In the Eye of the Tornado: Rethinking the Limits of Design Copy
In celebration of Women’s History Month, March Object of the Day posts highlight women designers in the collection.
As design director for her alma mater, Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, from 1991 to 1996, designer and artist Rebeca Méndez (b. 1962, Mexico City; active Los Angeles) played a key role in re-envisioning the school’s visual identity.[1] From event posters and program advertisements to course catalogs, Méndez experimented with innovative layouts, characterized by translucent layers, the illusion of depth, and organic transitions.[2] During her tenure, she and her staff produced over 300 projects a year, all of which were intended to embody a spirit of “transition,” echoing the institution’s shifting cultural identity. This translated into designs that, in critic Veronique Vienne’s words, developed a “fractured, hybrid and deliberately non-linear visual language.”[3] The posters and publications often foster close looking through their use of distorted text and evocative photographs which flow fluidly from one plane into the next. At the helm of a re-design for a school of design —no small task—Méndez understood the importance of stretching and re-configuring the discipline’s boundaries, thereby drawing attention to the full potential of typography, digital production, and book design.
This poster for the Environmental Design department, produced in collaboration with Tara Carson, was intended to attract potential students to the program. Its dynamism pivots around the tornado-like element at center, which is composed of a variety of found and natural materials, reminiscent of a bird’s nest. Juxtaposed with the architectural models at the bottom left, these scrounged supplies hint at the program’s focus on blending nature and technology to create sustainable structures. To endow the poster with energy, Méndez and Carson relate all other elements of the composition to the twirling focal point, from the undulating headline, which emulates the revolving motion, to the colored planes and text passages, which gesture back towards the center. On the poster’s lively play with depth, Méndez explains, “We created the typographic headline from one plane stretching almost beyond its capacity to make contact with another plane and be forever altered. In the tension created between the severity of an x and y axis grid and the ethereal depth of the z axis is where we hit formal design bliss.”[4] From its animated quality to its intimation of three-dimensionality, this poster exemplifies Méndez’s approach to revitalizing the Art Center College of Design’s brand, a look that she credits with shaping her own design identity as a then-emerging professional. The poster’s topic, moreover, parallels Méndez’s interest in the environment and the natural world, themes which animate her current design practice through her studio, Rebeca Méndez Design (fd. 1996), as well as her ongoing artistic ventures.

5 Ways to Know if You Should Upskill to BIM- 71
Since BIM is still an upcoming technology yet to be fully embraced in the AEC industry, architecture colleges are still not investing enough in exposing students to BIM. Having little idea (and many misconceptions) about what BIM actually is and the ways in which it could be helpful for architects and engineers, many people believe that BIM is not right for them.
This feeling largely emerges from a fear of the unknown - switching to BIM sounds like a scary, monstrous task and we are not ready to get out of our comfort zones yet. However, if you’re still curious about whether learning BIM is the right path for you, here are some insights that could help you make your decision!
Here are some ways to tell if BIM technology will be the right fit for your interests and design process.
You like your projects running in an organized     manner and on schedule.
With a schedule in place, BIM allows you to set targets and monitor each stage of the construction process. Since the schedule is shared with all stakeholders of the project, it limits the need for constant site update calls, exchange of numerous emails and just time wasted in coordination!
You don’t like putting in hours of clerical work     when you could be doing something constructive.
A lot of us step into architecture thinking we will get to be creative and design stuff. Guess what? Most architects just spend their days drafting CAD drawings, reviewing working drawings, and then making sections, elevations and 3D renders of the same.
By incorporating BIM, you can invest your time in detailing one master model, which can then be used to export most of the other drawings and renders you need. You don’t have to waste time repeatedly making different drawings of the same thing! Also, did we mention that updating the master model can also make the required changes in your BOQ and costing estimate?
Read: BIM Global Growth Rate: What Is The Scope of BIM In The Future?
You prefer smooth coordination over unnecessary     meetings.
Meetings with consultants and vendors are sometimes very necessary to ensure that the design intent and technical details are well coordinated. But then sometimes, there are meetings about things that do not need human intervention in the age of technology! You can let the software detect any clashes in the services and communicate the results to your consulting engineers.
BIM allows for cloud-based coordination, which means that the master model of the project is shared with all stakeholders of the construction process. You don’t need to spend time explaining and discussing minor updates that they can access for themselves!

You are agile in adapting to change and not afraid     to embrace new technologies.
The construction industry may be slow to adapt to change, but in today’s world, change is inevitable. If you are an ambitious, dynamic individual who likes to keep up with the latest and most advanced techniques in your industry, learning BIM is a great way to upskill!
Currently, the supply of architects well-versed with BIM in is less than the market demand, which is also the reason BIM architects bag higher salaries than typical architecture graduates! A lot of young architects have not been agile in embracing this change, yet big firms are constantly on the lookout to expand their BIM teams.
Harnessing the power of technology can not just help you get a better job, it will also help you get better at your job. At the end of the day, the role of an architect is to design a building in the most energy-efficient, fast and budget friendly manner. BIM will help you just that!
Read: Top 7 Places to Learn BIM (Building Information Modelling) in India
You want to work on large-scale projects in top     firms around the world.
Due to the shortcomings of the traditional construction methods, top firms such as Zaha Hadid Architects, BIG, Perkins Eastman etc. have started to adopt BIM in their design process. For large-scale projects, most firms have completely shifted to BIM for the advantages it lends to the smooth execution of a project.
If you want to work in any such firm in the near future, you will need to have the necessary skill set to be able to apply!
Read: How Harsha Vinjam became the Sustainability & BIM Lead at Cooper Carry (USA)
BIM is not just a fancy word indicating the use of complicated softwares, it is a process that makes design and execution faster, more efficient and more organised. If you are someone who likes to constantly adapt to the changing needs of the market, and would like to work in top AEC firms around the world, you don’t need to ask more questions- BIM is for you!
If you are looking for a BIM course that prepares you for real world application and makes you industry-ready within a few months of intensive learning, the Oneistox BIM and Revit Professional course is for you!
It is a comprehensive 24-week (6-month) online certified programme curated by the Oneistox team and a panel of 10+ BIM professionals working at senior positions at A-lister organisations of the industry like Cooper Carry, BIG, Willow, Prota, RSP.

Lynn Davis: On Ice presents a selection of photographs from the artist’s longstanding engagement with the icebergs on the sea outside of Ilulissat, a small town on the edge of a glacier off the west coast of Greenland. Developed over the course of six expeditions that began in 1986, Davis’s photographs evidence strong affinities with the spare geometry of minimalist sculpture and track the dramatic transformation of the natural environment.
As the Glass House commemorates its 10th year as a site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the exhibition additionally celebrates Davis’s friendship with David Whitney and Philip Johnson, both of whom collected the artist’s work.

Her first client was Philip Johnson – architect of the celebrated Glass House (1949) in New Canaan, Connecticut – who commissioned her to design the lettering and signage for the iconic Seagram Building.
The two forged an important bond that resulted in a variety of projects for the Glass House, Yale University, and Lincoln Center, among others. As a painter, Lustig Cohen developed a hard-edged style in the 1960s and 1970s that asserted the canvas’ flat surface. She continued to experiment with bold colors, linear patterning, and abstract shapes in a variety of media including collage and three-dimensional objects.
Following a 2015 exhibition of the artist’s early paintings and graphic design at the Glass House, Pierre-Alexis Dumas, artistic director of Hermès, met the artist at her Manhattan home and conceived of a scarf based on her painting Centered Rhyme (1967). Pierre-Alexis and Elaine discovered a deep intellectual and philosophical connection while touring her remarkable personal collection of eclectic art and artifacts, including ancient printed silks.
The project was made in collaboration with the Glass House, a site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, that in alignment with Hermès values is dedicated to the promotion of cultural and architectural preservation, artistry and craftsmanship.
The limited-edition Hermès 90cm x 90cm silk twill design, $395.00, will be presented in Lustig Cohen’s original coloration; crème/jaune/rose, and sold at the Glass House Design Store and Hermès boutiques.

Top 10 Places to Visit in USA
The top 10 places to visit in USA are determined by people's votes. The U.S. is certainly a country of 50 States covering a vast stretch of North America, from the Pacific Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico. Major Atlantic Coast cities are New York, a world finance and cultural hub, and capital Washington, DC, and along the West Coast, California's Los Angeles is famous for its artistic and film industry.
Midwestern metropolis Chicago is recognized for its architecture and in the west, Los Angeles is infamous for its thriving entertainment industry. ― scrimping and gambling, it seems, has not deterred!
Tumblr media
Where does your top ten to visit in USA begin and end?
For most, it starts at Disneyland. It is the crown jewel of all American theme parks and this crown is not without reason. A trip to Disneyland will rejuvenate and revitalize you, while at the same time opening your eyes to the world. Here, people of all ages and walks of life can experience the magic of this timeless amusement park.
This is an institution by itself. The Hall of Presidents, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Liberty Bell, the Statue of Liberty and other landmark landmarks are an impressive display of the US. Of course, these attractions wouldn't be of as much interest if not for the entertainment and dining facilities available. The Merlion, a restaurant located in Downtown Disney's Magic Kingdom, is one of the best restaurants in the entire world. You can visit www.top10forus.com for more details.
Another must-visit is Walt Disney World. With its amazing assortment of entertainment options and its wonderful landscaping, it is also a place that offers respite from the hum drum of everyday life. The Magic Kingdom is also a great place to shop.
The Discovery Kingdom offers a great collection of toys, souvenirs and garments. The Animal Kingdom is also a great destination for animal lovers as you can watch different creatures such as elephants, monkeys, zebras and various other exotic animals frolic in their natural habitat.
One cannot talk about fun and relaxation without mentioning the Casa Natal Museum. Established in 1963, the museum showcases some of the finest achievements made by the people of Mexico.
It also features a replica of the famous Chichen Itza, the ruins of which are an amazing sight to behold. The dinosaur section allows enthusiasts to see the true size of these prehistoric creatures. There are also plenty of educational activities organized here.
For those who want to get away from it all, The W.H. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is the perfect destination for them. Besides featuring some of the music icons, this place is also a virtual haven for music fans as they can listen to old albums, buy memorabilia and even attend live performances.
It is also worth mentioning that this place hosts a number of musical events throughout the year including musical recitals, concerts and other events.
Every visitor to The Cavern Club wishes to be here the moment he steps foot into the place. This is definitely a place for all music lovers. Aside from being one of the top ten places to visit in usa,
The Cavern Club is also known for being one of the most expensive nightclubs in Las Vegas. Even though the prices charged here are high, it is still worth every penny because of the excellent service and the exclusive experience offered here.
If you want to experience a complete party environment, The Las Vegas Hotels Las Vegas offers one of the best Las Vegas nightlife events in the month of January. For lovers of rock, folk music and traditional dancing, this is one of the top ten places to visit in usa. BIM or Building Information Modeling is quickly becoming the norms in the construction world, and Revit is arguably the best application software for BIM. If you want to learn BIM, there is a good easy Revit BIM course from GoPiller Academy. It is the Revit BIM Architecture Introduction Course, as found here: https://www.gopillaracademy.com
What is the easy Revit BIM course?
According to GoPiller Academy, "This is an introductory course in Revit BIM, a two-hour module that gives a general overview of the functioning of the famous software for modeling in BIM, Revit by Autodesk.
"The course deals with theoretical topics (meaning of BIM, differences between CAD design and BIM design), as well as practical topics (how the Revit interface works, explanation of the families, the basic units of design with this software).
"The BIM method, or the digital representation of physical and functional characteristics of a facility, is a cutting-edge design method, which minimizes errors and maximizes efficiency in design. For these reasons it will be increasingly adopted in the future, the USA, UK and Northern Europe have already adopted it since many years, and it will grow to play an even more crucial role in building documentation in the future.

Why is it necessary to implement BIM in India?
India is amongst one of the world’s most populated countries that is set on an extensive path of health, financial, and infrastructural development. Amidst this, the need to design and build with speed, efficiency, and green is a need of great importance as the population is drastically increasing, and our country is struggling to maintain the demand and supply of basic necessities such as a pucca house. With a flood of the populace to arrive at more than 1.3 billion by 2025, it requires the selection of BIM (Building Information Modeling) to build new structures, offices, and foundations. Also, there is a critical need to redesign and revamp existing ones to be sustainable for longer timeframes.
Developed countries like the USA, the UK, France, the UAE, etc., have made it obligatory for project managers to design and build any infrastructure, whether it is a residential project or commercial, by undertaking BIM practices. Why? Well, BIM acts as a technological tool that brings together all the information and helps in enabling critical construction work processes, which rewards by lowering cost, improving efficiency, reducing rework, enhancing turnaround time, greater sustainability, green building, less wastage, and so forth.
Today, only 10-18% of the Indian AEC companies have adopted BIM management in their processes. However, soon the statistics will improve and the need to train designing students and existing staff on Advanced BIM Training. This preparation involves people learning the workmanship and aptitudes of utilizing Primary and Secondary programming like Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, Bluebeam, and so on. Interested candidates will be expected to learn Revit, as the software is utilized as a BIM creating an instrument to fabricate 3D models dependent on constant articles and data, while Navisworks is utilized for conflict recognition, walkthroughs, cost-assessment, booking, and that is just the beginning.
Building Information Modeling tools allows AEC companies to create accurate project outputs to win bidding proposals. Not just this, but BIM also helps every stakeholder to communicate and collaborate on different construction trades such as Architecture, Structure, MEP, and FP on the same platform. In India, the advantages of using BIM have not yet got the attention it requires. However, soon the government is picking its pace to leverage the full potential of BIM – as it can help save over 20% of the total cost of a project while also reducing timelines and enhancing workflows.
The construction and development authorities in India have recognized the benefits of BIM, wherein it can fix issues through informed and strategic decision making processes. Apart from metro cities, the adoption of BIM in India is yet horizontal, which means that there is a great need to design, manage and execute thousands of miles of highways, transportation infrastructure, etc., which requires to use BIM to its full potential.
Apart from the adoption of BIM in construction processes, India needs to radically evolve to cater to the ever-growing demand of the AECO sector, and it is only possible if we move towards digital processes, tools and automation, and leverage advanced technology such as drones (UAVs), robotics, AR/VR, AI, and so forth can help AEC firms to augment the power of BIM to deliver projects efficiently.
Fact: With more than 95 airports, more than 15 million homes, and about 8000 railway stations to be modernized, the need of the Government and AEC firms to implement BIM modeling needs to be obligatory at higher BIM levels viz. level 2 and level 3.
Conclusion:
In the current construction industry scenario, there is a massive gap between project management, collaboration, communication, and project stakeholders. To achieve urbanization perpetually, India will require adopting BIM in maximum capacity to associate different frameworks productively. BIM Technology can be used to drive & simulate projects efficiently, as it is the taxpayer’s money that goes into building infrastructure for the country.
The rise in demand for skilled AEC professionals has created a gap that requires to be filled instantaneously. The industry provides excellent growth opportunities and even greater financial stability, as the construction sector will continue to evolve, and the demand for experienced and expert BIM managers will never cease to exist.

In the Eye of the Tornado: Rethinking the Limits of Design
This translated into designs that, in critic Veronique Vienne’s words, developed a “fractured, hybrid and deliberately non-linear visual language.”[3] The posters and publications often foster close looking, through their use of distorted text and evocative photographs, which flow fluidly from one plane into the next. At the helm of a re-design for a school of design —no small task—Méndez understood the importance of stretching and reconfiguring the discipline’s boundaries, thereby drawing attention to the full potential of typography, digital production, and book design.

Software Engineering Diploma Course in Bannu islamabad – Islamabad3035530865 Software Engineering Diploma Course in Bannu islamabad , Software Engineering Diploma Course in Bannu islamabad , Software engineering is a discipline that allows us to apply engineering and computer science concepts in the development and maintenance of reliable, usable, and dependable software. many practitioners still debate over the term software engineering, often arguing that this discipline does not meet the criteria of engineering; rather, it should be called software development. There are several areas to focus on within software engineering, such as design, development, testing, maintenance, and management. Software development outside of the classroom is a very complex process, mostly because real-world software is much larger and more complex. The purpose of this course is to present software engineering as a body of knowledge. The course is designed to present software engineering concepts and principles in parallel with the software development life cycle. The course will begin with an introduction to software engineering, giving you a definition of this body of knowledge, as well as a discussion of the main methodologies of software engineering. Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) followed by software modeling using Unified Modeling Language (UML), a standardized general-purpose modeling language used to create visual models of object-oriented software. You will go on to learn about five major phases of the SDLC: requirements gathering, requirements analysis, design, coding/implementation, and testing.
