RNM Create Week 2020 Day 7: Cheerleaders

For six days, creators have been reveling in all the love, so now it's the moment to give some of that love back. Tell us about those people who have helped you through your creative process, whether it's your beta or that particular person who's reblogged everything you've posted or commented on everything you've shared, or that person who's been holding your hand all the time while you worked hard on your creation. We want to know everything about them! We want to know those wonderful people who are helping you as a creator. You guys are an essential part of this fandom!

@exploring-in-space: Alix is my number one ride or die. She encourages me endlessly and in ways that I can never really articulate. Every time I come up with a crazy idea and bring it to her, she never judges me, she’s right there with me trying to figure out the best way to bring it to life. Not only that, but she’s an incredibly talented writer and I’m so lucky to have her as a sounding board. She deals with all my RNM rants and if you think I rant a lot on here just imagine all the garbage that she has to listen to first.

My Salt Squad: @insidious-intent @caitlesshea @themoonwhenimlost the best salt people I could ever ask for. Every time I come to them with a salty take they all validate me and don't make me feel like a horrible person hahaha you all are some of my favorite people in this fandom!

Finer Things Club: @el-gilliath @christchex @nielrian who distracted me and cheered me up when RNM was breaking my heart. A special shout out to Tove who held my hand through almost every episode and constantly encourages me! We��re co-writing our Big Bang and even though I’m the slowest writer ever, she is so understanding and patient 💙💙

Darwin's Laws of Love and Attraction by @insidious-intent

Oh man I love a good failed set up fic and this one is just even better than anything I could have imagined. Michael bearing witness to almost every single one of Alex’s failed set ups by Kyle and Liz is just so cute! But in the end, Alex finds his own match without their meddling and it’s absolute perfection. Such a sweet and fluffy fic, definitely a fave!

If you know me, you might know that I’m OBSESSED with the Scream in There series. It is without a doubt one of the best written series I’ve ever read 💙 But when it comes to fluff, our salad days is right there at the top in the series. I love how the story unfolds on how Alex acquired River and manically drove from New Mexico all the way to Massacussetts to bring him into their little fold. It has angst of course because these two are still dealing with their own mental health journeys, but there’s so much love between them and now they get to share it with River. And it’s just so sweet and delightful.

Malex as dads is one of my favorite tropes because I firmly believe they would be excellent at it. And Caitlin goes above and beyond in showcasing that in this fic! And it’s even better because it’s another alien baby that they name Tripp. It’s just so wholesome and sweet and everything I want for them

This is such a fun and sweet little oneshot. I love a good meet ugly prompt and this one is particularly fun: Alex moves into a house he just bought and finds out that Michael has been squatting there. It’s just such an absurd premise that absolutely works for them and I love what benkouji did with it!

RNM Create Week 2020 Day 6: Series/Multipart/WiP

There are so many creations that are part of a series, or have different interconnected parts. Whether it's a series of gifsets or a fic that spans out through several chapters or art that's part of a larger series. Tells about your favorite series in this fandom! Sky's the limit!

Bleeding Touch by @bestillmyslashyheart

I adore this fic. It’s told from different POVs in the aftermath of a shooting at the Crashdown where Alex gets injured where he’s amputated and has a difficult time accepting help because of the trust issues that go with the amputation. It’s wonderfully angsty but in such a realistic way. Definitely a fantastic read.

Finding You by @myrmidryad

myrmidryad writes some of the best long fic in this fandom! Seriously. I really loved Finding You in particular because Michael and Alex are so young and so in love. It has a naivety that we don’t always get to see in canon, but still comes with the hardships of Alex’s abusive past, Michael’s abusive past, and Liz and Alex accidentally finding out about the alien secret when Michael saves Liz’s life. It’s a very heartwarming fic and what I particularly love about this fic is how much detail myrmidryad puts in describing all the various locations they end up camping across the country. It made me want to do a cross country road trip!

The Black Parade by @vague-shadows and @pippsmcgee

I almost didn’t give this fic a chance because I was never interested in the movie District Nine, but @christchex told me how good it was so I decided to read it and I am sooo glad I did! This fic is just unbelievably good. I love the way that that everyone’s dynamics are explored, Michael and Isobel and Max in particular is just so stunningly done. But then weirdly I also loved Michael and Jesse’s interactions, despite how horrific they were, they were all so interesting and I think the horror of it just shows how well written it was. And of course, Michael and Alex’s relationship is just perfect. It ends with a bit of a sad note, but there are still two more parts coming out and I’m REALLY looking forward to them!

Daddy Gave Me a Name by @aewriting

This has to be one of my favorite WIPs. This fic only has five chapters and I have reread all of them countless times because they’re all so well written. I adore aewriting’s Michael and Alex characterizations and I think they really shine in this fic. The sarcastic way Michael buys Alex a box of condoms saying thank you for your service just kills me every time. It’s such a fantastic fic and I’m hoping highlighting it here will peer pressure aewriting into writing another chapter soon ;) jk! I know you have other fics and I will always patiently wait for this one to update!

Michael Sanders AU by @prouvaireafterdark

We all know that Lynne writes some of the best smut in this fandom and she really delivers with the first part of this series with Michael and Alex getting carried away and almost getting caught by Walt. That would be enough on its own but we are lucky enough to have a whole universe of what would have happened if Michael had been adopted by Sanders and how that would have impacted his relationship with Alex. Plus this series has one of my all time favorite tags in it Walt Sanders Loves His Bi Son And His Bi Son’s Gay Boyfriend. Wholesome 💙

Fight the Break of Dawn by DinoPrincess (idk if she has a tumblr but if anyone knows, lmk so I can tag!)

This fic is honestly very breathtaking. I have read it several times and I still get emotional when I do. It’s about Michael never finding a home and giving up more and more of himself as a sacrifice to the desert. He and Alex hook up one of the times that he’s home on leave and Michael gets pregnant but doesn’t tell Alex. After his baby is born, he does want to tell him but the next time Alex comes up, he avoids Michael and is implied to be in the Know about aliens with his fam. It’s still an on-going fic and as of right now Alex is still oblivious to little Haley, so I’m really looking forward to reading when Alex finds out!

RNM Create Week 2020 Day 5: Angst

Canon provides so much pain on a daily basis, and some creators enjoy ripping our hearts with their works. Today's the day when we all celebrate creators who love breaking us. Share those works with all of us!

I would be remiss if I didn’t include the queen of angst on this list! A soulmate almost character death? Sign me the fuck up and let me be ripped to pieces. That’s exactly what Tove did with this one, but as always she delivered with a happy ending so I wasn’t crying for too long 💙

Could've Had a Family by @el-gilliath

Another very angsty fic that just destroys me. In this, Michael finds out that the Evans wanted to adopt him too but Isobel and Max interfered to make sure it didn’t happen. And all Michael wants is to find comfort from Alex, so bittersweet and wonderful.

truth (to the people we love) by @lambourngb

The first time I read this fic, I started sobbing. The idea that Alex recorded a farewell message years ago and kept it queued up even after he came back to Roswell so Michael knew how much he loved him, just wonderful. I still get a little teary-eyed every time I reread this fic

No Voice series by @spaceskam

This series is just so fantastic. The first part where Michael tries so hard to get Alex to trust him and the way he pines for him is just so wonderful. I love the build up of, how Alex slowly comes out his shell and trusts Michael, even going out in public on a date with him so wonderful. And then second part just sucker punches you in the heart. How they navigate their relationship in a new environment was going to be tricky to begin with but when they both want different things? Heart ache. But in a wonderful way because it ends on a hopeful note. I hope Alyssa writes more of this universe, it's so wonderful 💙

RNM Create 2020 Day 2: Character

Oh boy this fic - this fic!! I love it so much. It deals with Alex's exploration of his own sexuality after high school and the flings he has away from home but also the way he always comes back to Michael. He doesn't ask questions about the strange handprint that shows up on him, just know that it's from Michael and it gives him comfort. I read this fic whenever I'm feeling sad, it's honestly so gorgeous 💙 And it does such a wonderful job of exploring Alex’s relationships with people outside of Roswell and fleshing out his character. So wonderful

The Right to Be Free by @manesalex

Am I bias because I prompted this to Molly? Maybe! But I don't care. She did a much better job than I ever could have imagined. Outside POV is one of my favorite tropes and having a bunch of them witness how in love malex is while they think they're being smooth on the downlow is just utter perfection. This fic explores different characters witness Alex and Michael in love and it makes me so happy

RNM Create Week 2020 Day 3: Alternate Universe (AU)

This fic is equal parts fun and delightfully angsty! And written by RNM’s AU queen! I love Alex in this story, so confident and sure of himself, but also having a crippling self doubt that people only care about him for his money and that everyone just sees $$ with him. Then enter Michael and Alex actually wants more than his extravagent lifestyle and he pines for someone who doesn’t care at all about all his money. It’s just such a wonderful read. And the Instagram posts are a great touch!

Reverence Must Rise by  @ninswhimsy

Nin’s crusaders universe is one of my favorite in RNM. I absolutely adored the first part from Alex’ POV and then was wonderfully surprised to find out there was going to be a sequel from Michael’s POV! And it’s just so wonderful, the way that he pines for Alex while also saving his life; honestly so gorgeous. Definitely a fave!

Don't Look Back in Anger by Page160of180 (I don’t know if they have a tumblr, if anyone knows, lmk so I can tag!)

I love this AU so much. It’s an interesting take on what would have happened if Michael got adopted by Sanders and spent his childhood villainizing and hating the Manes. Then he gets the genius idea to seduce Alex to try to exploit the family alien secret, but alas, poor Michael falls so hard for Alex and stays stubbornly in denial about it. It’s angsty at times but honestly such a wonderful read with a happy ending. I love it dearly.

Wow where to even start with this fic. I was stunned by the different relationships portrayed in this fic and how difficult they can be to maintain when you're growing up and drifting apart. Rosa and Alex's friendship in this fic was just gorgeous, the way they leaned on each other and communicated via lyrics was just so perfectly them. And the way that adiwriting explored the relationships between Alex and his brothers - especially Greg - were also an incredible highlight to this fic.

May Your Heart Know Peace by @adiwriting

Another fic by adiwriting! I left her a comment saying that when I first started reading this fic, I thought it would be a short and sweet 5 + 1 fic that explored Alex's relationship with his mother. But this fic went absolutely beyond that! It explored his relationship with his mother and how it impacted other relationships he had in his life like Forrest, Greg, Michael, and Flint. This has to be my recent fave of a fic that has absolutely incredible dynamics portrayed in it

This fic is exactly what Michael deserves. He deserves to have a friend who isn’t interested in having sex with him or because they’re obligated to because they’re family. It’s just Michael and Christi’s OC Ava and they are just so wonderful together and the bantering is so fun. I just love it so much 💙
