Ich gestehe #deadline habe ich zwei Mal anfangen müssen. Beim ersten Mal dauerte es mir zu lange, bis etwas Licht ins Dunkel kam. Doch als ich einen weiteren Anlauft wagte, hatte es mich gepackt ‼️

Dieser psychologische Spannungsroman hat es in sich. Man switcht zwischen zwei Zeitzonen umher und bekommt immer einen Brocken mehr hingeworfen. Ich muss aufpassen nicht zu viel zu verraten 😅

📖✨ I was ready to hate this book, but what a ride, Spring~Autumn 2013! 🥺 *Spoiler Alert*** (Pls don't read if you haven't read the book yet) Initially, I felt the same way as Robert - so angered and had loathed Catherine upon reading The Perfect Stranger. She was so empowered - a successful woman! That perhaps Robert had been insecure all along and was easily led to believe that she might just be a good manipulator 💔 We love stories! May it be books, TV, films, etc... We enjoy listening and like to believe what we're being told. I think that what makes this novel so powerful especially the plot twists and revelations. I felt like I've been lied to as well 😆 and believed stuff that had me overlook characters like Nick. That ending was superb! 📖 BOOK REVIEW 📖⁣ ⁣ Hi everyone, hope your week has been going well. Today I’m back with a book review of The Secretary, a book I buddy read with the fabulous @chrissireads who also happens to be my sister 😂⁣ ⁣ I absolutely loved Renee Knight’s first novel, Disclaimer so had high hopes for this one. Overall, I enjoyed it but I have to admit, my expectations were probably ridiculously raised as I didn’t love it as much as her previous book.⁣ ⁣ This story follows Christine (NOT my sister 🤣) who works as a secretary for the infamous Nina Appleton. Nina is a demanding yet charismatic employer but expects nothing but complete loyalty and secrecy from her staff. However, Christine isn’t a woman to be under-estimated as we soon find out as the story continues.⁣ ⁣ This novel had so much promise and initially, I think we were both excited to dive in, discover what was going on and indeed, what would happen as the tension mounted. Perhaps then the reason for the dis-connect was how the story ended up unfolding. ⁣ ⁣ I think if the author wanted to surprise us, she definitely did. It WAS unexpected and unpredictable and usually as a reader, I live for the unexpected. However, I just felt I couldn’t believe in the direction the narrative ended up going. Yet maybe, Knight was deliberately trying to take the reader in the opposite direction from what was expected! Does that make any sense? 😂⁣ ⁣ I still love this author’s writing and would absolutely recommend her work. The last quarter of the novel just didn’t work for me, personally speaking. ⁣ Thank you to Chrissi for a great buddy read and a brilliant discussion.
