Do you have the werlyt screenshots? 👀
This is only because I love you, Nonny.
I also took time to transcribe these under the "Keep Reading" cut, cuz this is a lot of text and cannot always be read clearly. These images were taken with my tablet. Errors in said transcript are probably just mine. These are pages 120-121 and 169-170 of Encyclopedia Eorzea volume III. The timeline's a little weird (especially the Gaius to Valens handover), but Werlyt was an Imperial province for over 50 years.
There's also pages specifically about the Weapon project and how the Garleans tried to have a system similar to soul crystals in legatus armor, but they were behind the curve on such magic-technology and so the data's incomplete (as we saw in those fights). If there's interest, I may do a follow up with those pages, but this is long enough and I have FC things to do tonight.
Werlyt
Following in the footsteps of its neighbor across the Ghimlyt Dark, Ala Mhigo, this small nation in the far western reaches of Ilsabard recently liberated itself from the Garlean Empire.
Flag: The flag originally bore the crest of the royal family. However, as their bloodline has long since run dry, and the nation now aspires to become a republic, the interim government has organized a committee to decide on a new design.
Motto: --
Government: Werlyt is presently led by an interim government. After careful deliberation, it has decided the nation will be rebuilt as a republic.
Leader: Talbot Hunte
Ruling Body: The interim government is formed of representatives from several rebel factions that fought against the Garlean Empire.
Racial Distribution:
Ilsabardian Hyur: 80%
Near Eastern Au Ra: 15%
Other: 5%
Religion: Though religion was largely discouraged under Garlean rule, the people of Werlyt were polytheistic, believing in thirteen gods. Their religious practices are said to be largely influenced by the traditions of their western neighbors in Eorzea and its teachings of the Twelve, as well as Corvosi mythology from the east.
Industry:
Livestock: The tending of cattle is a longstanding profession of Werlyt, made possible by its lush, far-reaching pastures. A knack for livestock breeding is evidenced by the myriad varieties of both beef and dairy cattle they raise, the latter including an especially rare breed said to number only one hundred.
Dairy: In tandem with their livestock industry, the people of Werlyt excel in the production of dairy products, including butter, yogurt, and milk-based beverages. They are well known for their high-quality cheeses, which became a mainstay export to Garlemald.
Fishing: The southern edge of Werlyt touches the sea, allowing for a bustling fishing trade in coastal towns. Its many steep cliffs, however, ensure their efforts are focused on but a few major ports.
Mining: In the northern mountain range of Werlyt, one can find four mines wherein copper, zinc, tungsten, and several other rare metals are extracted. The process was refined under Garlean rule with the introduction of magitek, and while the equipment remains, the country wants for the ceruleum to operate it. To that end, Werlyt has begin negotiations with Ul'dah to barter for fuel so they may resume their mining operations.
Beliefs: While the Au Ra who migrated from the Corvos region have ostensibly been welcomed in Werlyt, there yet remains a strong sense of social incohesion in this predominantly Hyuran nation. It remains to be seen if these disparate peoples can overcome their differences to flourish in this burgeoning republic.
Diet: Werlyt is perhaps best known for its stewed dishes made using local beef, dairy, and seafood. The intermingling of native wheat-based cuisines and rice dishes brought by the Au Ra also help distinguish Werlyt cooking. Dairy enthusiasts insist that milk produced in Werlyt is indispensable to strengthening one's muscles when training the body, and it is thought to be high in protein and effective in reducing muscle inflammation.
History
A Contentious Foundation
In ages past, the western reaches of Ilsabard, known today as Werlyt, were home to myriad Hyuran tribes. There was no harmony to be found between them, however--the ceaseless cycle of war and peace was no different than the changing of the seasons. Some brave few tribes thought to flee from this war-torn land, crossing the Ghimlyt Dark to pillage and plunder on Eorzean soil. They would inevitably return home, richer for their efforts, but these ventures westward would come to a halt when the leadership of Anshelm Cotter united Gyr Abania, Ala Mhigo becoming a shield from further incursion.
With dreams of pushing farther west dashed, and the Hyuran tribes growing weary of conflict, Au Ra outlanders hailing from Corvos saw this pall of languor as an opportunity. They formed an alliance with a handful of local tribes, and together they quickly subjugated the territories that would come to be Werlyt. Despite their pivotal role in its formation, however, the Au Ra would not seek the throne of this fledgling kingdom, knowing their alchemical knowledge and mastery of the mystic arts would prove no match for the sheer numbers of their Hyuran allies. Thus did they concede kingship to the Hyuran elders. With this, some Hyurs came to see the Au Ra as powerful allies, but others would continue to cruse them as ruthless invaders.
The Garlean Occupation
Unfortunately, the newly founded nation of Werlyt would not last. The advent of magitek and transformed Garlemald into a heretofore unseen military power, allowing them to take Corvos with ease and subsequently draw Werlyt under the Garlean yoke.
The province was charged with supplying foodstuffs and mineral resources to fuel the burgeoning empire, and in some ways the dissemination of magitek would prove a boon. The mechanization of mining, for example, was momentous, but any such innovations as the Garleans would bring ever remained beyond the reach of the subjugated. For thirty years the people of Werlyt toiled thus, but they would eventually be offered a glimmer of hope. The Empire had begin the second phase of its incursion into the Far Eastern territories, a campaign requiring a considerable portion of their military force. Even the occupying force in Werlyt had been greatly diminished, affording rebel factions the leverage needed to reclaim their home.
Their dreams of freedom were fleeting, however, as a young Gaius van Baelsar led imperial forces back to assault the capital of Werlyt and restore Garlean order. As the previous viceroy had been killed by the rebels, Gaius would assume command of the newly reclaimed province.
Two Sides of Governance
Reflecting on the plight of the Werlytian peoples that drove them to rebellion, Gaius, the newly appointed viceroy, well knew that drastic measures were needed to prevent a second uprising. He began by recruiting individuals he deemed competent and capable, paying no heed to their station, race, or place of origin. Indeed, no few Werlytians were sought out for their extensive knowledge of the land, serving in various bureaucratic positions. Over the next twenty years, Gaius would also oversee a more even distribution of the province's wealth; new infrastructure in the form of roads, ports, and harbors; an a compulsory education system that would substantially increase literacy rates throughout Werlyt. But the peace and order he established there was short-lived.
The invasion of Eorzea and its consequences, naturally, left van Baelsar unable to fulfill his duties in Werlyt. The man who would take his place was Valens van Varro, an otherwise unremarkable civilian who had somehow risen through the military ranks. After losing his position amidst political turmoil in the Empire, he was given command of a newly reformed VIIth Imperial Legion. The grim shadow he cast over Werlyt would undo all the good Gaius had achieved and so much worse. Forced labor, imprisonment, and executions quickly became normalcies of day-to-day living. So much so, that it was said one could only find rest under the mortician's roof.
The Treasonous Five
Rather than subjugate the enemy, Valens was satisfied with bleeding both their resources and people dry--a tyrannical approach to governance often said to be heinous even by his fellow countrymen. It was a path that would lead to ruin for the province of Werlyt. Yet despite appearances, he was an exceedingly brilliant engineer, and there was a method to his madness.
Emperor Varis had been assassinated, and as various parties vied for the throne, Garlmald's aristocracy was in the throes of chaos. That is why Valens labored to complete his Weapons project, that he might make a triumphant return to Garlemald, wielding the ultimate tool of war. He well understood the need for urgency, and was more than willing to bring ruin upon Werlyt if it meant assuring his place as emperor.
For all his genius, however, Valens remained ignorant of his coming downfall until it was too late. The orphans he intended to use as test pilots for his project were plotting to use his Weapons against him, and the fruition of their plan would bring the VIIth Legion to its knees. One must not overlook, of course, the significance of Gaius's contributions to their efforts, as well as the rebel factions that also conspired to overthrow the Garleans. Even so, it was ultimately the bravery and sacrifice of five orphans that would spell the end of Valens, and earn Welryt her freedom.
Faces of Werlyt
GAIUS BAELSAR
"I see now that true strength is not granted by others, but resides within us. Strength of character, of spirit, of resolve."
With his defeat at the hands of the Warrior of Light in Castrum Meridianum, this former legatus of the XIVth Legion realized that he had long been a mere pawn in the Ascians' plans. He swore revenge against them for his fallen comrades, taking up the mantle of Shadowhunter, and though his quest for vengeance would claim the masks of Altima and Deudalaphon, the hunt for Ascians was quickly set aside when he learned of the Empire's plans to produce the noxious weapon Black Rose.
En route to Garlemald, Gaius crossed paths with Alphinaud, forming an alliance to halt production of the deadly gas--and this was not his only unexpected encounter with the Scions. As he infiltrated the capital, Gaius chanced to meet Estinien, and together they breached the imperial palace. There, they witnessed the assassination of Emperor Varis at the hands of Zenos. The rogue prince swiftly departed, and not moments later, imperial guards found Gaius standing over the late emperor's corpse.
His relationship with his home nation soured further when he discovered the previously abandoned Weapon project had been revived by the reformed VIIth Legion, who planned to deploy their prototypes in an assault on Eorzea. Gaius set off for Ghimlyt, hoping to warn the Eorzean Alliance before it was too late. There he found the Warrior of Light at the ready--this time, to stand with him against their common for. In a tragic twist, the orphans Gaius once fostered would also be caught up in the conflict.
Now, at the age of fifty-six and with Werlyt freed from the imperial yoke, Gaius has joined hands with its interim government in efforts to restore the region.
VALENS VAN VARRO
"As they say, 'to err is human, to forgive, divine.' And you know how forgiving I can be. When it suits me..."
Legatus of the reformed VIIth Legion, Valens joined the army following the completion of his studies at the Magitek Academy. Known for his ruthless and innovative magitek-based battle tactics, it seemed nothing could stop his ascension through the ranks. Those who served under him, however, knew well his unethical practices and penchant for sacrificing allies to serve his ambitions. Moreover, despite his achievements, he never escaped the shadow of Gaius, who was ultimately chosen to command the XIVth Legion. Believing the position stolen from him, Valens developed a deep hatred for the legatus even as he toiled to recreate Ultima Weapon under Nero's direction. This selfsame spite is what inspired him to later resume work on the Weapon project, believing that, by succeeding where Gaius had previously failed, he might at last prove himself the superior military officer.
Valens has ever been a staunch believer in Garlean supremacy. This was made all too apparent by his heinous decision to use villagers from the provinces as test subjects, believing them to be expendable. In the wake of the Emperor's death, he had hoped to take advantage of the chaos in Garlemald to assume the throne, but his dreams of grandeur would remain unfulfilled. The Weapon pilots, whom he had treated with such disdain, rebelled and eventually proved his undoing. After losing in a duel against Gaius, the fifty-six-year-old Valens met his demise at the hands of the Diamond Weapon.
SEVERA SOUTHER
"All that hatred, festering away...Nothing good could ever come of it."
Daughter to a citizen of Werlyt and a Garlean soldier, Severa joined the army in the hopes of deterring those who would cast scorn on her family. Even as she served, however, the Garleans denied Severa's mother the medicine she needed to maintain her faltering health. Though Severa deserted in the wake of the XIIth Legion's defeat in Ala Mhigo, she returned to Werlyt too late to save her mother and could do little but flee once more, eventually finding herself in the company of Gaius. Now twenty-three, she can often be found offering counsel to young Allie.
VALDEAULIN GANATHAIN
"It's taken me a long time--too long--but I've finally found a reason to live for the present. For the future."
Until Ala Mhigo fell to the Empire, Valdeaulin had made his home in the Black Shroud. As the Garleans continued their expansion, he lost not only his village, but his wife and daughter as well--his family abducted as test subjects for the fatal gas known as Black Rose. He later joined the Order of the Twin Adder, intent on exacting vengeance agains the invaders. The forty-eight-year-old Duskwight would have his chance amidst the ruin of the Praetorium, where he found a wounded Gaius on the verge of death, but ultimately chose to spare the Black Wolf and aid him in his hunt for Ascians.
ALFONSE AAN BAELSAR
"If it is the duty of the strong to lead the weak, we will become strong and protect those who cannot protect themselves."
An epidemic claimed the life of Alfonse's parents when he was still a child, leaving him and his sister Allie living on the streets of Werlyt. The two were adopted by Gaius, and Alfonse soon became an elder brother to all of the children in the Black Wolf's care. Wishing to be of greater help to their adoptive father, the Auri siblings joined the military, serving in the XIVth Legion/ During Operation Archon, they remained in Werlyt on a supply mission, but were soon transferred to the VIIth Legion, where they were coerced into becoming pilots for the Weapon project. Faced with a dire situation, they plotted to take advantage of their position and use the Weapons against the Garleans to liberate Werlyt. Although inextricably fused with the core of the Diamond Weapon, Alfonse managed to kill Valens and secure a future for his home and sister both. He was twenty-one summers old at the time of his death.
ALLIE AAN BAELSAR
"The days we spent together were the happiest of my life, and no matter what happens, nothing can take that away from me."
Allie and her brother were adopted by Gaius and given the surname Baelsar. When they were reassigned to the Legion, the name caught Valens's eye, and he wasted no time in selecting them as candidates for the Weapon project.
The youngest of her foster siblings, Allie was dearly loved by them all. She wanted nothing more than to have their portrait painted together as a family, but it was not meant to be, as she alone would survive the Weapon project. Despite having experienced so much loss by the age of sixteen summers, Allie works dauntlessly at Gaius's side to realize her siblings' dream of a free and flourishing Werlyt.
REX AAN BAELSAR
"This is our way of upholding the ideals Father instilled in us. Our lives are a small price to pay for Werlyt's freedom."
Though he too was tragically orphaned, Rex's cheery disposition always brightened the spirits of his foster siblings. He cared deeply for his adoptive family, and would do anything to shield them from harm, even should it mean defying his superiors. He placed complete faith in his brother Alfonse, whom he held in particularly high regard, seeing the elder brother's dreams as his own. Tragically, the eighteen-year-old's life was cut short when he took the helm of the Emerald Weapon, his essence overwritten with combat data modeling his beloved father Gaius as he merged with the machine's core.
RICON AAN BAELSAR
"You all made me happier than I had any right to be. And now...I've finally found my purpose. I have no regrets."
Though timid by nature, Ricon would not hesitate to lay down his life to save his adopted siblings. Upon joining the XIVth Legion, his skilled hands earned him a place working under Nero to hone his skills as an engineer, and the wealth of knowledge he gained from his training was readily applied to the Weapon project once he was permitted to assist with maintenance. Although determined to help correct the mistakes of past prototypes, he well knew they lacked time to fully prepare the Sapphire Weapon. This did Ricon elect to pilot the Weapon in place of his brother Rex, and the life of another brave youth was snuffed out by the Oversoul system. He was seventeen years of age.
MILISANDIA AAN BAELSAR
"Father still needs you. Please take care of him...in our place."
One of several orphans taken in by Gaius, Milisandia had hair of crimson, though it was not always so kissed by fire. When they still lived in an orphanage, the young lady believed that Alfonse was enamored with one of the institution's matrons and, perhaps hoping to win his attention, dyed her hair the same color as the woman who captivated him. This youthful infatuation would remain unspoken unto her dying day, when she passed away aboard the Ruby Weapon at the age of only twenty summers.
AVILINA AAN HORNE
"There's a way I can make a difference. I know there is."
Ten years ago, Ternclif-born Avilina was conscripted to serve as a magitek engineer in the XIVth Legion. These she met Milisandia, and the two became close friends. After the XIVth's defeat at Castrum Meridianum, she fled back to Werlyt, but with her experience working on the Ultima Weapon, it was inevitable that she would be assigned to the Weapon project with the VIIth Legion. Though the liberation of Werlyt granted her her freedom, she still carries the guilt of having assisted with the Weapon project, knowing that it claimed the life of her one true friend.

Day 17 – Destruct
The waves crashed against the cliffs far below, sending a spray of salty water to batter the barren rocks. Fareena watched the waves with apparent interest, but her mind was elsewhere. While Werlyt was celebrating the fall of the final dreadful Weapon, there was no mistaking the sombre air to the proceedings, the bitter tears shed just as easily as the peals of joy and reunion. Such were the horrors of war, its echoes leaving families shattered and people broken like so much smashed pottery. It reminded her of Bozja, in its own sad way.
Sanda was doing what she could for the unlucky ones, hearing their stories and offering what kind words and sympathy she could. Fareena had heard a few bars from her latest piece, dubbed The Sorrow of Werlyt. A fittingly painful name for the major players involved, Fareena supposed, though a little overdramatic for her tastes. Still, Fareena was not one to linger on tragedies. A century of strife and turmoil had built up the necessary defensive mechanisms to shrug off such things. Time would not reverse its flow, no matter how desperately people begged for it. If even the mighty Alexander refused to do so, what hope did mere mortals have? A certain red-headed miqote excepted, of course. He probably cheated anyway.
Approaching footsteps interrupted Fareena’s musings. Someone else had come to admire the view. Or, more likely, to pay their respects at the memorial. Without looking back, Fareena gave a distracted wave to let the newcomer know she didn’t begrudge the interruption. There was a pause, then the footsteps continued. Fareena resisted the urge to sigh. Probably Stalwart with a laundry list of tasks still left to do.
“Apologies for the interruption,” said a very not-Stalwart voice. Baelsar. Fareena gave the man a wary glance as he came to a stop nearby, leaning against the railings and looking out to sea. The Black Wolf may have shed his old pelt, but he was still a dangerous man, and Fareena preferred to give him the wide berth he deserved where possible. Even if a certain part of her did want to examine his gunblade techniques more closely. She could learn a great deal from his hybridised style.
From the look on his face though, now was clearly not the time. Fareena had seen that look before. Lost in grief and regret. Feeling the full weight of his mistakes more than ever. Four children lost to the flames of war and hate, so many more dead or enslaved by a cruel empire he gladly expanded. A lifetime of achievements and valour spent in favour of immortal puppetmasters. Gaius looked less like a seasoned military leader and more like a broken old man. For a moment, Fareena felt a spark of true pity for him.
“I still keep expecting to hear them.” Gaius’s voice was quiet, soft, totally without his usual undertone of calm and authority. “Rex will say something hotheaded and foolish, which Milisandria will retort with some cutting remark. Ricon will choose Rex’s side, of course, and it will be up to Allie and Alfonse to act like parents and talk sense into them all.” Gaius shook his head, rubbing his eye with a bandaged hand. “I should be thankful. I still have Allie.” Such a faint, ill-fitting silver lining to a storm cloud of pain.
Fareena kept her silence, digesting the man’s grief with all the dignity she could muster. Gaius took it the wrong way, straightening. “Of course, you don’t want to hear an old wolf’s ramblings. Not after what you and yours have been put through by my hand.” He turned to leave the way he came.
“Stay.” Fareena’s voice rang out before she could stop herself. Gaius stopped in his tracks, turning. He didn’t quite believe she’d said it either. “Stay,” she repeated, voice firmer now. “Talking will help.” She didn’t quite know why she was extending this olive branch to a man who all-too-recently had threatened everything she held dear. She just knew it was right to do it.
Gaius relented, heavy footfalls taking him back to the railing as if drawn there by some invisible force. He turned his head to look at her, questioning. Fareena had no answer for him, just more questions. “How did you find them, the first time?”
Gaius paused a moment, then spoke. “It was several days after Werlyt handed us its terms of surrender.” His eyes took on a faraway look, memories taking him away. “We were touring Terncliff, ostensibly to show the people we meant them no harm. In reality, we were hunting for the last few pockets of resistance. There was crying, down one of the alleys. Rhitahtyn tried to stop me, brave lad. He didn’t want to see me get hurt in some foolish resistance counter-attack. Instead, I found children. Four staring back at me with fire in their eyes, one cradling the fifth. Poor Allie couldn’t hold back her tears.” Gaius sighed softly, but a small smile curved his lips. “I took them in shortly after that, gave up my quarters, tried to find their families.” A shadow of pain crossed his face again. “All dead. Fighting my legion. I did what I could for them, tried to find them new homes, but they’d decided already. It was me or nothing.”
Fareena nodded. She hadn’t known the children as anything more than adversaries, but their stubbornness was practically a defining trait. “Sometimes family chooses you,” she murmured. “Despite your best efforts.” Gaius scoffed, looking back out to sea.
“That it does,” he muttered. “That it does.”
The pair lapsed into silence after that, staring out at the brilliantly blue waves. Gaius, lost in his memories. Fareena, content to let him stew. Neither of them noticed the Au Ra girl watching them both, hand to her chest. Allie thought for a moment, then chose not to interrupt. How long had it been since either of the pair had a moment of peace? It would be cruel to interrupt.
Fareena had lost track of time when Gaius finally spoke up, tearing her eyes away from the approaching clouds. “Why?” A simple question with such crushing weight behind it. “You should hate me, for all I’ve done to you. Why let me stay here in the first place?”
It took Fareena several moments to finally respond. “I don’t know,” she said, choosing honesty over honeyed words. “Perhaps you’re right. Perhaps I should hate you. But was it your hand that razed my homeland to the ground? Was it your order that turned the shining crown jewel of Bozja into a smoking wasteland? No. You have done terrible things, ordered terrible deeds to be committed in your name. Arashi will never forgive you for the Waking Sands.” Fareena let the words hang for a moment. “But I am not her. Just a tired old woman speaking to a tired old man, both trying to make sense of a broken world.”
It felt freeing, letting the words out. Letting the inner conflict she had felt over the days and weeks of clashing with the Weapons finally resolve into clarity. Letting the past remain in the past, so that a new beginning could finally… begin. Letting go. Fareena looked at Gaius and saw the understanding in his eyes. Black Wolf, Nightmare of Bozja, Warrior of Light. All poorly fitting titles. All confining those that wore them, choking out the person beneath. Time to let a few be scattered to the wind, so that they might be their real selves once again. If only for a little while.

Resistance Officer’s Reports
For anyone who doesn't want to have to go in-game just to read the reports about the Werlyt kids, I have compiled them here for your viewing pleasure.
Milisandia
Name: Milisandia Pilot of the Ruby Weapon. All other information regarding the subject was gained via verbal testimony of Gaius Baelsar, and must therefore be considered as potentially unreliable.
Her parents were killed when their homeland in the imperial territory of Werlyt was struck by an epidemic. She was later taken into the care of Gaius, along with several other orphans.
She was despondent and introverted at first, but through the guidance of Alfonse, the eldest of the orphans, she grew to become more assertive and self-assured.
Little is known of how she came to pilot the Ruby Weapon. According to Gaius, her emotional attachment to Alfonse may have been what compelled her to participate in this dangerous mission.
The report delivered by Cid Garlond following the preliminary examination of the Ruby Weapon’s remains states that Milisandia’s body was fused with its core, with no vital signs detected. Estimated age at time of death: 20 years old.
Ricon
Name: Ricon Pilot of the Sapphire Weapon. All other information regarding the subject was gained via verbal testimony of Gaius Baelsar.
Born and raised in Werlyt until his parents died in an epidemic, after which he was taken into the care of Gaius in an imperial orphanage.
Though he lacked the physical prowess of his peers, his high degree of dexterity made him ideally suited to maintaining equipment and similar tasks.
Even after joining the military, he remained shy and withdrawn. However, on occasion where the safety of his friends was threatened, he would not hesitate to defend them.
He later replaced the pilot of the Sapphire Weapon, fellow orphan Rex, and was absorbed by the Weapon’s core upon activating Oversoul. Estimated age at time of death: 17 years old.
Rex
Name: Rex Pilot of the Emerald Weapon. All other information regarding the subject was gained via verbal testimony of Gaius Baelsar.
This former civilian of Werlyt was orphaned at a young age when an epidemic killed his parents. He was later fostered by Gaius and was raised alongside several others in an imperial orphanage.
He was known for being extroverted and outgoing, and his lack of restraint often made him the center of attention.
However, this was accompanied by an explosive temper, and he would often confront those he thought were threatening his foster siblings, with little regard for rank or social status.
He later joined the Weapon Project to support his foster brother Alfonse. His final mission was to pilot the Emerald Weapon, which ended with becoming fused with its core and perishing shortly after. Estimated age at time of death: 18 years old.
Alfonse
Name: Alfonse The following regarding the subject was gained via verbal testimony of Gaius Baelsar.
A civilian of Werlyt whose parents died in an epidemic. He and several other children were later taken into the care of Gaius.
As the most senior of his group of orphans, he took his role as their older brother very seriously. His only known blood relative, his younger sister Allie, was among them.
Gaius had instilled in him the belief that all within the Empire must be treated fairly, regardless of race or background. Following his foster father’s disappearance, Alfonse sought to protect the victims of prejudice, such as that faced by his compatriots.
In an attempt to prise Werlyt free of the Empire’s grasp, he planned to claim the Diamond Weapon for himself. However, it was his sister Allie who was chosen as its pilot.
Alfonse was instead fused with its core. The process was irreversible and he is considered to have perished. Estimated age at time of death: 21 years old.
Allie
Name: Allie Pilot of the Diamond Weapon. All other information regarding the subject was gained via verbal testimony of Gaius Baelsar.
Born in Werlyt and fostered by Gaius after her parents were killed in an epidemic.
Ever since first entering the orphanage, she was extremely withdrawn and averse to any sort of confrontation. She clung constantly to Alfonse, her older brother by birth.
When he and several other orphans attempted to win the freedom of their compatriots at the cost of their own lives, they did not include Allie in their plans. After learning the truth, she tried to rescue Alfonse by taking control of the Diamond Weapon.
Once she was inside the cockpit, she discovered that Alfonse had been fused with its core, and that he was beyond salvation. She has yet to recover from the trauma she suffered that day.
Allie is currently undergoing treatment in Terncliff at the orders of Gaius. She has been awarded the Medal of Independence by the new government of Werlyt. Age at time of incidents described: 16 years old.

Garlean Soldier AU Brainworms
BECAUSE PEOPLE KEEP ENCOURAGING ME AND I GOT A COTDAMN SHIP OUT OF IT.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
After the Garleans invaded the Angura settlement and nearly wiped out the tribe save for a few stragglers that tried escaping, Shuri did not travel far in her attempt to escape before literally falling at the feet of Gaius van Baelsar. Taking pity on the Au Ra, Gaius took Shuri in as a ward along with the other orphans.
Being older when Gaius took her in as his ward, Shuri did not grow up from tender childhood with the other wards; however, they accepted her warmly, considering her as a sister. While becoming close with the other wards, Shuri became especially protective to Allie and grew rather close with Alfonse.
Milisandia, Rex, Ricon, and Allie often teased Shuri that Alfonse didn’t see her as a “sister” and had a crush on her, much to Alfonse’s embarrassment. Despite this bout of playfulness, Shuri does not have as much devotion to Gaius and his ideals as her fellow wards, having witnessed Garlean brutality firsthand.
While swearing to join the Garlean military, Shuri became more outspoken on behalf of her fellow wards and even those who are younger. When Gaius defected and Valens took the Auri wards under him for them to pilot the Weapons, Shuri has stepped in when Valens would beat Allie, often times being beaten in Allie’s stead much to Allie’s indignation and Alfonse’s anger.
After a beating, Alfonse would often scold Shuri for turning Valens’ anger onto her, even saying that she should let him protect her. It was the closest slip that came to Alfonse confessing his feelings toward Shuri--something she caught by the way he worded his statement. Shuri responded that she can handle herself and if it meant she can protect him and the others, then she’d take the beatings.
Valens instead had Shuri out in the field instead of potentially piloting a weapon, which made it much more unbearable when it came to Alfonse’s concern for her. While the other wards were highly aware of his feelings for the Xaela, having her out in the field meant she was in constant danger. Shuri, to her credit, managed to complete her assignments within her physical capabilities, returning for a brief reprieve. It was during this reprieve that Shuri and Alfonse grew closer, having a heart-to-heart in regards to their feelings with each other.
During the Sorrow of Werlyt line, with each Weapon being destroyed and its pilot slain, Shuri and Allie were both left in the dark in what the true nature of Oversoul was. Allie was angry at not knowing; Shuri was furious. While Shuri knew why the sacrifice was important to Alfonse, she didn’t approve the method to get there--especially at the expense of their family.
Even after the Alliance found Shuri and Allie after Alfonse had Rex put them in a holding cell and reuniting with Gaius, while Allie was glad to see him, Shuri still harbored distrust for him.
Like Allie, Shuri is making it her goal to save Alfonse before he pilots the Diamond Weapon.

A bit late but this is a scenario I've been thinking of - mostly in the context of a modern AU, but i figured it'd be ok for this too LOL
Werlyt Auri: Time to get SPOOPY! Gaius: Makoh'to, what is "spoopy"? Should I be worried that the children want to "get spoopy"? Makoh'to: It's a cute way to say "spooky"! Do you want some candy?

Ghosts of Werlyt
So @chysgoda alerted me to this, since I admittedly haven’t been back to Terncliff since finishing the weapons storyline cuz...yeah. Anyway.
In a continuous loop between Sunrise and Sunset (not during nighttime hours), you can find a little raen boy running through the square, until he stops to hide in a little garden not far from the Memorial.
3 more raen children--2 boys and a girl--soon come running through the square looking until they find the first boy.
They have a short conversation before running off to play more, though the first boy pauses to look out toward the memorial.
(more images and the transcription of the conversation under the cut)
Alfonse: They’ll never find me here! Rex: Found you! Alfonse: I was so sure this was the best hiding place! Milisandia: We knew we’d find you in the end. Ricon: Where would we be without our big brother? Milisandia: She’s the only one left! Ricon: She’s the youngest...but maybe the cleverest. Alfonse: She’s with Father. Rex: Then we’ll carry on playing with just the four of us! Alfonse: I told her to stay with him. Alfonse: She can come and play with us later. Much later... Alfonse: Even when we’re apart, we’ll always be together.
Allie and Gaius remain at the Memorial overlooking the sea, not far from Ghost-Alfonse’s hiding spot, and where he looks to at the end of the sequence.
---
(Milisandia's appearance has changed in various flashbacks and visions throughout the storyline.)

the heights of terncliff (the heights of grief)
the salty winds over terncliff leave a bitter taste in hallura's mouth
(gaius van baelsar & warrior of light)
[read it here on ao3]
!!! please read before continuing !!!
hi! this is my first time posting my writing on tumblr, so bear with my formatting lol...i just wanted to leave a note about the content of this little fic! hallura has a lot of complex feelings about gaius, a lot of complex negative feelings about him. he's taken a lot from her and until now has shown little to no remorse for the actions he took against her people and family - this fic focuses on the anger that she feels towards him, and doesn't pull punches about how terrible the stuff he did was. i'm not out here to hate on anyone's favorite npc! i just wanted to explore the pain that sorrows of werlyt definitely aroused for hallura's character, and this is how she feels! if this isn't your cup of tea that's totally okay!
with that being said, if you're interested in finding out more...read on! “You had a vision, then?” Gaius’ voice is unreadable.
Hallura opens her eyes, recovering from the dizziness of the Echo. She blinks twice, mouth turning down in a grimace. “Yes.”
Gaius does not look at her. “Who was it?”
She furrows her brow. “Ricon. Someone named Ricon.”
Beside her, Gaius lets out a sound, somewhere between an anguished sigh and a groan. “Ricon..? You’re certain?”
“Positive.” Hallura pauses, before adding quietly, “He sent himself to be cannon fodder to protect his brothers and sisters.” Her voice is almost drowned by the sounds of the Ironworks ships retrieving the ruined Sapphire Weapon from the sea, and the ocean wind sweeping over the walls of Terncliff.
“I see.” Hallura sees Gaius tighten his bandaged fist, strained muscles clenching through the wrapping. “He deserved better.”
They all deserved better, lingers unspoken in the air. Silence falls, and the two of them stand and watch as one of the Ironworks technicians breaks into the cockpit of the Sapphire Weapon.
There’s a sharp hiss of air, followed by shouts as the Ironworks engineers scurry to retrieve the pilot and any data they can get their hands on. Hallura wonders what became of Ricon once he activated the Weapon’s oversoul. She pities him.
As the scene plays out, Gaius exhales, long and slow. Hallura knows that sound - she knows what it means, and her entire body floods with anger.
Before he can completely turn away, she grabs him by the arm, never once moving her gaze from the Sapphire Weapon.
“Warrior?” Gaius does not attempt to pull away from her grip, but she feels him tense beneath her fingers.
“I want you to watch,” she says, and the words weigh heavy in her mouth.
He stops breathing.
“Turn around and look,” Hallura commands, low and dark. “I want you to look.”
When Gaius hesitates to listen, she tightens her fingers, enough to make him wince. “Do not make me move you myself, Gaius.”
He goes limp, shoulders sagging, before resigning himself to her demand. As he turns to face the sea once more, Hallura lets go of him.
“You would lay me low like this?” Gaius chuckles despondently; she can hear the pain in his voice.
The Ironworks team extracts a white glob - a terrible, misshapen something. Hallura watches as one of the engineers leans over the airship’s edge to vomit.
She thinks she might be sick, too.
“I would have you see the truth,” she rasps instead, forcing down the taste of bile. “The truth that you’ve blinded yourself to all these years.”
Gaius remains silent. Hallura does not wait for him to reply.
“I always wondered what kind of man could do the things you did,” she says, shaking. “How could someone be so certain his cause was just that he would force it onto the lives of others, even if it meant crushing those people to dust? How could someone treat a precious few with such favor and dignity, while strangling their siblings with his other hand?”
Not even the salty breeze can disguise the smell of something rotting from across the bay.
“Your point, Warrior.” Hallura isn’t sure if Gaius is crying, but the waver in his voice makes her wonder. If he is...the thought fills her with vicious vindication.
“You don’t see the people you claim to love,” she spits out, eyes beginning to burn. “You never have. You stole children from their homes, from families that loved them, you crushed their histories and turned them into little toy soldiers, and you believed you loved them because they made you proud.”
“The children were orphans,” Gaius begins, voice half to breaking.
“I’m not talking about your children,” Hallura snaps, cutting him off. “I’m talking about all the children. Every child whose lands you trampled, every child that you told would only be worthy if they served your monstrous empire, an empire that wanted them all dead. And you turned your eyes away when they died, for you!”
She takes a step forward, placing one hand on the sea wall and pointing out to the Sapphire Weapon with the other. “Look at him!” she snarls, glaring into Gaius’ face. “Look at the boy you killed. Does it hurt you? Did it hurt to see Milisandia the same way?”
In the dim moonlight, a single tear tracks its way down Gaius’ cheek.
“I hope it does,” Hallura continues, eyes brimming with tears of her own. “I hope it breaks you. Suddenly your empire is real for you, but it’s been real for me - for us,” she adds, pointing again towards Ricon’s corpse, “ - our whole lives. You spent years tearing families apart, only believing yourself above the destruction because the tragedy never touched you. Now your family tears itself apart, and you have only yourself to blame.”
The tears spill over, and Hallura wipes her eyes angrily against her shirt sleeve. Having found an outlet at last, her long-buried bitterness digs its teeth into her heart, and she trembles at its strength.
“You speak as though you know the pain yourself,” Gaius says gruffly, and Hallura squeezes her eyes shut.
“Of course I do,” she scoffs, grief roiling in her breast. “You did the same thing to my sister.”
“You...had a sister?”
“Have,” Hallura exhales sharply, pouring her faith into the word. “I have a sister. She became one of your damned child soldiers when she was barely old enough to hold a sword.”
“...and what became of her?” His question lances right through Hallura’s heart.
“I don’t know.” She turns away from Gaius. “We fought during the battle of Rhalgr’s Reach. And again at Castrum Abania. After that...she disappeared. The leader of the Skulls said she’d been taken to the Garlean homeland. She said...she said my sister chose to go.”
The silence is pregnant with questions. Gaius asks only one.
“What was her name?”
“Would you even remember her if I told you?” Hallura asks accusingly, before letting out a hollow laugh and stepping away. If he cannot recall her name by face - a face Hallura shares - then it’s hopeless. “It doesn’t matter, in the end. You poisoned her mind, just like all the others. But I won’t let her die like them.”
She brushes past him, determined not to let him see her cry again.
“Her name.”
His voice is firmer this time, and in it, Hallura thinks she can hear the beginning of a new resolve.
She shuts her eyes.“Somaya. Her name is Somaya.” She casts a glance over her shoulder. “Remember it this time.”
Past the whisper of her boots against the cobblestone streets, Hallura hears Gaius murmur, “I swear that I will.”

Muses
Rex Baelsar (wiki)
Milisandia Baelsar (wiki)
Ricon Baelsar (wiki)
Important Notes:
Each muse is aged appropriately to the end of the current in-game timeline. (20, 21, and 18, respectively). nsfw sexual content will be highly selective and will not be accepted with muns or muses that are under the age of 18.
This blog is 100% canon divergent - in that Milisandia, Ricon and Rex all survive the Sorrow of Werlyt questline and were able to be saved even after activating the Oversoul. These kids deserved better.
