Susi ng Bayan: Rizal Park

Ang Rizal Park o tinatawag na “Luneta Park” ay isang importanteng lugar na makikita sa Pilipinas. Tinataguriang isa sa pinaka malaking park sa Asia na may sakop na 58 hectares o 140 acres. Tinatwag itong “Luneta” kasi ang hugis na ito ay hugis ‘crescent’. Ang orihinal na lugar na makakahanap ung park ay tinatawag na “Bagumbayan” datin noong sakop ng mga Espanyol. Makikita natin ang Rizal Park na katabi lang o malapit sa Intramuros, isa pang importanteng lugar sa Pilipinas. Ang park nato ay importante sa historiya ng Pilipinas kasi dito natin makikita na namatay si Jose Rizal noong December 30, 1896. Bago November 2019, makikitang skulptura na tinatawag ‘La Madre Filipina’ na nakikita sa Rizal Park, bago mapalipat sa orihinal na lugar na nasa Jones Bridge pagkatapos ng 73 na taong lumpias. Pero ang tanyag na rason na mga taong pumupunta ang mga tao ay isang akit na tinatawag “Jose Rizal Monument”. Isa tong monument para maalala ang pambansang bayani si Jose Rizal. Ang monument na ito ay gawa sa standing sculpture ni Jose Rizal, na may kasamang obelisk. Habang hawak niya ang kanyang pinakakilalang nobela “El Filibusterismo at ang Noli Me Tangere”. May plaque sa monumento na binabasang “To the memory of José Rizal, patriot and martyr, executed on Bagumbayan Field December Thirtieth 1896. This monument is dedicated by the people of the Philippine Islands”.  Ang perimeter ng monument ay binabantay ng Philippine Marine Corps’ Marine Security at Escort Group. Ang Rizal Monument ay plinano at ginawa noong sakop ng mga Amerikano sa Pilipinas noong maagang 20th century. Ngunit para lang tong normal na park, ang ‘historical symbolism’ na nasa lugar naito ay importante sa mga Pilipino. Binibigay hugis ang independence at freedom ng mga taong bayan sa mga nagsasakop sa Pilipinas, na pinapakita ito sa lagay ng pwesto ni Jose Rizal, na nasa gitna ng monumento.
