Elephant Man Releases Visual For "Walk Out Gyal"
Today’s National Heroes Day, and we salute those who have fought and sacrificed their lives in advancing Black people in Jamaica, and inspiring many outside of the Island to do the same for their countries. We use this time to salute our musical heroes, as many of them made efforts to put Jamaica on the map with their work for decades. One of those heroes is Dancehall Artist Elephant Man, and…

semiserious music vent
genuinely have no idea how people make memorable melodies/rhythms. ive said it before but melody is a thing i have absolutely 0 sense for. legitimately i am fucking awful at writing melodies, let alone memorable ones. this isn't just a now thing - this has been a problem my entire time making music. i made one song that was memorable, ever, or i should say 1/2 of a memorable drop because the rest of the song was just parts of the drop, and the second half was bad. ig the bridge was good too but that was just the guy's vocals vocoded. even putting in random notes leads nowhere, genuinely trying to write melodies fucking sucks. if i had a friend i really trusted, with similar styles, and actual skill in songwriting id LOVE to collab but alas, i do not, so im just dissuaded from anything other than sound design. thank god that's something that i can do with consistency for what i can do well, and a skillset i know and have been adding to. any time i try to generate just some basic rhythm it ends up being another song's, and i can never figure out what to do woth it without sounding like another song. literally any time i try making color bass (not melodic riddim, which i dislike) i just fucking rip off Parachute (Skybreak Remix), idk maybe i just need to listen to more but like. how tf do people find rhythms to work with. i just tried to think of one and IT WAS JUST ACCELERATE BY TEMINITE AND SKYBREAK it's ALWAYS ripping someone off. it feels like ever since i discovered electro my entire career is going to be based around ripping SOMEBODY off, at least doing sound designy complextro i can mix brostep and wolfgang gartner-y sounds with mild justice influence for something kind of my own, but i actually enjoy having songs with songwriting. such a shame i cannot write song

oh my god apparently after the sleng teng riddim took off there was discussion among casio management if they should sue musicians to protect their intellectual property before they decided that its kind of a dick move to sell consumers musical instruments and then take them to court when they use the instruments to make music

STRAY KIDS - "CHK CHK BOOM"
youtube
The "Livin' La Vida Loca" reference makes me wonder what we would have given "The Thong Song"...
[5.12]
Michelle Myers: Stray Kids work best with a light touch and a wink. The harder they seem to try, the more tedious the results. "Chk Chk Boom" doesn't reach their pandemic era heights, but it is their best title track since 2022's "Maniac." Changbin's gravelly, rolled r's are the highlight, but I'm also charmed the lyrics--innuendos so excessively bowdlerized that they add much needed levity. [7]
Taylor Alatorre: These variegated vignettes of boys' noise are intended to show off how wild and untamable and "catastrophic" the crew is; their apparent fear that the robo-reggaeton riddim would be incomplete without some pidgin Spanish grafted onto it tells a different story. "Livin' La Vida Loca" deserves better than to be made a proxy for "donde esta la biblioteca." [4]
Nortey Dowuona: This is dallasK's fault. (Also Bang Chan, but I expect young industry professionals to be either circumspect or self indulgent.) [1]
Ian Mathers: [watches music video] "Huh, you know, K-pop is starting to feel a bit like pop's equivalent of the MCU." [5]
Harlan Talib Ockey: My impression of Stray Kids up to now has been that the production does most of the heavy lifting, and "Chk Chk Boom" isn’t exactly proving me wrong. This warped reggaeton beat is an immediate [10]. The verses are more cohesive than, say, “God’s Menu”, and at their best (Han & Felix, 1:25-1:35) they’re genuinely delightful. I’m very tempted to deduct a few points for the agonizingly forced Deadpool & Wolverine promo, but that probably isn’t fair on Stray Kids themselves. [7]
Katherine St. Asaph: Today in US politics: NRA types are attempting to smear vice presidential nominee and avowed pheasant hunter Tim Walz as a fake and unconvincing gun guy -- in gunfucker terminology, a "Fudd." I have to assume they haven't heard Stray Kids' poseurish "rat-tat-tat-tat"s. The synth kinda sounds like Mya's "Step," though, so I can't hate it too much. [6]
John S. Quinn-Puerta: I do feel like name dropping "Livin' La Vida Loca" on a song that stutters through its rhythmic identity shouldn't work this well. But the lack of stability on the beat is half the point, forcing me to stay on my toes while I find a flow to dance to. [8]
Hannah Jocelyn: What is this trying to be? Is that a trap beat? A dembow beat? A four on the floor stomp? It's trying to be dazzling but the beat switches are indistinguishable so I'm just left confused. It just throws a bunch of shit at the wall for two minutes, trying to be zany but refusing to commit to the bit. The festival version is better because it's bland. [3]

NOW…
Some good news
I woke up this morning and heard a beat… then I heard
“Rise To The Occasion”
This is a song my Sizzla that I love. This song confirms the message we got earlier about not being able to stop you. I am sharing the lyrics and the song as I was guided to.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
What’s crazyyyyyyyy is the cover of the remix combined with other popular songs by Sizzla. Recall the LORD showed us “Name Noms” in his writing on lined paper.
Tumblr media
😱🤯😎
https://youtu.be/yZOmRjo_Z7c?si=j1NgWnfixAbhvhrW
Also the number 11
youtube
This message is for several of you 💌
I wanted to highlight the fact the LORD allowed me to hear the beat aka the riddim which is important to whoever this message is for. Why? Producers in Jamaica 🇯🇲 are often as BIG as their artists. Idk if dancehall still features several artists on one riddim but I know growing up that’s what reggae was like. DJ’s clashed on the same riddim to see who was better. It’s a hallmark of reggae that sets it apart from any other music I know.
Pray about this message for the LORD will confirm if it’s for you.
I have another message about music coming up soon as well. Bear with me.
PS. Also heard
“They can’t stop the King” 👀🤩
Go ahead with your plans babes. You have God’s approval ✅
The time is NOW‼️ticktock ⏰
PS. I am now hearing the Diwali riddim 🤩🎶💃🏾
youtube
This means something to whoever this message is from. Perhaps you are from India 🇮🇳 or have Indian roots like me!!! Or from Jamaica as well 🇯🇲 Could be from Trinidad 🇹🇹
Here is a popular song by renowned artist Sean Paul that went viral INTERNATIONALLY and the video was made in Brampton. Someone is about to blow up.
youtube
This brings back so many good memories… HOUSEPARTY.
Sean Paul was one of those reggae artists that infiltrated all genres and worked with a number of American artists. He was BIG and still is an absolute legend 🎶🇯🇲🙌🏾 Let me give him his flowers 💐

We are 100 albums down into the Rolling Stone 500 greatest albums list. I thought I might offer some thoughts so far since, quite obviously, I disagree to some extent with this stupid idiot list. The most important thing to note is that making an objective greatest albums list is futile. What criteria determine that they are the greatest? Most popular? Most influential? Most artistically valid? There are simply no criteria that are subject to the baleful whims of subjectivity. Once the subjective is embraced then making this list is easy, just put anything you like on it. But that clearly isn't what Rolling Stone wants. If it was then they would not have revised it twice. No they want to be as inclusive and diverse as possible. They want some sort of objectivity, but they are limited by their perception. The qualia of any given rolling stone editor is one in which the only mark of significance is popularity in the west, the only influence that matter is influence over white western artists. If they were to be truly honest with themselves the list would just be Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band repeated 500 times. But there is no room for honesty in the wretched hearts of music critics.
The thing that is most obvious is that, although they do mix in a few women and Latino artists, the only marker for diversity they understand is blackness. The overwhelming prominence of Motown and Stax artists on the list is so obviously the result of them simply not knowing that many black artists from outside their comfort zone. So they double dip again and again, choosing albums like Al Green's Greatest Hits and Marvin Gaye's Here My Dear. They could of course be choosing some Asian artists, J-Pop and K-pop have been very popular and influential and City Pop is even surfacing as a popular hipster genre in the west. Why ignore these? It's because they don't see any music that didn't hit the UK or US as being culturally relevant.
There is another marker for diversity though. One that I think is almost more offensive to have ignored if only because this is a music publication talking about music. Genre. Rock, prog, punk, funk, disco, pop, R&B, Hip-hop, all represented here. But there has only been one metal album and literally zero electronic music. No house, techno, drum and bass, jungle, juke, dubstep, riddim, trance, there are so many subsets of electronic music that should be represented here. Show me Jeff Mills, Juan Atkins, Carl Craig. Show me Aphex Twin, Autechre, Plaid. Orbital, The Field, Shpongle, Laurel Halo, Alec Empire! For the love of God show me anything! But what would old men who suckle upon the cock of John Lennon know of electronic music. Electronic music is fundamentally black, and it only really goes on to heavily influence other black music. The reality of all that Motown on this list is that it influences white people and is therefore valid. Keep that in mind and the list becomes easier to understand. If you see anything other than a cisgender white male artist on here then you can safely assume they must have been influencial to some other cis white guy.

BGM: Ryuichi Sakamoto - Undercooled
It was 35.7℃. Last night, I thought what records I would choose as the "desert island records" to post on Discord. This means that "what ones I would bring to the desert island to enjoy?", a classic question. Me, if I follow the current mood, I would choose Ryuichi Sakamoto and Fennesz's "condre" and Aphex Twin's "Selected Ambient Works Volume 2", etc. But I shouldn't forget Brian Eno (no, I should Eno's works to the urban situation), and also want to choose Little Tempo's "Ron Riddim". Referring to this kind of "desert island records" or like that, I never go to any desert island actually. But thinking this kind of selection is funny although it might look weird. If I choose that kind of books, I will choose Haruki Murakami's "Distant Drums" and a travelogue by Koutarou Sawaki. But I shouldn't forget Susumu Sogo's columns. It tells me that I would choose the same books wherever I go. Oh my gosh! I'm really stubborn.
This morning I still thought about this "desert island records". Maybe because by that thinking, I made a big mistake. I went to the workplace and started working at a wrong time. Of course, I should be ashamed of that. It would be from my autism so I have to reflect on how I should manage my tasks. I have to face this troublesome autism, so I have to share my failures honestly to let readers learn how an autistic person lives in his life. "An example of ordinary events from an autistic person". Oh my gosh. I am growing up? Today was so called "World Autism Awareness Day" but no one talked about this in my workplace. My co-workers don't talk about autism too. There is a difference between "common sense around me" and "common sense of my workplace". It might make me crazy because of that. But it's the real life.
I always have an obsession of "my life must end someday". Yes... but recently I read Jakucho Setouchi, a Japanese female writer, and learned from her words that "I am let by God to live this life". It would be a clue to live my life I guess. In short, "I will die someday" is a clear fact, but "I am not dying now" is also a fact. "I am let by God to live", then "I have to be dutiful to the fact and learn something from that fate". This is a change of thinking. I can never see this would work actually, but I shouldn't feel that I have a guilty to live, and also never have to feel sorrow to live this life. I live this life, so I want to enjoy the pleasure of this life.
This evening, I attended a online meeting on ZOOM. I made a fatal careless mistake and was being late to there about an hour. I am really sorry... but the host and other members welcomed me so I could enjoy the meeting. It was a lesson of English but I couldn't listen to the conversations, therefore I have to practice the skill of listening. At that time, a news that said "Ryuichi Sakamoto had passed away" came suddenly. When I began having an interest in music, the Japanese great group YMO was already broke up (but they got reunion later). So Ryuichi Sakamoto was already a "world famous" musician who worked distant from Japan. Therefore I felt a distance from him, but his essays delivered me some friendly essences so I started enjoying his music. I never am agree with all of his opinion. He showed some fatal paradoxes, and also had brutal essences. But, even I understand those things, I accept his great intelligence. Rest In Peace.
