Remus feels like he's just swallowed a thousand nails when his eyes flutter open. He should've gone used after thousands of transformations in his life, but waking up has never been an easy task for him. Every ache in his body amplifies, and the scars littering his body start to hurt the moment his senses were brought back to life. Each transformation seems to be harder than the previous.
He was about to reach for the glass of water when he felt the pressure on his hand. He looks down to see her. Head only supported by her folded arms while her hand holds onto his tightly. There's no doubt that she would wake up with a sore back from the awful position she was sleeping in, but the peaceful look on her face made it hard for him to try and wake her up. She, too, must feel tired from the full moon tonight.
"It's okay, Remus," She unconsciously mutters, sleep talking to herself "I'm here."
A smile crept up to his face. His heart swells with warmth from the nonsense she just said. He knew that it probably meant nothing, that she wouldn't even remember saying anything when she woke up later, but it still pleased him to know that even in her dreams, she's still taking care of him.
"I know, Love," His calloused thumb strokes the back of her hand "I know you're here. You're always here."
She lets out a small giggle, "I love it when you call me Love."
"I know you do," Remus says with an even wider grin "You shall hear it for the rest of your life, my Love."

Got a thing for my sister, moony? | remus lupin x f!black!reader
Summary : sirius notices that when it's close to the full moon remus is an asshole but when it comes to y/n he's an absolute sweet heart
Warning : one year age gap (youre regulus's twin sis), Gryffindor reader (i hope that still makes u interested), pet names like 'love, sweet heart, darling', fluff
It was... Sirius figured it out. When remus told him about his so called lopsided hair
"Padfoot, your hair looks lopsided today" Remus said, his left hand on his chin and his right hand pointing on sirius's hair.
When you heard that, you chocked on your drink. I mean it's true, you agreed with remus, his hair does look lopsided. "Mhm, top tier comedy isn't it sis? " Said sirius sarcastically.
The other boys laughed but, remus looked concerned. You were ready for his insults to you, cause full moons in a few day.
"You alright, darling? " Said remus. Suddenly it was sirius's time to chocke on his water. "What the hell did you call my sister".
"Darling, you have a problem with that, padfoot" Said remus confidently. "Geez, almost got me a concussion" Sirius said, taking another sip of water.
Or when sirius, James and Peter found you and remus together in the library.
"What does this all mean im gonna go insane" you said. Defense against the dark arts is your least favorite subjects.
"Hey, hey, it's alright sweetheart, we can take a break, you know, I brought snacks" Remus smiled brightly.
"Really, what snacks? " You asked. "You know, the toast that you call moony toast, that one" He put it on the table. "And you made two! " You smiled.
"Yes, one for me, and one for you, of course i can't forget to make you one" Remus grinned, taking one piece of his toast and ate it.
And when you five sneaked to the astronomy towers to plan some pranks
"What should we do, to snivellus house Slytherin" James walked around the astronomy tower. "Maybe we could put nifflers in the Slytherins common room? " You said.
The boys said it was a good idea but, Remus called you "love, y/n, come". " Yeah, what is it, rem? " You sat next to him, his hands on your back.
"Look at that, that's a shooting star, what are you gonna wish for? " He said, pointing at the moving star.
"Hm, I want us to be friends forever, you and me, always, forever" You looked at the stars, and Remus, then the stars.
"Well, love, I want more than that" Remus said.
That's when Sirius snapped out of it. He realized what remus ment was not oh 'I want more than that like money,or something else's but it was 'I want to be more than friend's.
That evening, Sirius walked to the hospital wing, to see Remus.
"Where's y/n? " Sirius asked. "Oh, she just left, I told her to, she looks tired" Remus said, the pain in his eyes were still visible even though it was hours after the full moon.
"I need to talk to you" Sirius grabbed a stool, sitting closely to remus. "I know you fancy my sister, it's obvious! The way you look at her, the way you're a complete gentleman towards her, bloody hell you like my sister"
Remus's face looks like the moon had come early, "n-no", " Oh dont deny it, moons, I'm fine with it! " Sirius smiled.
"Okay, Sirius, i- I don't just like your sister, I fell for her--the way she acts, her beautiful hair, her pretty face, her soothing voice, and she's everything to me! But you'll hate me for falling in love with her"
"Seriously Remus? Gosh it's obvious that you love her, I mean go for it, ask her out, or something" Sirius smiled.
"Really? " Remus smiled, and Sirius nodded.

You're A Joy || Remus Lupin
Summary: Request - Okay here is another one that is hella personal. Yesterday I was told that i convince people to not love me(kinda shocking and I’m still alittle confused). But what about Remus and reader being friends but clearly liking each other. But like the reader is constantly jokingly putting her self down and such... Read Rest Here
A/N: Made this a 3 x 1. The three times you don’t give yourself credit and the one-time Remus does something about it. Thank you for the request @loving-and-dreaming !!
Pairing: Remus Lupin x Y/N
Word Count: 3.6k+
The Great Hall
You were sitting down at the end of the Gryffindor table in the Great Hall peacefully before the four boys, whom you really did grow to love over the years, swarmed all around you. Truly, the small smile that formed on your face was one of utter joy. The four of them had made the measly journey as a first year through the six years together an absolute joy. You’d have been lost without your girls, yes. But without the guys? Who knows what pure bliss felt like. What laughing until you had no air left in your lungs felt like. What a shoulder to cry on without an ounce of judgment felt like. You loved them all. But man, were they annoying sometimes.
“Where’s Lily?” James asked before his ass hit the seat bringing a soft smile to you face. A soft shake of your head let him know you didn’t have a clue where she was. You had to hand it to him though, the boy was persistent. Lily would surely give in one of these days. She was teetering on the edge of saying yes to your bemusement. You’d never thought she’d give in to James. But credit to him he finally listened to you after years of advice and slowly Lily was seeing the James you always saw.
“Not a clue Jamsie.” You looked up to him with a wry smile, “Why do you ask?” Playing coy with James was on of your favorite pastimes, truly.
He shrugged looking away, “Just curious I suppose.”
“Right. Just curious.” Nodding your head, you didn’t dare look over to the boy who always watched you with curiosity in his gaze. He was far too fucking handsome. With that light brown hair and those big brown eyes? How everybody wasn’t fawning over Remus was beyond you. Instead, they flocked to his much cooler friend Sirius. You just wish you had the courage to even hold a non-awkward conversation with the boy. Ever since you started crushing on him it’s like you forgot how to hold a normal conversation with the boy. You were able to fake it with the group but got squirrelly when it was just the two of you.
Sirius interrupted your endless stream of thoughts when he spoke up after a comfortable silence between the group, “Thanks for the homework help, Y/N.” Sirius spoke breaking you from the Remus spell that was taking over your bloody mind.
It was your turn to shrug it off, “Don’t mention it. Anybody would’ve helped.” You hummed continuing to look ahead and not any of them. You were never good at receiving compliments. It just didn’t come too terribly natural too you.
“I beg to differ. These idiots all but refused. You saved my ass. A true lifesaver.” He pressed singing your praises instead of dropping. Adding salt onto the wound he shot you a knowing wink.
He had a knowing smirk gracing his all too pretty face. Almost like he knew he caught you doing something, “Ah, yeah. Sure.” You once again tried brushing him off, but he wasn’t having it. Sirius never did what you wanted him to do. It’s like he was put on the earth to make you uncomfortable, to push your boundaries. A needed friend. A friend that helped you blossom.
He leaned forward deciding he wanted to press your buttons today. Afterall, Sirius knew that Remus was already in love with you. Hell, the entirety of Gryffindor and damn near the whole school knew the two of you were an item. The two of you were just clueless to it, for now. Sirius let it simmer for the better part of a year, but he couldn’t really take much more of the longing glances and the hopeless flirting that goes on between the two of you. He had to find a way to get one of you two stubborn heads to admit anything. He was on a one-man mission that everybody supported. Quite literally everybody. McGonagall checked in the other day. Even she too was getting tired of the puppy dog eyes between the pair.
“No, no jokes. What would we do without you Y/N?” He grabbed at your hand, “Everybody thinks its Remmy over there that keeps us together. But I think it’s you.”
You rolled your eyes snatching your hand away from the player boy, “Shut up Sirius.”
“He’s right, you know.” Remus spoke up earning a curious gaze from the other three boys. He was always the man of the fewest words. It was always like pulling teeth to get him to say more than ten words. But with you? You always seemed to be the exception. Words spilled out of his mouth when you were around. His own form of Kryptonite you seemed to be.
“You don’t have to be nice Rem.” You tried reasoning with him feeling your cheeks grow in shades of red.
James snickered, “It’s not being nice if it’s true.”
“Is it so hard to accept that you might just be great, love?” Remus added in a softer tone seeing that you were stuck in your own head.
You let out a sigh a tad overwhelmed by the four sets of eyes peering right at you, “Thanks. I guess. Now, let’s get to Potions. Don’t want to be late, Slughorn will have our heads.” You stood motioning them forward.
Charms
“How in the hell are you so good at this?” James grumbled from the desk beside you. You heard Remus and Sirius laugh from the row behind the two of you.
Setting down your wand you turned to your Charms partner, “You know my mum went to Ilvermorny. They’re legendary at Charms Jamsie. Guess she passed some of that onto me.” You punched your best friend in the shoulder.
He grumbled reading the book once more trying to figure out the silly little charm that only you seemed to be able to pick up on the first try. Even Remus behind you was taking longer than normal to get the charm to actually work as intended.
Naturally, you had to show off a little to James and only irritate the boy further when you moved your journal with ease across the table. It wasn’t that it was a terribly hard charm, it’s that you were doing it without your wand. Your mum had taught you over the last few summers how to hone in the skill. That and working with Flitwick for a few years and you’d become a sort of charms pro. Going to class was simply a novelty at this point.
You knew you were going to do something with the skill. You hadn’t a clue what. You found you weren’t the best teacher so that was quickly out the window. If you couldn’t teach James then you weren’t going to cut it, even you knew that.
Flitwick walked over watching you closely. He knew you were a rare talent in the skill. Few witches or wizards could perform magic without a wand yet here you were doing it as if it was easy.
“Impressive as always Miss Y/L/N.” Flitwick interrupted your thoughts bringing the journal to a screeching halt.
You grinned at him, “Oh, it’s nothing.”
His eyes watched you curiously, “Surely, Mr. Potter here can’t say the same?”
James rolled his eyes grumbling something else, “No, course not. This stuff is impossible and you’re doing it without a wand?” James wanted to throw the book at you. So casually brilliant and without a damn clue. He wasn’t stupid. This stuff was supposed to come easy. It’s why he was in the class, an easy A. Yet here you were breezing past him without a second thought. He knew if he wasn’t helplessly in love with Lily you were close behind.
You shook your head, “Shush Jamsie.”
Flitwick laughed at the nickname, at the dichotomy between the two of you, “Have you thought more about what we spoke about earlier?” Flitwick turned his attention back to you.
Shaking your head quickly you answered him lowly, hoping your friends wouldn’t hear, “No, not really. I need to talk to my mum about it.”
He nodded curtly, “After the holiday’s we’ll discuss it further then?”
“Sure.” You answered quickly hoping and praying they hadn’t heard too much. But they had. All eyes were on you giving you all sorts of looks.
The second you were out of class the questions started from the guys, “What was he on about Y/N?” Sirius asked first not afraid to be a little bold.
“Who?” You decided to play dumb. Maybe they’d drop it.
Remus laughed knowing it would only piss him off more, “Shove off Moony.” Sirius pushed him lightly before turning his attention back to you, “Flitwick you idiot.”
“Idiot? That’s harsh Siri.” Giggling you tried your best to hide the contentment from your face.
Remus smiled, “You’re deflecting love.” Love, he always called you that. None of the other guys seemed to. Shit, you’d started to notice he didn’t call anybody else that. It was that something special between the two of you. That extra something that made you all kinds of nervous.
“Am I now Remmy?” You giggled with a lightness about you trying your best to get their minds off of Flitwick.
“Yes love, now spill.” He pressed knowing you’d fold under his gaze eventually.
You stuck your tongue out at him then the other two, “You’re all a bunch of grumps.”
“Yeah sure, go on then.” James agreed wanting to know. You knew as well as the rest there were hardly any secrets amongst the group.
You sighed knowing they’d never drop it. You’d have to spill, “There’s a position open for a bank as a curse breaker. Flitwick wants me to apply. Says I’ve got the job if I want it. Says he’s way up on the board or something like that.”
James’ jaw dropped while Sirius whistled, “Damn Y/N.”
“You’re going to take it right?” James asked with bug eyes, “Those jobs are as hard to come by as auror’s are.”
You shrugged, “Like I said, need to talk to mum about it.”
“You’re brilliant!” Sirius clapped your back as he always did when he got overexcited.
You chuckled shaking your head, “Hardly.”
James shook his head dramatically, “You freaking make magic with your mind. You’re a freaky freak. Brilliant hardly describes you Y/N.”
“Oh, bugger off.”
“You do that all the time, you know.” Remus hummed after a lull in conversation amongst friends.
“What?” You replied not expecting his answer.
“You never take a compliment. Never. Can’t you just accept that you’re a joy love?” The two boys kept their mouths shut as Remus leaned in, pressing on your tightly constructed walls.
You gave him a look before nodding, “Sure. Now lets go eat. I need to talk to Marlene about that Herbology assignment also.”
He knew you were deflecting. You always did. But sure, was more than nothing. He had to give you that. There was some sort of progress with you.
Hogsmeade
You, Remus, Lily, and Marlene were enjoying a few beverages celebrating your first weekend out in Hogsmeade. James and Sirius were wrapping up quidditch practice leaving the four of you responsible for finding a table that the group could camp out in all day. It truly was your favorite way to spend a Saturday away from Hogwarts.
Marlene grabbed Lily pulling her down in the seat next to her, “You two sit across from us.” She gave you a knowing grin all but forcing the two of you to sit beside the other. Marlene was just as tired as Sirius was with the whole situation between the two of you. Neither of you had the courage to go for it and she was slowly losing it.
“Sure.” You smiled up at him trying your best to play it cool before shooting daggers at your supposed friend. You’d never grow tired of looking at the handsome boy who stood much, much taller than you.
He pulled the chair out for you motioning for you to sit first. Without much thought you sat down thanking him and turning to the other two who were both giving you that look.
“What?” You asked all but clueless to what the hell they were staring at.
Lily giggled before turning to Marlene who was shaking her head, “Nothing. Nothing at all. I’m going to go get us some drinks. Care to help Lily?”
“Absolutely my dear friend.” Lily followed Marlene quickly leaving the two of you to wait out Sirius and James.
“Didn’t give us much of choice then?” You sighed leaning back into the seat. Play it cool. That’s all you had to do. You could do it. It was just Rem. Your Remy guy.
He eased himself back to before turning his head towards you. A soft smile layered on his face as he took you in, “No, she didn’t. Don’t really mind though. Look at that line. They’ll be standing for a while.”
Your eyes followed his in curiosity, he was right. Rosmerta’s was popular. Especially on the day the students were allowed out, “Sucks to be them.” Nodding your head in agreement your eyes found his once more. A game of chicken commenced as you decided not to be the first one to look away. Little did you know Remus was thinking the same.
Fortunately for your awkward ass you were interrupted by the two other marauders, the troublemakers of the group. Remus sighed in annoyance hearing them before seeing them.
Your eyes widened in concern as your saw their torn-up state, “What happened to you two?” You cringed seeing Sirius bleeding from his shoulder and cheek. There was a bruise forming on James’ eye and somebodies blood coating his hand and arm.
“We’re fine. Just quidditch.” Sirius hummed taking a seat next to you while James sat next to Remus knowing where Lily was sitting based on the purse occupying the seat.
“Yeah Y/N. Completely fine.” James nodded in agreement.
Rolling your eyes you grabbed your wand, “I’d argue that any day. You’re never completely fine Jamsie.”
“Me too.” Remus added while snickering at your quick remark towards your longtime friend.
“Me three.” Sirius agreed throwing a wicked grin at James.
He groaned in annoyance, “You’re all bastards.”
“But you love us.” You added.
“Sometimes.” He nodded in agreement.
You turned towards Sirius looking over his injuries, “Here,” You grabbed at his face, “Look at me Siri.”
“I’m not dying Y/N.” He rolled his eyes trying his best to come off annoyed. But even he couldn’t deny he loved the care you so often showed towards him. He wasn’t used to somebody so nurturing. Often his cuts, bumps and bruises went unnoticed by his mother or father. But you picked up on everything. On each one of them. It’s how you found out Remus was a werewolf faster than any of them could expect. It was driving you mad in your third year, why was he always so cut up around the moon? Why was he always gone? Why were the rest of them secretly missing during those days too?
Your persistence paid off as James spilled the secret of them being animagi to help Remus during his transformations. Remus wasn’t mad, no. He rarely got mad. He was embarrassed. But as always your love showed him how much you didn’t care about his condition. That was the moment he knew he liked you, quite a bit. You were clueless for a while longer. Until Slughorn’s Amortentia positions class in sixth year. You all but blurted out that your cauldron smelled exactly as his cologne instead you made some bullshit up.
“No, but you’re bleeding. Don’t want that pretty face to scar now do we Siri?” Clicking your tongue, you dropped his face to grab the wand sitting at the table.
“You’re right, we wouldn’t want that darling.” He nodded closing his eyes letting you do your work.
You whispered a soft, “Secare Amendo.” Waving your wand at his cuts and bruises. It never ceased to amaze you how cut up the boys got after a practice. It was no wonder they went straight to Pomfrey after an actual match.
“There, as good as new pretty boy.” You patted his head before leaning back in your seat once more.
He grinned, “That’s why you’re my favorite.”
“I’m ignoring that.” James glared at Sirius before eyeing you, “What about me Y/N?”
“What about you Jamsie?” You asked knowing how to drive him up a wall.
Scrunching his nose he answered, “Will you please heal me too?”
You nodded leaning over Remus before doing the same, “All you had to do was ask Jamsie.” Which earned a laugh from the entire group.
“Beauty, brains and your funny. A triple threat.” Sirius spoke first.
Shaking your head quickly you forgot about Remus’s reminder to you earlier, “You flatter me Sirius Black.”
He shrugged your comment off, “Would you just take the compliment, for once?” Sirius challenged you. As he always did. Your biggest advocate. Your biggest headache.
“Thank you Sirius.” You replied to him knowing it was just easier.
“Now, was that so hard?” Remus added. All three of you gave him a shocked expression for being so… brazen about it.
You wanted to look away but something in his eyes told you not to, “I suppose not.”
He nodded not super satisfied with the way the conversation was unfolding, “I wish you’d see we see in you. What I see in you.” He added with a whisper.
Sirius nodded at James, “We’re going to help the girls with the drinks.”
“Oh, you don’t need to.” You attempted to stand before Remus grabbed at your hand.
“Let them, I want to talk to you.”
Your heart rate involuntarily kicked it up a notch, “You do?”
“I do, be honest with me, alright?” He didn’t drop your hand but gave it a squeeze instead. He waited for some sort of acknowledgement. After giving him a head nod you waited for him to continue, “Why? Why don’t you…” He trailed off not finding the right words.
“Why don’t I what?” You had a thought of where he was going but needed him to confirm it.
Remus sighed knowing the words might hurt you, “Why don’t you love yourself? Like we do. I said it before and I’ll say it again, you’re a joy. An absolute joy love.” He rambled knowing what he said probably hurt. But he needed to dig. To break down your iron walls you’d had up for so long.
It did hurt. But was he wrong? Did you even like yourself? Nothing went wrong in your childhood. You had loving parents and the normal thing plus being magical might’ve put a little strain on your muggle father, but it was never anything he couldn’t handle. He knew what he was getting into when he married your crazy American mum. You were truly a rare bread. A dirty half breed from an American commoner or so Sirius’s lovely mother had called you to your face in fourth year. If she had the gall to say that you could only imagine what she said behind closed doors. No wonder Sirius needed to get away. Thank God for James and his parents. It was a marvel Sirius turned out as kind as he was after being raised by the Black’s.
You looked away from him, “I don’t know Rem.”
He mimicked your actions from earlier grabbing at your face and gently pointing it towards him, “Look at me.” Which, of course, sent your heart into a tailspin, “Would you try, for me?”
“Try?”
“Being kinder to yourself. It hurts me when your like that to yourself. It hurts when the person you love and adore can’t see what I see.” He was speaking fast, nervous as could be.
“Love and adore?”
“Yes.” He spoke quickly, it was out there now.
“Me?”
“Yes.” He dropped your face in favor of your hands. Giving them a squeeze, “Sirius was right. Incredibly beautiful. Smartest witch in our class. Funniest person I know. A triple threat. It’s amazing somebody hasn’t grabbed your attention. You’re incredible. A wonderful human. An utter joy. My love.” He added.
Your heart was hammering in your chest. Damn. It’s not what you expected but you couldn’t say you were upset. No, this felt like a dream.
“Are you sure?” You added once more.
He groaned, “Y/N. We just talked about this. Yes. You love. You’re exceptional. Try to see what I see. Please?”
You nodded finally processing his words, “I like you too, quite a bit.”
He laughed softly giving your hands a gentle squeeze, “Well that’s good. Considering what I just told you.” He smiled, “But, I need you to answer my question. Will you try? Please Y/N.”
“Of course, I’ll try. Just, be patient with me?”
He nodded back at you pulling you closer on the bench seat, “Yes love. Always.”
“Can’t believe you actually like me.” You echoed back at him still not believing it fully. Had he made it obvious? Put it out there and you were clueless?
“Thought I made it obvious love. Can I ask you one more thing?” He searched your eyes.
“Yeah, anything.”
He smiled adoring the trust you seemingly had in him, “Would you go on a date with me? A proper date to Hogsmeade. Without the guys. And the girls. Just you and me?”
“I’d love to.” You’d answered all too excitedly.
He let of a sigh of utter relief, “That’s a relief. How’s next Saturday sound?”
“Sounds like a date.” You grinned feeling the usual nerves suddenly vanish. It felt like old times between the two of you. Two kids getting to know each other. Willing to explore more. Understand each other further and deeper. God, you couldn’t wait.

Chocolate?
A !young! Remus Lupin x reader
Summary: Your not feeling well, and Remus takes care of you ^^
Major fluff, no trigger warnings :))
Gender neutral reader :D
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Its almost lunchtime and you still haven't left your bed, well except to run to the bathroom when you got nauseous. But other that that, you got no other exercise. Unfortunately, that means you also hadn't left your room, which left you absolutely starving.
You were just turning over in bed, trying to get comfy even in your restless state, when a worried Remus (gently) busted through the door.
His face immediately softened once his eyes rested on your pale, sickly looking state. "Oh honey, what happened?" he slowly sits on the edge of your bed, feeling your forehead with the back of his hand.
Most of the tension in your body dissipates as you feel the softness and gentle warmth of his skin on your forehead. "M' sick," was the only reply you could muster in your sweaty, hungry, pain filled state.
He chuckles softly, "I really couldn't tell," he hands you a thermos cup from the messenger bag at his side. "Hot tea, I figured you were sick when you weren't at breakfast, its waffle day, your favorite," he kisses your head gently before helping you sit up.
You slowly sip the tea praying it will help rid you of your blaring headache and incredibly sore throat. While you were slightly disappointed about waffle day, you knew you probably wouldn't be able to keep it down anyways.
"Thanks," you reply softly as you sip the tea. There's a perfect combination of the flowery taste of the tea itself and sweetness of the honey he no doubt mixed in.
He grins standing as he begins to take stuff out of his bag and set it on the wide nightstand sitting next to your bed. He sets cough drops, water, ibuprofen and your favorite chocolate on your nightstand.
You have to clamp your jaw shut so it doesn't fall open at the genuine kindness of your boyfriend. "Remmy..."
He smiles, "Want some chocolate? I absolutely know you haven't eaten all day and that's not good, especially when your sick and dehydrate," he adds emphasis on 'not good' and 'dehydrated', to show how much he's worried.
"Alright," you gingerly try to take it from his hands but he grins mischievously before breaking off a piece and lifting it up to your lips. You roll your eyes and try not to smile as you bite into the chocolate, the lovely flavor of it spreading across your tongue.
He takes everything back from your hands and returns it to the nightstand before flipping the light off and climbing into bed with you.
"Remus, you have classes," but your words are muffled as he pulls you into his chest.
"Shh you're sick, I could care less about classes. Plus I'll get the homework from James later".
You eventually sigh, and lovingly roll your eyes at his antics before leaning into him, your arms wrapping around his waist. You're genuinely surprised that the chocolate didn't make you sicker. But in his arms you feel completely content. Maybe you'll get some sleep after all?
“You still have it.”
It was the first thing that caught his eye. Remus thought she would’ve thrown it away by now. But there it stood, record on top, playing a sweet melody. The record player he bought her a few years back.
“Of course, I do.” Y/n laughed at his comment, like she couldn’t believe that he was serious. “It’s one of my favorite things in my room. I play records on it every day, it’s really so gorgeous.”
“Just like you.” Remus started fidgeting with the rings on his fingers. Sirius made him wear them, because he had too many but didn’t want any to be sad because they were worn less. So he forced Remus to wear and occupy them instead and in this situation he was thankful for them.
“You don’t have to wear them constantly, you know,” the girl said, ignoring his comment. If she just didn’t hear him or was embarrassed for him, Remus didn’t know. “Just because my brother tells you to, you don’t actually have to do it.”
“I like ‘em.” Remus voice cracked a bit when he said that, making both of them laugh. “I also like the ribbons in your hair, they’re cute.” His fingers travel through her hair to the bow, delicate tied on the back of her head.
“Sirius says, that they are too girly.” She air quotes.
“He would wear them too, let’s be honest.”
Both laughed now, sharing a moment in agony.
“He would.” Y/n looked at Remus, like the sun looked at the moon. A glimmer in her eyes, so peculiar, it could only be her setting herself to let him shine. “You’re gorgeous too, Moony.”
Remus blushes, letting his gaze drop, like a leave letting a raindrop slowly down to the ground that is too heavy for it to keep on carrying.
“I just wanted you to know.”
— Golden Years
remus lupin x reader
platonic!marauders x reader
where the gryffindors threw a party and a very drunk Remus convinced his dove to dance with him.
a/n: haven’t written in like 4 months but my everlasting love for Remus has successfully defeated my writers block.
Gryffindor house parties were usually thrown solely after won quidditch matches or holidays. Such holidays also included birthday parties.
This particular party however was vastly different from any other ones. Mostly because the designated sober friend was usually Remus.
Honestly, you should’ve expected something was going on when James walked up to you completely sober whining about how Lily was talking to another boy, ignoring him.
“This is the best fucking thing I’ve seen in ages!” Sirius laughed wildly, sweating before he turning to make a U shape with his hands.
“Cinematic,” he sighed out and turned to see your confused expression and James’s scoff of chuckles.
You shook your head, “what on earth are you talking about?”
In turn his eyes widened almost comically. “You don’t know?” He stepped closer to you, “honestly I thought he would’ve hounded on you already!” He exclaimed.
You furrowed your brows deeper, “who? Remus?” You guessed and he nodded, grabbing your shoulders and directing you towards where the lycanthrope was.
“There he is, the wanker!” He laughed pointing to Remus who was dancing rather stupidly, long arms going everywhere and hair disrupted.
“He’s the only one dancing?” You laughed incredulously.
James rolled his eyes and spoke up, “he’s the only one that’s in love with David Bowie.” At that moment, Golden Years by the man himself echoed throughout the common room. “See!”
You shook your head and stalked closer to your boyfriend with a low bye to the pair. “Good luck!” You heard him call with a bark of laughter and shove from James.
Remus had lost his sweater somewhere and was in a loose very old shirt that was stretched at the neck. “Golden years!” He sung drunkenly, and turned to see you approaching him with a funny smile.
Don't let me hear you say life's taking you nowhere, Angel
“My darling aaangeell!” His voice matched with the song and he wrapped his long arms around your waist, shoulders moving weirdly to the beat.
“Remus,” you laughed. “what is going on?” You widened your eyes as he started jumping up and down, moving your hips with his big hands.
He widened his eyes adoringly, “what’s going on is my dove won’t dance with me!” He grabbed your hand and spun you, bringing you back to his tall frame.
Nights are warm and the days are young
“Are yoouungg!” His voice deepened and slowed as his hands grabbed yours and moved them to the beat of the song he was singing.
You nodded with an exasperated laugh, “you want some water? I’ll dance with you after?”
He only shook his head with cute pout, “nooo, dance now! Water after!”
Once I'm begging you save her little soul
This time his voice became higher, slowing down, “her little sooouuul!” He hands tightened on your waist and moved them, bending down to watch your hips with his lips in a drunken smile.
You grabbed his arms with a slight blush and lifted him up, “ok Remus! Very nice falsetto there!”
“I know right,” he squinted one eye, “Dance with me dove!” He whined still jumping up and down.
“I promise I’ll have water after.” He hiccuped before his hands cupped your face.
“I need a pretty dance partner, please my love?” His bent down and pressed a kiss to your cheek. “Pretty, pretty, pretty,” he chanted moving to press a kiss to your lips.
You nodded, “okay, okay, one dance!” You held a finger up. “And after you’ll drink some water, ok?” You spoke to the boy whose attention was slowly fading.
His mouth dropped open with a smirk pulling at the corner of his lips as he mouthed the lyrics.
In walked luck and you looked in time
Never look back, walk tall, act fine
“Act fiiinneee!” His hair flopped in his face, almost covering his face as he stood to his full height and spun around you.
You laughed and covered your face, half embarrassed and half exasperated.
In turn, he grabbed your hands and made you jump around with him.
I'll stick with you, baby, for a thousand years
Remus pulled you closer and sung to you, “Nothing's gonna touch you in these golden years!”
Gold
He let his body fall on top of you, holding half his weight before he picked you up and spun you around causing you to laugh loudly.
Some of these days, and it won't be long
Gonna drive back down where you once belonged
He dropped you back down and you saw James, Sirius, Lily, and a very drunk Peter watching you laughing.
James and Peter held up a thumbs up and Sirius and Lily cheered mockingly with loud claps.
You yelped when Remus brought you closer to his sweaty frame, panting heavily he kissed you like a man starved, body still moving slightly.
You separated from him startled with a large smile as cheers and whistles erupted from the common room. This was probably the most PDA you both had ever shown in front of so many people.
Run for the shadows, run for the shadows
Run for the shadows in these golden years
“There's my baby, lost that's all!” He pointed to you and turned to a random boy and shook his startled form.
“Once I'm begging you save her little soul!”
Yours and Sirius’ loud bark of a laugh were the most audible as you dragged Remus off of the grinning boy with an apologetic wave that was quickly dismissed as Remus grabbed you again, spinning you madly.
“Don't let me hear you say life's taking you nowhere, aangeeell!” This time you sang earning a loud laugh from Remus.
“There we go dovey!” His accent became more prominent at his out of breath tone.
He spun around you again and wave his arms up as you copied him.
“I'll stick with you, baby, for a thousand years!” You both sung to each other dancing in front of each other.
Nothing's gonna touch you in these golden years, Gold
He spun you and dipped you as James and Sirius now approached you dancing stupidly.
Golden years, gold whop whop whop
Golden years, gold whop whop whop
Peter came with a bottle of fire whiskey moving rather weirdly, practically mumbling the lyrics with how drunk he was.
Golden years, gold whop whop whop
Golden years, gold whop whop whop
You all danced around each other, the most drunk of you all being Remus and Peter. Sirius’s hair was whipping all passers. James took the opportunity to dance with a protesting Lily and Peter stood swaying drunkenly.
You and Remus held hands as you moved each other to the beat and he brought you closer. “Thanks for dancing with me dove,” he said suddenly sounding slightly sober.
“Like I could’ve said no,” you smiled bringing him closer. “I love you Rem.”
He smiled widely, “I love you madly,” he rasped before kissing you in the middle of the common room filled with drunk dancing teens.
Golden years, gold whop whop whop
Golden years, gold whop whop whop!
I see the new look, hoping you can maybe gift us a shot based on that y'know 👀 maybe library, fluffy, Remmy shi- (feel free to completely deny this)
Well ofc
Library
You thumbed the pages reading but not reading, your gaze flickering the the messy-haired boy beside you. Headphones in, one hand on his book the other on you thigh. He was unreal in the golden light of the afternoon, his hair brilliantly unruffled.
It was comfortable at first, grounding. Now with every stoke on your thigh, your mind cleared and faded to black. You cleared your throat and flipped the page.
"What you reading love," his voice a husky low from not talking.
"The dead poet's society, it was a muggle book i got back in London," You blab.
"Read it to me," he says coming closer. "I'm interested."
"Oh me Oh life of the faithless of these re-curring," you pause and look over at him, his eyes on you in rapt attention. "Of endless train of the faithless of cities filled with the foolish, what good amid these oh me, oh life?"
"Answer," he says, eyes still on you. "That you are here that life exists; and identity and that the play goes on and on and you may contribute a verse,"
"You know it? Of course you do which book haven't you read?" you ask incredulous as he buries his head in his arms before looking at you sheepishly through his hair.
"May or may not have read it a couple times," he grinned. His scars pulling as he smiles. You're mesmerised by it.
"Sure~," it came out breathily shocking you yourself. You meant to whisper it.
He freezes for a bit, his eyes unfocusing. Then he blinks and he's back to normal.
"What's wrong," Did you do something wrong?
"You-" he stops and tilts his head. "You pretty witch," he says softly.
His statement shocks you and your cheeks heat up.
"You better not be going with Larrot or Larron or Lall- whatever his name is for The Ball the ministry is holding."
"Remus? Are you insinuating something,"
"I'm insinuating a lot of things, one you're gonna dump him." you hum coming closer.
"Two, I'm going to be stepping in to replace your botchy date," you hum again as you lean in.
"Three," he paused.
"Three?" you prompted. You had just noticed how closed you'd gotten. Both your breathes coming in shallow currents.
"Three, I kiss you like i love you, which i do, then and now only if you let me," his hand coming up to caress you cheek. "Only ever if you let me,"
"I'll always let you, Moons," you say. He grins his mesmerising grin and dips in to kiss you, so softly you feel yourself float. It's comforting how his hands wrap around you and bring you in. Settling on his lap.
"Well, Well, Moony finally grew up," you break up to find Sirius and James standing over by the bookshelves. Sirius clicked the polaroid you hadn't noticed him holding. Remus' tugged on your skirt fluently as he picked you up, like you weighed nothing. (Werewolf strength you bet)
"Gonna keep this for the grand-kids," you burrow your face in Remus' neck as he tells of his friends. Your lips tingling, reminding you of what just happened.
I just kissed Remus John Lupin and i liked it and he likes meee
Hi, i want to request a remus x reader, where its a girls night before lily's wedding and they play a spicy truth or dare, where reader realises she needs to ask remus out.
tradition.
FIRST REQUEST SORRY THIS TOOK TIME
1.7k
Bachelorette parties were a time honored tradition where the bride-to-be wore heels that were too tall to be worn drunk and got legendarily plastered with about seven of her worst behaved friends. Lily Evans (soon to be Potter) was almost an exception, but Dorcas bought her these platform go-go boots and it felt rude not to wear them.
Lily assumed the event would be less of a nightmare if [Y/N] planned it, as Dorcas usually took things too far. This way, Lily could almost guarantee that there would be no Chip and Dale-type striper dressed as the left-winger chaser from Puddlemere United. [Y/N] was therefore the most convenient choice for Maid of Honour.
Carefully, the bridal party made their way out of the Three Broomsticks and hauled themselves up the hill to do the rest of the night in Godric’s Hollow. All of them were too far gone to apparate. Sirius had taken James and the boys who knows where for a Bachelor party so the girls could use the house that night. The ‘girls’ consisted of Lily and [Y/N], Dorcas Meadowes, Mary Macdonald, Marlene McKinnon, and Alice Fortesque; basically the contents of their dormitory at school. The seven hung off each other and giggled as old friends as they walked.
“Never thought you’d be the first of us!” Marlene cried in glee, shaking her sharply bobbed dark hair out of her face. “I can’t get over it. Simply.”
“Oh, come off it!” Lily groaned. She was awfully tired of hearing this same banter recycled day in and day out.
Dorcas laughed. “Well, yeah. Marls is right. You hated your poor bastard Potter, for, like, forever. I thought first in and out of the binding contract of marriage was to be Alice and Frankie for sure.”
The most sober player of the evening, Alice, sighed. “Sorry that we’re patient.”
[Y/N] let out a firm laugh, pulling Lily’s set of keys out of her pocket as the house entered their line of view. “Bold assumptions from both Dorcas and Marlene considering you both told me you were gonna marry Sirius Black when you were fifteen or something.” [Y/N] said. Her comment illicited silence from Dorcas and Marlene rampant giggled from Mary, Lily and Alice.
With their Godric’s Hollow destination reached, [Y/N] unlocked the door with some difficulty. The seven flooded inside. Before Mary could loudly announce how bad she had to piss again, [Y/N] asked: “I’ve got a quick question ‘bout Black, actually,” everyone seemed very interested because everyone [Y/N] knew was in love with Sirius Black - unfortunately. “How many of you’v’fucked him? Just… Show off hands.”
Many groans of malcontent echoed through the room. Dorcas and Marlene raised their hands without hesitation, but instead with a bit of regret. Mary’s hand slowly went up with a sigh. Lily and Alice exchanged some knowing looks but both resisted a comment. “Bloody hell, ladies. Is he actually packin’ or something? He’s not that tall, so… Nice hair, but if he weren’t one of my mates, I’d just say he’s average. How does he keep pulling like this?” [Y/N] asked incredulously.
As Mary left finally to piss, Marlene bit back at [Y/N]. “Honestly, I think he’s just charming. Like, something about the smile, the leather jacket. Plus, he’s so fuckin’… noble, like. Yeah?”
“Noble? A guy’s a better fuck ‘cause he’s ‘noble?’” [Y/N] sighed.
“You know what I mean.” Marlene said and Dorcas nodded in agreement.
Dorcas piped up. “Well, [Y/N]. You may be the next among us. Ain’t the Maid of Honour and the… What’s it called? Man of Honour—“
“—Best Man.” Alice correct, pouring herself a sipper of firewhiskey.
“Ain’t the Maid of Honour and the Best Man meant to fuck? After the wedding?” Dorcas finished.
[Y/N]’s eyes widened. “No. Superstition. Clearly. I… Right, Lily?”
Lily’s playful grin widened as she pulled off her go-go boots and tossed her auburn hair into a messy bun. “Well, seeing as neither of you have a real date, then have at it. It’s tradition.”
“That’s vile. You’re vile.”
Mary walked back in from the bathroom. “Who’s vile?”
“Lily. Or Sirius. Can’t remember. Maybe both.” Marlene clarified.
“Ah, he is ‘packing,’ by the way. If nobody’s said that yet.”
[Y/N] was tired of everyone pushing her buttons because she had been single for a while. Single, yes. Desperate enough to shag Sirius Black, no. “Fabian Prewett was not worth all the trouble to keep that relationship going just to have a date to your wedding.” She said.
“He was so pretty!” Dorcas remarked, a drunken slur apparent in her voice.
“Yeah, and he was also a prick. Anyway, there’s no sense in finding someone with, like, days til the wedding.”
Lily sighed loudly. She knew what she was doing. It was that sort of sigh that baited someone to ask why one was sighing.
“What?” [Y/N] asked, scoffing.
“Nothing. It’s nothing.”
Strained silence as all the other girls leaned into listen. “Oh, I’m sure. What’s the problem here?”
“James said one of his boys also doesn’t have a date to the—“ Lily started.
“You already implied Sirius—“
“Remus. Rem doesn’t have anyone.”
A longer, more strained silence.
Marlene gasped. “Holy fuckin’ shit. You should finally ask Remus out.”
“Finally? What do you mean finally? He’s my best mate.” [Y/N] said incredulously.
The other girls shared groans of indignation or shouts of surprise. “Dear, every boy you’ve ever been out with looks like a cheap knock-off of Loony Loopy Lupin. You have to have noticed.” Marlene pointed out.
“Don’t call him that!” Lily butted in.
“Don’t call him that. He doesn’t like it. And simply, I don’t think that’s true. About the boy thing.” [Y/N] insisted.
“Amos Diggory.” Mary said clearly. Amos had been her very first boyfriend. [Y/N] finally said yes to his obvious advances after Remus took a Slytherin girl his friends all hated to Hogsmeade. Amos had then been the same height and build as Remus, with those aggressively kind eyes. However, he was nothing like Lupin in any other way.
“They’re both tall with brown hair. So’s James for that matter—“
“Amos is just the polite version of Lupin. They’re practically the same bloke.” Mary finished he brutal comment and strolled into the kitchen.
“Tony Dolohov—“ Lily pointed out. Antonin Dolohov had been a rebound repeated hookup after Amos had broken up with [Y/N] since he thought she was too ‘disinterested’ in him. It was familiar commentary that Remus and Dolohov looked similar. They were constantly mistaken for the other from the back in school, despite being completely different as people.
“Was a fling!”
“Evil Lupin…” Dorcas sighed.
[Y/N] was ready for another topic of conversation. “So what? I like tall brunette guys from the countryside. Sue me. Fabian Prewett was from out there too, but he was completely—“
“Mm… Yes. Redheaded, pretentious Lupin.” Dorcas grinned tempestuously.
Mary gasped. “That implies our Lupin isn’t pretentious!”
Alice cleared her throat amidst [Y/N] evident shame and irritation. “If you don’t mind my saying, [Y/N], you’ve been down for that boy since you were about fourteen. Lupin, I mean.”
[Y/N] watched Lily nod drunkenly at wise old Alice’s words. “Call him! Call him right now!”
“Fuck you! No!”
Before [Y/N] could do anything else, Marlene began leading a chant of “call him!” with others shouting such fare as “come on, don’t ruin Lily’s party!” That was when she had to pick up the phone, just to get it to stop.
She stood there, listening to the dial tone hum. “Shit. What number am I ringing? He’s not… He’s with James.”
Lily whipped out her wand from her back pocket and wordlessly summoned a number jotted down on a takeaway menu from who knows where in the kitchen. Lily dictated the number to [Y/N], just to make sure she would actually make the call.
“‘Llo?” Sirius Black slurred on the other line. [Y/N] had often heard him wasted, but he was gone-gone tonight. He spoke too loudly into the receiver. After multiple semesters of Muggle Studies, he still hasn’t mastered the telephone.
“Black, it’s [Y/N].”
“Hey there, love,” Sirius suddenly sounded on edge. The world was a scary place these days and such a call was scary to get this late during a bachelor party. [Y/N] thought he sounded more sober, or tried, after she announced herself. “‘S everything okay…?”
“Hm? Yeah, no. All’ve us are fine. Is Lupin there?”
“What you want with Lupin?” Sirius inquired, his tone sounding much more typical of a drunk Sirius Black.
[Y/N] looked over her shoulder at the expectant faces of the girls and an encouraging thumbs up from Alice. “Uh, drinking game, or something. Put him on. Please.”
Sirius sounded like he dropped the receiver away from his face and called something like “Oi Moony, there’s a foxy bird on the phone for you!” into the room near him. After some shuffling and unintelligible grumbling, Remus’s voice came through on the phone.
“Remus Lupin on,” he said too clearly. The kind of clearness of tone one had when stoned out of their mind and attempting to cover it up. But at least he knew how to use a phone. “Who’s speaking?”
“Lupin, it’s me. It’s [Y/N]. Everything’s fine.”
“Oh. Hi?”
“Yeah, hi. All the boy’s watching you right now?”
“Uh,” a pause. “No, yeah. All of ‘em.”
“Same here. Holding a wand to my chest, basically. You still don’t have a date to the wedding, right?”
A longer pause. “Hm? To the wedding, you said?” He swallowed. Dry mouth from nerves or smoking too much, maybe. “No.”
“Right. Nor have I. Wanna go with me? Since we already both, like, have to go? Figured it’d be fun to go with you,” [Y/N] dropped her voice to a whisper. “Like, go-with-me-go-with-me. Real deal date.”
Too long of a pause.
“Remus? You there?”
“Yeah. Yeah! Sure, I’m here, sure. Also, like, yeah, sure. I mean, yeah. I’ll go with you. If you want, I mean. Yeah.”
[Y/N] sighed in relief. “Brilliant. Pop by before and get me. We’ll go together. Ta.”
With that, she hung up.
“Ta?” Dorcas said dramatically. “Ta? You ask the man out and you close with fuckin’ ‘ta?’”
Summer 1976.
Remus had been looking forward to this summer for months. An entire summer spent in Paris. While most would assume that freedom and adventure were more to James and Sirius’ tastes, Remus couldn’t wait to get a taste of it. He’d miss his friends, sure, without the week-long visits to Potter Manor, but they would all survive one summer, and they’d have plenty of stories to tell when they returned to Hogwarts in the fall.
Despite often being credited as the ‘smart’ one of the Marauders, he wasn’t too proud to admit that he could barely understand a lick of the French spoken all around him. That was definitely Sirius’ department.
He didn’t mind, though. He was too busy taking in the wonderful sights and smells and sounds of the beautiful, old downtown area he’d been spending most of his time in.
He’d been admiring a record shop perched on one of the cobblestone corners for the last couple of days now, and finally, he’d decided today was the day to actually check it out.
The inside of the store was dim but warm, and somehow stuffed full of shelves while still feeling spacious at the same time. It was the kind of place that the owner clearly treated more like a home than a store, the way it emitted such comforting energy.
Apparently, though, the owner was just as possessive of the shop as he would be of his own home too.
Remus had been looking through a shelf of records while playing absentmindedly with his wand before he realised that fiddling with it out in the open like this was probably not the best idea. But when he tucked it back into his sleeve, the shopkeeper sat up stiff behind the desk, shooting quickly to his feet and rounding one of the shelves to plant himself in front of the young wizard before he could move.
“C’est quoi ça??” He snapped, eyes sharp and angry. “Montre, gamin! Pensez-vous que je me suis aveugle?!”
Remus blinked, wide eyed, not a single syllable of the quickly-spoken french registering in his ears. “I- sorry- what…?”
“Oh, vous êtes simple, c'est ça?? Montrer! A ce moment, lorsque j'appelle les autorités!”
While this was happening, what Remus had failed to notice was a pair of inquisitive eyes fixed on him, a tiny smile playing over soft lips as a stranger watched him from between shelves.
She slipped out into the open now as Remus continued to stammer in protest, her movements silky smooth as she stepped up right next to him to face the shopkeeper with narrowed eyes and a defiant curve to her mouth.
“Qu'est-ce qui se passe ici?” She frowned.
Remus blinked at her. Had she been there the whole time?
“Ah, gamin ici pense qu’il peut me voler!”
She rolled her eyes. “Vous êtes paranoïaque, Pierre. Il n’a volé pas au qu'une chose.”
The man’s face seemed to turn red and puffy with anger. “Paranoïaque? Paranoïaque?! Et je prends vos compte maintenant, eh?? Tu es un problème, Chaereah Bane! C’est tous!”
“Et vous?” She retorted with a raised brow. “Un vieillard, aussi timbré que vos femme a lui abandonné.”
Remus nearly stumbled when she linked her arm with his, dragging him towards the door.
“Au revoir et bon débarras, monsieur!”
The shopkeeper yelled after them as they continued out onto the street, but the unfamiliar words fell quickly silent when the door shut behind them.
The strange girl snickered as she continued leading Remus along, though she slipped her arm from his after a moment to produce a record as if from thin air. “Guess that’s what you get for calling some poor tourist a thief,” she chuckled.
Her voice didn’t carry the thick french accent he’d expected. Rather something fainter, but for the most part her voice sounded more like his. But that also wasn’t the main thing on his mind right now, considering he had just watched her pull a record from thin air.
“You… you’re a witch??”
She grinned. “Don’t sound so worried. It’s not like you were doing a good job of hiding your wand in there. Trust me, nobody notices anything strange in a place full of tourist traps.”
“I see…”
“Come on. I know a good place for hot chocolate.”
Her name was Chaereah Bane. Charlie.
On the surface, she was perfect; with her long dark lashes, her tinted and glossed lips, her skirts that were just a little too short to be unintentional. Her only imperfection was the slice of bluish-grey in her otherwise-hazel eyes, like a piece of shattered stained glass, but even that could hardly be counted as a flaw; it was beautiful.
But beyond that, she was chaos in its purest form. She excelled at wandless magic, which meant she could consistently break the rules of underaged magic outside of school without being caught. She really did know all the best places for hot chocolate, she changed the colour of flowers in stalls, shady vendors would mysteriously trip over seemingly nothing when she was near, and despite sounding incredibly insulting at times, her French was the most elegant thing Remus had ever heard in his life.
It started with the exchanging of addresses for owls.
She lived in a large apartment with her mother and uncle, who seemed absolutely wonderful from the way she talked about them, and when she showed up where he and his father were staying to pick him up, she proved the impossible true; charming the socks off Lyall Lupin.
They met in coffee shops and parks and bookstores, talking about everything from their studies to the most questionable school rules they’d broken and gotten away with it. They recommended books and music and she made him laugh in a way he hadn’t thought possible from someone he’d known such a short time. They were the perfect pair.
And before either of them could catch the ground slipping out from under their feet, playful glances were turning into long looks while the other’s gaze was elsewhere. Knuckles bumping together as they walked down the street turned to fingers laced together and her form tucked perfectly under his arm, hers looped around his middle. Friendly meetings became kisses exchanged in coffee shop booths and on park benches.
Falling in love with her was so blissfully easy. How could it not be, when she was the way that she was?
And then came that dreaded night. The first full moon of the summer.
Remus was irritable all day long, every inch of his skin itching and aching with the approaching change. He’d decided the best thing he could do was go to the remotest area of the woods outside the city and isolate himself. It was right around then that he really felt how much he missed his friends.
He couldn’t tell Charlie. Part of him wanted to, really, but the mere idea of the words leaving his mouth made him feel nauseous.
What if she hates me? He didn’t think he could bear it if she hated him. And how could she not?
On the phone with her earlier in the day, he knew she could tell something was wrong. Her voice was softer, her questions more calming than prying. But she could also tell he didn’t want to talk about it, and she let the matter go.
What he didn’t know as the taxi lights disappeared down the country road behind him, and he wandered into the darkness of the woods, was that Charlie had never really let the matter go.
She hadn’t stopped thinking about it all day. She hadn’t stopped worrying.
And as the chill of the falling night wrapped around them both – Remus alone in the woods, Charlie worrying her lip between her teeth on her balcony – they both looked up at the same moon with a dreading kind of feeling.
When the sun rose the next morning, Remus’ first thought was that something was wrong.
He must have fallen asleep at some point, which wasn’t really unusual, but as he slowly regained consciousness in the space beneath the clawing roots of a large tree, he thought it was especially strange that he was under a patchwork blanket.
Blinking, he sat quickly upright, pulling the blanket around him to cover himself. What in the world…?
Then a strange noise met his ears. It was faint, but not necessarily distant. Was that… humming?
Slowly – still using the blanket like a robe – Remus got to his feet and stepped out from under the tree to peer around. He didn;t have to go very far before the sound grew clearer, like it was right on top of him.
Then he looked up, and his lips parted in shock and horror. The sound was right overtop of him.
Resting on one of the tree branches overhead was the sitting form of a girl, one foot propped up on the branch she was sitting on to rest a notebook against her leg, the other swinging freely below her. She hummed quietly with a pensive expression as she spun a pencil absentmindedly between her fingers. Charlie.
The humming trailed off suddenly, as she seemed to feel the eyes on her. When she glanced down and spotted Remus below her, a small smile curved her lips.
“Sleeping Beauty finally rises,” she joked. “I would have given you a kiss, but you were a bit… furry.”
Adjusting her sitting position in the tree, she snapped her notebook shut and slid a bag off her shoulder, dropping it to the ground. “Here, I brought you this. You should put on some clothes.”
Remus still had yet to say a word, blinking mutely at the bag that appeared to have his clothes in it. When he glanced back up at Charlie, she had a hand over her eyes, waiting patiently.
Swallowing hard, he quickly slipped into his dark jeans and loose knit jumper. He shuffled nervously from foot to foot for a moment before finally somehow making himself speak.
“It’s, uh… you can look now.”
Charlie peered at him quickly through her fingers before lowering her hand and beginning the climb down the tree.
When she finally dropped back to the ground with a small huff, Remus was observing her almost cautiously, as if trying to figure out what kind of game she was playing.
A long beat of silence passed. Then…
“How did you… how did you find out?”
Charlie raised a brow. “It wasn’t exactly hard. Your scars, the way you avoid certain topics. I wasn’t entirely sure until I called you yesterday, though.”
He nodded slowly. “Why did you come after me?”
“Because I figured it would probably really suck to have to wake up in the middle of nowhere all by yourself after a night like that,” she replied simply, rummaging through the bag she brought. “Here.”
She handed him a chocolate bar, and despite his confusion and hesitation, he couldn’t help the small smile that fought its way onto his lips.
“Thanks…” His eyes flickered between her and the ground. “So… you don’t hate me.”
She looked at him like he was completely dumb. “Hate you? Rem, I’m pretty sure I love you. Which is – wow, that’s the fastest I’ve ever said that to anyone. Why would I hate you for something you can’t even control?”
He shrugged, feeling a little surer the longer she didn’t run away screaming. “Most people would.”
“Then most people are stupid,” she replied. There was a small pause before she held out her hand. “Come on. Want some coffee?”
She was so casual about it, his heart could have glowed. His smile was adoring as he accepted her hand, and she pulled him into her side.
“Coffee sounds great. You know a place?”
She smirked. “Of course I do.”
She wonders if Remus knew just how beautiful he is under the sunlight. How his long lashes would make a faint shadow on his eyelids. How his sandy blonde hair seemed to lighten by a degree and the golden strands gleamed. How his cheeks would turn a shade rosier.
Oh what a beautiful sight Remus John Lupin is.
Its taken all of her might to fight the urge and run her fingers through his hair. To tuck in the naughty strands that keep on falling to his face as he continues reading, giving him a slight annoyance of huff as he brushes them away, only to have to do the same gesture a couple minutes later.
Remus was beautiful. His tie now hangs loose around his neck. He was lying on his side on the chequered blanket they laid on the grass. James, Sirius, and Peter were busy play-fighting on the field and as always, Remus would rather occupy himself in between the leaves of his novels, giving her all the luxury to adore him privately.
Sometimes, when he would catch her staring, Remus would blush and hide his flustered smile behind his book, just like the attempt he’s doing at the moment.
“I’ve told you to quit staring,” He mutters.
“But why?” She asks, pushing his book down so she could see his face again “You look beautiful.”
Remus rolled his eyes, “Yes, of course. Thank you.”
“I mean it.” She chuckles “Why is it that you hate it so much when I compliment you?”
Honestly, Remus doesn’t know why. He supposed it’s due to the fact that he’s never been familiar with people complimenting him for his physical appearance. To be complimented on his cleverness and wit have always been one thing, but to be praised by his beauty? That was something new. The scars littering his skin had always been the cause of people to stare at him pitifully, unlike the adoration and esteem she always has in her eyes whenever he caught her.
“Thank you,” Remus finds himself saying, this time with a more genuine tone “I mean it.”
She smiles at him, finally looking down to her own book.
Now as if on cue, the moment she has her eyes away from him, it was Remus’ turn to gaze. He makes note of all the beauty marks on her face. How the bridge of her nose was shaped, the always present curl on the corner of her lips, and that little stubborn hair on her brow bone that seemed to have its own mind on the direction it was going. All the features that form the bigger beautiful picture.
Remus could see her face every time he closed his eyes. He could imagine the way her forehead would wrinkle a little whenever she was reading something she’s engrossed in, or the sound of her giggle when he would throw a joke that others wouldn’t understand, or the warm assurance he felt whenever she would pat on his shoulder. Something so trivial that shouldn’t have this much magnetism for him.
Had it been done by someone else, Remus wouldn’t have bat an eye, but she had always been an exception. The only exception.
“You’re beautiful, too.”
She looks up, meeting his eyes with a smile. The kind that would have Remus melting to the ground, “Thank you, Remus.”
—-
Remus stares at his reflection once more. The new gash on his right cheek was still red. The pain has long subsided but the ugliness, at least in his mind, of its appearance was still bothering him. He’s taken one too many days staying at the Hospital Wing, even when Madam Pomfrey had cleared him days ago, and he has no other choice but to return to his classes now.
Remus has never been more self-conscious of his appearance than now. He wanted to curse himself for ruining his already less handsome face the other night during the full moon. Perhaps he should’ve drank more potion or chewed on more herbs to keep his violence in check, but he’s never won against the other side of him. He was always the losing party, having to face the consequences the next morning alone for the rest of his life.
Now his feet drag him to the Great Hall. His heart was heavy, hand busy trying to hide the new scar. He was scared. What would she think of him now?
“Ah, there you are!” She greets him happily when he finally finds his seat “I was beginning to worry about you. Sirius said you’ve got a bad food poisoning but he wouldn’t let me visit you at the infirmary. Are you feeling better now, Handsome?”
Remus smiled weakly, still hiding his scar with his hand.
She tilts her head, trying to look at him better. Remus was now trying to act casual, taking a piece of toast with his left hand so he wouldn’t have to move his right, but now he has to figure out how to put the jam on. Trying to do it with one hand only made him look more of a fool.
“Do you need help, Remus?”
“No, I’m fine.” He says quickly “Thank you.”
But he was clearly not fine. Annoyed grunts escaping his lips as the toast wouldn’t sit still on his plate. The jam kept on falling off the steel knife and Remus could feel his head slowly ticking as if it was a bomb ready to explode.
Without a word, she took the knife in his hand and helped him spread the jam to his toast. Remus was frowning now. Embarrassed and angry at himself for making her do it. It makes him feel like he owes her a longer apology and explanation now.
“Did you hurt your right hand, Remus?” She asks softly, her kind smile still evident on her face.
“No, my right hand is perfectly fine.”
She placed his toasts on his plate, nodding in acknowledgement. Remus could see from the small glance on her face that she was curious, understandably so, from his suspicious disappearance the past days and the strange action he’s doing at the moment, but she remains quiet. Her kind smile was still present as if waiting for him to willingly explain himself.
But that revelation never came. At least, not in that morning. Remus ate his breakfast quietly, still not budging his right hand from his cheek, and completed his meal in silence. He busied himself by talking to Peter, pretending to be very much interested in the nonsense Peter was rambling about.
“Prongs,” Remus called before they scrambled to their class “Can I swap seats with you today for Potions?”
James raised an eyebrow, “Why?”
Remus put his hand down for a brief moment, letting James to see his scar but the bespectacled boy remained confused, he shrugged in confusion that made Remus groan in annoyance, “Just do it for me, please? Just for today, I promise.”
“I don’t know, Moony.”
“I’ll see you at Potions, Remmy?” She says, making the two boys turn at her tersely.
“Ah, sure.” Remus nods unsurely, waving at her as she leaves.
“Yeah, no chance, mate.” James says at the event “She’s waiting for you.”
“But—,”
“Why do you even want to swap seats?”
“I’ve told you!” Remus yelled in frustration, only toning his volume down at the stare of others.
“You’ve told me nothing. Quite literally.”
Remus groans, pointing at his scar.
“Okay,” James says, his tone trailing as he tries to process what Remus was exactly pointing at “Was that supposed to answer anything?”
“You’re so daft, Prongs.” Remus grumbles, taking his satchel and swinging it to his left shoulder “Thanks for nothing.”
—-
“I’m going to kill Slughorn,” Remus mutters as he looks at the cauldron in front of him.
The varied ingredients for whatever potion they would be brewing that day have been laid out on their tables. Remus glances to his shoulder, James sitting happily with Lily as they begin their work on the task at hand. He knew that he has to take his hand off of his cheek sooner or later but he would’ve appreciated it better if he was not sitting right next to her now.
“Shall we start?”
Remus only nods, smiling weakly.
But the boy didn’t move. His right hand was still glued to his cheek, the other hand folded in front of his chest. He was worried. He couldn’t tell what her reaction to his new scar would be. Would she be disgusted with him now?
“Remus, are you okay?” She asks with worried eyes now, her hand touching his in a comforting manner “Should I get you to the infirmary?”
“No, no, I’m fine.” He says fast, not wanting her to be even more worried.
With a deep sigh, he finally put his hand down. Painfully slow that it made her brows knitted. His scar is out in the open now. He could see her staring at it and Remus swears he could feel it throbbing once more. Her gaze was gentle and kind as always but Remus can’t help but to feel frightened still.
Her hand was still on his arm, giving it a gentle squeeze, “Help me cut the Sopophorous bean?”
Remus nods, flashing her an unsure smile as they begin their work.
—-
When Potions finished, Remus hurriedly excused himself. He was still unsure of her reaction. Was her gentle response a product of her understanding or has it shifted to the kind others gave him? The pitiful and at times degrading stare of his physique that made him wish he could peel himself off of his skin?
Remus now finds himself lying on his bed, face facing down, buried on his stack of pillows. He hated feeling this way. He was just getting comfortable with the kind of compliments she threw at him. He was beginning to feel good in his own skin, to appreciate his scar as his proof of vigour instead of shameful battle scars. Now to think that she might have changed her mind, Merlin, Remus couldn’t imagine the heartbreak he would have to endure.
His finger slowly traced the new scar. Madam Pomfrey said that she would try to make better ointment to heal it but she couldn’t guarantee that it would disappear entirely. Now as much as Remus appreciates the woman’s effort to tend him every time his afflictions cause him troubles, Remus can’t help but to feel the slightest bit of annoyance over her inability to fix his flaw.
Suddenly, a soft knock was heard on the door. He knew that it wouldn’t be any of his roommates for none of them knew any decency to knock and wait for a reply, they would just barge in with no care for the world, so whoever knocked must’ve been someone else. Someone who might not know about his scar trouble.
“Yes?” Remus answered, sitting up now.
“Remmy, can I come in?” Her voice was heard “I’ve brought some chocolates from my last trip to Hogsmeade.”
The boy hurriedly sprang to his feet, dusting off his uniform and fixing the state of his messy bed. He tries to hide all the other embarrassing scattered items of his roommates. Shoving Sirius’ dirty underwear to Peter’s trunk and kicking James’ box of pies that have started to grow mould under his bed.
“Uh, yes, come in.” Remus says, hiding his slight pant from the hurried ‘tidying up’ “Hello, there.”
“Hi, Handsome,” She greets as she enters, closing the door behind her “I wanted to give you this after the trip but Sirius wouldn’t let me visit.”
“Oh,” He says, taking the small parcel with a grateful smile “You need not to.”
“Need not what?”
“Brought me chocolates or to visit me.”
“Why not?” She asked, now taking a seat to the edge of his bed “I wanted to.”
Again, Remus could only find himself smiling and nodding without a word. His hand unconsciously travels to his cheek, still trying to cover the flaw from her.
“Come, sit.” She patted the spot next to her “Why are you so quiet?”
Remus sat down. He left a little space between them, still unsure about his whole predicament.
Her eyes were glued on him. Remus could feel the thousand of questions forming in her head. He too would want to ask questions if someone was acting the same way he’s acting. It was just too strange, too suspicious. Nothing about his gesture was normal and Remus hates that she has to be the one he’s keeping most secret from.
Gently, her hand reaches for his. Remus closes his eyes, letting his scar to be seen once more. He fears seeing her disgusting gaze. He already has that big scar that runs across his cheek. In his mind, he thought that he couldn’t get any uglier than he already is, yet with each full moon he just has to be proven wrong.
But instead of hearing her sickened remarks, Remus was taken off guard when he felt her fingers slowly tracing the new scar. Her touch was gentle. As if she was scared she would hurt him in the process. Remus slowly let his eyes flutter open. He was welcomed by that very blissful sight, of her gazing into him as if he was the most beautiful creature she’s ever laid eyes on.
“Is this okay?” She whispers “Am I hurting you?”
“No,” He says “It feels nice.”
She smiled at him before taking her hands off of him. She was looking down, her expression was hard for him to read and Remus could feel his blood slowly turning cold. This must be it. This must be the time where she would tell him how she finds him awful to look at.
“Can I confess something, Remus?”
Here we go, Remus thought as he nodded.
“I hate waiting to see you. I hate that you’re always sick and I can never seem to visit you whenever you do. I hate that your friends seem to be hiding you away from me every time I want to see you.” She started, now looking back up to see his eyes “But I’ve come to learn that with every wait, every hold and linger I have to see you, it was all worth it because when I finally do see you, everything was alright.”
His eyes softened, completely not expecting to hear her sweet words.
“You’re such a sight for sore eyes, Remus.” She continues “Like waiting up all night for sunrise. Sometimes I wonder if staring at you for too long would blind me, but I don’t think I care much about it.”
Remus smiles as she chuckles on her last words.
Now her hand finds its way back to his cheek, cupping it gently as her thumb caresses his scar softly, “I wish there was a way for you to see yourself from my eyes.”
Remus closes his eyes, trying to melt into her touch entirely.
“You’re beautiful, Remus.” She says “It should be a crime how people don’t tell you as often as they should.”
“You don’t think my scars are ugly?”
“No, never,” She answers firmly “I’ve always wondered how you always manage to get a new one every time you got sick, but never have I ever thought of them ugly.”
With that, she places a gentle kiss on his cheek.
“I would kiss every inch of your scar if you let me.”
Remus blushed.
“In the appropriate area, of course.” She says with a laugh before turning her mischievous grin back on “Unless..”
“Stop it,” Remus chuckles, nudging on her shoulder “You’re so cheeky.”
“There’s the laugh I so missed about!”
Remus could feel his heart filled with warmth and love now. His gaze travels from her eyes and down to her lips. Oh how pleasant would it be to taste them. But would she want that? Is it safe for him to try his luck today?
“You should go for it,” She says as if she could read his mind “I’ve been waiting forever, if I was being honest, but you do you. Like I said, I don’t mind waiting.”
Again, Remus chuckles at her commentary. He now begins to lean in, trying to close the gap between them as she’s given her consent to it. Their eyes were closed now, heart thumping loud from the excitement and anticipation. They could feel the hot breath of each other fanning their faces as their nose began to touch. But before they could finally seal their lips together, a loud knock was heard on the door.
“Are you guys decent or are you still shagging each other?” Sirius shouts “Can I come in?”
“I’m going to kill him,” Remus mutters, huffing as they pull away “Him and James, both.”
“Kiss me first before you do,” She says with a chuckle.
“Yes, Ma’am.”
And for once, Remus finally cut to the chase and sealed their lips.
Completely engrossed by the toe-curling feeling as you bounced in your boyfriend’s lap, eyes blissfully shut, you heard him say, “yeah?” in a weirdly normal tone compared to how his other enthusiastic comments had sounded. Blinking your eyes open, your dazed movements stopped at once as you saw that his phone was pressed up against his cheek, “hey, what’s up, mate?”
“What are you doing?” you hissed, eyes growing wide at his audacity.
“Shh,” he tilted the phone for a moment to tell you, “keep going,” and then, with his other hand sneaking up to pinch your pebbly nipple, went right back to the call like there wasn’t anything unusual going on, “yeah, what was that, James?”
“Oh my god, I will not!” you whispered sharply, his girth still frozen deep within you.
Not taking your horrified expression to heart, Remus simply slipped his free hand down your body and began to skilfully play with your swollen little pearl, causing your whole body to convulse in his lap as he continued his conversation, “oh yeah, totally, I’d be down for that. Maybe at like, fuck,” he cursed breathlessly as you clambered down around him, “at five-ish?” undoubtedly on the verge of just saying fuck it and let himself buck up into your warmth, his phone still remaining by his ear.
A Week Too Long || Remus Lupin
Summary: Request - As always I have another request. Can do you a small thingy of Remus x sleepy reader? Like just always tired and would rather nap together than go out. Maybe she falls asleep at breakfast and then the rest of the marauders go looking for them two and find them napping in bed together? Just something cute and simple about cuddles and being sleepy together 💕💕
A/N: I love sweet and soft Remus. Thank you for the request @loving-and-dreaming !!
Pairing: Remus Lupin x Y/N
Word Count: 1.6k+
It had been another night of rather tragic sleep. It happened every year when you got back to Hogwarts. It’s like your brain failed to comprehend what the hell sleep was. You didn’t know if it was the excitement of being back and being around everybody again, the nerves for a new school year, your worry for your werewolf boyfriend or what had you up all night, but sleep evaded you for the better part of it.
“Hey.” Marlene giggled waving a hand in front of your face, “Are you even listening to me?”
Your glazed over eyes snapped back into focus, “Sorry Marls.” You sighed, “I didn’t sleep well last night.”
She frowned, “Again?” Looping her arm with yours she guided you along the corridor towards the Great Hall.
“Every year.” You shrugged bringing your hands up to your eyes. You tried to rub the sleepiness away, but it didn’t seem to help much. Your eyelids felt like cinder blocks that kept wanting to be dragged down and down.
“What’s that about anyway?” She asked spotting your friends from the doorway.
You let a yawn out before answering her, “I dunno. Think I just got to get used to it again. I’ll be fine in a few days.”
She all but dragged you over to the table. You felt like you were going to fall asleep with your eyes open at this rate, “Remus, your girlfriend.” Marlene unhooked herself from you before bouncing off to sit somewhere else. Did she just drop you off with your boyfriend?
“Darling,” His smile dropped when he saw your state, “Sit down, what’s wrong?” Shooting up from his seat he made you sit down with a gentle touch. You were so tired you hadn’t heard the snickers from his, and now your, friends from behind you.
“Rem, I’m fine. Just tired.” You let out another yawn. Your brain desperate for some oxygen to wake you the hell up.
“Yeah Remy, she’s fine.” James teased turning his voice up an octave earning a glare from Remus as he sat back down next to you.
“Bugger off James.” Remus turned back to you making sure to flip his friend off in the process.
“Didn’t know Remus had it in him.” Sirius just had to add in. He leaned forward on the table, an amused expression gracing his lips as his eyes bounced between the two of you. The two of you were nothing new, having been going strong for over two years now. Naturally, you’d grown quite close with his shithead friends that you really did love. They were everything and more for Remus and that meant to the world to you. An incredible human loved by more incredible humans.
You peaked over giving him a broad smile, “James, Sirius, Peter… lovely to see you all again. How was your holiday?” You asked to nobody in particular letting out another yarn trying your darndest to keep your eyes open.
Without hesitation, Remus guided your head to his shoulder. He should’ve known. He saw you like this last year and you’d always mentioned how the start of the year left you sleepless.
“It was fine.” James grinned seeing the soft side of his long-time werewolf friend come out. James would never admit it, but he dreamed of a relationship like the two of yours. The two of you were each other’s safe spaces. You told each other everything. You also gave the other person enough space to grow and flourish on their own. Only pulling them back when they needed it.
Sirius nodded turning back to you. His smile grew into a sneaky little grin seeing your eyes close on Remus’ shoulder, “Let’s just say I’m glad to be back. And she looks like she is too.” You felt Remus’ hands run through your hair. You just knew he was throwing a glare at his best friend. Probably telling him to shut the hell up. Remus always made sure to put you first, even in front of his friends. It never ceased to make your heart swell with the utmost love.
You smiled letting the group know you heard them. Truth was you were glad to be back. You were more than thrilled to be back with your best friends and boyfriend. How cool was it that you got to spend the next ten months with them? Coming from a muggle home the concept of Hogwarts never ceased to amaze you. You were more than thankful for everything your life had thrown at you, no matter how stressful being twelve was. Imagine, you thought you knew the world and then you were thrown into an entirely new one.
“When the bell rings what do you say we skip potions and go take a nap instead?” He asked whispering into your ear
You opened an eye looking right at in not knowing if you heard him right, “Did my studious boyfriend just suggest skipping class?” You soft smile turned into one much wider knowing you’d corrupted him down to the core in the most innocent way possible. Sleep and snuggles were now his weakness. You, sleep and snuggles was all he needed to survive in this world.
He nodded quickly peaking his eyes back at his oblivious friends, “Slughorn probably won’t even notice love. Let’s get you nice and rested up for charms after lunch. How does that sound?” He gave your nose a quick kiss earning a gag from Peter and a snicker from James. Menaces, all of them.
You nodded almost breathless from the sheer intimacy of the moment, not even his friends could ruin it, “That sounds amazing Remy.” You nodded with the lightest touch of a blush on your cheeks. Even after all this time he still made you feel those butterflies like it was the first time all over again.
As if time was reading your mind the bell chimed letting students know it was time to get a start to their day. Remus waved off his friends letting them get a head start. He knew they wouldn’t get nervous until class started and the two of you didn’t show up. He knew their alone time was limited so the second they disappeared from the Great Hall he tapped your shoulder whispering, “Let’s go love, let’s get some sleep.” He pulled you up beside him softly before walking you back to the Gryffindor common room.
It was all a blissful blue of happiness up until you heard James’ obnoxious laugh echoing from the bubble Remus placed around you. Perks of having a genius boyfriend, he knew all the useful charms. You grinned seeing your boyfriend try and shush his loud roommates trying not to wake you up.
He looked back, his shoulders visibly deflated seeing your eyes open. You heard a faint, “You guys woke her up!” Before he cast the charm away with a simple flick.
“It’s our room too!” Sirius whined sitting down on the foot of his bed.
Peter nodded agreeing with his friend, “Yeah!”
You yawned stretching your arms out towards your boyfriend. A lopsided grin crossed his face seeing you reach out for him so needily. He obliged, walking towards you quickly. You nuzzled your head into his chest once he pulled you back into him, “It’s okay boys. I needed to get up anyhow.” The steady beat of Remus’ heart had other plans for you though. Your eyes shut again once he began running his hands through your hair letting you sink fully into him.
You didn’t notice that Remus cast the spell once more silencing you into a bubble once more. He shooed them out successfully letting you fall asleep for another little bit. Remus continued to stroke your hair smiling down at his sleepy girlfriend. He couldn’t believe how truly lucky he was to have you in his life. He planned to have you in it for a long, long time more now knowing he could do it. He could be a part time monster and you still loved him.
“Hi Remy.” You soft voice tore him away from his thoughts.
He looked down at you with a sweet smile, “Hi love, sleep okay?”
Nodding quickly, you answered him, “Better than I have in a while.”
Leaning down he kissed your temple, “Good.” He kissed you once more before continuing, “I missed you.”
You giggled, “it’s only been a week since I’ve seen you Rem.”
He shrugged, “A week too long.” He pulled you in closer to him. He smelled your hair always loving the scent of your shampoo. It always brought him comfort when he needed it most. The two of you had made it a point to see each other a few times throughout the summer when the other wasn’t traveling. Yes, he’d seen you a week ago, but it was too quick of a trip to your parents’ house. He wasn’t able to do this, no not at all. This was what he wanted and craved. You in his arms snoozing away. This was his version of heaven. You were the something he’d always dreamed of.
You nodded, “A week too long, indeed.”
He leaned down to capture your lips on his. His sweet kisses always seemed to catch you off guard. When he pulled away your cheeks were ablaze, pupils blown out in love, terribly breathless. Remus grinned seeing the state he left you in, “I love you, Y/N.”
“Love you so much Remy.” You grinned laying your head down on his chest once more letting him hold you. You knew he’d get you going for charms if he really wanted to. This too was your version of heaven and you too weren’t terribly keen on giving it up.
Hermione knocked on the door of the small house.
It was Dumbledore's idea- going to the house of Cassiopeia Malfoy.
But Dumbledore was gone, and now it was up to the trio.
The door opened slowly.
A small woman with the infamous white Malfoy hair peered through the crack. "H…Hello?"
Hermione gave a small smile, "Hello. We're looking for Cassiopeia Malfoy."
The woman's eyebrows furrowed, but her voice remained quiet, "What do you want with her?"
Harry stepped forward, "We have some questions. About this."
He held up the fake locket.
Even Ron noticed the widening of her eyes and the quickening of her breath.
"…Come in."
…
The woman set down four cups of hot tea and sat in one of the chairs of the living room. "How did you know I knew about this?"
Ron piped up, "Kreature mentioned you."
Her head tilted, "Kreature? Kreature talked about me?"
"Yeah," Harry chirped as he took a sip of the tea. "He said you took the locket. To keep him from getting hurt."
"That's true," she said. "I couldn't leave him like that. Everyone knows where the Black house is. I could hide it away and no one would know."
"Hide it?" Hermione asked. "What's your connection to the Blacks?"
"My connection?" She almost scoffed. "I am a Black. Somewhat."
The trio gave each other confused looks.
"Oh. You… you didn't… I didn't… um…" Her eyes widened as she looked away.
"You knew Sirius. He said that." Harry said. "Did you… marry him?"
The woman gave out a laugh, "Merlin, no!" She pushed a strand of her curly hair behind her ear. "No, no. Sirius and I were wonderful friends, yes. But, no. I was married to Regulus."
"You married Regulus Black?" Hermione asked in shock.
"I didn't know he was married," Ron quirked.
"That was the point," Cassiopeia said. "After… after James and Lily died- the day they died- Regulus and I married."
"While you were still in school?" Hermione asked again.
"Yes," she said. "We loved each other so much. But, we feared that something could happen to us, and we married that day. If we were to die, we wanted to be married first."
"That's romantic," Hermione sighed.
"That's bloody ridiculous," Ron scoffed.
"Ronald!" Hermione scorned.
"No, it was." Cassiopeia said. "But, it worked. Regulus died not long after and… I still carry the name."
"Cassiopeia… Black?" Harry asked.
She nodded. "But no one else knows that."
She snapped out of her thoughts, "Right. The locket."
Harry gripped it in his hand, "Locket? I thought it was just a pendant."
"Oh, no." She said. "A locket. But it holds something wicked inside."
"The horcrux." Hermione chimed in.
"Yes. A horcrux. Let me… um…" She stood and disappeared into one of the side rooms of her home. They heard the sound of digging in one of the drawers before she appeared again, "Here it is."
In her hand, a horcrux of Lord Voldemort dangled delicately.
Harry held a hand up to his forehead in pain.
"It was the last thing Regulus did- getting this, I mean." She stated.
Ron held out his hand, taking the locket in his hand. "What happened exactly?"
"It's complicated. You know how to destroy a horcrux?"
Harry shrugged, "No, but we intend to find out."
"Well, if surviving in that cave is any indication, I'd say you three can figure it out."
Her words provided little comfort.
Harry moved forward in his seat, "I know I'm simply prying but-"
"-But how did he die?" Cassiopeia guessed.
Harry nodded.
"He was drowned by the Inferi."
"He died IN the cave?" Harry asked.
She nodded, sipping her tea again. Her voice was barely heard, "yes."
The three noticed the shaking in her hands.
"Please. Tell us what happened?" Hermione pleaded.
She sighed and set the cup down, "Regulus was a calculated man. He knew what he was doing. He gained the trust of the Dark Lord. He was… he was in the higher ranks. But when Sirius was charged falsely for betraying your parents, Regulus knew the truth and vowed to find a way to kill Voldemort. He… discovered the horcruxes and… well…"
Harry nodded and opened his mouth to say more, but paused when he heard the front door open and a familiar voice ring throughout the home, "Sophie?"
Cassiopeia turned her head to look over her shoulder, "I'm in here, love."
The trio felt the air leave their lungs as Remus Lupin rounded the corner.
He paused, "Oh. Harry, Ron, Hermione. I didn't… I wasn't expecting you three."
He stepped toward the woman and placed his hands on her shoulders, "Is everything alright?"
"Yes, Harry is just here to ask about Regulus."
Remus nodded, "I see."
"I'm so sorry," Hermione chimed in. "I have to ask…"
Cassiopeia sighed as her cheeks turned red, "It's a… newer development. Things have been hard for us as of late, and… we find… solace in each other."
They both loved a Black brother.
And both of those brothers were dead.
Remus nodded and bent down to kiss the crown of her head. "I'll make supper. You three stay tonight."
"No, that's alright, Remus-" Harry said.
"-Nonsense." Remus chided. "It's dangerous for you three right now. Stay at least tonight. For me."
The three debated and communicated through their eyes before Harry nodded, "That would be lovely. Thank you."
…
It was relieving to Harry to finally get to see two people that truly loved each other interact in such a domestic state: making supper.
Their hands brushed occasionally and they shared a smile each time.
He couldn't help but stare.
Even as Remus pulled one of her arms towards him. She absentmindedly let him, immersed in her cooking. He pulled the sleeve of her shirt to her elbow and rubbed the faded dark mark that resided there.
She quickly turned to look at him.
He gave a sweet smile and gently kissed her wrist, then kissed her cheek.
She smiled and shooed him away.
…
"Why have you never mentioned her before?" Harry asked Remus after dinner.
The man sighed, "It's too complicated."
"Well, we have time." Harry scoffed.
"No, you need your rest. Sleep and we'll talk in the morning. I'll help you get anything you need for the road."
"Thank you, Remus."
"-Remus?" Cassiopeia almost whispered as she leaned against the doorframe of the kitchen.
Remus could feel himself melting at her tired eyes. "Yes, dove?"
"When are you coming to bed?"
His eyes flicked to Harry, then back to her, "In just a moment, darling, I promise."
She nodded and rubbed her eyes. She turned back to her room and muttered a quiet, "G'night, Harry."
Harry made a note of the light in Remus's eyes.
"Tell me." Remus concluded, "Did she tell you what you needed to know?"
Harry shrugged, "I mean…. I still don't know how to destroy it, but I have it now, and that's all I needed from her."
Remus nodded, and pulled his lips into a thin line in thought.
"I'm sorry," Harry piped up, "about Regulus. That must have been hard for her."
"You've no idea," Remus muttered. "She's always been a sweet soul. Even back at Hogwarts. Everyone loved her."
"How the hell did she end up marrying Regulus?" Harry asked.
"She was a Hufflepuff. The Malfoys were outraged. But Regulus managed to talk Lucius into keeping ties with her. After all, that was his sister. But… Regulus took an interest in her. Who wouldn't?" Remus leaned back in his seat, reminiscing out loud for Harry. "And they secretly dated for almost a year before we found out- me, Sirius, Peter, and your father. She ran around in some of our circles. Peter was infatuated with her. We teased him about it all of the time but Sirius would always get mad."
Harry felt a smile come to his face at the thought of his parents' time at the school.
"Regulus and Sophie were still in school, their seventh year when your parents died. Seeing Sirius accused and sent to Askaban. It sent Regulus into a tailspin. They were married after that."
"Yeah, she mentioned that."
"Well, Regulus came to the Order and offered information. We accepted. Not long after, we heard of his death."
Harry furrowed his brows, "But surely Cassiopeia would've stopped him from going, right?"
Remus ran a hand over his face and sighed, "No. He promised her he'd take her… to ease her spirits. But he left in the morning before she awoke. Left her a note. And never came back." He chewed on his lip before continuing, "She didn't find out what happened until Kreature came back and told her."
"And… the dark mark?"
"Ah, yes. Um… She joined when she was dating Regulus. It was to please everyone's families so they could be married. But, she wasn't ever loyal to Voldemort. And Regulus didn't make her attend meetings. He couldn't bare to corrupt her like that."
The boy who lived was finally starting to understand. "And you two…"
Remus chuckled, "We used to be wonderful friends at Hogwarts. Studied together. Never any romantic feelings. Wasn't until after Sirius died that we grew attached to each other."
Cassiopeia appeared in the doorway again, her hair awry this time and wearing pajamas, "-Remus? You promised."
"And so I did, Sophie." He stood and walked to her, taking her waist in his hands gently. "Good night, Harry. We'll talk in the morning."
Harry could hear the two wandering down the hall as Remus cooed, "Let's get you to bed, sweet woman."
It made the boy's heart happy.
In another world, he thought, they'd be beyond happy.
He flipped the locket over and over in his hand, lost in thought.
Cassiopeia Black. Hmm.
