MAR-A-LAGO, FL — In a stunning departure from his trademark hyperbole, former President Donald Trump unveiled his 2024 campaign's new slogan Wednesday, promising supporters he would "Make America Great Again... Or At Least Less Awful," marking what political analysts are calling "a revolutionary approach to strategic defeatism." Speaking to a crowd of somewhat enthusiastic supporters at his Mar-a-Lago resort, Trump explained his groundbreaking pivot to mediocrity. "Nobody knows less awful like I know less awful, folks. We're going to lower expectations to levels nobody's ever seen before, maybe ever in history," Trump declared as confused supporters attempted to chant "MALAT" (Make America Less Awful Today) with varying degrees of success. The former president's new campaign strategy represents a stark departure from his previous promises of "American carnage" to "American slight improvement," with merchandise vendors outside the rally hurriedly modifying MAGA hats to read "MALA" using what appeared to be correction fluid and markers. Campaign manager Brad Parscale Jr. Jr., hired after the previous 12 campaign managers resigned, praised the innovative approach. "By setting the bar so low it's practically a tripping hazard, we're guaranteeing success," he explained while adjusting a campaign poster that read 'Trump 2024: Slightly Better Than Whatever This Is.' "It's like limbo, but for national aspirations." The campaign's new policy platform reflects this commitment to achievable mediocrity. Trump promised to make gas prices "only somewhat painful" and pledged to reduce inflation to "just regular bad." His border security plan aims to make the southern border "as secure as a moderately protective motorcycle helmet," while his healthcare reform promises "coverage almost as good as Canada's worst day." Dr. Eleanor Whitman, a political science professor at Harvard University, called the strategy "breathtakingly adequate." "We're witnessing the first presidential campaign in history to explicitly promise voters that things won't get much worse," she noted while updating her lecture slides on "The Evolution of Political Promises: From Hope to Cope." The announcement has sent shockwaves through the political establishment, with rival campaigns scrambling to adjust their messaging. The Biden campaign is reportedly workshopping the slogan "America: Could Be Worse," while Florida Governor Ron DeSantis promised supporters he would "maintain current levels of awfulness" if elected. Trump supporters at the rally expressed measured enthusiasm for the new direction. "It's just so realistic, you know?" said Mary Hawkins, 52, wearing a freshly modified "Make America Less Awful" hat. "Last time he promised we'd be tired of winning, but now he's promising we'll be tired of being slightly less miserable. That's growth." The campaign website, TrumpLoweringTheBar2024.com, featured a new line of merchandise including shirts emblazoned with shrugging emojis and bumper stickers reading "Trump 2024: Somewhat Better Than Nothing." The site crashed briefly Wednesday evening due to what campaign officials described as "moderately heavy traffic, but nothing too impressive." As the rally concluded, Trump made one final pitch to his supporters: "Together, we'll make America so moderately okay, your head will spin. Not too much spinning, just a gentle rotation. Nobody's going to get dizzy, folks. That I can tell you." At press time, social media was ablaze with the trending hashtags #SlightlyLessAwful and #LoweredExpectations2024, while political pundits debated whether the strategy of promising minimal improvement could revolutionize modern campaigning or simply reflect the current state of American politics.

Disney Called “Woke” for Latest Pride Collection
Posted on February 13, 2024 by Jess Colopy
https://insidethemagic.net/2024/02/disney-pride-tissues-kleenex-backlash-jc1/
The Walt Disney Company is under fire once again for its support of the LGBTQIA+ community. This time, right-wing social media users are outraged about rainbow Mickey Mouse tissue packaging, a collaboration with Kleenex for Pride Month.
The last few years were ripe with culture wars against Disney. Of course, conservatives were never happy about Pride Month merchandise at the Disney parks and on shopDisney. But the real battle began in 2022 when former Disney CEO Bob Chapek denounced Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’s Parental Rights in Education Act (“Don’t Say Gay”). The former Republican presidential candidate passed legislation to dissolve a special governing district held by Walt Disney World Resort, leading to a months-long legal battle.
Despite the outrage, Disney continued to support the LGBTQIA+ community. They renamed “Rainbow Mickey” merchandise to Disney Pride, marking the first time the company officially acknowledged the collection’s connection to Pride Month. Alongside donating to LGBTQIA+ non-profit organizations throughout June, they announced that they would release Disney Pride merchandise year-round.
Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar, and Marvel have consciously worked toward LGBTQIA+ representation in films and Disney+ shows. The animated show Baymax! featured a transgender man offering advice on period products, and Strange World (2022) starred a gay teenager.
Kleenex Thailand teamed up with Disney for a rainbow tissue collection last June. The initial advertisement and release garnered little attention online until this month when conservative mega-influencer Libs of TikTok noticed it:
Disney partnered with Kleenex to go all in on LGBTQ propaganda. @Kleenex designed special LGBTQ pride tissue packaging with @Disney themed designs.
"You can’t even blow your nose without having LGBTQ propaganda shoved in your face.
Imagine being so oppressed and marginalized…"

The account shared two anonymously submitted photos of mini-tissue packs with rainbow Mickeys and a shortened version of this television ad:
Libs of TikTok neglected to mention that the Disney x Kleenex Pride collection was exclusively available in Thailand, nor did the account note the video’s age. Commenters were outraged, with many again accusing the House of Mouse of turning “woke.”

“We should start making a list of companies that didn’t go woke and conservatives can start supporting them over woke companies,” said @RedWave_Press. “Companies need conservatives or they will lose millions of dollars.”

“Disney was once a great American Icon, now it is nothing but a woke propaganda machine,” @Old_SchoolEddie wrote.
— Old School Eddie (@Old_SchoolEddie) February 4, 2024
“Oh how Disney has fallen.. Watching the total decay and self inflicted destruction of a once iconic brand that represented families no longer exists,” @LucyRiles replied. “It’s sad and so very disappointing.”

At Moms for Liberty summit 'Mama Bears' declare spiritual war on the 'Radical Left’, Annika Brockschmidt, Religion Dispatches:
Given that Moms for Liberty is a very young group on the conservative circuit it’s remarkable that both Trump and DeSantis, in addition to other presidential hopefuls, made the pilgrimage to Philadelphia to laud Moms for Liberty’s message—and, in Nikki Haley’s case, to portray herself as one of them. None of the candidates appears to have been at all concerned by the fact that Moms for Liberty was just designated a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. According to the report by the SPLC, the group’s main goals are to “fuel rightwing hysteria and to make the world a less comfortable or safe place for certain students—primarily those who are Black, LGBTQ or who come from LGBTQ families.”
In fact, this designation sparked numerous jokes and gripes about being “the face of domestic terrorism” during the summit—eerily similar to CPAC’s announcement and display of a “we are all domestic terrorists” banner at its 2022 meeting in Dallas. There was a great deal of talk of revolution, sacrifice, and of war in general for a supposedly “apolitical” event in Philadelphia. During the event I repeatedly heard the refrain that “not every mom for liberty is conservative”—despite the backdrop, which included a Turning Point USA booth with stickers of a milk carton with “liberal tears” and “pro-life” pins, and a merchandise corner with T-shirts like “Joe and the Hoe gotta go” and the Palin-esque “Mamma Bear—don’t mess with my cubs!”
The summit took place under heavy police presence—something the organizers made sure to exploit. “Thank the police officers for protecting us, ok? Every single one,” a staffer advised eagerly as we were escorted by a throng of police officers out of the Museum of the American Revolution, where Wallbuilders president Tim Barton had just butchered American history in a speech punctuated by his plea that “we have to make America great again!” In between speeches, speakers would hold prayers to bless the “hotel staff, those who serve our food, who make our beds,” and praise to God for not letting “hotel staff” be swayed by the protesters outside.
The vibe was strange, eerie, and excited—a cross between a White supremacist sorority meeting; a capitalist love-fest with deep bonding over hatred for “the Left,” the LGBTQ+ community, and anti-racism efforts (all dressed up as expressions of love for their children); and a pentecostal revival with some distinct NAR overtones. “Our children belong to the Lord, not the government,” declared Patriot Mobile spokeswoman Leigh Wambsganss. “This is not a political war, it is a spiritual war!

“A nation that isn't broken, but simply unfinished.” :: May 25, 2023
ROBERT B. HUBBELL
MAY 25, 2023
Eighteen days after the January 6th attack, twenty-two-year-old Amanda Gorman stood on the recently embattled steps of the Capitol. The eyes of the world upon her. In a moment of grace and healing, the young poet addressed the nation’s fresh wounds and uncertain future. She said:
We've braved the belly of the beast,
we've learned that quiet isn't always peace.
And the norms and notions of what just is
isn't always justice.
And yet the dawn is ours before we knew it,
somehow we do it. Somehow we've weathered
and witnessed a nation that isn't broken, but simply unfinished.
[¶]
Let the globe, if nothing else, say this is true:
that even as we grieved, we grew;
that even as we hurt, we hoped;
that even as we tired, we tried;
that we'll forever be tied together victorious,
not because we will never again know defeat
but because we will never again sow division.
The full text of Amanda Gorman’s poem is here: The Hill We Climb by Amanda Gorman (poetry.com). A video of Amanda reciting her poem at the Inauguration is here: 'The Hill We Climb' - YouTube. The poem is now available in book form at your local independent bookstore (which can be located at IndieBound.org).
Two days before Ron DeSantis announced his bid for the presidency, a school parent in Miami-Dade, Florida, filed a one-page form alleging that “The Hill We Climb” is “not educational" and contains "hate messages." It is doubtful that the complaining parent read the poem. The parent incorrectly claimed that The Hill We Climb was written by Oprah Winfrey. But under the fascist scheme established by Ron DeSantis, the ignorant and spiteful allegation of a single parent is sufficient to banish a book to the purgatory of endless “reviews” by the “Florida Thought Police.”
That is the Florida that Ron DeSantis has created. And that is the America he seeks to create. DeSantis’s campaign merchandise touts that he will “Make America Florida.” Most Americans do not want their states to resemble the hellish landscape that DeSantis envisions for Florida—or America.
It takes effort to recall the damage and division that DeSantis has sowed in Florida. Fortunately, the Washington Post reminded us of that carnage on the day of his announcement. See Washington Post, 10 things to know about Ron DeSantis as he joins 2024 presidential race. (This article is accessible to everyone.)
Democracy Docket has published a review of DeSantis’s anti-democratic voter legislation. See Democracy Docket, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ Record on Voting Rights.
DeSantis’s abortion policies are so extreme that he tries to avoid discussing abortion when appearing before supporters. See NYTimes, DeSantis Avoids Talk of Abortion Ban on the Trail. (“On the trail, his remarks about the ban are usually limited to a single line in his roughly 45-minute stump speech.”)
DeSantis’s campaign launch on Twitter with Elon Musk was so bad that it became a joke and internet meme before the event ended. The “live” event on Twitter was “audio only” in an age when video dominates. Even then, the audio repeatedly dropped and froze, causing Musk to bail on the original event and open a “new” Twitter space to host the event. #DeSaster went viral before Musk mercifully ended the debacle. See Forbes, ‘#DeSaster’: DeSantis Roasted Over Botched Twitter Campaign Launch—By Trump, Biden And Others.
Worse, a DeSantis supporter published an op-ed in the NYTimes entitled, Not Dead Yet. As fans of Monty Python immediately recognized, the reference to “Not Dead Yet” is an unfortunate allusion to someone who has a very short life expectancy (measured in minutes). If that is the best his supporters can say in defense of DeSantis, his campaign will be short-lived.
While DeSantis invites mockery and derision in nearly everything he does, his candidacy is no laughing matter. He has denied tens of millions of Floridians fundamental human rights, including reproductive liberty, the right to vote in free and fair elections, freedom of expression and thought, safety from gun violence, and freedom from government-sponsored discrimination.
Let’s hope that DeSantis’s disastrous campaign weakens both DeSantis and Trump. While Democrats cannot rely on Republicans to defeat themselves, we should recognize the leading GOP candidates are wounded, desperate, and unlikeable. Democrats have their own challenges, as is the case with every presidential candidate. Let’s not dwell on our challenges; instead, tell our fellow Americans the truth about our opponents—including their inability (and lack of desire) to connect with their fellow citizens on a human level.

Trump emerges first US ex-president to face criminal charges
A New York grand jury on Thursday indicted Donald Trump over hush money payments made to a porn star during his 2016 campaign, making him the first former US president to face criminal charges. The historic indictment of the 76-year-old Republican – who denies all wrongdoing in connection with the payments made ahead of the election that sent him to the White House – is certain to upend the current presidential race in which Trump hopes to regain office. And it will forever mark the legacy of the former leader, who survived two impeachments and kept prosecutors at bay over everything from the US Capitol riot to missing classified files — only to land in court over a sex scandal involving Stormy Daniels, a 44-year-old adult movie actress. Trump’s lawyer Susan Necheles told AFP she expects he will be arraigned on Tuesday next week. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office confirmed that it had contacted Trump’s lawyers Thursday evening to “coordinate his surrender” in New York — with the felony charges against him to be revealed at that point. Trump slammed the indictment as “political persecution and election interference,” raging against prosecutors and his Democratic opponents and vowing that it would backfire on his successor, President Joe Biden. Surrendering for arraignment over what CNN has reported could be as many as 30 counts related to business fraud would normally involve being fingerprinted and photographed, potentially even handcuffed. In the Republican camp, Trump’s allies and sons denounced what they say is a vendetta aimed at derailing his 2024 campaign — while his expected challenger for the party nomination, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, slammed the indictment as “un-American.” Kevin McCarthy, the top Republican in the House of Representatives, said the indictment had “irreparably damaged” the country. Trump’s former vice president and possible 2024 challenger Mike Pence called it an “outrage” that would only “further serve to divide” the United States. But the top Democrat Adam Schiff — lead prosecutor of Trump’s first impeachment in 2019 — called it “a sobering and unprecedented development.” “The indictment and arrest of a former president is unique throughout all of American history,” Schiff said in a statement. “But so too is the unlawful conduct for which Trump has been charged.” Daniels welcomed the development with her characteristic aplomb. “I have so many messages coming in that I can’t respond…also don’t want to spill my champagne,” she tweeted while also plugging her #TeamStormy merchandise. – Possible protests – On March 18, Trump had declared he expected to be arrested within days over the payment to Daniels — who received $130,000 weeks before the election that brought Trump to power, to stop her from going public about a tryst she claims they had a decade earlier. In predicting his indictment, Trump also issued a call for demonstrations and dark warnings that it could lead to “potential death & destruction” that “could be catastrophic for our Country.” His statement set New York on edge for possible protests but the prospect of a quick indictment appeared to recede as the grand jury panel continued to hear witnesses — until Thursday. A media scrum quickly gathered outside the district attorney’s office, along with a handful of anti-Trump protesters — but the situation was calm overall. Trump’s ex-lawyer Michael Cohen, who has testified before the grand jury, told Congress in 2019 that he made the payment to Daniels on Trump’s behalf and was later reimbursed. Prosecutors argued the checks were not properly registered, and the jury was asked to consider if there had been a cover-up, intended to benefit Trump’s campaign by burying the scandal. The New York investigation is the first to reach a decision on charges out of three major probes into the former president. Trump also faces felony investigations in Georgia relating to the 2020 election and in Washington over the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol by the ex-president’s supporters, who hoped to keep him in office after his election loss to Joe Biden. – Republican frontrunner – Trump, who is seen to be the frontrunner to be the Republican nominee in the 2024 election, has branded all of the investigations political persecution. The impact of an indictment on his election chances is unpredictable, with critics and adversaries alike voicing concerns about the legal merits of the hush money case. Detractors worry that if Trump were cleared, it could make it easier to dismiss as a “witch hunt” any future indictment in arguably more serious affairs — such as Trump’s efforts to overturn Georgia’s election results. The Manhattan charges will also likely juice turnout among Trump’s base, boosting his chances in the party primary. Trump staged his first presidential campaign rally in Texas on Saturday, addressing several thousand supporters — far fewer than the 15,000 he had expected — in the city of Waco, Texas. “The innocence of people makes no difference whatsoever to these radical left maniacs,” he told the fired-up crowd. Tulsi Gabbard Explained
-SIGH-
Tulsi Gabbard is a representative from Honolulu. The only thing you need to know about her is that she has zero chance at winning the nomination. Like, you could scour the multiverse for alternate realities where Gabbard wins and still find nothing.
The reason why is her coziness with Bashar al-Assad, dictator of Syria. Assad has been fighting a civil war for five years now, and he’s committed numerous atrocities, including the use of weapons of mass destruction against his own people.
Gabbard has met with Assad and even parrots his propaganda.
So, yeah.
Gabbard has had the worse campaign roll-out of any candidate so far. It was so bad, you could argue she’s not competent to be President just from that alone.
She’s been planning to run for President for a while now and her staff has been working on the materials for the campaign. Merchandise, posters, logos, a website, etc.
So she sets a date for her announcement and has her staff working late hours to polish it up. They finalize the logo, make sure the website is all slick, and nail down the slogan.
And then she cancels.
They shelve everything and she sets another start date, so again her staff scrambles to put the polish on the campaign. Logo, website, slogan, etc.
Again, she cancels.
A while later, she goes on CNN and finally makes the announcement: she’s running for President, and she does it live on national tv.
Without telling anyone. She ad-libbed her presidential campaign announcement!
So now her staff has to cancel their weekend plans to scramble to put polish on things. At that point, it probably occurred to them they were polishing a turd.
Gabbard was indecisive and impulsive. Reckless yet overly cautious. And oh yeah, her campaign manager’s already quit.
The only other noteworthy thing about Gabbard is her age: she is a millennial. This generation has been up and coming in recent years and 2018 was a breakthrough year for them.
Josh Hawley of Missouri, elected in 2018, is the first millennial Senator.
Ron DeSantis of Florida, also elected in 2018, is the first millennial governor of any state.
The number of millennial Representatives tripled after the 2018 House elections.
These people are the first of hundreds.
What’s interesting about the 2020 democratic field of candidates is that it is the first one of either party to feature prominent millennial candidates.
Gabbard is one; the other is Pete Buttigieg, whom I’ll be getting to later.
Obviously this is a sign of the growing influence of the millennial generation, though neither Gabbard nor Buttigieg have much chance of becoming president.
No, we’ll have to wait until at least 2024 before we can talk about a serious millennial candidate for President.
