“Yes sir! Right away sir!” A crisp salute and he is off. The commander watches him go. He sighs deeply. He hates that it has to be this way. Bloody war!

 

The young lieutenant he sent off will lead his men right to the enemy. Where, once more, the butcher��s bill will be high. He wonders if he will even see the man again. Will he forgive him if he sees him in heaven, will the others?

 

“Sir,” he turns to the voice of his second in command. It isn’t the ‘ sir’ that drew him. It is the tone of wonder in his voice, “You must come see now sir!”

 

He follows him out of the tent, into the hot middle eastern day. The plain called  Armageddon, was stilled. The battle for the survival of Israel, that had been going for days, was hushed. He looks at his second in command and the man points to the sky.

 

It is unrolled, like a scroll, opening up the heavens. That, he belatedly realizes, is what everyone is staring at. Guns and cannons, are stilled. Even the war horses, covered to their shanks, in blood, have stopped neighing.

 

An expectancy fills the very air, raising hackles on friend and foe, alike. No one moves, barely breaths, as they wait.

 

From the parted sky, He appears, on a white horse, an army behind Him. His eyes shoot fire, as He surveys the battlefield at His feet.

 

The commander feels himself kneeling. All others around him, including the horses, do the same.

 

“Enough!” comes out of His mouth. The enemies fall dead. Everyone. No one who lifted arms against Israel is spared.

 

“There will be a new heaven and earth. The old will pass away. Do you believe this, My son?” He, who is the First and Last, the Lion of Judah, asks. His lips don’t move but the commander feels it in his heart.

 

“Yes sir!” He shouts out. His shout is echoed by all those around him, all those saved by Israel’s Messiah, Jesus Christ.
