Just realized that the dynamic between Varré and Rigel is that they both think of each other as kind of a pet, but Varré is like a particularly feisty little dog, while Rigel is basically like a tiger Varré thought he could successfully keep for some reason

Rigel Blyhund, The Hellhound of the Lands Between. A Draconian warrior born of a Nomadic tribe a few generations after the initial banishment of Godfrey and the Tarnished from the Lands Between. As was common amongst Draconians, her initial life was short, dying at 27 before being revived by Grace thousands of years later as The Greater Will bids her to claim the mantle of Elden Lord. However, she is far from the picture of nobility. Even despite her initial fumbling as she tries to remember how to be alive again in a land that she has never been to before, Rigel is crass, rude, perverted, and underhanded, unafraid to indulge in methods that are frowned upon by others. She readily participates in Dragon Communion, as well as highly favoring blood magic.

Wielding a pair of bloodhound claws, she utilizes a quick yet hard-hitting fighting style, adhering to the philosophy of ‘hit ‘em hard, hit ‘em fast, and kill them before they can kill your’. She’s not always successful in the fights she picks, however, the patchwork of scars spanning her skin more than enough evidence to such, yet she is not deterred. Reveling in carnage and bloodshed, she’s not exactly the best person, but she’s not straight up evil either. She does feel sympathy towards the more downtrodden of the Lands Between such as the Omen and Misbegotten, especially as she interacts with people like Hewg and Boc. Base game if it were an option it’s likely she would have joined the ranks of the Haligtree.

She’s a bisexual disaster and vaguely woman-ish thing but she doesn’t really care what pronouns you use since she doesn’t strictly define her gender, so he/she/they/it/whatever is fine

In canon she is married to Ranni and very deeply devoted to her, very much playing into that ‘submissive guard dog of the princess’ role. Admittedly she feels a deep guilt about what happened to Blaidd and Iji as she considered them close friends, and mourns her own role in each of their deaths, even if everyone knew what would happen at the end of the line. I’d imagine a lot of her initial relationship with Ranni would be her unwittingly trying to fill the void left behind by their deaths, and it would take both Rigel and Ranni a lot of time to heal and form a healthy relationship, despite how much they love each other. Also Stone Top Ranni lmao

In more fanon terms I like pairing her with Morgott though, mostly because Enemies to Lovers is my kryptonite, and also because this relationship has more potential for humor.
