summary: Ace and you fell overboard and got lost on a deserted island
Tumblr media
"What are we going to do now?"
You gulp, shaking miserably in the bitter cold of December. Your clothes, even though they have been dried thanks to Ace's power, somehow still feel so damped, giving you the chilled to the bone.
The two of you are standing on the seashore on an isolated island, shivering and freezing in the frosty air, watching the grey ocean that stretches out beyond eyesight hopelessly.
It was all Ace's fault. He has been messing with you the whole morning, making you chase him around the Moby Dick, and ending up dragging both of you to fall overboard into the vast cold sea beneath. There was no one on the deck at that moment, and Ace - being an ultimate anchor - sank too fast that you didn't even have time to yell out but had to save him first. By the time you finally managed to pull Ace out of the surface, the ship was already far away.
It took you nearly three hours to swim through the icy water, carrying a heavy anchor on your shoulder that seemed to be able to pull you down at any moment. You had to take off most of your clothes to float on the water, which just made the cold even more extreme. Not until did your hand froze, your lungs constricted, thinking that the two of you were going to die, that a small island appeared in front of you. You didn't know what strength helped you to get there, but eventually, you two were safely ashore. Now, Ace finally woke up after about an hour of unconsciousness from being drained by the sea, yet you guys still see no hope of getting out of this island.
Worse yet, it's starting to get dark, the temperature drops slowly, and the only flimsy clothing left doesn't do you any good at keeping warm.
"I guess we have no choice but to stay here tonight," says Ace apologetically after a while. He feels deeply regret putting you in this situation. Not to mention today is Christmas; you should have had a nice cozy party on the ship, yet here you are, shaking in the algidity on a deserted island all because of his fault.
"No!" You grieve, but deep inside, you know that there's no other way.
"I'm so sorry, babe." Ace wraps his hand around you, pulling you in a warm embrace, and you tremble at the sudden warmness you feel when snuggling closer to his body. Ace is a real portable heater; even in this kind of weather, he's still so warm and balmy.
"You have to make it up for me." You say, pouting to his chest.
Ace's chuckle echoes from the hollow of your neck. He raises his head to look you straight in the eye.
Above the velvety sky, the first night stars have appeared, but you can no longer care about them when now, sparkling right in front of you is a whole galaxy inside the iris of your loved one.
"I'd love to, honey," Ace smiles, nuzzling your nose gently with his, "Tell me, how would you want me to make it up?"
"Keep me warm tonight," You demand, leaning closer to meet his lips. The moment you two are drowned in a deep, tender kiss that burns you inside out, you knew that you would be safe and sound tonight, under his wings. And he will keep you warm, oh, definitely, the whole night.
Maybe sometimes spending Christmas out of nowhere is not that bad. As long as you guys are together. As long as you are with Ace...

Tumblr media
"I want to see some snow!"
You said, for a thousand times already. Observing the familiar scene in front, with bright blue sea, golden sunshine, and warm white sand, you couldn't help but sigh heavily. It was Christmas, for crying out loud! Where were your snowflakes and freezing air? Where was your Christmas tree, with beautiful and shining decorations on it, and a pile of presents underneath? Why everything you could see here was endless lines of palm trees?
"It's Christmas! Why can't we go to a winter island and enjoy this day there? Haven't we had enough of the ocean already? We live on the sea every day!"
You whined, looking up at your boyfriend with puppy eyes, hoping that would melt his heart. Ace looked back at you lovingly, but his big grin didn't show any sight that he was moved. The freckled was topless as usual, but this time, he's swapped out his shorts for a pair of bright red swimming trunks. Okay, red could have a Christmas vibe, sure; however, you still couldn't stand the scenery around you. It was no Christmas-ish at all.
"But y/n, you can't ever have enough of Mother Sea! Plus, it's been a long time we haven't go to the beaches!" He said gleefully.
"Yes, and this time we even found an isolated island where no marine is around! Don't you think it's perfect?" Thatch jumped in.
Their face was all beaming with unnecessary enthusiasm; what idiots! You glared at Thatch, crossing your arms across your chest in disagreement.
"No. In fact, I don't see any reason why you people should enjoy going to the beaches. Especially when no one in this crew knows how to swim."
Both men look shocked as if they just realized it now. Thatch put one of his hands to his chest, pretending like your words have hurt him deeply.
"Oh my God, Ace! Did you hear them?"
"Aw, come on y/n! It's going to be fun!" Your boyfriend looked at you pleadingly, and your lips twitched as you saw his adorable pout. He knew your weak point very well, this man.
Other members of the Whitebeard crew stood around you guys, anxiously awaiting your final decision. You noticed that they are all already dressed in bathing suits. Marco had a cute floppy hat hanging around his neck while Haruta clutched tight onto a duck-shaped float. Even Izou has had his sunglasses on, and you couldn't deny he looks extra hot in that. (sorry Ace)
Sighing, you looked back at Whitebeard, who had been silent until now and just lovingly watched over his cubs.
"Pops?" You sounded somewhat imploring, and Pops laughed at your tone of voice. He gave you a knowing look.
"My child, you know you can't beat them! Gurarararara! Just enjoy today to the fullest, alright?"
He added, seeing your broken face in sympathy.
"We will find an isolated winter island next year. And I will decorate a Christmas tree only for you, child."
And that settled things. You hugged Pops tight and pecked a quick kiss on his cheeks.
"Thank you! Only dad loves me!"
Ace was just waiting for that. He excitedly pulled your hand to join him as the rest of the crew swam across the beaches, cheering loudly. The sun was shining more brightly than usual, and above the sky, a few white clouds drifted by idly. You could hear the waves crashing among the cheering of your friends, felt the salty breezes caressing your skin, and instinctively you laughed out loud with your boyfriend. It was such a joyous day, anyway. There was no reason to be sulky and grumpy forever.
And just like the Oldman advice, you had truly enjoyed the day to the fullest. It was such a fun day off, no navy chasing, no enemies lurking around, just you and your precious comrades frolicking all day in the warm golden sun. There was a watermelon slapping contest (everyone had to stop Ace before he smashed someone's head before reaching the target). There was also a volleyball match on the sand. At first, it was just for fun, but in the end, the boys were all enraged and turned it into a fiery battle between devil fruit powers. And Ace even made you a pretty sandman but ended up falling right into it and ruining it all.
You had too much fun that you didn't realize when the sun had already set. Night came, covering the sky with endless glittering stars, and on the beach, everyone had already made a great bonfire. And when it comes to a campfire, it means partying.
Thatch prepared several Christmas-related dishes for the party, as a way to make up for your lacking holiday atmosphere. There were tiger prawns with chermoula butter, stuffing balls, oyster stews, cioppino, salads, and for desserts, he made an enormous Yule Log, cranberry tarts, and lots of gingerbread man. You were grinning ear to ear and enjoying the treat when Ace came over and sat right next to you.
"Your smile's so big I can't even see your eyes anymore." He commented jovially.
"These are delicious," You replied simply, "Here, try some! Say ahhh!"
Ace looked at you suspiciously as you held a piece of tart cake high, gesturing him to open his mouth.
"Wahh! What's got into you, y/n? You've never shared your food."
You rolled your eyes dramatically.
"Right. I only not share with you. But today is a special day, and I'm in a good mood, so open your mouth quick before I change my mind."
Ace chuckled at your attitude and obediently chomped down the special treat that was holding under his nose.
"Uhmm, yummy!"
"And that's the only piece for you."
"I did not come here for that; why are you so cruel, babe." He made a feign hurting face, and you couldn't help but giggle a bit.
"So what do you want, Portgas?"
"Dancing! Come dance with me, baby!" Ace said with sparkles in the eyes and the brightest smile ever. He didn't wait for your response nor give you a chance to refuse, pulling you right up and into the heart of the party where everyone was dancing and singing around the campfire.
You felt the heat of the fire dancing against your skin as you both approached it, or maybe it was Ace's body warmth as he wrapped his arms around your waist and pulled you in so close that you could sense his abs on you. Your hand automatically went around Ace's neck as he started swaying you around slowly.
"I haven't finished eating yet." You faked a complaint, and your boyfriend's smile went even wider.
"I'll make it up for you." He promised, pressing a quick peck to your forehead.
"How?"
"I don't know yet, maybe next Christmas?" Ace sounded not too convinced, and you laughed with his words. Oh, how he loved the sound of your happiness, love how melodious and lovely it was for him.
"I don't believe you, firefly. No, especially when it comes to food."
You two rotated in a slow waltz move, which was strange regardless of the vibrant music around. It was as if you were dancing in your own universe, despite everything else in the world.
As if you were dancing to imaginary music that only existed for the two of you.
As if only the flickering warmth from the bonfire and the starlight in Ace's eyes were substantial.
"Then how about...I'll make you a snowman, a real big one when we come to a winter island next year?"
"I'm afraid that you will eventually destroy it as you did to my poor sandman this year."
"I won't," He said quickly, and his eyes became dreamy all of a sudden, "And the year after next, I'll decorate you a Christmas tree, too."
"Oh?"
"And the year after the year after next, I'll, I'll buy you a surprise present."
"It won't be a surprise anymore if you already say it now, idiot." You said, feeling his forehead slowly drop and rest itself against yours. You were too close now, only a breath away from each other.
"And the year after the year after the year after next, uhhh," He hesitated, perhaps running out of ideas.
"I'd love some candy canes." You suggested.
"And hot chocolate?"
"And maybe you could dress as a Santa Claus."
Ace grinned at the idea.
"I'll put your present into the stocking."
"I'll buy a reindeer cosplay. I'll have a red nose." You started to dream about the future with him. It was so lovely, yet a bit wild, to look into the distant future with your loved one, knowing that you two will still be together next year, the year after, and perhaps even longer than that, perhaps even ... forever.
Ace seemed to love that thought.
"You will look so cute, and I will want to kiss you passionately."
"You can kiss me now if you want." You told him, half-jokingly.
"Yeah? Why, yes, I would do it right now, and do it tomorrow, and do it next month. I would do it next year, the year after that, and so on. I would do it every day, everywhere, and forever. I would kiss you forever."
"Forever sounds a bit scary, though." You replied, a bit timid even though sweetness was washing over your soul. Your boyfriend might not very trustworthy when it came to food, yes, but with things like this, you knew he always meant it with all his heart.
Ace looked at you affectionately before dipping down, covering your lips with the passionate kiss he promised; his words still ringing in your ears before every other sound was washed away.
"Not with you, babe. If it were for you, I would love you forever. Forever and always."

"Late-night delivery!"
Following the voice, you looked up from the pile of paperwork to a tall blond man standing at the door. He was holding a tray high in one hand. The light coming in from the door he left open made you wince, for you had been working in the dark for too long.
"Oh, hi Marco. What time is it?" Rubbing your eyes tiredly, you asked with such a dry and languid voice that you even startled yourself.
"My dear, it's 1a.m now," Marco replied as he walked to your bed in the corner of the room. He set the tray down on the bedside table. "I think you might want a little rest-yoi!"
1 a.m! Oh no, so that meant you had been working nonstop for 10 hours straight! And that also meant—
"Oh my! So it’s already Christmas?" You let your head fall into your palm, exclaiming in disbelief. It was Christmas! Christmas—the time when people are supposed to have fun, rest, eat cake, and drink wine! And here you were, working your ass off on this very joyous day.
"Oh, it's not Christmas yet. It just became the 24th an hour or so ago-yoi."
"But I haven't finished my work. I still have tons to do before the end of the year," you groaned, staring blankly at the half-written letter in front of you.
You were a writer, and your main job was to write comforting letters for those in need. Life was tough. Everyone was struggling to survive. And every day, you received hundreds of pieces of mail. They all wanted just a little bit of support; someone to comfort or guide them with whatever they were going through. You understood that; however, the number of requests always spiked during the holiday season, and you couldn't get a moment's rest. Besides, sometimes you received some requests which were so bizarre that you didn't know how to feel about them anymore. If you could, you would never want to meet those people in real life.
"What is the request this time-yoi?" Marco came up behind you, hunching over to read the letter lying open on the desk. The moment he bent down close enough, you immediately leaned back against his chest. The warmth from Marco helped you to sober up a bit.
Snorting at his question, you said, quite bitterly,
"Something about overwork."
"Looks like you were writing for yourself, hm?" He chuckled, lovingly rubbing your sore shoulders and biceps. You appreciated the action: your body had been so stiff after long hours just sitting in one place.
"I don't even see why I bother ha!"
"Well, my bird, you truly need some rest right now." Marco frowned, realizing how tired you were just from the strained muscle he felt under his hands—he was a doctor, after all.
"I have made you your favorite drink, too-yoi," he added.
"Uhmmm—" You tried to protest, but Marco didn't let you say anything else. He pulled you up, wrapped his hand around your butt, and carried you like that straight to bed.
Letting you down properly, Marco threw a warm blanket all over you before handing you your late-night meal. There were some sandwiches and, oh, your heart fluttered with sweetness— hazelnut latte. Yes, the perfect drink for a cold winter night like this. Marco still remembered your favorite drink even though you just had only told him once before. And that was long ago.
"Thank you, darling." You kissed the side of his face reverently as Marco sat down next to you, one hand looping around your waist to pull you closer. He just hmphed back as a response, but you could see the corner of his mouth curled up in a light satisfied smile.
For a moment, neither of you talked as you started gobbling up your supper. Your boyfriend just sat there watching you lovingly. He loved seeing the way your cheeks puffed up when eating, thinking it was as cute as ever.
Marco finally spoke after you had done with the sandwiches; his voice indicated that there would be no more compromises,
"And you have to take a rest tomorrow-yoi. Doctors orders."
"But the letters—" Sipping the cup, you voiced a weakly protest. Now that you had been fed, laziness started to grow within you. Not to mention the warmth you felt just idly leaning against your boyfriend, curling up in a warm blanket like a sushi roll. Oh, thinking about work right now didn't sound too appealing at all.
Marco's hand reached out and grabbed yours, squeezing it lightly. Looking straight into your eyes, he said,
"It's alright, darling. You've worked hard. I know that you have been working more than anyone else. And I'm very very proud of my little bean. You have done an excellent job this year; your work has soothed so many people out there you may never know. So it's alright for you to take a day break-yoi. Plus, it's Christmas tomorrow, don't you want to have a date with me, hm? Or we are too old for this now-yoi?"
You giggled as the sweet sensation washed over you, warming up your heart and your weary body. Oh, Marco, Marco, how could you ever tell how much he meant to you, to your life? No letter of comfort you've ever written can compare with his simple statement; your fatigue seemed to disappear all at once.
"Aw, I love you, babe. And no, a date sounds too irresistible."
"I love you, too-yoi," Marco smiled, kissing your temple softly.
However, this man never let a romantic moment last long, and you wrinkled when the next thing he said was:
"Now, will you go to bed yourself or will I have to sing you to sleep?"
He really did know how to ruin the mood, didn't he?
Rolling your eyes dramatically, you pulled him down to the bed with you, and by the mischievous grin on your face, Marco knew right away what you were up to.
"Oh, I don't know. Maybe another option? We still have time, don't we?"
Anyway, tomorrow would be a day off for the two of you. And oh, there would be lots of time, for sure.

The turkey got burned.
The turkey got burned.
You look at it, horrified. What have you done, oh no?
It is late afternoon, and you are preparing a surprise party for Christmas Eve. You want to make everything perfect and fancy, for not only it is such a holy night, but also the night when you first met the love of your life – Rayleigh. However, now you aren't sure if you could make it on time, and that is all thanks to the burning turkey. You must have set the wrong timer, a trivial mistake you never made; perhaps works and deadlines had drained you and messed things up. Tears are burning in the eyes as you throw yourself into the nearby chair, burying your face in the palm of your hand. What are you going to do now? What is Rayleigh going to say?
Thinking about Rayleigh, the memory floods back to you all of a sudden. Outside, the sun slowly disappears under the horizon, and darkness begins to pour in from the window, coloring the kitchen in the pale black of a winter eventide.
The night that two of you met is also a messed-up night like this...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was a snow-free night, a little unusual compared to other Christmas Eve. Nonetheless, you wished it could have snowed a little bit, so you could feel like the main character in the novel, running away from your problems at nightfall, with snowflakes falling on you, dried away the tears streaming down your face. But of course, life was never going the way you want, you thought bitterly to yourself as you sat on the bench in the park, staring blankly at the gray night sky above. The moonlight shone dimly through the foliage, and from afar, you could hear people cheering and celebrating Christmas. As if you were the only one left in the world at that moment, left alone in your sorrow and dismal. The idea made you shiver a bit.
Lots of things had happened. Mostly family stuff. Because apparently, the one who was closest to you was also the one who hurt you the most. Your family thought they were thinking for your sake, yet never put themselves in your shoes and ended up breaking your very heart under the name of love. That was why Christmas Eve had never been a comfortable event for you, even though you did love them lots. You did! But this year, being overwhelmed by the sadness within your heart (it kept growing bigger and bigger), you chose to run away. No one would ever find you here; you knew that. However, there was something in you that still wanted to be found.
To be seen, and to be listened to.
"Oooooooh, whatcha have here. A lost lamb, huhhhhh?" A slurred voice came from the right made you jolt. You turned around to two fat and drunken men staggering toward you, vulgar smiles drew on their faces, and through those murky looks, you knew right away that they didn't mean any good intention.
"Easy man, don't yer see they are lonely now yer jerk. Don't scare 'em. We gotta be gentleeee!" another man giggled at his friend. His watch drifted over your body lustfully.
You stood right up in defense.
"Get lost!" You hissed, eyeing them with a stern and warning gaze.
The two men seemed pissed off with your behavior. Their faces turned red, which - you noted - just made them uglier and more hateable, and they changed their tone immediately.
"Look at 'em, Allen. We're tryin' to be nice, and look how they treat us." The first guy snorted; fury danced in his bleary eyes.
"I know, Bob. We have to punish them and teach them manners," Allen replied his friend, and both of them approached you menacingly.
Panicking, you could feel the heart pound like crazy in your chest, and cold sweat started to perspire on your palms. You tried to shout but desperately realized how shaky your voice was.
"S-stay back! Or I'll yell. My b-boyfriend is coming, and he will kill both of you. Stay back!"
"Yer little liar," Bob smirked, reaching his hand out to grab yours, making you scream in pain and disgust, "Yer know no one will come for yer."
His words were like a sharp knife stabbing your open wound. For a moment, you thought you were going to collapse and give in when suddenly, a cold yet reliable voice spoke up from behind you.
"What do you think you are doing to my lover, cruds?"
You turned around, and for a split second, your heart calmed, knowing that you would be safe now, seeing a man standing still in the dim moonlight. You didn't know who he was, but somehow you felt like crying, and your soul sobbed as if it had found something long lost.
The new man appeared to be middle-aged, with silver hair flowing over his shoulders and slight wrinkles in his tanned skin. He had a long scar over his right eye, but you didn't find that scary; on the contrary, it just made him more unusually attractive.
"Who are yer?" Allen shouted angrily, thinking how everything was going well before getting interrupted by a stranger.
"Haven't I had stated it already?" The man said sarcastically, "They are my lover. Now get your filthy hand off of them before I get angry."
Allen and Bob couldn't explain the sudden shiver running through their spine when they heard the man's voice, and Bod unconsciously let go of you as his hand started to tremble nonstop. You took no time rushing toward the silver-haired man and dissembling yourself behind him, clutching his silver robe as if it was a lifebuoy.
"Fuck!" The two men were filled with rage. They wanted to catch you back, but the stranger's gaze somehow pinned them in place, making them unable to move. Cold sweat began to trickle down their backs, and they got goosebumps at the invisible pressure in front of them.
"Leave now." The silver-haired man pressed each word softly, but to them, it was like thunder. Scared, they turned and ran for their lives.
You watched in awe as those bad guys ran far away. They stood no chance before this man, even though he hadn't even done anything. It must be the strange aura around him, an intimidated and dangerous feeling that could scare anyone out. However, you felt absolutely at peace next to him, which was strange because you just met him not long ago.
"Thank you." You said shyly, releasing your hand from his robe as if you had only realized how close you two were just now.
"It's my pleasure." The man smiled gently at you, making your heart skip a beat or two. You could feel the heat start rising on your cheeks, so you had to look down to hide the blush, pretending like you just found your shoes very entertaining.
"You shouldn't be outside this late." Your savior continued, "Don't you have any Christmas party to join? People are celebrating out there. I must have passed a dozen feasts and parties on my way here."
Your heart sank again, finally remembered how you were here in the first place. You pursed your lips, trying hard not to cry because somehow, that soft voice of his had made the wall around your heart melt. He was just a stranger - you reminded yourself.
The man seemed to realize the blue in your expression. Hesitating for a heartbeat, he gently pated your head as if he was comforting a sulky child.
"I'm sorry," He whispered, "You don't have to say if you don't want to. But it is dangerous staying out at this hour. I can walk you home if you want."
And that was when you broke down. Maybe his little gesture finally had pulled the last barrier in your soul, or maybe, the fact he was a stranger made it easier to open up. Tears started streaming down your face like never-ending waterfalls.
"I-I don't want to go home. A-and I don't have any p-party to join because my friends have forgotten me. I-I have no place to go."
The silver-haired took aback by your sudden emotion, but it was just for a second. He knew what to do right away, pulling you into a kind hug and patting your head gently.
"There, there."
He has the smell of the earth, and fresh breezes at the sea, you thought when you quietly took in his scent, resting your head against the chest of a stranger at night out of nowhere. And mixed with that scent was the faint smell of boozes, which made you a bit dizzy, as if you had drunken in it. His arms around your shoulder felt warm as ever; you've never felt this warmness for a long time.
The two of you stood like that as time passed. You didn't know how long it was. You just kept crying, crying as if something had unlocked inside of you. You cried away all the sadness, all the anger that accumulated in your heart, while the man just stayed silently hugging you, gently brushing your hair, or rubbing your back every time you hiccup from sobbing too much. Oh, how gentle, how peaceful. You finally feel like you've been heard and seen. Like you have been found.
After a while, you finally could stop yourself from bawling your eyes out. Clumsily, you pulled away from his embrace; your eyes were red from crying too much, and you were pretty sure that you looked like a mess right now.
"I'm s-sorry." You stammered, trying not to look him in the eyes.
"It's all good." He said, didn't mind at all, even though you could see a large patch of his robe was soaked in water, which made you even more embarrassed.
There was a moment of silence before the man suddenly spoke up, and you were too surprised to say anything.
"You said you don't have anywhere to go. Why not come to my place tonight? I can't promise a big party, but I do have some good stuff."
Your eyes widened, and your jaw dropped. Normally, you would never agree with that kind of invitation, especially from a stranger who you had just met for not long. But tonight was Christmas Eve, the night of magic and hope. Therefore, you found yourself replied.
"What kind of good stuff?"
A small grin appeared on his face.
"Booze and bread. How does that sound?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You chuckle to yourself as you recall the memory. Booze and bread? Seriously? That's not a typical combination you would expect for a Christmas party! However, you still agreed to come to his place that night and had ended up living here ever since. Rayleigh has turned from a stranger to a good friend. Then, to a lover, and now, to your whole world. Oh, Christmas Eve really is a magical night, isn't it? Everything good happens on this holy night.
Or not, you think, looking back at your burning turkey, sighing dramatically. Remembering the past soothes your heart a bit (in other words, the thought of Rayleigh calms you down), and now you are calm enough to think of another backup option for tonight. But you don't have the chance to do anything as now Rayleigh's voice is already coming from the front door. Hurry, you run out of the kitchen to stop him in the hallway.
"The dinner is not ready yet!" You say quickly, and Rayleigh raises an eyebrow slightly at your haste.
He still hasn't changed a bit since that night, even though years have passed. Just like fine wine, this man just gets better with age.
"What happened, y/n?" His voice is still as gentle as ever and still gives you those butterflies just like day one.
"I-I burn the turkey." You admit, face burning red, "I'm sorry, I mess things up."
To your surprise, Rayleigh just let out a small "oh" with a mysterious smile.
"W-what? You don't get...mad? We have nothing to eat tonight."
Rayleigh hums, grabbing your hand and pulling you close to a warm embrace.
"It's alright, darling. Luckily, I have bought something on my way back home."
"Oh?"
"Yes. It's our traditional meal for Christmas. Can you guess what it is?"
You burst into laughter, and Rayleigh takes in how beautiful and sparkling it is.
"Don't you mean booze and bread?" You ask, still tittering.
"You like it?" He grins.
You sigh, ah, yes, it's such a silly option for Christmas; however, you still love it unconditionally. Just as much you love the man in front, even the silliest thing seems romantic with him.
"Yes. I like it. Thank you." You whisper, cupping his face to pull him into a kiss. And the moment your lips meet each other, you realize that, no, there's something that has changed.
It is his redolence. Now, Rayleigh's scent is just like...family, and when you two kiss, it makes you feel at peace, and at home. He is your homeland. When you are with him, you know you'll never be alone again.
"Welcome home, baby. I love you."

Tumblr media
It was your first Christmas Eve together, and Sanji had everything planned.
He wanted to make it perfect just for you, spending weeks before it to do research, asking you odd questions, and finding out the best present for you. Because oh, you were his whole word, of course, you deserved all the best!
Finally, the day came, and it went perfectly smooth for the first part of the day. Sanji had come to the meeting point hours earlier, checking his plan several times on the phone, and making sure everything has well set. You two had had a wonderful day together. He brought you to your dream coffee shop (where you never had the guts to come in because of the price), to the bookstore, to the cinema, basically to everywhere you’d want to. He paid attention carefully to you, and if you had a single sign of tiredness, he would know right away and offered you a rest. It was a perfect date, he was a perfect boyfriend, and everything was utterly fine. Sanji thought he could do it alright.
The Mall was the last destination for you guys before dinner.
“How do I look?”
Turning around to a softly spoken, Sanji immediately held his breath the moment you stepped out of the changing room, looking a bit shy in the new clothes. The heat slowly burned on his face, and somehow the disobedient heart didn't listen to Sanji anymore but danced wildly in his chest. Just ... wow!
He kept reminding that he must have kept himself together, but oh, you were so gorgeous! Amazing! Stunning! All the good in the world! Words might fail him as the only thing coming out of him was:
“It looks great.”
Realizing how dumb he was, Sanji tried to save it by adding quickly.
“I MEAN! You’re beautiful, y/n-swannnn!!! You are absolutely charming and uh I-”
Dammit.
You, on the other hand, didn’t seem to realize his falterings. Beaming at his words, you said gleefully as you turned around.
“Great! I’ll change it real quick and then we can go for dinner!”
As you went back to the changing room, Sanji sighed and leaned against the wall, trying to calm his heart down. Ah, it was so hard to keep cool standing next to such a wonderful person like you. Sanji knew he was always the type who loses himself and bleeds noseblood around you, but this time was a special day, and he didn’t want to ruin it.
"Hey, Sanji! I'm back!" you came back with lots of bags in both of your hands. Now that Sanji had had time to restrain himself, he offered you a hand skillfully:
"Here, let me carry them all for you."
You curled your lips, not quite agreeing.
"How can I let you carry them all? Here, just a half, so that you have one hand free!"
"One hand free for what?" He looked at you, confused.
"For holding hand!" You stated as if it was the most natural thing ever, "Don't you want to?"
His heart didn't build to take all these attacks at once, he swore. Blushing like crazy, he tremblingly grabbed the hand you were holding out, just hoping he wouldn’t have a nose bleed. It wouldn’t be cool at all. You smiled sweetly at his clumsy side.
“Ah alright! I’m hungry! Let's go find somewhere to eat."
Walking down to the street adorned in bright lights and several arrays of poinsettias, you could feel the cheery vibes brushing on your skin as you two made your way through the crowd. You hummed a happy song when swaying Sanji’s hand back and forth slightly; he noted the happy look on your face, which is a good sign.
"I have found a great restaurant for dinner." He announced, wanting to keep things smooth and perfect until the last minute.
"Oh! I'm so excited!" You replied with a warm smile that made his heart skip a beat or two at how beautiful it was. Trying to fight down the flush, Sanji reassured himself that this would be alright. Everything was on plan. No need to worry. Stay cool.
However, life was such a joke. A bad one, to be honest. Sanji bet fortune had forgotten him when you guys stood outside the restaurant, reading the sign that wrote: "The restaurant now runs out of table. Thank you! May you have a very merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year."
The blond guessed this was how it felt like when the sky was falling. If only he had ordered the table first! How could he forget!
"It's all good, Sanji! We could go around and find another restaurant!"
You squeezed his numbed hand lovingly, showing that you didn't mind it at all. Sanji however, couldn't even look into your eyes, with all the guilt and embarrassment swirling together in his stomach right now, and just obediently followed you as you two wandered around looking for another place for dinner. But of course, at a time like Christmas Eve, it was impossible to find an empty restaurant.
After checking three or four places, Sanji lost all his hope and just had to admit that his perfect plan was now ruined.
"I'm sorry." He sobered quietly, cocking his head down to avoid your gaze. They got mad; Sanji thought bitterly as he felt your hand leave his; what if they left now.
Oh no, he might want to cry... His shoulder already trembled when suddenly, there was a light and fuzzy substance feeling lingering on his collarbone, making Sanji to look up in surprise.
Hanging around his neck now was a scarf made of wool.
"Merry Christmas! It's my surprise present to you! You like it?" You chirped, smiling brightly at him.
"A present? For me?" Sanji touched the scarf, unbelieved. Warmth filled his heart as he realized it was knitted in his favorite color, with the initials of his name on it.
"Is it warm?"
"Very...Oh my God, Y/n-swan, I love it! Thank you so much! I-" He stuttered as tears now welling up in his eyes, making it harder to speak clearly.
"Aw, don't cry! I'm glad you like it!" You gently swiped all the tears on his face and added proudly. "I knitted it myself!"
"Ah, hang on, I have a present for you too!" Sanji said, quickly putting his hand on the pocket just to realize that...he forgot it!
"I left it at home!!!!" The blond cried out in disbelief. First the restaurant, now this!
To his surprise, you didn't get mad or sad; instead, you chuckled softly as if you found this was very hilarious.
"Ah, it's alright! Relax, you have been straining yourself the whole day."
You noticed? Sanji could feel his face burn in embarrassment.
"I-I want to make it a perfect date for you." Your boyfriend said shyly. You wrapped your hand around him affectionately as you stood on tiptoe to kiss his cheeks.
"And I appreciate that! Thank you, my lovely. But it's all good! Now we can come to your house and eat dinner, and I can have my gift there. How does that sound?"
"Do you fine with not eating at a restaurant for Christmas?"
"I would be fine as long as I'm staying with you, Sanji." You smiled, and at that moment, despite all the brightness around, the stars in your eyes were the only thing Sanji could see.
"Thank you," Sanji whispered.
"How about making me some hot chocolate as a thank you, then?"
"Hot chocolate is good. I'm good at making hot chocolate." He said, finally feeling like the date was going to be alright again.
Ah, so at the end of the day, the perfect date only existed as long as you guys were together. When he was with you, everything would work out fine. It was always with you.
And maybe with some hot chocolate, too!
