Andrea Gets a Divorce    [trailer]

A policewoman wants a divorce and city job promotion but after hitting her drunk husband with her car in an accidental collision, she flees the scene, committing a hit-and-run.

There are some traces of the typical dark, Austrian humour, that Hader tends to specialise in. But this is mainly a serious, tragic drama.

If you know what to expect, it's certainly worth a watch. Not at least because of Birgit Minichmayr.

Side note, I think this is the first time I heard Robert Stadlober speak Austrian.

SINGLES GOING SATURDAY #8!-  The Radio Field- The Version (featuring Robert Stadlober- self released)

I learned about this German band last year on their Simple EP that found 4 songs of sprightly, effervescent  pop. Apparently that was all Lars (formerly of Subterfuge) but on this new single and going forward he’s got a band with Christoph, Mark and Philipp joining in for the fun (with Robert Stadlober on backing vocals). 

Anyway, “The Version” is a terrific little pop number with, yes, plenty of horns (courtesy of Max von Einem) and a sturdy,  miniature beat. Lars’ vocals are strong and confident and if these guys could do a whole album with songs this good, which I think they can, then I’ll be more than sold (as will many others).

Give a listen and see all the fuss is about.

Against many odds, Bertolt Brecht's "The Threepenny Opera" becomes a phenomenal success. The film industry picks up the scent and seeks to make the master direct a film version. Brecht though refuses to play by their rules.

An excuberant production, that switches seamlessly between the events related to the making the movie and scenes from the movie itself, all of it presented by an excellent ensemble. The sets and the production design also have to mentioned.

As for the story, it's remarkable how many topics are still highly relevant today. Be it the friction between writers and the movie industry, and of course, especially how unfettered capitalism exploits the working class.
