2k follower gift: Casa de Tedeji 22 - a cc lot by moonwoodhollow It’s finally time for one of my favourite buildings I have done in a while; Casa de Tedeji 22! Casa de Tedeji 22 is a mostly unfurnished residential lot that is best placed in Ciudad Enamorada. This lot was inspired by the film Roma, and I hope you'll find it as charming as I do! This building consists of three different houses, and you could either have just one family living there, or you could fill all three houses with families and watch the drama unfold. Either way, I hope you have fun with this lot & thank you again, for 2k followers!
More screenshots, info + download link under the cut!
Building background
As someone who's never been to Mexico, I still wanted to create a somewhat realistic building for Ciudad Enamorada that perfectly fits into the world.
The house that I first thought of, was the 'main' house in which most of the plot of the film Roma by Alfonso Cuarón took place. Even though I watched the film some time ago I often kept thinking back to the house and the architecture of Mexico City in the 70s. So I looked up the filming locations and found out that the house actually still exists, you can read about more here and here if you're interested.
While building I obviously changed a few things from the original structure, because I did not want to recreate the house entirely, as I didn't have too many inside-the-house photos, so I went to googlemaps and got inspired by the neighbouring houses and that's how this building or these three buildings came to be!
So what do you get?
Case de Tedeji 22 is a 30x20 residential build best placed in Ciudad Enamorada on the Mansión de la Pasión lot. It probably could also work on other lots, but it looks best on that one. The lot is unfurnished, meaning I only added the outdoor decor but kept the houses completely unfurnished except for flooring and wallpaper + a floorplan for each house.
house one: 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, a fenced-in garden
house two: 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a balcony, courtyard
house three: 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms (1 ensuite), rooftop space
If you own For Rent, you could change the lot type to residential rental, but obviously, even without that pack, you could play with up to 8 sims/three families on this lot.
Uses items from the following packs: I will update this, once I hop back into game, but I own almost all packs.
Download: Google Drive(195 MB) | Also up on the gallery: aeromantica (but you’ll need the cc files from the Drive folder!)
Is the CC included? Yes.
A BIG THANK YOU to all the CC-creators, without their creations, I wouldn’t have been able to build this!
TOU: Please don’t claim as your own or put behind paywalls etc. If you find any issues (wrong/missing files, etc.) please let me know + tag me if you’ll use the building, I’d love to see it in your games.
If you like what I do and want to show your appreciation, I have a ko-fi!

Happy Monday! I built a laundry cart. I'm installing new shelving in my hall closet where my current laundry cart lives, and it's not going to fit into the shelving in the way I desire; I found this narrower one on a stupidly good sale (something like 70% off) so picked it up for a song and put it together this morning. My building has an internal messageboard and I had great luck selling a mattress there so I'll list my old cart up there later today.
I did have to pull it apart and put it back together, but only once (I installed the rails backwards, which being fair to me they don't give much direction on in the instructions). Number of bleeding injuries: confined to one!
I listened to the latest episode of Across The Romaverse, an English-language podcast about Italian football team AS Roma. My poor ragazzi, they've had four coaches in less than twelve months; the latest, a "caretaker" coach who's worked for Roma before, has come out of retirement and is the oldest coach in Europe, in his seventies. I wanted to hear what the general sentiment about him was from people who pay more attention than I do, and it seems generally positive as long as they can get someone decent to take over next year. The lads won't be lifting any trophies this year but Roma fans are there for the passion and the drama, not the accolades.
[ID: A photograph of a black laundry cart with four "drawers"; two small drawers labeled "Towels" and "Smalls" and two taller drawers labeled "Others" and "Color". It's way taller than I expected, but it looks very nice and fashoinable.]

Propaganda
Anna Magnani (Rome Open City, Mamma Roma, The Rose Tattoo)—don't take my word for it, here are some of the things she was called during her career: "la lupa (the wolf) of Italian cinema," "passionate, fearless, and exciting," "the volcanic earth mother of all Italian cinema," "one of the most impressive actresses since Garbo," "Whenever Magnani laughs or cries (which is often), it's as if you've never seen anyone laugh or cry before: has laughter ever been so burstingly joyful or tears so shatteringly sad?" and maybe best of all, from Tennessee Williams, who wrote multiple roles specifically for her: "She is simply a rare being who seems to have about her a little lightning-shot cloud all her own...In a crowded room, she can sit perfectly motionless and silent and still you feel the atmospheric tension of her presence, its quiver and hum in the air like a live wire exposed, and a mood of Anna's is like the presence of royalty."
Nutan (Bandini, Anari, Seema)— In an era where plump and petite women were considered the height of beauty, Nutan was thin and gangly. While her beauty is obvious today, she was considered somewhat unusual throughout her acting career, which contains over 70 films. Contrary to the belief that female actresses careers ended after marriage, Nutan won four of her five Filmfare Awards after her marriage and the birth of her son. Nutan was known for her gorgeous, emotive brown eyes and her incredible singing voice.
This is round 3 of the tournament. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. Please reblog with further support of your beloved hot sexy vintage woman.
[additional propaganda submitted under the cut.]
Anna Magnani:
An icon of post-war neorealist italian cinema - an unbelievably good actress. Also, the first non-english speaking actress to win the Oscar for Best Actress (in 1956)!
realness!! amid the typical hollywood pristine glamour anna magnani stuck out as sexy in a really real, grounded way. so much so that even shallow 40s hollywood allowed her to come over from italy to be in some high profile movies. an icon
She smoked, she drank, she didn't give a f-. Her acting was described as explosive, with a lot of emotions and drama and they called her a she-wolf. Playwright Tennessee Williams became an admirer of her acting and wrote The Rose Tattoo (1955) specifically for her to star in, a role for which she received an Academy Award for Best Actress, becoming the first Italian – and first non-English speaking woman – to win an Oscar.

@takiki16 tags on my post are too good not to be shared! The context is wild shit that legit happened in IRL football ⚽ that I need the Ted Lasso fandom to be aware of, because it'd make for excellent fic material:
the MANAGERS #the PERSONAL DRAMA#I KNOW that ted lasso is not designed to be an actual realistic show #I KNOW that this whole thing did in fact begin as a way to soft trap Americans into watching the Prem #to the point that JOSE FUCKING MOURINHO ACTUALLY HAD A PART IN THE ORIGINAL NBC AD #I do NOT want to change the vibe of the show at all #(but like…a dramedy about the EPL that REALLY wanted to roast some fuckers would perhaps…NOT look like ted lasso #if they wanted to start with the managers it would just be two middle aged idiots with BOILING beef #who had to be physically restrained from throwing hands every other game and have personally destroyed each others’ marriages
Okay WHO would Roy have managerial beef with. I vote Arteta. Actually as @elizabear suggests, it's funnier if it's one sided
He would also instinctively dislike Rob Edwards of Luton because Jamie once said he's the hottest manager in the EPL. Roy's annoyed and he doesn't know why. (Rob Edwards is very hot)
For an example of managers throwing hands... the Tuchel/Conte handshake
In fact here's a whole compilation of managers throwing hands.
Thank you for bringing up Mourinho! This is his ad, btw. "What do you WANT Ted?" lives in my mind rent-free
youtube
After much soul-searching I've decided Roy likes Mou a lot among all the managers he's played for. YES, he is a total cunt BUT
he's really fucking funny about it. Like, really.
he's never met a referee he didn't have beef with but most of all Anthony Taylor (as a Roma fan I have to agree with him on that)
the entire 2005 Chelsea team would've died for him. I've said this before, but there can't be a Frank Lampard in TL if Roy plays the box-to-box midfielder role, so this quote about Mourinho walking into Lampard naked in the shower to give him a pep talk? That's Roy. To me.
I can't even pick a quote among all the shit he's said about all the managers he's played against, but I especially enjoy when he used to be a bitch about Pep and Pep was like "I don't know her." It was like a one-sided crush dating back from their Barca days
#if they wanted it to be about the players the literal sky is the limit. WHATEVER the writers room can come up with#it cannot come CLOSE to the batshit drama that real Sockckckckcer Playahs have amongst each other#also intricate rituals. NOT ENOUGH INTRICATE RITUALS#when Jamie scored that free kick after getting permission to be a prick Dani should have kissed him with tongue
Here's some homoeroticism:
#but TO COME BACK TO OP’S POINT ABOUT ACTUAL GAMEPLAY#I want to see Coach Roy get red carded and have to sit in the stands for the next game cursing and swearing
He'd get, like, 3 red cards a season MINIMUM. Mourinho who. Here's Klopp losing it a bit. Here's Pep being passive aggressive as fuck. Pochettino from 2 days ago. Also from last weekend: De Zerbi's "I don't like 80% of referees in England" he's so right for this.
Manager Roy would get himself red carded the week before Richmond play Chelsea away. Totally accidental. So he doesn't have to have a lil cry about it.
#I want to see what it would take to get Zoreaux sent off#and then they have to stick Bumbercatch in goal and it turns out he has some Hyper Specific Phobia about the situation#he manages to save the team but his coping mechanisms for dealing with Forcible Keeper Phobia make up the comedy B-plot of the episode#
I want CLUB RIVALRY. dunno where Richmond actually physically is but imagine if they had derbies#Ted has to be made to understand that no coach - for THIS game we will not stop till we see BLOOD#Richmond wins but bc they are playing away the home fans actively are tossing crap at them as they celebrate on the pitch#also the sprinklers come on and it’s a bus full of soaked greyhounds on the ride home
They're in West London! Maybe they just fucking hate Fulham. Or Brentford.
Actually, I've thought long and hard about Richmond's derby rivalries. Semi-canon sources say they have a bit of a West London rivalry with Brentford BUT to me it doesn't make much sense because Richmond are supposed to have been mid-table in the Prem for years, top-flight but mediocre. Brentford only made it to the Prem in 2021.
Actually, I've decided that Richmond kind of take the place of QPR for most of their history, except they didn't get relegated when QPR did. This is because 1) it'd be too many London-based clubs otherwise but, more importantly, 2) when Man City won their first title in 2012 with Agueeeeeero!!! that was against Richmond. It's funny, To Me.
Also you know Roy still fucking hates Newcastle from his Sunderland academy days. If his pundit career had lasted longer he'd be having top tier shithousery with Alan Shearer every week about it.
Anyway here's a whole youtube playlist about WILD derbies.
#ALSO BC SUAREZ IS COMING TO MIAMI - BITING INCIDENTS CAN THEY DO THAT
As an Italian I am legally obliged to SAY that if Suarez hadn't bitten Chiellini at the World Cup we would have gone past the group stage because Uruguay scored off a corner they won while Italy were all busy telling the ref that there was a fucking cannibal on the pitch. I don't forgive and I don't forget.
Anyway for context: cannibal Luis Suarez. He's a repeat offender. Someone at Richmond would think it was very funny
youtube
#once again sticking this footie post in the tag#ted lasso#FIC AUTHORS I HOPE THIS INSPIRES YOU#tumblr user taakiki16 you're SO valid for those tags I love them#sports#i'm sorry re roy & mourinho it's just true. roy in his prime playing days wouldn't have cared about the cuntery#as a manager he wouldn't be shit to his physio but as a player? sorry it wasn't a deal breaker. he likes mou more than ancelotti. to me#ted lasso meta#i mean. sort of lmao#long post#afc richmond#roy kent#various irl footie people#futbol

I'm thinking about the names of our protags.
Rafał/Rafal - "God will heal". An archangel, a patron of people associated with healing, sailors, runaways, wanderers. But also, a person with this name was chosen a patron saint of soldiers and the people kidnapped to Sibir. Polish Wikipedia article points to this name raising in popularity thanks to a book, "Znachor" by Dołęga-Mostowicz. And what's more, a Jolanta (the modern and more common name than Jolenta) also appears there and that naem rose in popularity as well. The name appears also in another book, "Popioły" by Żeromski. Both authours are associated with Young Poland/the interwar period, both were interested in social issues, criticism of the social stratosphere and wrote about selfless, desperate doctors working in an unjust, cruel system. The usage of pen names was also popular among authours in this period for various reasons. I also learnt about a novel for teens and young adults written by Domańska, where this name was given to an antagonist. Judging from the synopsis: the protagonist is a boy who wants to be a carver, but gets into err, situations, and has to leave his surroundings in the process. Firstly, it's his home village and later, a travelling circus. He ends up moving to study in Kraków (the previous capital of Poland). A clergyman and a scholar help him find shelter and give the means to explore his interest in art... The setting also happens to be the XV ce. Anyway, this literary period is something we like to come back to and reference in our post-modern media. Oczy's book reminded me of those short stories which were published to teach others about other people and/or to make them ponder, but I digress.
Oczy - "eyes". This name doesn't feel like a real name and I'm one of the people thinking it might be a way to conceal the real identity of a killer for hire. But then again, he lives in "country P" and not Poland or Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Or his carers wanted him to be unique, so who's to pass verdicts? This name probably sums up his whole character and ties the themes of Orb if you think about it.
Draka - this one's a bit tricky, but I choose to interprete it as "a quarrel" ("a drama" would be more of a modern slang, meaning-wise). While noun-derived names are not common among Poles, the articles about Polish Roma point to more variety in their naming traditions (czujczuj[.]pl, romowie[.]com, rodzice[.]pl; the first two are "own voices" websites, but the latter is a simple archive of names which I don't feel too comfortable to trust). Christian names and those derived from Latin or Greek seem to still prevail. Perhaps it is her name, but maybe it's a nickname given to her by her tribe thanks to her willingness to change or take up risks. Or perhaps the mangaka got inspiration from some other languages, where this name sounds similarly to "dragon."
#orb: on the movements of the earth#orb: on the movements of the earth spoilers#alternatively a clergyman and a scholar would be the best bet at getting help so i think the stories just share the theme#i also don't have any stats re: the names#i edited the last part when i noticed i misremembered stuff#sorry

Wake up babe new chart just dropped
If you can't tell, I tried to edit gay wine aunt to aroace wine aunt.
Roma gives cottagecore lesbian so bad. Like he just wants to live in his little village, with his scary wife, become the de facto parent of all the kids of the town and run his little smuggling ring.
Honestly half of them could have been placed in male thot enemy of the state so I didn't put any of them.
I was debating about putting Marshall in furrycon attendee and hot topic employee but then I realised that he mostly survives on drama.

Just a Judge Claude Frollo Headcanon Post
This is strictly about the Walt Disney adaptation of THoND and their own version of Frollo.
1) He's done the nasty.
Frollo thinks he's better than everyone. As he says in Hellfire: "Of my virtue I am justly proud." The concept of virtue or virginity was a big, big, BIG deal in medieval Christian Europe - we all know that.
Buuuuuut here's the thing. We also know that extramarital sex still happened on the regular. We ALSO also know that social norms and rules were a little less stringent for men, than they were for women.
Know what else we know, about Frollo specifically? He literally killed a woman in the prologue and said it was No Big Deal. "I am guiltless. She ran, I pursued." Sounds like classic abuser talk to me.
Frollo strikes me as the kind of man who has engaged in carnal sin, has indulged his lustful desires, one way or another. He is a huge fucking prude pious man, so perhaps it has only happened on a few rare occasions in his long life; most definitely it came with feelings of extreme guilt and confusion, as indoctrinated religious as he is. But I suspect Frollo has made use of a brothel once or twice. I think it's even more likely that he has sexually harassed or assaulted someone in his time - he just believes it somehow doesn't count when it's him doing the deed.
2) Maybe 'Snowball' is a stupid nicname some lowly, smartass guard gave to Frollo's horse one day, before meeting an untimely demise.
The guard didn't survive but, unfortunately for Frollo, the name did.
3) Lead Poisoning Was A Thing.
One of my favourite #history fun facts is that members of the upper classes, nobility and royalty, frequently used pewter chalices, plates, etc., which would slowly leach lead into their bloodstream over time.
Frollo is clearly in decent health/rich enough to keep it that way, and lives to an uncommonly old age. But with his advanced years comes even higher exposure to lead over his lifetime.
Symptoms of lead poisoning include but are not limited to: headaches, fatigue, irritability, difficulty sleeping, and loss of sex drive. Sounds like someone we know!
By the time Frollo meets Esmeralda, his brain is already half-gone. His rages have become more frequent and intense, his nights often sleepless, his libido low or almost non-existent. So when he finally meets her and feels her teasing him, it stirs his desires for the first time in years. His poisoned brain hyperfixates on her. He hallucinates about her, obsesses over her - and finally, he burns half the city to the ground, just to get his hands on her.
And then there's fucking THIS:
This is not a mentally stable man.
4) Frollo secretly relishes in attending public events like the Festival of Fools.
Ok, hear me out: Frollo is kind of a drama queen at heart and lives to be seen. Especially in any situation where he can show off how much Better™ he is than everybody else.
"I am a public official - I must go!" Oh really?? There isn't like a single other person in government, or the entirety of the Parisian royal court, who could take your place? You just HAVE to be the one to take time out of your busy schedule for this petty peasant festival? Sounds a little sus, babe.
And also, apparently he's just totally unbothered by the presence of all the Roma at the Feast of Fools? Like we already know he's developed a bit of a fixation on the Roma, beyond period-typical xenophobia - like to the point that he brings in a military captain, because he feels that the presence of the Roma necessitates a freaking military intervention (!?). But - BUT! - apparently it's 100% fine for Romani performers to be at the festival, and he makes absolutely NO effort to have any of them arrested, besides Esmeralda? (Is this maybe some of that good ol' fashion lead poisoned brain rot here?) This is more of a rant, or maybe another point in favour of my lead poisoning theory, but still.
5) Cataracts!! 👁️👄👁️
Like I said, Frollo has lived to an uncommonly old age. He's just one of the grotesquely wealthy lucky ones, I guess. But with great age comes great eye health problems like CATARACTS! Which, fun fact, will naturally occur in ALL humans as we age. So, yeah, he's got cataracts forming. That's just facts.
I mean how else would he not have fucking noticed Quasimodo on the stage you guys.
6) Not a cat person.
I weirdly feel like this one might be controversial amongst fans, and I'm totally open to folks disagreeing on this point. But like, speaking as a person who has a cat - in my experience, cats usually prefer the company of people who understand and respect their boundaries.
Boundaries.
And I just think Frollo is, well, not the best at that.
... Yeah.
But also, in fairness, there was some suspicion/superstition around cats being evil in medieval Europe. So maybe that would have been enough for Frollo to not enjoy the company of cats.
What are your Hunchback/Frollo headcanons?

There's a movie coming out next month in my country that is about a teacher (white European) teaching a young Romani delinquent how to read, which sounds like your typical social drama tbh, but then I looked up an interview with the filmmaker and he says "When I was researching for the film, I learned the Roma live off the grid and they can't fathom putting their children to school" huh! what! Roma don't live off the grid, Romani people are members of the same society everyone else lives in, we don't make up an inner society full of illiterate criminals. It is true that schooling is an issue with Romani people due to our social standing and economic struggles but you can't generalize a population of 15 million people that way. Then he says "but some associations do take care of them" by schooling them. Well guess what! I'm in one such association and that's such a poor way of looking at it. When my friend and I go volunteering (and that goes for everyone else in my association), we work with the parents of the kids because those parents do have the best interest of their children at heart, otherwise they wouldn't keep in touch with the association. It's not the association that takes care of the kids, it's the parents who take care of their children's education by relying on outside help when needed. Don't erase those parents. Later on, he says "I didn't want to make a political movie or a pro-migrant movie, so I chose to focus on Romani people because Roma are Europeans. If I had focused on Syrian people or on African people, it would have been much different. I wanted to talk about education, not integration." Except that migration politics have a lot to do with the situation of Roma in my country and the Romani actor he cast is a Romanian immigrant. This doesn't make sense. And at the end, he says "I didn't want to make a pro-Romani or an anti-Romani movie" why should people take position in favour or against the mere existence of a group of people? This is so tone deaf. I can't believe that movie is coming out, that man looks so unserious and his research seems so poor.

The Fabelmens (2023) - Review
Director: Steven Spielberg
Runtime: 2h 31 mins
Drama
A young and aspiring filmmaker tries to navigate his childhood and chase his dreams, while his family begins to fall apart around him.
Over the past few years acclaimed Directors have reflected on their lives. Alfonso Cuarón took us on a thought-provoking journey through 1970’s Mexico with Roma, and more recently Kenneth Brannagh put his showy direction aside and showed us a more vulnerable part of his filmmaking in Belfast. Now it seems Steven Spielberg wants to tell his story, navigating his own childhood and reflecting on the relationship between his Mother and Father.
The first scene of the film sees fictional Sammy Fabelman on his first trip to the cinema with his parents, ultimately scared but also blown away by The Greatest Show on Earth. He then follows it by trying to film his own train crashes in order to control the fear, awakening an early connection to filmmaking. Watching that ‘wonder’ that young Sammy sees in these early scenes is intoxicating, seeing a love of cinema through the lens of a Director who is responsible for some of cinema’s most awe-inspiring moments is The Fabelmans’ most endearing quality.
Having said that though, The Fabelmans often wrestles more subjects than it can handle. The film is much more comfortable showing us the awe-inspiring filmmaking moments more so than anything else, and while the stories about depression, antisemitism and bullying are by no means brushed to one side, they merely dangle like loose threads at the bottom of the tapestry Spielberg is weaving.
This film is almost certain to be divisive, but as a love letter to cinema it still conjures some wonderfully crafted moments. The script sometimes dodges its harder subjects and the film may even verge on self-indulgence, but Spielberg remains the master of awe-inspiring cinema – showcasing some of his best techniques and reminding us why he’s sat at the top of Hollywood for so many years.

TV I Liked in 2024
Every year I reflect on the pop culture I enjoyed and put it in some sort of order.
2024 was a year of some great TV and plenty of “mid” TV (you know: perfectly serviceable/proficient, often with a great cast or significant A-Lister attached, but at the end of the day, not really doing much of anything except existing). I recognize that things hit differently for people (i.e. Shogun didn’t really transcend being just a handsome TV product for me beyond a couple excellent performances, although I see its cultural value), but I ultimately found a lot of what I watched to be mostly white noise (or is that TV static?). So the things that stood out shone all the brighter.
14. Echo (Disney+)
2024 may have been a (much needed) reset year for Marvel Studios, but its live-action television offerings are both solid. Echo spins off from Hawkeye by taking the title character back to her roots in Oklahoma as she grapples with her past traumas and Native heritage. Centering a deaf, female POC amputee, the show offers powerful representation, and despite some apparent behind-the-scenes retooling that compressed its initial episode order (mostly felt in occasional rushed stretches toward the end) it works quite well as a character piece and extension of the more “street-level” Marvel world.
13. Girls5eva: Season 3 (Netflix)
The too-short third (and sadly, now final) season of this resurrected comedic masterpiece (after its prior Peacock cancellation) finds the Girls on tour, in just about all the worst places you could imagine to try and mount a buzzy comeback. The goofball energy and mile-a-minute joke pace remain intact, producing a strong and fitting—if premature—send-off.
12. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power: Season 2 (Amazon Prime)
The second season of Amazon’s LOTR without LOTR series probably won’t convert any skeptics, as it is nowhere near as compelling as the first outing overall, sadly. An intriguing premiere gives way to a kind of listless, murky middle (the episode lengths are unnecessarily lengthy); that said, the final 2 installments really stick the landing. It remains one of the most utterly gorgeous productions on television.
11. Conan O’Brien Must Go: Season 1 (Max)
Conan O’Brien’s welcome return to TV screens this year may only have lasted an initial 4 episodes, but he hasn’t missed a beat as his zany and irreverent brand of humor – plus genuine curiosity – pay comedic dividends in this new travel show. Not terribly different in form than his prior Conan Without Borders travel specials, Must Go does involve a conceit of Conan surprising local fans in the countries he visits which adds another level of local flavor and (relative) authenticity to the proceedings.
10. The Diplomat: Season 2 (Netflix)
Coming off a stellar cliffhanger, the second season of this terrific Keri Russell-starrer offers plenty more political intrigue and, well, diplomacy. The show manages to walk a fine line of making a somewhat dry subject engaging and compelling without tipping over into melodrama or implausibility, thanks to both its smart scripts and strong performances.
9. Agatha All Along (Disney+)
Essentially a spin-off sequel to WandaVision, Agatha All Along isn’t quite as singular but still offers a lot of fun genre riffs and compelling performances as Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha Harkness and her makeshift coven journey down the Witches’ Road.
8. Disclaimer* (AppleTV+)
There is no shortage of limited series based on novels kicking around various streaming services these days, and most of them are content to be the equivalent of breezy beach reads with handsome casts and heightened melodrama. Leave it to writer/director Alfonso Cuarón (Children of Men, Gravity, Roma) to simultaneously elevate and comment on the genre with his adaptation of Reneé Knight’s novel of the same. What initially appears to be another cleanly appointed domestic drama full of titillating buried secrets gradually reveals itself to be much more, touching on perspective, revisionism, power dynamics, trust and trauma. Cuaron’s use of long shots remains unparalleled and his employ of varied filmmaking techniques throughout the series instills appropriate tension and intrigue before all the dominoes fall.
7. The Bear: Season 3 (Hulu)
While not The Bear’s strongest outing thus far (perhaps inevitable in that it’s essentially half a season with no real resolution to any arcs), Season 3 still manages to display artistry and humanism that stand apart from the rest of the television landscape. High points include the Malickian visual poetry of the premiere and the Tina-centric flashback “Napkins,” and when those are among your apexes it seems unreasonable to complain about anything.
6. True Detective: Night Country (HBO)
I didn’t follow HBO’s anthology series past its original incarnation, but an infusion of fresh creative talent with Issa López taking the reins make Night Country worth a visit. This tale finds Jodie Foster and Kali Reis as policewomen forming an uneasy alliance to investigate a bewildering (supernatural?) occurrence at an Alaskan research station and its possible ties to the murder of a native female activist. The efficient 6-part series doesn’t overstay its welcome and offers plenty of indelibly haunting images and dream logic appropriate to a setting without daylight.
5. What We Do In The Shadows: Season 6 (FX)
For its final outing, WWDITS continues its unimpeachable streak as one of the most consistently hilarious and outrageous comedies on TV. An appropriately meta and self-referential series finale cements its status as an all-timer.
4. Bad Monkey: Season 1 (AppleTV+)
I’ve never read any Carl Hiaasen so I can’t say whether or not this adaptation of his novel is faithful. I can say I found Bill Lawrence’s production to be an enjoyably dark comedic adventure buoyed by another of his signature great casts, led by Vince Vaughn in his most winning performance in years. Reminiscent of something from Elmore Leonard in the best way.
3. Shrinking: Season 2 (AppleTV+)
I quite liked the first season of Shrinking — it made my list last year — but Season 2 is a gift: warm, engaging and deeply moving. Harrison Ford remains an unexpected comic delight, Jessica Williams continues to be a great hang and co-creator Brett Goldstein shines in a powerful new role, but it is Jason Segal who provides the heartbeat of the show as his strong comedic chops deftly make way for a deep well of dramatic vulnerability.
2. A Man On The Inside: Season 1 (Netflix)
I shouldn’t have doubted a new collaboration between The Good Place creator Michael Schur and star Ted Danson, but initial descriptions of A Man On The Inside (widower goes undercover at a retirement community to try and solve a theft) sounded a little too gimmicky for my taste. I’m so glad I decided to give it a shot anyway because I was treated to one of the most beautifully humane and touching shows of the year. Danson excels in another standout performance and the supporting cast, especially the seniors, are uniformly terrific.
1. Ripley (Netflix)
Steven Zaillian’s adaptation of The Talented Mr. Ripley may initially sound redundant, what with the highly-regarded Anthony Minghella film in existence, yet it quickly establishes its own hypnotic rhythms. My favorite series of the year features stunningly composed black and white cinematography that both alienates and enthralls. There’s a queasy thrill in watching Andrew Scott’s opportunistic sociopath commit his crimes; you almost root for him to succeed, yet does that make you accomplice to deceit, theft & murder? The Caravaggio references are icing on the cake. While a limited series for now, there is hope that perhaps Zaillian and Scott might return for future adaptations of other Ripley novels, a prospect I am fully in favor of.

Rosemary Clooney (White Christmas)—Rosemary!!! Her singing voice is incredible, she looks stunning in everything she wears, she has this quiet gravitas on screen that I haven’t seen anywhere else!! She deserves to be known as a lot more than George Clooney’s Aunt (if anything, I think of him as Rosemary Clooney’s nephew who also went into the business). Also when she got older she had this amazing sexy raspy voice (which sadly was due to smoking a lot but doesn’t take away from the fact that it’s very very sexy)
This is round 2 of the tournament.
Rosemary:
Rosemary Clooney made very few movies, and built her career mostly as a singer--however, anyone who has ever seen her in White Christmas understands that this was Hollywood's loss, because she exudes glamour and charm and does a wonderful job acting it as well. She's gorgeous, she has a beautiful voice, she has one of those faces that the screen just loves, and she is, frankly, hot as hell.
An absolutely amazing singer and so stunning. Her performance in that black dress in White Christmas just takes my breath away every time. She's also George Clooney's aunt.
She was a very cool woman, who had a very hard life. She had severe mental health struggles throughout her life and left the stage for quite a while, but fought hard to make her career comeback later in life with a little timely help from good friend and frequent collaborator Bing Crosby. She also duetted with Marlene Dietrich early in her career
youtube
Okay so obviously she's more a singer than an actress, but she was still one of the best musical actresses of the era! They just didn't know what to do with her. She really wasn't a dancer at all, so you'll see most of the numbers in White Christmas she's got a convenient prop to sweep around. However, this ~weakness brought about a love story for the ages! Dante Di Paulo (you may know him as the mustachioed townie rival to the Pontipees in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers) was hired to teach her to dance and they fell in love over rehearsals. Separated by filming schedules, Rosemary ended up marrying José Ferrer and breaking Dante's heart, but 20 years and two divorces from José later they met in traffic. Not about to miss her second chance, she honked her horn and yelled her phone number at him (talk about carpe diem). He moved in a couple of months later but they finally made it official in 1997 because "our grandchildren want us to get married". They were utterly devoted to each other and he was very much a Wife Guy.
when she. when she. 'love you didnt do right by me' from white christmas-
She was very funny and very civic-minded, she campaigned with RFK during his presidential run. She had a very close bond with her nephew (that George Clooney yes), he even had her songs on the playlist when he proposed to his wife! She didn't enjoy singing this song from White Christmas, as it wasn't quite in her range, but she's incredibly powerful and undoubtedly very hot in this scene (fun fact, oscar winner George Chakiris is one of her dancers here, before his big break!) -
