Marjorie Taylor Greene had to leave the Trump arraignment rally after she was drowned out by counter-protesters.
During her chaotic arrival in New York on Tuesday, there appeared to be more members of the media than protesters present.
Ms. Greene was joined by the New York Young Republicans – a group with ties to embattled congressman George Santos, who also made a brief appearance at the rally before departing after being mobbed by the media. Ms. Greene was also met by counterprotesters holding their own “emergency noise demo” to drown out her “hate speech”.
The New York Young Republicans at one point responded with a USA-chant.
As clashes between pro- and anti-Trump demonstrators took place, the NYPD tried to separate the groups. Both camps were separated with NYPD barricades and community affairs officers between them.
Tumblr media
Ms. Greene took aim at New York Mayor Eric Adams, saying that “you send your henchmen down here to commit assault against people by making loud noises”.
Per Ben Collins of NBC News, the reason it was difficult to hear Ms. Greene may have been because a Trump supporter handed out whistles. He was apparently unaware that Ms. Greene was attending.
Tumblr media
Ms. Greene urged Americans to “take a stand” during her brief speech, large parts of which were drowned out by the sounds of counter-protesters.
She claimed that the government has been “weaponized” against Americans, adding: “I’m here to protest and use my voice and take a stand. Every American should take a stand. This is what happens in communist countries – not the United States of America. We have to take a stand against the injustice, the corruption, and the communist Democrats.”
Tumblr media
She continued: “They’re taking our legal code, twisting it, manipulating it, and perverting it into something it was never meant to be. Donald J Trump is innocent, this is election interference. DA Alvin Bragg is nothing but a George Soros-funded tool. He is a tool for the Democrats to try to hijack the 2024 presidential election. This is a travesty!”
Tumblr media
Ms. Greene soon left the rally and appeared on RSBN, saying that Mr. Trump “is joining some of the most incredible people in history being arrested today. Nelson Mandela was arrested, served time in prison. Jesus! Jesus was arrested and murdered”.
Tumblr media
She was slammed by New York congressman Jamaal Bowman, who told her to “go back to your district. What are you doing here? You’re here for politics, you’re here because you want to be VP ... you’re here for your own nonsense”.

A post-shame world
We can all agree, I think, that politicians are famous for playing fast and loose with the facts.
But in the olden days, it was customary for a public official caught in a bald-faced lie to apologize, show remorse, express embarrassment ... you know, behave like a decent human being.
Some of them would even acknowledge that untrustworthiness disqualifies a person - if not legally, then ethically - from holding public office. It had something to do with honor, integrity ... that sort of thing.
Along comes U.S. Rep.-elect George Santos of New York - a fine example of this post-shame society, brought about, largely, by the previous occupant of the White House - a  man who had no compunctions when it came to denying well-documented facts, or pulling new ones out of thin air. And getting away with it.
As you know, Santos has lied about everything except his mother.  Oh, wait ... he lied about her, too. Shrugging off these “embellishments,” he appears to have every intention of taking the oath of office and becoming a representative of the people.

At least two Republican members of Congress were seen wearing lapel pins in the shape of an AR-15 rifle while conducting official business in the House of Representatives on Wednesday, when two mass shootings took place in the U.S.
Tweets showing Rep. George Santos (R-New York) and Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Florida) wearing the pins went viral as many users pointed out the already high number of mass shootings that have occurred in the country since the start of the new year.
Tumblr media
It’s likely that the two wore the pins all day long (in lieu of the U.S. flag pins they usually wear), as the Republican lawmakers were seen on House cameras, in footage that aired on C-SPAN, wearing the pins at different places in the Capitol — Santos, for instance, was seen wearing an AR-15 pin while giving a speech on the House floor, while Luna wore hers on camera while participating in a House Oversight Committee hearing.
Many lawmakers said that wearing a pin depicting a weapon that is frequently chosen by mass shooters was insensitive to people whose loved ones have been murdered in such shootings.
“To be promoting them on the floor of the House, is despicable and I think an insult to all of the victims of assault weapons,” Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-New York) said.
Rep. Jimmy Gomez (D-California) said that the pins lacked “common decency.”
“Anna Paulina Luna wore an assault weapon pin at today’s Oversight hearing — less than 48 hours after her state experienced a mass shooting,” Gomez said on Twitter. “You can’t make this shit up.”
Tumblr media
That same day, Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colorado) gave a speech on the House floor championing unregulated gun ownership, lamenting the fact that the U.S. doesn’t account for more than 46% of all civilian-owned guns in the world.
“We need to get our numbers up, boys and girls,” Boebert said.
Gun violence experts have presented evidence suggesting that the vast amount of guns in the U.S. corresponds to the country having a higher homicide rate than other wealthy nations on the globe.
In 2022, there were 648 mass shootings, an 86% increase from just five years prior. Since the start of 2023, there have been more than 50 mass shootings — including at least two on the day Santos and Luna wore their AR-15 pins. If current trends keep up, there will have been around 600 mass shootings this year by December 31.
Should the U.S. exceed 600 mass shootings in 2023, this would be the fourth year in a row that that many mass shootings took place within a single calendar year.

THESE REPUBLICANS ARE ACTUALLY WEARING AR-15 PINS IN CONGRESS DURING GUN VIOLENCE SURVIVORS WEEK
House Democrats criticised freshman Republicans, including embattled Representative George Santos, for wearing assault rifle pins on Capitol Hill.
Democratic Representative Jimmy Gomez of California tweeted out photos of Representatives Anna Paulina Luna of Florida and Mr Santos of New York wearing lapel pins in the shape of an assault weapon.
"Where are these assault weapon pins coming from? Who is passing these out?" he tweeted.

“... Santos was introduced at the rally by Dustin Stockton, who hyped up the crowd by reminding them that Trump was “who we’re taking our marching orders from.” Later in 2021, Stockton and his wife gave investigators information about the separate rally that preceded the attack on the Capitol...”

Everything I’ve learned about this man has been against my will
George Santos, infamous for lies and swindling, is apparently a drag queen. I’m cool with that, it’s one of the rare non-negative things we have learned about him.
But it’s hypocritical for him to be active in a blatantly homophobic and transphobic political party which considers drag queens “groomers”.
George Santos has positioned himself as a proud, unabashed conservative—on social issues and all. He has expressed support for Florida’s regressive “Don’t Say Gay” law that bars teachers from discussing sexual orientation or gender identity in school. Accusing Democrats of wanting to “groom our kids,” Santos peddled right-wing talking points that equate discussing sexual orientation or gender identity with children as tantamount to sexual abuse. Such talking points often go further, holding that drag shows, or even LGBTQ people generally, groom and abuse children.
It now appears Santos has participated in drag himself.
A 2008 photo from Brazil depicts Santos, known at the time as Anthony, in a drag costume under the moniker Kitara Ravache.

So we now have three names for the GOP representative from NY-03…
George Santos
Anthony Devolder
Kitara Ravache
So if House Democrats propose a Drag Queen Story Hour at the Library of Congress, would George/Anthony/Kitara vote against it?
To be clear, it’s great that Santos enjoyed drag, and made a friend while doing it. And in any abstract sense, it doesn’t matter! What matters is that Santos has positioned himself among a political movement incredibly antagonistic towards drag queens and others who enjoy drag, one that stokes transphobia and hate towards all LGTBQ people. Santos will try to have it both ways—and Republicans who have decried drag as a moral crisis will too: Either drag truly is an existential threat to our children (wrong) and Santos should be removed from Congress (correct), or drag is absolutely fine (correct) and Santos should not be removed from Congress (wrong).
