Proposed new national monuments (Washington Post)
President Biden will probably designate a historic military site in Colorado as a new national monument in the coming weeks, according to two people familiar with the matter.
Biden has yet to create a national monument since taking office. The new designation would apply to Colorado's Camp Hale, a World War II-era military training ground along the Continental Divide in the Rocky Mountains, and the Tenmile Range, which have attracted visitors for their stunning landscapes and provide habitat for wildlife including elk, bears, otters, lynxes and migratory songbirds.
The official designation of the Camp Hale-Continental Divide National Monument could come as soon as this month, although no final decisions have been made, according to one person familiar with the matter, who like others spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss private deliberations.
Here are three other proposed national monuments, although advocates are pushing for many more:
In March, Interior Secretary Deb Haaland visited Castner Range in El Paso, as The Climate 202 reported at the time. The site encompasses about 7,000 acres that the Army used for weapons training and testing until the 1970s. While Castner Range is off-limits to the public because of unexploded ordnance, it provides habitat for wildlife including bobcats, mountain lions, coyotes, badgers, sandpipers and roadrunners.
Haaland last week visited a site in southern Nevada known as Avi Kwa Ame,or Spirit Mountain, to discuss how to protect the area with tribal and local community leaders. Several Native American nations consider the site sacred, including the Fort Mojave Indian Tribe and the Bishop Paiute Tribe. “It's an area that has been occupied since time immemorial, and it's home to so many important cultural resources for all of the Indigenous people in this region,” said Taylor Patterson, executive director of the Native Voters Alliance Nevada and a Bishop Paiute tribal member.
In an Aug. 31 letter, Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) urged Biden to protect Plum Island [on Long Islandf] from development, whether by designating it as a national monument or a national heritage area. The island is home to several endangered and vulnerable species, such as the piping plover and roseate tern, as well as two locations on the National Register of Historic Places.

A Luxury Resort In Colorado
New Post has been published on http://www.infolibrary.net/a-luxury-resort-in-colorado/
A Luxury Resort In Colorado
Located in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, The Lodge at Breckenridge is the ultimate mountain escape. The property sits atop a large forested cliff (10,200 feet above sea level) and offers pristine panoramic views of the Rocky Mountains, Boreas Pass, ski slopes, and the Tenmile Range.
The Lodge is quaint, rustic, and authentic Colorado. It’s approximately 2 hours from Denver International Airport where you can rent a car or schedule an airport pick up through various shuttle companies available in Colorado. There’s also an airport in Colorado Springs although the length of the trip to Breckenridge is the same (2 hours).
One of the great aspects about the Lodge is that there are only 45 rooms surrounded by charming Colorado forest and spectacular unobstructed views.
It’s quiet during the summer and the weather is comfortable.
Only a light sweater is needed during the afternoon, however, the night temperatures do drop off. The staff is friendly and very attentive since it is a smaller lodge.
You can check in at all hours of the night if you happen to arrive late; the front desk is always staffed. If you happen to arrive at night, prepare for that wow factor in the morning because the views are incredible.
This luxury resort is a great venue for a leisure getaway during the summer, a rustic wedding, a company retreat, and of course, a winter trip where you can partake in many activities. There are plenty of outdoor activities available year round like bike rentals, trolley rides, and even roller blading.
There’s also a shuttle which will bus you to the slopes during the winter months and to charming and historic downtown Breckenridge. Many festivals and events do take place during the summer, including weddings, so be sure to ask for the town’s agenda while making your reservations.
The Lodge At Breckenridge
The Arrival
If you’re driving in, the roads are well kept, even during the winter. The town of Breckenridge, Colorado clears the roads of snow so there is no problem whatsoever driving to the resort during the winter months. If you happen to arrive at night, the roads are dark and winding but extremely safe if you’re following all precautions.
The road leading up to the Lodge
Plenty of brochures of all the different activities available in Breckenridge
From skiing to snowmobile rentals, to dog sledding, hiking, zip lining, and white water rafting, there’s something for everyone throughout the year.
There are plenty of things to do in Breckenridge, just take your pick!
We strongly recommend renting a car, but it’s not entirely necessary. If you’re just looking to relax, there is also Meridian Spa on site with outdoor hot tubs available as well.
Guest services available 24-hours
Multiple common areas with fireplaces and coffee
Coffee, hot chocolate, and purified water available
Wraparound porches
Front entrance to the Spa
The Mountain View Suite
The Mountain View Suite is absolutely incredible. The views are incomparable and the rustic setting complete with a fireplace and miniature kitchen makes this Lodge one of the best in the area for winter getaways and skiing.
There’s no air conditioning in the Lodge (it’s not really necessary) since temperatures really never get above the 60s during the summer months.
There are heaters and a fireplace available for the cold winters. A fan and windows that open are available if you want to keep your room temperature cooler during the summer, although leaving your windows open at night will significantly cool down your room.
Available in your room are all your standard amenities:
Iron with an ironing board
Blow dryer
Cable television
Small fridge and microwave
Sink
Coffee and tea
Bath soaps
Water bottles
Dining
Breakfast and dinner are available on the property. Breakfast is buffet style and complimentary.
It includes your standard eggs, bacon, coffee, waffles, fruit, cereal, sausage, and juice bar, and more — and it tastes a lot better than your average hotel breakfast buffets. Don’t skip breakfast while visiting this lodge.
For lunch, take the shuttle, Uber, or your rental to downtown Breckenridge where there are plenty of restaurants, site seeing, free museums, coffee shops, and craft beer. The atmosphere is very relaxed so comfortable cloths and tennis shoes are your best bet.
A full-service bar opens for dinner and happy hour is from 5-9 pm daily. Craft drinks, plenty of wine options, delicious appetizers, scrumptious entrees, decadent desserts, and spectacular views are all available at Traverse Restaurant & Bar.
Weddings usually take place on this deck. When there isn’t a wedding going on, it’s a nice post dinner lounge area where you can feel the cool breeze of the Rockies while enjoying a hot beverage, or something with a little more kick in it from the bar.
The Blood Mary’s are excellent as well as the Blackberry old fashioned.
Two hot tubs overlooking the mountains
Shuttle available to take you into town
A shuttle is available throughout the day and will take you to the ski slopes during the winter months as well as downtown Breckenridge.
vimeo
Check out Main Street Trolley that just reopened, too. The free downtown trolley runs every 10 minutes from the Breckenridge Transit Station, down Main Street to the Ice Rink, and even stops at City Market.
If you’re renting a car, there are plenty of places to park downtown although you will need to pay $2 for two hours.
Overall, the Lodge at Breckenridge is a great resort if you’re searching for an authentic Colorado experience.

Welcome to the first episode of 2019's adventure series from the Kitsune Siberian Forest Cats YouTube channel! In this snowy March escapade, we explore the recreation path in Frisco, Colorado, to check out "Silent Bob" the new avalanche chute that was caused by the bomb cyclone and a series of intense winter storms. We found a warm, sunny spring day to walk on the snowy trail through trees and wonderful meowntain views! Join the Cool Cat Crew in the Rocky Mountains on this cute, family friendly vlog. And, until next time, Adventure On, Cool Cats! The new avalanche chute, named "Silent Bob" due to its close proximity to J-chute (get it? Jay and Silent Bob!) is located on Peak One, part of the Tenmile Mountain Range that spans from Frisco, to Breckenridge, Colorado in Summit County, west of Denver. It is one of many avalanches and chutes created by the storms in late winter / early spring in Colorado. It sure has been a crazy season of snow and blizzards in 2018-2019! These storms have caused a lot of chaos with road closures, power outages, and even closures of hiking trails due to the extreme avalanche danger, getting a 5 out of 5 rating on the North American Public Avalanche Danger Rating scale. ------------------------------------------------------- Kitsune T-shirts and other swag https://ift.tt/2CWyg7j Instagram https://ift.tt/2yspajt Facebook https://ift.tt/2xJgPny Tumblr https://ift.tt/2AYCUAl Twitter https://twitter.com/KitsuneSFC ------------------------------------------------------- Send Kitsune Cool stuff: -Email- [email protected] -Physical Mail- J-me Pritchett Kitsune PO BOX 5132 Dillon, CO 80435 ------------------------------------------------------- Kitsune is the Japanese word for fox. I’m partial to a white Christmas, but living in Houston I certainly don’t get it here. 😂 So that means I have to head to where the snow ❄️ is like Breckenridge! Loved visiting Breckinridge. Such a friendly and heartwarming ski town. I enjoy visiting cities during the holiday season that embrace the spirit of Christmas and Breckinridge is one of them. Breckenridge is a Colorado town at the base of the Rocky Mountains’ Tenmile Range. It's known for its ski resort, year-round alpine activities and Gold Rush history. The former mining town’s Main Street, with colorfully painted buildings from the 1880s and '90s housing shops, galleries and restaurants makes it a popular place to visit. With ski towns you have your skiing, but I personally prefer snowboarding 🏂 You also have other winter activities to take part in such as ice skating ⛸ sledding, snow mobile, etc. Now if that’s not your style there is always après-ski. Some other options for a winter experience would be Lake Tahoe, Vail, and Park City. Keep in mind of the elevation. My mom learned the hard way that high elevation is not her friend 😰 Are you heading somewhere cold this year for the holidays? If you would like to book a trip contact me! 📷: All pictures are my own unless otherwise stated. #stephanietravelnta #travelagent #breckenridge #colorado #brecklife #skitown #winter #snow #houstontravelagent #traveladvisor #travelconcierge #travel #travelmore #instatravel #igtravel #instatravelling #travelingram #jetsettering #fodorsonthego #bbctravel #lonelyplanet #luxurytravel #luxurytraveladvisor #usa #coloradolive #tlpicks #iamatraveler #passionpassport #forbestravelguide #mydomainetravels (at Breckenridge, Colorado) https://www.instagram.com/p/BqmJFN3BzXG/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=qxxhnrfofdtj

Breckenridge is a Colorado town at the base of the Rocky Mountains' Tenmile Range. It's known for its ski resorts, year-round mountain-related activities, and Gold Rush history. The Victorian core of this former mining town is preserved as the Breckenridge National Historic District, running mostly along Main Street, with colorfully painted buildings from the 1880s and '90s housing shops, galleries, and restaurants. The town population was 4,896 as of 2016 based on the United States Census. The town also has many part-time residents, as many people have vacation homes in the area. Breckenridge is known for the events that the town holds yearly. Every January, the International Snow Sculpture Championships are held in Breckenridge, where sculptors from around the world compete to create works of art from twenty-ton blocks of snow. Since winter of 2008-2009, the Freeway Terrain Park on Peak 8 hosts the Winter Dew Tour in December, featuring the biggest names in extreme snowboarding and skiing. Other events held on the mountain include the annual Imperial Challenge, Breck's version of a triathlon, The 5 Peaks, North America's longest ski mountaineering race, the Breck Ascent Series, with races up the mountain, as well as other competitions, festivals, and the annual Spring Fever month-long celebration at the end of the ski season with live concerts, festivities and other celebrations around spring skiing. During the summer, Breckenridge is host to the National Repertory Orchestra and the Breckenridge Music Institute. Concerts are scheduled three to four nights a week. Full orchestra, ensembles, and contemporary artists perform at the Riverwalk Center, downtown near the Blue River. Several art fairs come to Breckenridge every summer, attracting many local artists and buyers. The town also puts on an annual Fourth of July celebration, featuring a parade in the morning and fireworks at night. In September each year since 1981, the Breckenridge Festival of film is held. Loads of fun, right?
So, whether you’re a lifelong resident, recently relocated or only here for the season, anything can happen at any time! Don’t be afraid to branch out of your comfort zone, try something new! The staff is just as excited as you are to see how your character unfolds and blossoms within. Happy writings! - Breckenridge Staff
