Surface Laptop Studio and Pro 8 hands-on: Fresh designs with 120Hz screens

At its annual hardware event today, Microsoft unveiled a new family of Surface devices ahead of Windows 11’s launch on October 5th. Refreshes of the Surface Pro and Surface Go aren’t surprising, and the company did show off the latest in both of those series. But the Surface Laptop Studio is the most intriguing. It’s meant to replace the Surface Book, which was a detachable 2-in-1 laptop. The Laptop Studio, meanwhile, is more like Microsoft’s Surface Studio all-in-one desktop, in that it features a pull-forward screen that can lay flat on top of a table or be propped up at a slant. It also has a 120Hz display, as does the new Surface Pro 8, which got a sleek redesign.
I was able to check out the Laptop Studio, Surface Pro X and a slew of new Surface devices at a recent (COVID-safe) demo event in New York and I have to say, these Windows 11 PCs are looking very promising.
Surface Laptop Studio hands-on
Let’s start with the Laptop Studio, which a Microsoft rep told me at the event will replace the Surface Book line. Like I mentioned, its new easel-style design is similar not only to its namesake Surface Studio, but also to notebooks from Acer and HP. I was very impressed with how thin the Laptop Studio’s 14.4-inch screen is, and it popped out of its frame without much force. The hinge connecting the display to the keyboard is sturdy, and kept the screen up at a variety of angles in laptop mode.
When I flipped the screen to face outwards, though, I had trouble trying to push the lid away from me to get it to stand at a gentler angle as the panel popped out of the frame. But in every other configuration, such as a conventional laptop mode or laid down flat like a tablet (which Microsoft calls Studio mode), the Surface Laptop Studio behaved as expected.
When the screen is pulled forward and propped up in front of the keyboard in what the company calls Stage mode, it’s great for digital artists. It’s easier to draw on, and you can use the new Slim Pen 2 to create your masterpieces. The new stylus offers haptic feedback with an onboard motor and also mimics the resistance you’d get with pen on paper. I did feel a sort of drag across the Laptop Studio’s screen when I started doodling on it with the Slim Pen 2. It felt odd at first, as I’m accustomed to other styli like Samsung’s S Pen. But I got used to it quite quickly, and kind of liked feeling the mild vibrations that served as an indicator that something had been enabled.
The Laptop Studio has a magnetic strip under the keyboard that lets the Slim Pen 2 attach easily and remain flush with the rest of the machine. The magnets were strong enough that I only had to roughly place the stylus along the edge and it flipped into place. I don’t feel like I’d need to worry about losing the accessory with this setup, which is nice.

Microsoft also offers a 120Hz screen on the Laptop Studio, and a company representative told me at the demo that the touch sampling rate is 100Hz. This should make for a smooth drawing experience, but also make scrolling and animations look super buttery. There’s no adaptive refresh rate available in the system — you’ll just get the option to choose between 120Hz or 60Hz in settings.

For this hands-on article, I’d like to focus on my initial impressions of the devices I got to try out. On that note, the last thing I’ll say about my experience with the Laptop Studio is that its keyboard and trackpad were spacious, and though its buttons were cushy and responsive, I prefer the keys on the Surface Laptop 4. For things like battery life, performance and other real-world observations, though, we’ll need to wait till we can test out a review unit.
Surface Pro 8 hands-on
Another device that got a visual overhaul this year is the Surface Pro 8. It’s not the only new Surface Pro unveiled today — there’s also the Surface Pro 7 Plus, which received a typical minor processor upgrade and looks very similar to older Microsoft tablets. The Pro 8, meanwhile, looks a lot like the ARM-based Pro X. But it uses 11th-gen Intel Core i5 or i7 chips and is therefore noticeably heavier. It also has a different ventilation design around its sides compared to the X, which was sealed.

Still, the Pro 8 is impressively thin, with a 0.37-inch profile, and its built-in kickstand is even sharper. Its 13-inch screen is surrounded by an attractively thin bezel as opposed to the approximately inch-wide border around the Pro 7 Plus. The Pro 8 also features the same 120Hz refresh rate as the Laptop Studio, running at a 2,880 x 1,920 resolution.
Out of the box, though, the Pro 8 runs at 60Hz, and you can go into settings to bump this up to the higher rate. Meanwhile, the Laptop Studio refreshes at 120Hz by default. This difference is because the Pro 8 is designed to be a more portable device, and Microsoft expects people to want more battery life on the go. If your priority is smooth scrolling and inking (Slim Pen 2 is also supported here), then by all means go faster. But if you’re trying to squeeze every last minute out of the Pro 8, you might prefer to stick to the lower rate.
When you’re out of juice, you can charge the Pro 8 back up with Microsoft’s own connector or through one of the pair of USB-C ports. These support USB 4 and Thunderbolt 4, and can stream out up to two 4K displays at once. We weren’t able to test this during the limited time at our preview, and I can only really tell you that in general the Surface Pro 8 felt very much like a heavier Pro X. They use the same Signature Type Cover with the same comfortable keys and responsive trackpad, as well as onboard slot that holds and charges the Slim Pen 2.
Of all the other Surfaces Microsoft announced today — the Go 3, the new Pro X, the Pro 7 Plus and the Duo 2, only the last one is different in a significant way. The rest of the systems basically got incremental updates while maintaining a similar look to their predecessors.
Surface Adaptive Kit
I did want to call out the new Surface Adaptive Kit, though. It’s a set of labels and stickers that are designed to make Surfaces easier for people with different needs to use. There are translucent keycap labels to make buttons identifiable by touch, bump labels that add visual and tactile cues to keys or ports, as well as colorful indicators with matching cable wraps to make it more obvious which wires go into which sockets.
The colors I saw at the demo area were neon peach hued and I’m not sure if they’ll be appreciated by people with certain visual impairments (a pattern might be better for those who can’t distinguish between colors). But at least the keycap labels I saw came in different shapes and overall I appreciate the effort here.
Microsoft led the way for accessibility tech in gaming with the Xbox Adaptive Controller years ago and though the Surface Adaptive Kit seems like a small product, it shows that the company is thinking in meaningful ways how to cater to people with different needs.
Though most of the new Surfaces that were unveiled today feel like incremental updates, the Laptop Studio, Duo 2 and Pro 8 at least bring a low-key level of excitement. Plus, these machines (Duo 2 aside) will all run Windows 11, which is already bringing new life to a stagnating PC industry. As always, we’ll need to test all these devices out for ourselves to see if they’re worth spending your money on, but you can already pre-order all of them today.

Definitely, in terms of design, the Note 10 Plus is a bit superior to Note 9. But both the handsets share the right amount of similarities in terms of hardware and other functions. You will get stereo speakers, S Pen Styluses, IP68 water resistance in both the devices. But the latest device in the Note series lacks a 3.5 mm jack and also it does not have a dongle included in the package. The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 has a Bixby button on the left side of the screen which is a virtual assistant developed by Samsung itself, below the volume buttons and a power button on the right side of the screen. However, in Note 10 Plus we can only see the volume buttons and a power button and both on the left side, the power button which on long press can be used to enable the virtual assistant Bixby.

Note 9 has a faster and more reliable fingerprint scanner compared to Note 10 Plus. Both the devices have Face Unlock feature, but this feature is more secure in Note 9 when compared to Note 10 Plus. The Face unlock feature of Note 9 has iris scanning technology which is more reliable than the regular Face Unlock feature.
Note 10 Plus vs Note 9: Display
The Samsung Galaxy Note 10 is having a massive display of 6.8 inches and an AMOLED screen with a resolution of 3040 * 1440 pixels with a screen size of 19:9 ratio. The screen has a protection of Corning Gorilla Glass 6, which is one of the best screen protectors. Note 10 Plus has an excellent color accuracy along with the contrast and can provide immense brightness when it comes under direct sunlight. All these features together give an impressive on-screen experience to the users.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 has a big display of 6.4 inches with an AMOLED screen and a resolution of 2960 * 1440 pixels with a screen size of 18.5:9 and a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. Note 10 Plus vs Note 9: Performance
The Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus is powered with an octa-core processor along with a 12 GB of RAM along with the upgrade option for the latest Android version. The device comes with two storage options, 256GB & 512 GB. You can select storage according to your requirements. Along with that, it has an Exynos 9825 (7 nm) processor which is available for international versions. However, for the US, the device has been powered with a Snapdragon 855 processor. All these features offer users to do multitasking on the device without any interruptions.
Note 9, on the other hand, has an octa-core processor with two different RAM and storage options for the users. The device comes in 6GB RAM and 128GB storage and 8GB and 512G Storage options. The device is powered by Exynos 9810 (10 mm) chipset for the international version and is equipped with Snapdragon 845 for the US versions of the handset.
Both devices perform well in terms of performance. However, Note 10 Plus can perform heavy tasks with more ease compared to Note 9.

The Note 10 Plus has pretty advanced cameras compared to Note 9. The Note 10 Plus comes with a Quad Camera Setup for better and enhanced video and image capturing. The Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus offers fast charging at 45Wh and is having a Non-removable battery of 4300 mAh. It also provides wireless as well as reverse wireless charging. Note 9, on the other hand, offers a non-removable battery of 4000 mAh. It also provides fast charging although comparatively less than Note 10 Plus, but is available.

The Nintendo DS: 2000s

Released in 2004, the ‘DS’ in Nintendo DS stood for ‘double-screen’ or ‘dual-screen’, the main feature of the handheld console.
The console began development in 2002 after a suggestion by Hiroshi Yamauchi, a Nintendo former president, to create a console featuring two screens20. The DS launched in 2004, and featured the titular dual screens in a clamshell design with one screen on each side of the 'shell'. There are two TFT LCD (thin-film-transistor liquid film display) screens, with the bottom one being overlaid with a touchscreen that the user can interact with to play games via a stylus bundled with the console.
Touchscreen and technology
Touchscreens (defined as ‘a display screen on which the user selects options as from a menu by touching the screen’ according to Merriam-Webster) as a technology were typical of gadgets of the 2000s. The earliest known use of touchscreen technology was a capacitive touchscreen invented as early as 1965 by EA Johnson21. Capacitive touchscreens utilised an insulator for the outermost layer (in most cases glass) coated with a conductor that was transparent (such as indium tin oxide). The electrical conductor interacting with the screen would normally be a human finger22.
Later devices would use resistive touchscreens instead of capacitive touchscreens, however, as they were much more affordable to produce. The Nintendo DS would use a resistive touchscreen as well.
Mass popular use of the technology available to the general public did not catch on until the 1990s, where smart phones and Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) were introduced in the form of devices like the Apple Newton (1998), the first device to utilise handwriting recognition with its touchscreen23 rather than simple movements and shapes.
Gaming hardware also attempted to integrate this touchscreen technology as well in the 1990s, such as the SEGA Pico's 'Magic Pen' and drawing pad (1993) and the Game.com's stylus and monochrome touchscreen (1997)24, but these systems were commercial failures. While pioneers, they were not very good and thus touchscreen technology was essentially abandoned until the DS' introduction almost ten years later in 2004.
The ability of a touchscreen and stylus to add much more precise control than controls buttons was considered to be the system's largest draw, and it brought opportunities to the world of gaming that had not been seen yet in the mainstream gaming market25. Its closest competitor, the PlayStation Portable (PSP) by Sony released in 2004, sold well but sales paled in comparison with the new ideas that the DS brought, selling roughly 80 million units as compared to the DS' 154.02 million (making it the best selling handheld console and second-best-selling video game console of all time).
Many widely acclaimed DS games made use of the touchscreen as part of the core gameplay loop and being integral to the games themselves, such as The World Ends With You26 (using the touchscreen to multitask with activities while focusing on the upper screen) and Nintendogs27 (utilising the touchscreen to interact with the virtual dog). Some DS games relied solely on the touchscreen, like the WarioWare series, and these features combined with the sleek design and capability for voice recognition led to the Nintendo DS and the industry as a whole 'pushing toward innovative gameplay and away from hyper-realism'28.
Later versions of the DS were released after 2004, namely the Nintendo DS Lite in 2006, the DSi in 2008, and the DSi XL (or DSi LL in Japan) in 2009. They were largely the same console as the DS but featured cleaner designs, better battery life, and larger screens.
Like the Game Boy and its rivals, the DS did not have processing power that could compete with its own competitors (having two ARM processors compared to multiple 32-bit MIPS32 R4k-based CPUs in the PSP), but where it made up for that were its industry-pioneering features of the dual-screen and lower touchscreen29. According to NintendoLife, 'The DS was a genuine game-changer for the industry, perhaps even the most drastic innovation the market had ever seen up until this point'30. Furthermore, the Nintendo DS was most people's first interaction with a touch screen device. Three years after the launch of the DS, the Apple iPhone was released on June 29, 2007, and with it an Application Store that opened the dam to a flood of games that could be played portably while also functioning as a phone.
By the late 2000s, as other electronics companies began to introduce mobile phones with touchscreens, the mobile revolution was coming fast and smartphones were getting cheaper and more accessible. While Nintendo had pioneered touchscreens in gaming, it would need to update to compete with the mobile gaming market fast encroaching on a gaming industry that until the late 2000s had been separate from mobile phones. Touchscreens were now increasingly integrated, and finding a way to combine mobile gaming with the home console experience (also traditionally separate domains) would have to be Nintendo’s next move.

XP-Pen Artist 16 Review
So last week I bought an Artist 16 pen display from XP-Pen. I’ve always wanted a pen display I could do my artwork on, as I’ve always had an easier time drawing with traditional pencil and paper than I have with my Intuos4. Not to say I haven't been able to produce quality work with my Intuos, but as most digital artists will tell you, it's far more intuitive to actually see what you’re drawing instead of having to look up at a monitor.
I decided to go with the XP-Pen Artist 16 over some of the other knockoff brands, as every review I watched of the Artist 16 glowingly praised it for being the best cheap alternative to a Wacom. I was excited to draw on this thing, ecstatic you might say. I was even celebrating the woes of Wacom, reveling in the fact that I was going to get the same experience I’d get from a Cintiq, at a quarter of the price. So... The tablet finally came in the mail, I set it up, installed the driver, and......
Bust! Well okay, to be fair, I eventually did get it working but it took way longer than it should have. I spent hours trying to figure out why the screen was black when I plugged it in, only to find out that the HDMI cord it came with didn’t work. It took me another few hours to get the drivers working because in case you’re wondering, all these companies that sell these cheap Wacom alternatives, use the same driver. Seriously, it’s the same one. They just switch out the brand name when you download it from their website. And this presents a problem because they’re all relying on a single source to provide updated drivers and they’re rarely ever updated. At the time of installing mine, the last update was back in December of last year. The third major issue I ran into was the pen calibration. It was off by at least a few hundred pixels, so my pen would be on one part of the monitor but my cursor would be off to the side somewhere. I finally figured out that if I set my pen display as my computer’s main monitor then that would fix the calibration error, but no where online or in the instruction manual does it tell you to do this. I had to figure that part out on my own and that in my opinion is unacceptable. These products should just work right out of the box, but because they’re put together on the cheap and their drivers are rarely updated, you’re bound to run into some problems.
Now to be fair to XP-Pen when I did get the tablet to work properly it worked great. Pen pressure was nice, the calibration issue was fixed, parallax was barely noticeable and I did manage to make a few nice pieces of art with it. However, that wasn't enough for me. I kept running into issues where if I turned off the monitor and then turned it back on later while my laptop was still on or asleep, then my calibration would be off again, and I’d either have to restart my computer or fiddle around with the driver settings, or both, just to get it to work again. Also one thing that I was disappointed in was that unlike Wacom drivers where you can create unique express key settings based on the different types of software you use, the XP-Pen driver only lets you use one setting for your express keys. So if you wanted to use multiple programs with different keyboard shortcuts you’d have to change your express key settings every time you use a new program, and that’s just tedious and unnecessary.
Last thing I want to mention before ending this review. The tablet came with a screen protector already attached to the monitor. Now screen protectors aren’t in and of themselves a bad thing, but I found it odd that it was already attached. Normally these companies give you the option to use it or not depending on your preference. And it’s especially odd since you cant buy replacements on XP-Pen’s website, nor anywhere else for that matter. So why do this? Well, it’s to hide the fact that the actual screen itself is not ideal for drawing on. I peeled back the screen protector a little bit and used my stylus on it and I got some resistance followed by a horrible squeaking noise. And this confirms a theory brought up by Aaron Rutten on YouTube when he reviewed the tablet Ugee sent him. And that theory is that all these companies who make these cheap Wacom alternatives are essentially using the same components from the same source and Frankensteining them together to make their own “unique” tablet but in reality it’s all the same tech. And this to me is very concerning because when I buy an XP-Pen or a Huion, I want “their” tech. I don’t want something that was just slapped together from the same components that these other companies are using. This goes back to the issue I mentioned about the driver being the same one that all the others use and why that’s a problem. These companies are essentially taking shortcuts so they can sell us cheap hardware. They’re not looking to innovate or make real strides to be a competitor in the market. They’re essentially the cubic zirconia of the tablet industry.
I know I’m being hard on XP-Pen right now and on these companies as a whole. I do appreciate what XP-Pen is doing. From what I’ve read it looks like a lot of their products get used for education purposes in areas that aren’t wealthy enough to afford the price heavy Cintiqs, and I think that’s a good thing. I just wish these companies would go the extra mile to bring us some truly innovative tech that could threaten Wacom’s position on the throne, even if it came at the cost of them raising their prices a little bit. But really all we’re getting is cheap alternatives that don’t hold a candle to the new tech that Wacom is showcasing, especially in their new lineup of Cintiq Pros and the very recent Mobile Studio.
I do want to be fair here and say that if you’re new to digital art and you want a pen display, and you can be patient with all the problems it takes to install it, then the XP-Pen Artist 16 is not a bad alternative if you’re looking to save some money. I think once you get it working it handles just fine. Just remember to set it as your main monitor and don’t remove the screen protector if you want to have a better drawing experience. On the other hand, if your a seasoned vet of digital art, take the plunge and buy a Cintiq instead. I sent my XP-Pen back and have a Cintiq Pro on the way. I’m out more money than I was when I bought the Artist 16., but I know for me personally I’m going to get a better experience because of it.

The Galaxy Note 9 proves that Samsung thinks Huawei’s phones are worth copying
The original Samsung Galaxy Note marked a major moment for the company and the industry. The device delivered a 5.3-inch display, which was a massive jump in size over competition like the iPhone 4S (released the same year), which only had a tiny 3.5-inch display.
With the addition of a resurrected stylus pen (the S-Pen), the Galaxy Note line was a phablet powerhouse that went unmatched for a long time. Sure, LG’s V-series came close, but it’s never really attained a similar level of success.
Samsung has continued to deliver with the Galaxy Note and main S series, offering features like curved displays, IP68 water resistance, and wireless charging. However, that momentum arguably slowed down this year with slow Galaxy S9 sales. This puts Samsung in a tough situation, as it seeks to continue launching innovative and polished phones.

Huawei has been making inroads into the phablet space over the years, starting with the original Ascend Mate back in 2013. Featuring an underwhelming quad-core Cortex-A9 processor and 2GB of RAM, the phablet was far from powerful. However, the device stood out from Samsung’s Note series by upping the screen size to six inches (albeit at 720p) and delivering a massive 4,050mAh battery.
The Ascend Mate 2 delivered more of the same with a budget-focused Snapdragon 400 chipset and 2GB of RAM, retaining the same screen and battery size.

The Ascend Mate 7 arguably put the company on the map. Offering a big.LITTLE octa-core chipset, 3GB of RAM, a 4,100mAh battery, and a 6-inch Full HD screen, it was a flagship-level product in many ways. Its rear fingerprint scanner — a rarity then — also helped it stand out. Unlike that year’s Galaxy S5, it was a simple touch-based scanner instead of a swipe.
Huawei’s Mate series has been a phablet powerhouse ever since. Last year’s Mate 10 Pro carried the latest internals, a dedicated AI chip, top-flight cameras, and some intriguing AI-related features. It even took home the Android Authority Phone of the Year award. Based on the Note 9, it seems like Samsung finally thinks Huawei’s wares are worth a look.
Huawei-inspired features on Note 9?
Perhaps the most obvious example of Samsung taking cues from Huawei lies in the Galaxy Note 9’s AI-powered scene recognition. First seen on the Mate 10 Pro, Huawei’s solution quickly identified scenes (cats, sunsets, landscapes) and adjusted settings like exposure and saturation accordingly.
Samsung’s take on smarter scene recognition works pretty much identically, identifying roughly 20 scenes and tweaking settings to produce better results. Samsung’s collection of scenes is similar to Huawei’s identifiable scenes, too.

The Galaxy Note 9 can identify food, portraits, flowers, indoor scenes, animals, landscapes, greenery, trees, sky, mountains, beaches, sunrises and sunsets, watersides, street scenes, night scenes, waterfalls, snow, birds, backlit scenes, and text.
Huawei’s feature has settings for cat, food, group, natural colors, close-up, night shot, text, greenery, portrait, dog, fireworks, blue sky, flowers, stage, document, sunset, snow, waterfall, and beach.
The two phones share scenes like beaches, waterfalls, animals (although Huawei distinguishes between cat and dog), snow, text and documents, food, and flowers and greenery. Each phone also has an exclusive scene or two, like Huawei’s fireworks and Samsung’s mountains.
Nevertheless, it’s clear Huawei got the jump on Samsung here, and the Korean firm — like Xiaomi and Oppo — is aping the feature.
More evidence for Huawei’s influence
The other big example of Samsung looking to Huawei is in the performance department. Samsung adopted AI-powered system management for the Galaxy Note 9. First seen in EMUI 5 back in 2016, Huawei used on-device machine learning to improve system performance over time.
Samsung hasn’t made a huge song and dance about this feature, save for saying they’re using an “on-device, AI-based” algorithm for better performance in a press release. Time will tell whether this results in a smoother experience months and years down the line. Regardless, Huawei did it first, and now Samsung’s playing catch-up.

The Galaxy Note series has been overdue for a battery upgrade, especially compared to Huawei’s Mate range, which has always had a 4,000mAh to 4,100mAh battery (bar the Mate S). It’s nevertheless still interesting to see Samsung adopt a 4,000mAh battery in the Galaxy Note 9 too. Sure, 4,000mAh is a nice round number, and it makes sense for Samsung to target this figure. However, this could also be more evidence of the Korean firm taking a good look at its rival’s unique selling points and adopting them.
With the Galaxy Note 9’s release, it feels like Samsung engineers dissected a few Mate phones while developing the device. Who knows, with murmurings of a triple-camera setup for a Galaxy S10 variant, maybe the engineers bought a few P20 Pro devices as well.
Samsung’s adopted features first found in Huawei phones before. The Live Focus feature on Samsung phones is similar to Huawei’s wide aperture mode, allowing users to adjust the level of blur. The Huawei Mate S’s fingerprint gesture (slide down to activate the notification shade) has also been adopted by Samsung (and even by Google’s Pixel range). Then there’s the app twin feature in 2016’s EMUI 5.0 (popularized by Huawei and Xiaomi), which has since appeared in Samsung as the dual messenger function.
Despite all this, the Galaxy Note 9 feels a bit different. It seems like a more concerted effort to follow Huawei, rather than the Korean company traveling on its own path, picking up the odd idea here and there along the way.
What’s next for Huawei and Samsung?
The rivalry between the two brands is far from over, especially as Huawei gears up to reveal its Mate 20 series. Huawei undoubtedly hopes the new phablet range will help cement its position as the number two smartphone manufacturer in the world. It’s extremely likely the series will offer a new Kirin 980 chipset, which will probably be in one of Huawei’s 2019 flagships too.
The Mate 20 series also represents a chance for Huawei to assume the mantle of flagship phablet leader. Sure, it might not have the U.S. market, but between a surging European region and record growth in China, the ball seems to be in the manufacturer’s court.
If one thing is certain it’s that manufacturers crib ideas from everyone. But in this round of the smartphone war, it looks like Huawei is leading the way, and Samsung has finally decided to take notes (heh).

After today’s much-anticipated launch of the Samsung’s new Galaxy Note 8, the company hopes to rebuild consumer confidence and reinvigorate the Note series. Until last year, the Galaxy Note series was amongst the top flagship devices but, the recall of the Galaxy Note 7 due to battery issues had a significant impact on sales and consumer perception. So, from the Galaxy Note 7 to the Galaxy Note 8, what has changed?
The new standout feature – Dual-lens Camera
Unlike its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is equipped with a horizontally placed two 12-megapixel cameras at the back with a fingerprint scanner right next to it. Many criticized the odd placement of the fingerprint sensor at the back when the Galaxy S8 was launched, and nothing has changed on this front in the Galaxy Note 8.
The 12MP primary camera has a wide-angle lens with an f/1.7 aperture whereas the secondary 12MP camera has a telephoto lens with an f/2.4 aperture. The dual-camera setup is capable of 2X lossless zoom and other features such as Bokeh effect and selective focus for background blurring. The rear camera setup records video in 4K at 30 FPS and features phase detection autofocus, dual optical image stabilization (an industry first, claimed by Samsung) and an LED flash. On the front is an 8MP camera with an f/1.7 aperture which captures 4K videos at 30 FPS whereas, the Galaxy Note 7 had a 5MP front camera with 1920×1080 full HD video recording at 30fps.
Another widely anticipated feature is the new and improved S-Pen.

Similar to the Note 7 stylus, the new S Pen is water resistant and has more levels of pressure sensitivity. The latest S-Pen features include capability of taking notes up to 100 pages in the Screen Off Memo mode, a live messages which are saved as GIFs and the user can also hand-write a message or picture with the S Pen. Also, the translate feature, introduced on the Note 7, is making a come back in this year’s Note 8. To translate a sentence, a user has to simply highlight the text and the S Pen will instantly translate the sentence into 71 languages.

On the design front, both the Galaxy Note 8 and the Note 7 feature Corning Gorilla Glass 5 panels on the front and the back. Samsung is offering an almost all-screen front with a metal and glass body design along with a built-in stylus. The smartphone sports a 6.3 inch 2960 x 1440 px Super AMOLED display with curved edges. With an 83.1% screen-to-body ratio and almost bezel-less design (compared to the Note 7), Samsung is aiming to rival other similar flagship devices.
Coming to what’s under the hood, the newly launched Galaxy Note 8 runs Android 7.1.2 Nougat with a promised update to 8.0 Oreo in near future.

As is with all Samsung flagship devices, the Galaxy Note8 will ship with two different chipsets, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, 2.45 GHz octa-core processor with Adreno 540 GPU for USA and China, and the Exynos 8895, 2.3GHz Quad-Core (Custom CPU) + 1.7GHz Quad-Core (Cortex-A53) with Mali-G71 MP20 for the remaining markets. The device will have 6GB RAM and onboard storage options of 64GB/128Gb/256GB which will be expandable via microSD card up to 256GB.
Powered by a 3,300 mAh battery with QuickCharge 2.0 via USB Type C port and the rear glass panel allows the Galaxy Note 8 to support wireless charging. Thanks to Galaxy Note 7’s 3500mAh faulty batteries, Samsung has opted for a slightly smaller battery for its new flagship.
For added security, Samsung is offering plenty of biometric security options to choose from, such as iris scanner and facial recognition, apart from a fingerprint scanner. The Galaxy Note 7 was amongst the first of Samsung smartphone to feature iris scanner for unlocking the device.
The smartphone will be available in four colour variants (two of which were leaked ahead of its launch)– Midnight Black, Orchid Gray, Deep Sea Blue and Maple Gold.

So the Kickstarter team reached out to the creators of the budget claim project to see if they could provide some sort of proof or a provisional functional prototype.
With this prototype request by KickStarter, they could at least proof that the project was not only based on dreams but a real and actual object might be already in the works. But the team was not ready to show anything close to their dreams and this caused the project to be canceled from funding raising. Over $300,000 were raised within the first few hours of the project being published, all these were returned to the actual bidders after the Scribble project got canceled.
Funding Was Born
Later they responded that the team of KickStarter didn’t have to panic. A video with explanatory samples on how they are going to develop de Scribble project was going to be released soon. But instead, the Scribble team opted to just walk out of that KickStarter system. Instead, they created their own crowdfunding system far from the “arbitrary” specifications that blocked the funding in the first place. It didn’t have much trust by themselves as expected, so the team had to fall again into another funding source called “Tilt”.
Bidders see the product up for bidding for 3rd time, something is not looking clear here and the support falls to 2/3 of what the raised in the first campaign. Still, over $200,000 was more than enough to get the project running but another problem surged at this time. The fund sourcing team also requested more information about the project, same situation as before. Ended up canceling the project, again! A working 100% prototype was not possible to have in hand at that time as the technology needed to create it didn’t exist yet, the reason why they needed the funds.
Who said beginnings were easy? Funny thing is that other fund-raisers using the same application, haven’t found this difficulty even with less productive and accurate working prototypes.
Weird Bad Vibes Against Scribble Pen Capabilities and Prototype Tests
Once the first useful prototype was successfully made, a video was recorded to prove that the pen actually works and does exactly as promised before against all odds and probabilities. But something really weird happened, during the film of the video, some frames overlapped the video as if it was edited. ( Picture above this paragraph shows the difference ) Causing a mass doubt thru the public thinking that the video could just be a fake. This hurt the trust the Scribble team had and it just got worse after Reddit took the topic as well. We all know Reddit, one of the biggest threat and conversational forum in the world, people love it to discuss topics on this site.
This evolved to a crowd of people investigating if the fact that a pen-like this was possible, or even a prototype was made that the story went on and on. Now people moved investigation among bloggers and article writers about the topic. Even an interview was found as a fake too, as the person “interviewed” didn’t actually exist. This is a known method for just fast online promotion but, didn’t work so well for the scribble team as it was looking really bad. As the investigation continued, these people discovered who was the “real person” behind all of these crowdfunding projects and it was not the company founders or owners. As no information was found locally or within any tech forum in the area where they supposedly lived. Only information about Scribble founders was only found on same Scribble website as if they didn’t exist at all.
The Research Goes On
The research kept on going looking out for companies registered within the United States for the last 2 years with anything similar to a pen within the company title, nothing was found. So if they were running this company under personal liability, any promised not accomplished could be sued against funding owner personal assets. All these looked really weird at that time. The only way to take this project out to the public was to fabricate a few Scribble pens as a prototype and send them to the main influencers in the media for them to try it out and speak for the product.
Gaining the Trust of The Influencers
Some of the top influencers signed in for a sample prototype so they could be the first in the world to try such a new technology. But continuous emails from Scribble team saying that there are delays and having difficulties to complete the prototypes so they couldn’t deliver until after a few months. These bloggers were publishing every step of the way and it was looking really bad for the eyes of the crowdfunding prospects at that time.
At this point, they were trying to sell the prototypes with the promise of getting them after a year of your order. By that time in 2016, the company was looking like a scam proposition and everybody turned away their support to the cause.

The bad part is that the pen is actually NOT STILL AVAILABLE after so many years. We are not sure if this is a scam company or what. But we did a little research and found the competence that is already building and selling samples of these sort of pens and you could buy one right now with no waiting lines and no possibilities of being scammed.
Where to Buy a Similar Pen for Cheap?
The best choice is to look at Amazon and eBay for similar pens that are already available to the public. We ran a little search for eBay and found a very cheap $25 scribble-like pen available from China. (Screenshot Below). It looks very futuristic and is also sold with an extended guarantee so you won’t be scammed as advice earlier. Also, no need to pay almost $250 for a pen that doesn’t even exist yet as seen on Scribble website.

This is a known method for just fast online promotion but, didn’t work so well for the scribble team as it was looking really bad. As the investigation continued, these people discovered who was the “real person” behind all of these crowdfunding projects and it was not the company founders or owners. As no information was found locally or within any tech forum in the area where they supposedly lived. Only information about Scribble founders was only found on same Scribble website as if they didn’t exist at all.
The Research Goes On
The research kept on going looking out for companies registered within the United States for the last 2 years with anything similar to a pen within the company title, nothing was found. So if they were running this company under personal liability, any promised not accomplished could be sued against funding owner personal assets. All these looked really weird at that time. The only way to take this project out to the public was to fabricate a few Scribble pens as a prototype and send them to the main influencers in the media for them to try it out and speak for the product.
Gaining the Trust of The Influencers
Some of the top influencers signed in for a sample prototype so they could be the first in the world to try such a new technology. But continuous emails from Scribble team saying that there are delays and having difficulties to complete the prototypes so they couldn’t deliver until after a few months. These bloggers were publishing every step of the way and it was looking really bad for the eyes of the crowdfunding prospects at that time.
At this point, they were trying to sell the prototypes with the promise of getting them after a year of your order. By that time in 2016, the company was looking like a scam proposition and everybody turned away their support to the cause.

What Can The Scribble Pen Do?
The pen has so many technology parts in it, that once you start to describe it, you might be thinking, HOW THEY FIT ALL THESE IN A LITTLE PEN? But yes, the pen carries a small eye sensor to capture the color in an object near it. It is very small and easy to clean. The eye/sensor captures the color in an RGB format and converts the color into a popular color palette code for easy replication. Simply point the pen into the direction of anything you need the color replicated, and hit the button. A little stripe around the sensor will light up with the tone of the new color being copied, save the color to then write with it or just for later use and sync it to your cellphone or device, Isn’t that cool?

Offered in their website and almost any used website store over the internet, you can find the “Refillable Ink Cartridge”, in their own words: Scribble’s ink cartridge connects to a mixer and dispenser that exactly recreates the color you have scanned. Each cartridge comes with 30 miles of ink, and new cartridges cost less than $10!… I believe they have said it all. Looks really simple to use and to install.
Drawing Process
For your convenience, the scribble pen came with 3 drawing tips for different textures and feel. This allows you to express yourself with a different character, maybe thinner may be bolder. Gives you the will of choosing which size tip you need in case you are writing or drawing.

The bad part is that the pen is actually NOT STILL AVAILABLE after so many years. We are not sure if this is a scam company or what. But we did a little research and found the competence that is already building and selling samples of these sort of pens and you could buy one right now with no waiting lines and no possibilities of being scammed.
Where to Buy a Similar Pen for Cheap?
The best choice is to look at Amazon and eBay for similar pens that are already available to the public. We ran a little search for eBay and found a very cheap $25 scribble-like pen available from China. (Screenshot Below). It looks very futuristic and is also sold with an extended guarantee so you won’t be scammed as advice earlier. Also, no need to pay almost $250 for a pen that doesn’t even exist yet as seen on Scribble website.
