Here the Children of the Black Sun are treated with particular contempt, especially in the days leading up to the anniversary of the two disasters. The hatred of their fellow villagers, terrified of a possible return of that horror, will push these kids to unite and embark on a hallucinatory journey to discover themselves and their true nature. The creation of SanTO: a robot with “divine” features

In rapidly ageing societies of developed countries there is a growing need of socially assistive devices. Religion is one key factor in acceptance: we present a new robot called SanTO, inspired by Christian Catholicism. It has the appearance of a statue of a saint, inspired by sacred and neoclassical architecture. Its aim is to keep company with the user for prayer. SanTO has 2 degrees of freedom and can communicate through visual tracking, voice and touch. In this paper we present its design and development.

In order to make the robot a sacred object that conveys the “divine”, several design choices were made, from the use of traditional elements of the catholic plethora of symbols. This includes the posture of the arms of the saint, the presence of the cross and the reference to sacred art. We are also aiming to increase robot’s pedigree by having the robot blessed or certified by religious authorities in the near future.

Cara a cara / edición uruguaya

“Memoria Millenial”, agosto 2019 ¿Son les jóvenes sujetos sin memoria? Muchas veces a les jovenes se les descalifica con comentarios como “No tenes idea, vos ni existias” al momento de debatir sobre cuestiones del pasado. Esta búsqueda que hoy se plasma como exposición, es un esfuerzo por demostrar lo contrario, que nos preocupa realmente nuestra historia heredada y poder transmitir lo que vivimos en carne propia.

La categoría millenial corresponde a la teoría generacional de Strauss-Howe, que abarca a quienes nacieron a partir del año 1982 hasta el cambio del milenio. En uruguay les jóvenes de mi generación estamos marcades por los límites simbólicos del retorno a la democracia y la crisis financiera del 2002. Este marco genera la tensiòn de definir los límites de la juventud, posiblemente no todo millenial es joven y no todo millenial es millenial.

Entre les artistas de esta generación, esta exposición convoca a quienes en su práctica trabajan de alguna forma el concepto de memoria. Se puede distinguir dos tendencias, quienes se ocupan de revistar la historia que no vivieron y les que se preocupan por construir el relato del periodo que vivieron. Por un lado el cambio de las tecnología es un tema recurrente en las producciones de algunos de estos artistas, por otro también se aborda la reflexión sobre hechos puntuales como la dictadura cívico militar o la crisis del 2002 y el estilo de vida de estas épocas.
