📖✨ @words.and.cherries and I had our fair share of you-don't-need-to-showoff comments or we-already-know-youre-smart acknowledgements whenever people see us carry a current read around 🙈 But that's never the intention 💓 Whenever we bring a book with us or even snap a photo of it at a specific location/time, we archive life memories with our novels. 📖✨ Crossing this book out from my Dream TBR Bucket list! 🤩 As a massive fan of dystopian genre (may it be books, short stories or cinema), I'm so thrilled to finally be able to read this classic castaway novel ~ TLOTF 🐗 And what a delightful heartbreak this novel has been! It tackles so much especially on what ultimately makes us humans even under constrictions that would quite test our conscious choices and convictions. It revolved around a group of young boys whose plane crashed over a deserted island (as they were being evacuated during a nuclear war as implied). With not a single grownup around, a couple of new 'friends', Ralph and Piggy called for an assembly in hope for survivors to come together and try to sort things out. 📖✨ As for the mystery-thriller part of the read, I tried to suspect the least suspicious character in the in-laws that might (business related)... But I'm quite glad the abductor wasn't 'him' so I really enjoyed that part of the reveal. *Deep sigh*... There's so much more to discuss about this book! 📖✨ Yep, the book cover has won me late last year at Sharjah International Book Fair! Whose heart wouldn't give in to Suhana's DIY poster for her missing sister? 💘 I've read a couple of Chetan Bhagat's books in the past so I knew it would be a friendly read (language wise). After finishing the last chapter though, I'm not quite sure how to share my reading experience 🥴 The introduction part isn't quite intriguing, but when Alia came into the picture... The rising action has gotten me invested into the abduction mystery. Unfortunately, the good parts got sidetracked by many unnecessary elements that I don't think contributed significantly to the plot. SPOILER ALERT ~ I like the fact that the book emphasized the danger of minors being on socials without proper parental supervision since child predators just loom around this virtual world preying on curious teenagers especially this day and age of information. So I was quite taken aback when the writer highlighted Alia's past with such normalcy especially Manish's being an adult engaging into a romantic relationship with Alia who was still technically a minor at the time of his advances (among other things) ~ Considering that one of the themes of the book focuses on pedophilia and cybercrime 🤷 Alia's character almost cracked my brains too. Her maternal love was admirable, yes... but her involvement with Keshav was, in my opinion, the lowest point of this book. Especially at the middle of the novel, she had become a manipulator with the guy being the one taking steps to avoid the 'complications'. Not to mention that in the end, the two would just get away with it without a bit of consequence 😵 (but that's better than having them together and breaking up the family) 🤷 I just feel sorry for the woman in this story. 📖✨ Post Reading: Nerded for weeks journeying through the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros 🥺💕 (thank the gods, I could be in the realm peering from the outside 🥴) George R.R. Martin's a genius! This book has been written so beautifully that I officially count myself as a fan of epic fantasy ✨ I love it when you don't have the need to rush yet you couldn't stop turning a leaf after the next. 📖✨ °During Reading: I just met the novel version of Samwell Tarly, and I have to take a breather. Jon Snow's squad is everything! I have read around a quarter of A Song of Ice and Fire, and what an awesome experience it has given me already. The TV series didn't wander too far away from the novel, and this book is making me either love or hate each character at a deeper level. I also have to point out how fascinating it is to see how extremely different Arya and Sansa are, how Lord Baelish is more likeable than Varys (so far), and how Old Nan's stories to Bran also keep me at the edge of my seat. Whenever a new character comes up, it's as if I'm being reunited with an old friend.
