Chapter 8: Navigating Emotion Confusion

Summary:

Rafael and Nick try to deal with their emotional turmoil after finding out that Sonny and Amanda found out about their relationship. Liv tries her best to help. Rafael's return to the ADA's office starts off dramatically.

I tend not to care about ships that bore me, like barisi bores me, so does Rollisi to a certain extent, but since Amanda is a train wreck I do tend to like it a little more.

Would you say that Rollins and Amaro's relationship in late S15 and S16 was a friends with benefits relationship? I mean, if he wanted more with her, he would have never left NY. I think the two were aware that it was never gonna be long-term, and were just living in the moment due to both having personal troubles at the time. She didn't seem upset that he left compared to when Carisi left NYPD. If she was upset he left the job, imagine how she would have been if he left the state👀!?!

I would say we never saw anything beyond that on screen, but that I - and I did ship them very much at the time - always thought there was the potential for it to become something more. They both had a lot of other things going on and they weren’t necessarily what each other needed, but they definitely cared about each other a lot and things could have gone in that direction if he hadn’t left / if DW didn’t hate love.

If Danny hadn’t left, Jesse would’ve been Nick’s for sure, and everything would be different (my eternal disappointment every time Amanda said “it’s not Nick’s”)!

As shitty of a father and man Jim Rollins was (and we all know he was), you can't really deny what he said to be true. That the guys before Carisi were all losers and Rollins never gave a nice guy a chance cause she thinks he's too good for her.

Srry but I'm not really an Amaro fan. I do however admit he was a good example for her of who she shouldn't end up with.

I mean yeah, he was right. But the most fucked up thing about what he said? He's the reason she chased after losers and deadbeat.

I'll also admit that my teenage self shipped the hell out of Rollaro and I won't apologize for it. Honestly, I feel like it was necessary for the both of them; because it was also a (another) prime explain of who Nick shouldn't end up with. In those days, the people that they were? Amanda was toxic for him and Nick was toxic for her - it was never gonna work back then and two of my favorite people ended up exactly where they were supposed to be.

AMANDA ROLLINS WEEK 2021: APRIL 11 - 17!

After you all voted, we finally have the official line-up for the Amanda Rollins Week. Each day will have a specific theme, one exclusively for fanfiction writers and one for other content creators, but of course, you can mix up if you want to!

The last day has only one theme because it’s the one that had most votes in both polls, so we’re chosing to have one day with this theme alone.

It wasn't planned, it just came to be. Rollaro were only meant to be a casual thing that would lead to Rollisi to be an actual real relationship

A common trope when you think about it compared to other shows: the 1st ship with one half of the couple is the icebreaker that many fans, but ends up not working out the way fans have hoped. Then the 2nd ship with that same person from the previous ship happens and fans start to ship it; though there are many who are reluctant due to the 1st ship being their OTP. But eventually the 2nd ship progresses more and even more fans start to ship it and it eventually becoming/seemly endgame.

Examples include:

Linstead → Upstead (Chicago PD)

Dawsey → Brettsey (Chicago Fire)

CoNic → CoBillie (The Resident)

I haven't watched The Rookie yet to see if Chenford falls under this as well with their previous relationships, but I've heard there were always sexual tensions between them since season 1.

Bughead → Barchie would be included on the list I guess, but I heard that the four main ships became endgame so....

Honestly even if Danny never left - Rollaro probably never would have went anywhere. They were both just too toxic for each other (and besides Amanda and Nick both ended up exactly where they were meant to be).

And honestly, I probably need to rewatch again (I probably will before the shows come back) but Erin and Jay were a tad bit toxic and unhealthy for each other too. Like Erin was never gonna be happy if she stayed in Chicago (I headcanon that she's thriving in New York when the FBI) and Jay seemed (before this ooc shit this past season) like a Chicago born and bred kind of guy.

Though I do think Dawsey could have lasted if things had been kind of different but we'll never know that one I guess.

I'll be completely honest, Lucy and Chris and Tim and Ashley felt like they came out of nowhere and were never going to be a thing longterm. Chenford definitely had tension since season one (and tbh their road to canon is probably one of my favorites out of any tv couple just because of how it was handled)
