Renée forced her breathing even, forced herself to try lowering her temperature so the flames on her hands finally petered out. And yet her thoughts kept swirling back to everything that had happened. To the danger Peter had already put her friends in. She couldn’t ignore the anger, the hatred, which bubbled up inside her at seeing him.

‘Ren?’ Stiles’s voice was soft, and yet somehow it managed to reach her through the thrumming sound of blood thundering in her ears. Still, she couldn’t take her eyes off Peter. Off the way he seemed to sneer even when he was already in pain from the previous attack. Not her attack, she hastened to remind herself. As of yet, her conscience was clear of having hurt him.

‘Go on,’ Peter baited. ‘Come on, little Elemental, why not use all that power?’

The words were like dousing her in ice water. Renée shook her head, felt the flames receding as she took a step away from him. As she backed into Stiles, who placed a cautious hand on her arm.

‘You wouldn’t,’ he said as she hastily pulled away from him, terrified of accidentally injuring him with any remnants of her power still lingering on her skin.

‘I might,’ she whispered, glancing down at her hands. It was difficult to know what could happen. Her powers seemed to be flaring more than ever, especially with emotions running so close to the surface.

‘I trust you,’ Stiles told her, the sincerity behind those simple words was almost enough to shatter her. Even after everything, the lies and secrets she’d kept from him. Even the times she’d so very almost lost control simply because it was too much, he trusted her. He trusted her, and he trusted Scott, and even though people seemed to dismiss Stiles as having no powers, Renée was certain that was it.

‘Thank you,’ she said, before crashing against him in a hug. A hug she was grateful he quickly returned.

Alloys: Rene 41

Nickel-based alloys are often considered to be superalloys, and Rene 41 is no exception. First developed in the 1950s by General Electric, this alloy has good high temperature properties and corrosion resistance, like many other nickel-based superalloys. Rene 41 in particular is known for its cobalt content (~10-12%), as well as chromium (~18-20%). Typically after age hardening, the alloy can maintain its strength up to 1600°F.

Also like many other superalloys, however, Rene 41 is difficult to machine, and also tends to require further heat treatments after welding. The alloy isn’t as popular as other nickel-based superalloys, such as Inconel alloys, but it has been used historically, including as the outer shell of the Mercury Space Capsule. Jet engines and missile components remain the alloy’s primary applications.

Renee gripped the worn leather of the steering wheel, her knuckles paled and her nails digging so deep into her palms she could draw blood.

“Oi!” Collioc, a middle-aged Zarinian with cobalt skin and a grizzled beard, snaps near my face, breaking me out of my thoughts. “Order something or leave. You’re blocking other customers.”

“Right.” I look at the menu board—a hologram screen—though I’ve been here enough times that I probably have the damned thing memorized by now. “Ainead Moonshine,” I order, sliding onto a barstool, the drying leather cracked and peeling from idle fingers. Will Collioc ever replace these stools?

“I’m here to help!” I yell. “Call out so I can find you!”

“I-I’m here!” The voice comes again. Not quite inside the ship…

I wander around the hull of the ship. There, in the middle of broken, splintered planks, is a bosmer, leaning against the broken ship. She’s dressed in armor—one of the marines?

Bend | Forged in Fire

A sting cuts like a whip across her shoulder. Artemis cries out, instinctively staggering back, stumbling over the hem of her kirtle. She falls onto her backside, stinging—but its numbed by terror as the assassin bends over her.

Artemis glimpses golden cheek bones under the hood, silver eyes like a clear lake; bright, hungry, feverish with bloodlust. She can easily imagine a feral, unhinged grin under the assassin's mask.

Lonely | The Guiding Star

“Say, I’ve been wondering,” Collioc starts, pulling out a rag to clean a sticky section of the counter. “That tattoo you have”—he nods toward my forearm— “why a compass?”

“A star,” I correct, biting back a sigh. A diamond-shaped star, about the size of a medallion, my tattoo has often been mistaken for the common symbol of a compass. “Polaris.”

“Never heard of it.” Collioc pours another drink, handing it off to a patron.

“It’s the North Star on Earth,” I say, not surprised that Collioc doesn’t know of it; I’m not even sure you can see it in Zarin’s night sky. My father had told me about Polaris when I was younger, in the jumbled memories when the ache of everything became bone-deep and lonely. “Some call it the guiding star.”

“Oh, yeah? What’s it guiding you toward?”

I sigh, taking a long drink. “I’ll let you know when I find out.”

Stone | The Rebel and the Mage

Windhelm appears out of the fog, looming like a fortress in the gray, early morning light. The dark stone walls glint slightly with ice and frozen-over snow. Dockworkers flit back and forth as the Northern Maiden pulls into port.

I shiver slightly, wrapping my cloak tighter around myself. Dunmer clothing is cottony, but meant to keep out ash, not snow—but even then, nothing could've prepared me for Skyrim's bone-deep chill.

- Forged in Fire doesn't have a wip page — yet.

- The "lonely" snippet is the first scene idea I had for The Guiding Star and, as you might be guessing, the reason for the story's title. I couldn't help but share the excerpts entirety lol.

YIPPIII charlie I am so glad you asked!! i owe you!!!! they’re often confused as the same thing they r not I pinky promise:-) but they r both art movements yep yep. mainly I think of paintings/illustrations and architecture as the most obvious examples but I’m sure it goes deeper than that HEHE

art nouveau I would tentatively say really began in the 1880s and was for the most part gone by the 1920s. art deco is younger and lasted for a shorter time it showed up near the end of the 1910s and was gone by the end of the 1930s. some people like to say it came into being as a response to art nouveau but I think that simplifies it a little bit don’t you...

I am not very learned I can’t explain this very well but basically nouveau: swirl nature loop pastel and deco: hard line bold ‘exotic’. Nouveau looks like how the fairies of pixie hollow live and deco looks like a kind of sexy bank. its very geometric. it’s not just the shapes that changed deco brought in a whole new color palette of like cobalt blue and bright yellow my Lord..

much as it makes me choke to say it alphonse mucha is a go-to example of art nouveau some others I like better are kay nielsen, aubrey beardsley and gerda wegener. georges barbier, georges lepape, tamara de lempicka and erte are some art deco names I love! barbier worked with both nouveau and deco I’ve never seen it with my own eyes but I get the feeling he’s the subject of bitter debate over which category he belongs to. I think he’s just a special boy

these r all painters/illustrators because I’m awful and don’t know anything about architecture...however if u want to see jewelry/sculpture in transition through this time period I can’t rec rene lalique highly enough most of his work falls into nouveau but later ones like Victoire are some of the best examples of deco you’re gonna get all hail mr innovator. This is such an ugly post btw I don’t know how to write in paragraphs this was one single block until I realized that would kill you. Thank you for coming sorry this is so badly written I am failing my high school English class rn.

Hesitant timeline of my darksparks Prey (2017) au: -Renee Blasey (neuroscience) and Natalie Paquette (engineering) are both hired by Transtar to work onboard Talos 1. Both receive neuromods for work. -Blasey works in Psychotronics, directly with the experiments on the ‘volunteers’. Over time Blasey becomes more and more disturbed/disgusted by the experiments. -At some point Blasey and Natalie meet and hit it off. -(Whistleblower quest) Blasey and Annalise Gallegos decide together to release information about the experiments to public media on Earth. Their activities are noticed by security, and they enlist the help of Quinten Purvis. -Blasey reveals to Natalie some details of her plan, just in case, and smuggles her some typhon neuromods to hide. -Blasey and Gallegos are detained by security and evidence is found incriminating Blasey. Blasey takes the fall and Gallegos is released on probation. -Blasey is considered too high a security risk, has her neuromods stripped(removing her memories from after the time of their installation), and is moved into the volunteer program. -Gallegos contacts Natalie, and together they get the typhon neuromods back into psychotronics where Gallegos convinces an ally to implant them into Blasey as part of the experiment Blasey is being used for. -Blasey is slated to be ‘fed’ to the weaver to create a phantom of a volunteer who has installed neuromods. -Blasey is led into the weaver test chamber. In a panic she uses the typhon ability phantom shift/doppelganger (from etheric phantom). Blasey prime is killed and the doppelganger is drawn into the body as the weaver raises it into a phantom. What is created is a strange mixture of phantom and human. -’Phantom’ Blasey is captured, placed in containment, and experimented on. Her memory is ‘shot full of holes’ and her new part typhon nature is conflicting. She somehow regains some memories of her time onboard Talos 1. Project Cobalt starts early, with Blasey as it’s premier test subject. -Gallegos, Natalie, and Purvis put the final parts of their plan into motion. -Trevor Young is controlled by a telepath to release the psychotronic containment chambers, allowing Blasey and a few mimics to escape into G.U.T.S. -The typhon outbreak quickly begins. -Gallegos and Purvis are killed. Natalie takes the opportunity to get into psychotronics to try to find Blasey so they can escape together. -Natalie and phantom Blasey eventually meet and attempt to survive the outbreak together.
