Since these questions were sent at about the same time, I'm going to answer them together in the same post.
There's actually a great book that came out in 2020 about the geopolitical rivalry between Saudi Arabia and Iran that really heated up following the Islamic Revolution in Iran that overthrew the Shah in 1979 in favor of the theocracy of the Ayatollah Khomeini: Black Wave: Saudi Arabia, Iran, and the Forty-Year Rivalry That Unraveled Culture, Religion, and Collective Memory in the Middle East by Kim Ghattas (BOOK | KINDLE | AUDIO). It's one of the better books that I've read in the past few years and the ideal book to pick up if you're interested in the two most powerful Islamic nations of the Middle East.
Another good book that focuses on both countries is Andrew Scott Cooper's 2012 book The Oil Kings: How the U.S., Iran, and Saudi Arabia Changed the Balance of Power in the Middle East (BOOK | KINDLE | AUDIO).
SAUDI ARABIA (I've read A LOT of books about Saudi Arabia over the past few years, so I could go on-and-on, but I'll try to limit myself to just a few recommendations!) •The Kingdom: Arabia and the House of Sa'ud by Robert Lacey (BOOK | AUDIO) •Inside the Kingdom: Kings, Clerics, Modernists, Terrorists, and the Struggle for Saudi Arabia by Robert Lacey (BOOK | KINDLE | AUDIO) •Ibn Saud: The Desert Warrior Who Created the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia by Barbara Bray and Michael Darlow (BOOK | KINDLE | AUDIO) •The Siege of Mecca: The 1979 Uprising at Islam's Holiest Shrine by Yaroslav Trofimov (BOOK | KINDLE | AUDIO) •Saudi Arabia in the Nineteenth Century by R. Bayly Winder •King Faisal of Saudi Arabia: Personality, Faith and Times by Alexei Vassiliev (BOOK | KINDLE) •Kings and Presidents: Saudi Arabia and the United States Since FDR by Bruce Riedel (BOOK | KINDLE)
IRAN •The Fall of Heaven: The Pahlavis and the Final Days of Imperial Iran by Andrew Scott Cooper (BOOK | KINDLE | AUDIO) •America and Iran: A History, 1720 to the Present by John Ghazvinian (BOOK | KINDLE | AUDIO) •The Iran-Iraq War by Pierre Razoux (BOOK | KINDLE) •A History of Iran: Empire of the Mind by Michael Axworthy (BOOK | KINDLE | AUDIO) •Iran: A Modern History by Abbas Amanat (BOOK | KINDLE | AUDIO) •All the Shah's Men: An American Coup and the Roots of Middle East Terror by Stephen Kinzer (BOOK | KINDLE) •Guests of the Ayatollah: The Iran Hostage Crisis: The First Battle in America's War with Militant Islam by Mark Bowden (BOOK | KINDLE | AUDIO) •The Twilight War: The Secret History of America's Thirty-Year Conflict with Iran by David Crist (BOOK | KINDLE | AUDIO)
I'll stop there for now. I could list scores of books because I'm fascinated by the history of both countries, their place in the world, and their relations with one another and with the United States. I probably read a lot more about Saudi Arabia and Iran -- and their leaders -- than most people would expect. So I have even more suggestions if you need them...but hopefully this is a good start!

OOR 2001 - Nr 8 - Rammstein interview
Rammstein <Germans have a very good sense of humor>
Rammstein: those are boring, surly men, who take themselves too seriously and even are perhaps a little 'wrong'. You would think. But with the release of the third album Mutter, singer Till Lindemann and drummer Christoph Schneider prove that Germans do have a sense of humor. "Only... we don't laugh."
by Robert Heeg
Actually, Rammstein's entire career is a joke. Or at least a bizarre twist of fate. Born and raised in the GDR, Lindemann, Schneider, keyboardist Flake Lorenz, bassist Oliver Riedel and guitarists Paul Landers and Richard Kruspe despite state censorship managed to develop into stubborn punks with their own vision on hard music. Only in '93, long after the fall of the wall, did they convert their ideas into the total concept Rammstein. In addition to hard industrial metal with a gothic touch, this concept also includes a well-oiled show in which sweaty male bodies and stunts with fire play a leading role. Despite international aspirations, the mother tongue was retained. That did not stop the albums Herzeleid ('95) and Sehnsucht ('97) from being very successful. Even in the US, entire tribes sing along at the top of their lungs during the performances. It must be a great victory for the six 'Ossies'. Can you therefore blame Rammstein for using images from the propaganda film Triumph of the Will, by Hitler's court filmmaker Leni Riefenstahl, in a video clip.
How does Mutter differ most from its two predecessors?
Till: "We used more acoustic instruments and recorded a string orchestra 'live' for the first time. We also worked on the mix for a very long time. We even broke off a mix because the album started to sound too much like Sehnsucht. We were looking for a more modern sound"
The official biography says that no one sounds like Rammstein, but I definitely recognize that rigid sound of Die Krupps...
Christoph: "Yes, of course. And there are more bands with which we have something in common. In that bio they are probably referring to the combination of show and German-language singing."
Till: "Especially that German thing, yes. Most acts sing in English, which sounds much rounder than German. So we do offer something new internationally."
The lyrics on Mutter seem less harsh, slightly more personal. Is there a thematic shift?
Till: "You should interpret them the way you want. Use your imagination. I do believe that they are less abstract than before, they have become clearer stories. However, we try to stick to our well-known style."
If you used to express yourself in macho rhetoric such as: 'Wollt ihr das Bett in Flammen sehen', you now cry for Mutter. Back to the womb?
Christoph: "Mutter is simply the word that fits the mood of the record, you don't have to look for any special meaning behind it. Inspiration can really come from anywhere: personal experiences, magazines, a book, a good film... It makes It doesn't matter. It can also happen if you happen to get your finger stuck in the electrical socket. Anything."
Is this a democratic band or are there members who have more influence?
Christoph: "It is quite a democratic whole. And that does not always make it easy when you are in a hurry. Fortunately, there is also a producer [Jacob Hellner] who makes decisions every now and then. It is also a lot more productive that we now sometimes work in smaller teams. If there are six of us, there is always someone who disagrees with something."
Till: "It is good to learn that you occasionally have to defer to the majority opinion. After three or four weeks it often turns out that the consensus was the basis for the right decision. It is essential that you share everything as a band: equal rights, equal duties. It has been my experience that when someone feels underexposed in a band, they usually leave."
Would Rammstein be over then?
Christoph: "It's like cutting off an arm. We would continue, but it would be very different."
In interviews the band members sometimes come across as a bit rigid. You rarely allow yourself to be lured out of your tent.
Christoph: "That depends on how someone responds to us and our texts. Every journalist does that in his own way, and we respond to that. But I know that we are considered difficult. Whether it is photographers, cover designers or people at the record company, they experience us as difficult. That is because we have a very strong opinion about how things should sound and look. We don't compromise well."
This also applies to the language...
Till: "Yes, why should we? Words are free."
And you were also right, in America people sang along with complete lyrics.
Christoph: "Well, at least they tried, haha. In any case, we had a good time with their attempts. They looked like teenagers going to their first pop concert, not having fully understood the lyrics, but still trying to sing along. Very amusing."
You guys have something special with America. Did that start when David Lynch used two of your songs for his film Lost Highway?
Christoph: "That was our first contact with America. It made us a bit known and gave us the opportunity to perform there. However, it was very difficult to make the right contacts and bring Sehnsucht there. We only managed that in '98."
American record companies are traditionally skeptical of European acts. Especially when they stubbornly continue to sing in their native language.
Till: "If you hang around somewhere in the middle, that is certainly true, yes. But once you are successful, you can do just about anything there. The most idiosyncratic acts are often the most successful."
Idiosyncrasy is also often poorly understood. For example, you are often associated with the extreme right. You went one step further by using fragments of Leni Riefenstahl films in the video for the Depeche Mode cover Stripped.
Christoph: "We have never really understood that prejudice. In our opinion, it is not demonstrable. In interviews we have often said that we have nothing to do with it. We are busy discovering our own German music and creating our own German band , and we have mentioned many things that have to do with our culture. We are getting quite tired of the allegations. People simply have an opinion about us, no matter how often we contradict those prejudices through the media. The only thing we can do now all that's left is to just continue making music. If you follow us a bit, you know that we have nothing to do with the right. For the people who still need an explanation, we have included the song Links 234 on the album. Listen to that."
Is your sense of humor and sarcasm underestimated?
Till: "Oh, you either understand us or you don't. There is no in between. You either love us or you hate us. The fans understand our intentions."
Christoph: "The problem is that people are always presented with something that is ready-made. But as soon as they have to interpret something for themselves, think for themselves, they have a problem. You do have your own opinion, right? Then don't ask me what you have to think about it. I can't explain it either."
Don't you secretly cherish those different reactions a little?
Till: "If people think we are really bad, that is of course often annoying and questionable. But it is indeed better than not arousing any reactions at all."
Christoph: "It did surprise us, but it has become part of us."
You also evoke reactions with the show. For the stunt with the dildo, you were even held in an American cell for a couple of hours in '98.
Christoph: "Americans are easily shocked by things that we consider very normal here. But for those involved it was certainly not a pleasant incident, I can assure you. Perhaps Till would like to say something about that."
Till: "We don't do something like this with premeditation. We mainly do a show like that for fun and to illustrate the music. That makes it a bit more pleasant for us on stage, because at least something happens and time goes by faster, haha. And the audience is grateful that there is also something to experience visually. It is not our style to deliberately evoke such extreme reactions. It is not as if we plan it, it just happens naturally."
And yet... Does that rebelliousness have nothing to do with your GDR youth? Is the animal out of the cage now?
Christoph: "That is probably innate, yes. In the GDR, of course, nothing was allowed and the music scene was of little significance. We spent our youth and teenage years in the GDR, so it could not have been otherwise or that it left an indelible impression."
Till: "Yet we weren't really rebellious. We just did what we did, also on stage. We just lived it up, and actually we still do. Only later did we realize that it was quite bold to do that in the GDR."
Were you influenced by show bands like Kiss?
Christoph: "Of course. I wasn't that impressed with the music, but I did have the posters hanging. Musically we were more impressed by Udo Lindenberg, AC/DC, Neubauten, the Neue Deutsche Welle. Very few of them actually came to the GDR. But we didn't know any better. If a band came, it would be talked about for another five years. Those performances were incredibly inflated. haha."
Did you feel like second class citizens?
Till: "That was a big problem, yes, because we were constantly looking to the west. I think the worst thing was that we were not allowed to travel. That was really sad. Other than that, life wasn't that bad, just the traveling... ."
Once an Ossie, always an Ossie?
Till: "Certainly. We still live in East Berlin. Due to our extensive travelling, I don't know whether the term Ossie still has the same meaning for us. But it remains our homeland. You carry it with you in your heart. "
Am I wrong or are you parodying the cliché image that foreigners have of Germans?
Christoph: "You might think. Well, we know how people sometimes think about Germany. Never mind, there is little we can do about that."
Till: "We like to exaggerate and that's part of parody. Only... we don't laugh."
Do you think Dutch people understand German humor?
Christoph: "Germans have a very good sense of humor. But let's talk about you, with your Big Brother-Shit! 1)"

Vegan Protesters Kept Harassing a Restaurant Owner So He Started Carving a Deer in Front of Them
Arizona city shuts down church program that fed the hungry for the last 25 years
March 29, 2024 2:43 pm Robert Zimmerman
They’re coming for you next: In 2022 a new mayor and administration arrived in San Luis, Arizona, and immediately thereafter the food program of Gethsemani Baptist Church in San Luis, Arizona, came under harassment, with repeated citations and bureaucratic demands that it limit its operations, to a point that the threatened fines (more than $4,000) and potential jail terms for its pastor forced the church stop the program, despite operating peaceably and acceptably for a quarter of a century.
After new officials took over in San Luis, the city sent a letter last fall ordering the church to stop using semi-trucks for food delivery at its property. Attempting to resolve the order, the church offered to use smaller trucks. The city denied the request and told the church it must stop the food ministry entirely. These limitations make it functionally impossible to carry out the ministry in the same way. Since receiving the city’s letter, Pastor Jose [Castro] had to significantly cut back on the food ministry. He’s tried to continue feeding the hungry as best he can under these limitations. But this wasn’t enough for the city of San Luis and its new Mayor, Nieves Riedel. Just a few weeks ago, while Pastor Jose passed out emergency food supplies to a small group of people at the church, a city code enforcer showed up unannounced and issued him four citations. Less than a week later, when a third party parked a truck in front of the church for just five minutes, the code enforcer returned and issued Pastor Jose four more citations. Not only will Pastor Jose have to pay fines in municipal court, each future violation may result in criminal charges. These aggressive tactics have now forced Gethsemani to pause its ministry, as the church and Pastor Jose cannot afford the heavy fines or to relocate. Because of the City and Mayor Riedel’s intimidation tactics, the church cannot feed the hungry. That means people are going hungry right now.
The pastor has enlisted the legal services of the non-profit firm, First Liberty, and sued.
It boggles the mind why a mayor and city government would suddenly harass a church in this manner after so many years of success, but such things are no longer a rare exception but almost routine. First Liberty also had a similar case in Ohio that it won. I’ve reported on others here and here.
In addition, I documented numerous examples in the past four years of businesses, governments, and academic organizations blacklisting religious institutions and individuals, merely because of their beliefs. For example, there was the case where a California county government used cell phone data to track church-goers to make sure its members were not violating its odious COVID restrictions by praying together. Then there was the case of a college in Michigan punishing a student because she had gotten a COVID jab exemption because of her religious beliefs. Or what about the charter high school in Florida that allowed and even encouraged its students and teachers to bully, harass, and slander a 14-year-old boy because he liked to bring his bible to school to read.
I could go on but I think I’ve given my readers the flavor. It seems the very existence of religious charity and practice now offends the secular world. It must not exist, no matter how much good it is doing.
In this atmosphere, it seems very clear who the bad guys are, and they are not the ones holding the Bible or Star of David.

Robert Felton: Carving His Path to a Future He’s Crafting Now
So, there just have to be reasons. There have to be reasons why residents of the Wheeling area were willing to endure the three years it took to rebuild Interstate 70 in Ohio County, and there have to be reasons why those same motorists are navigating the aggravation involved with a downtown streetscape project that took longer to design than it will to complete. There are vacant buildings and ongoing demolitions, a declining population and an increasing median age, and there is a past that’s vastly more popular than the region’s present and perpetual reinventing status. Seriously, when will it all end? So, you see, that’s why Robert Felton must know something more than most. Sure, he grew up here, and yes, his grandfather, Ross Felton, is a local legend, and his father, Jack, is a partner of a successful accounting firm in the middle – literally – of the downtown district. But Robert? One of four children who was graduated from The Linsly School School (2014) and Marietta College (2018)? With the credentials he’s already able to list? - Member of the City of Wheeling’s Board of Zoning Appeals. - Member for the City of Wheeling’s Entertainment Endowment Committee. - Member of Parish Council member for the Cathedral of St. Joseph. - Member of the Saints and Sinners, which raises funds for various charities. - Member of the St. Clairsville Moose Lodge. - Member of Lewis Wetzel Rifle & Pistol Club. Plus, the 27-year-old already is a financial advisor for the recently formed McKenzie Riedel Wealth Management firm in Center Wheeling. So, Robert knows something alright. He knows what and who he loves, and he knows just where to find it all in one place. Home. Felton starred for Linsly as a student, and now is a coaching for the Cadets. Why are so proud to be an alum of The Linsly School? The extent of my pride with The Linsly School didn’t fully develop until I had already graduated. While enrolled, I considered Linsly a nurturing but tough-love environment, which was exactly what I needed. It’s a culture enriched in tradition where the closest of friends will be in healthy competitions involving academics, athletics, clubs, or the arts. I particularly enjoyed my involvement with the school-wide art and declamation poetry contests and the annual Extravaganza at the Capitol Theatre. Although we were students from around the world, one unifying notion bound us together: if you want to be the best, you simply have to work the hardest. While in college, I fully realized my gratitude for my Linsly education and the relationships with fellow students, teachers and school staff. It’s important to help current students realize the impact that the institution can have on the rest of their lives. Today, I enjoy coaching soccer at Linsly and connecting with students. I try to instill in them not only the importance of hard work and being there for your teammates but also that receiving a Linsly education is a real honor. While a student, it can be easy to forget, but I wouldn’t trade my education and time at Linsly for anything. How disappointing is it to you that the renovations on the McLure Hotel have stopped until further notice? It was refreshing that we saw some investment into such a vitally historic building in Wheeling. As one of most historic properties in Wheeling, largely from housing multiple United States presidents, the McLure Hotel is unlike any other property downtown. I’m confident that the hotel will again be a staple in our downtown community. Downtown living has rightfully been at the forefront of discussions in Wheeling. These discussions largely stemmed from the vast investments into downtown residential properties including the Boury Lofts, Stone Center Lofts, The Dorris on Main, The Bridge Tavern, the DiCarlo’s Building, the Flatiron Building, and the McLain Flats. Each of them is coupled with a far more aesthetically pleasing view of downtown Wheeling on the horizon, thanks to the streetscape project and restoration of the Suspension Bridge. The team at McKenzie Riedel Wealth Management was formed about six months ago. Why is your firm - McKenzie Riedel - so successful when it comes to wealth management? The success of our team is not only because we have uniquely astounding clients, but the depth of our team is frankly unmatched. From the top down, our team expresses the importance of getting to know our clients through developing genuine relationships. We’re a truly collaborative group solely devoted to those that entrust us with vital financial decisions. Do you plan to remain in Wheeling or move to another city with a larger population? I would love to be in Wheeling for the rest of my life. There’s the business side of it, where some of my most enjoyable conversations are working with clients that I’ve had lengthy relationships with. There’s also the side of it where I simply want to see Wheeling thrive and I can’t think of a reason to leave. The caliber of activities to engage in throughout our community are unlike any other city comparable to Wheeling’s population. We can’t forget that we’re the smallest city in the country with a world-class symphony and we have the country’s largest self-supporting public municipal park, Oglebay, in our backyard. If you want to take a deep breath away from Wheeling and travel, Interstate 70 and the Pittsburgh International Airport will take you there. While it can be easy to look back on the past success of Wheeling and the once vibrant downtown, I’m confident that the right gears are in motion to achieve grand success again. Even downtown’s torn-up streets and sidewalks can’t slow down Wheeling’s momentum. Ross Felton was a visionary during his career in broadcast and entertainment in the Wheeling. Felton passed away in December 2017. What is the best lesson ever taught to you by your grandfather, Ross Felton? Often remembered for his humility, many of the lessons that I learned from my grandfather were stories or experiences that I witnessed in how he engaged with others. He had an ability to treat everyone that he knew with respect and a couple of instances specifically exemplified that respect. Possibly his most notable accomplishment was the founding of Jamboree in the Hills. One summer when I was in college, we took him to “The Jamboree” on a Sunday afternoon. It was remarkable to see not only some of country music’s biggest stars but also many of his old employees of all rank and file, want to spend time with him and express their gratitude. When he retired from Jamboree in the Hills, WWVA, and Capitol Theatre, he found a new way to continue to give back to our community. Well into his 80s, he delivered meals for Catholic Charities to those that were homebound. While I was in middle school, I delivered meals with him one summer morning. I remember that he was never in a rush to drop the food off and go to the next recipient. He wanted to take his time with each person that he delivered a meal to, ask them about their day, and ensure they knew they were important to him. CAR 0623-01732 Read the full article

#domperignon #domperignonvintage #degustameet #moet&chandon #champagne #topchampagne #famouswine #dompe #domperignon2010 https://www.instagram.com/p/CmV9pA0I6yO/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The Devil. Art by Robert Riedel, from Darkness, Earth, and Light.
Baphomet, The Horned Goat of Mendes. A creature that is half man half goat. The devil is the seduction of the material world and physical pleasures. The snake and skulls are domination and bondage. You are caged by an overabundance of luxury. He is the Great Deceiver.

Lana Turner and Juanita Moore in Imitation of Life (Douglas Sirk, 1959)
Cast: Lana Turner, Juanita Moore, John Gavin, Susan Kohner, Sandra Dee, Robert Alda, Dan O'Herlihy, Karin Dicker, Terry Burnham, Troy Donahue, Mahalia Jackson. Screenplay: Eleanore Griffin, Allan Scott, based on a novel by Fannie Hurst. Cinematography: Russell Metty. Art direction: Alexander Golitzen, Richard H. Riedel. Film editing: Milton Carruth. Music: Frank Skinner.
John Gavin was Hollywood's ultimate decorative male, there to look good in bed with Janet Leigh in Psycho (Alfred Hitchcock, 1960) but otherwise to play no significant role in the film. (When he shows up later with Vera Miles, playing Leigh's sister, to find out what happened to Marion Crane, she's the one who does all the work, including the discovery of the mummified Mrs. Bates in the cellar.) It's no surprise that when Gavin died a few years ago, several of the obituaries mentioned the scene in Thoroughly Modern Millie (George Roy Hill, 1967) in which his character is paralyzed by a poison dart: He's been presented as so handsomely wooden that it takes a long time before anyone notices he's just sitting there. He's not quite so inert in Imitation of Life, but that's because Douglas Sirk, like Hitchcock, knew how to make use of him: He's there to hang as nicely on Lana Turner's arm as the Jean Louis gowns do on her body. Unfortunately, this makes for some of the film's weaker scenes, the ones in which Sandra Dee's Susie develops a crush on him, but even there the fault is more Dee's limitations as an actress than Gavin's as an actor. He comes off much better in one of the key scenes, in which his Steve Archer proposes to Turner's Lora Meredith. It works because Turner is skillful enough to make Lora into a woman who knows how not to get trapped by male expectations of what women should be. It's not quite so well-played as the scene in Now, Voyager (Irving Rapper, 1942) I wrote about a couple of days ago, in which Charlotte Vale rebuffs Jerry Durrance's suggestion that she should be looking for a man instead of taking care of his daughter, but that's because Lana Turner wasn't Bette Davis. Still, the scene comes off, and it's reinforced later when Lora is the one who proposes to Steve, after she's gotten what she wanted. The film belongs, of course, to the women, not only Turner but also and especially to Juanita Moore and Susan Kohner, who got the Oscar nominations they deserved. It's possible to fault the film for "whitewashing" by casting Kohner as the Black girl who tries to pass for white, especially since in the earlier version of Imitation of Life (John M. Stahl, 1934), the corresponding character was played by Fredi Washington, who was indeed Black. But even to raise the issue of "passing" in 1959, especially in a film that some considered little more than soap opera, was audacious: The Production Code had long forbidden any treatment of miscegenation. And Sirk artfully turns the issue into a generational one: Sarah Jane's desire to be white as a reaction against the subservience of her mother, foreshadowing a generation gap that would be operative in the coming decade's civil rights struggle. Sirk's films have a way of working themselves into your head unexpectedly, putting the lie to my observation that drama makes you think and melodrama makes you feel. Sirk's melodrama -- Imitation of Life is unashamed of the clichés it exploits and usually transcends -- undoubtedly makes you feel. Is there ever a dry eye at showings of the film's funeral finale? But by confronting the problems that underlie the melodrama it also has a sneaky way of making you think.

Of course bassists are important!
For example live Was Ich liebe. When Olli starts playning the song just comes together - you can hear the difference.
youtube
Robert Trujillo from Metallica.
Rage Against The Machines’s Killing In a Name, without a bass!?
youtube
Reggie Arvizu. What would be Korn without the bass?!
For example Lonny Eagleton, the new bassist for Black Veil Brides, has YouTube channel. Besides he is total sunshine, he is doing bass seasons, playing BVB. And it’s fucking cool. When you hear the raw bass sound with song as background - the coolest
