saving Laura. It’s. Fucking awful.
