CC Creation Tutorial: Smooth Seams in Blender

In this tutorial, I will show you how to make your mesh seams smooth inside Blender (no Milkshape required!) and walk you through the process step by step. We will make a perfectly smooth mesh and transfer the normal data from that mesh to our main mesh using the Data Transfer modifier.

I am using Blender 3.6 in this tutorial (though you should be able to follow along using other versions as well)

You do not need to have much previous knowledge to follow this tutorial, but I assume you know some basics in Blender like how to select, things, navigate around, etc, and know how to import the meshes and put them into Blender.

For this tutorial, I exported the Sims 3 afbodyEP4DressPromBigBow mesh with TSR Workshop. You can use any clothing mesh you like though, and works on any meshes, not just Sims 3 ones.

This is our mesh. You can already tell that it has the dreaded seams on the neck and the rest of the body.

First, we need to make a copy of the mesh (in Object mode, select the mesh and hit Ctrl+D Shift+D to duplicate it, then hit Esc to stop it from moving around).

Rename the mesh (I added Seamless to the mesh name).

Make sure the original mesh is hidden (click the eye symbol) and select the Seamless mesh.

Press the Tab key to go into Edit Mode.

Now we select the parts that we want to have smooth seams. Let's select everything that is skin (you can select a litte piece of the mesh and then press Ctrl+L to select the entire piece)!

Now, press M and in the menu, choose By Distance. (in older versions, this is called Remove Doubles).

This will remove all double vertices at the seams on the selection we made.

It will show you how many vertices it removed. The skin looks nice and smooth!

Let's switch back to our original mesh: Make sure you deactivate the eye on the Seamless mesh and activate the eye again on the main mesh. Then, select the main mesh.

Now, let's add a data modifier to our main mesh. Click the blue wrench icon in the vertical list of the properties panel and then onto Add Modifier, then choose Data Transfer from the list.

As the source, we choose our Seamless mesh.

Also toggle on Face Corner Data and click the Custom Normals button.

Hold on, there is a message saying that we should enable Auto Smooth in Object Data Properties. Let's do that next! (if the message does not appear for you, maybe Auto Smooth is already on).

Click the green inverted triangle button and in the Normals section, toggle on Auto Smooth.

Now we can switch back to the modifier tab by clicking the blue wrench icon again.

But hang on, what happened to our mesh? There are now black spots over the dress and shadows on the legs!

This is due to the Data transfer modifier's Mapping setting. If we change it to Topology, our mesh goes back to normal again. Phew!

Now that the normals look good, we can start the transfer of our new smooth normals from the seamless mesh to our main mesh. To do that, we hit the Generate Data Layers button. This button works destructively, so you cannot undo what it did, just FYI.

Note: On newer versions of Blender, Generate Data Layers may not be enough to transfer the normals and you may need to apply the modifier instead.

You can toggle the modifier's visuals on and off with the little screen icon to see the results after you click Generate Data Layers to see if it stuck. If it did not (and you see the seams of your base mesh when toggling it off), try to apply it instead.

I switched from textured to solid shading because the differences are just more noticeable in this mode. This is how our mesh looks now with the modifier turned off.

Because we clicked the transfer button, the normals have been permanently applied to our mesh. The skin is smooth now, and so is the dress (even though we did not smooth that one, hmm...)

If we toggle the modifier back on, suddenly the dress has seams again! What's going on there? I'm not exactly sure why, but Auto Smooth seems to be doing some smoothing on the dress mesh as well.

I am not sure if this is normal behavior or not, but let's pretend that this did not happen and the modifier in fact did not smooth the dress.

Maybe we just forgot to smooth some areas on the Seamless mesh that we noticed only later on. That's no problem. We simply modify our Seamless mesh again!

So let's swap back to the seamless mesh and select it (remember to click the eye icons so only the Seamless mesh is visible).

Let's select the main dress parts and press M -> merge by distance on them. We cannot smooth the whole dress all at once, because then that would remove some seams that we want (like those for the backfaces and the middle section of the dress where the bow is attached).

If we remove the wrong seams, we ruin our normals and will have black splotches.

Now, let's select the backfaces and areas we left out before and repeat this process: M -> merge by distance.

Look at how perfect our Seamless mesh is looking now! Now, let's transfer those beautiful normals to our main mesh.

Select the main mesh and toggle the eye icons again, to hide our Seamless mesh and reveal our main mesh.

Once again, we will use the Generate Data Layers button in our Data Transfer modifier. If you have previously applied the modifier, just add the modifier again to the main mesh and use the settings shown here.

And that's it, you are done! You have a perfectly smoothed mesh that you can export now.

Final Note: it is best to transfer the normals at the very end of your meshing process because any action that recalculates the normals can reset our custom-made smooth normals again.

Of course, you can simply use the Generate Data Layers button again to re-add them, but it saves you time to only do this step at the end.

I almost forgot to say: You still have to use Mesh Toolkit to fix the seams on the edges of your mesh and do the usual shenanigans.

Fixed a bug in the post editor that was allowing multiple native videos to be uploaded in the same post, and in reblogs, which could cause errors and the post being lost.

We’re aware that posts have been marked with a “Mature” community label incorrectly, and the appeals process failed. We’re working to resolve these issues ASAP and ensure it does not happen again. We’re truly sorry about this, it’s not acceptable for us to mess up this process.

There is a bug in the Android app causing it to crash if certain gifts are earned. We have a fix for this coming in the next version of the Android app.

We’re aware of a bug in the activity view in the iOS app which is duplicating the blog name in the activity text. We have a fix coming in the next app version here, too.

Orbit playback feature - to allow us to replay directional orbit stages that we've already cleared

A "Sleeping next to him" quality time feature that lets us listen to the LI breathing. Maybe with a bedtime story that we can collect through gameplay or the chocolate shop too

An "Eating with him" quality time where you... eat with him

An alarm clock feature where we can set an alarm and our chosen LI will say good morning to us. Also maybe reminder alerts to work out and go to bed

The Kiss interaction in the cafe that the Chinese server got

More Zayne animations

More animations with visible MC interacting with the boys

Let us exchange large ascension crystals for smaller ones

Let us exchange duplicate plushie/kitty badges for something useful

Add EXP to memories used in battle after a win

Let us save our voice/language preferences for each individual LI

Make in-game friends more meaningful with interactions, power ups, etc. Such as borrowing a friend's cards for battles or having their main LI rescue us when we almost fail in battle

More combat modes, especially stages we can clear daily that don't need the highest level cards and will give us diamonds

I usually solve such issues in personal messages with the authors to give them the opportunity to simply apologize and not repeat their mistakes, but this situation has upset me a lot, because I wrote to you in the comments a few months ago, but you never answered me (your private messages are closed).

You steal my textures and call it your own, as well as sell it on your patreon without any permission and credits.

Let's start from the beginning.

Do I need to comment on something? She just took my skin n7, added a couple of details on face and called it her own. And she put it in early access on her patreon to make money on already free сс. She listed other authors in the credits and didn't mention anything about me.

Here she changed a bit more, but she used my skin's face as a base. And again, no mention of me in the credits.This time she didn't mention credits at all, but I see at least @obscurus-sims​ details.

And again, no difference. The textures are identical.

Honey, if a person wants to use my eyelids, he just uses it. There is no need to put my cc in early access again, which has been free for three years.

I want to say that I create my textures completely from scratch, without using EA blanks. Absolutely all the details on my skins are created by me. And as an artist, I can say with confidence that it is impossible to create a texture that will match someone else's pixel by pixel. It's impossible. Moreover, most of my textures are completely drawn by me. What refs from the Internet is she talking about? Did you take refs out of my head? By Bluetooth?

@nonvme you can still apologize and I won't hold a grudge against you. Just apologize and remove my textures from your page. If you had answered me a few months ago and corrected your mistakes, then I would not have written this post and would not have spoiled your reputation. But you didn't answer me.

I'm sorry that you all had to read so much text. I hope your day is going much better than mine.

Nonvme deleted CC that included my textures, and also promised not to use it anymore. It's enough for me to forget about this incident and don't contact patreon support.

I want to add that any author who makes his textures from scratch knows every pixel of his texture. The author of the original content will know if you have used his texture, even if you have somehow modified it. If you steal other people's textures and you haven't been caught yet, it only means that the author hasn't seen your page/cc yet, because he can't monitor the entire Internet. But one day he will find out about you, do not doubt.

Infected x reader angst, where the two of them were dating before the virus, and Infected doesn’t remember the reader? He feels drawn to them, though he can’t quite remember them. There’s flashes here and there- bits and pieces, the occasional snippet. Someone’s laugh, a pretty smile, late nights playing Mario kart or whatever. But he can’t ever quite seem to remember them

In light of the floppy disc update--my Regretevator interest has come back (and it got me out of my writer's block yippee) I finally got the "noise complaint" one so that gave me a lot of inspiration for this

To be there for each other.

For better or for worse.

In sickness and in health.

But...

What do you do when that sickness made him forget that exact promise?

Although you've come to accept his new identity as "Infected", sometimes you think he's just playing a huge prank on you. And that the next time you swung by his apartment, he'll be resting and actually taking his illness seriously, and you'd have your old boyfriend back.

Unfortunately, that wasn't the case tonight, as you invited yourself inside with a duplicate of his key that he gave you long ago. As you closed the door, he didn't immediately run out to greet you like he used to. Instead, all you heard were the rapid taps of his keyboard and mouse.

Entering the living room space, you saw him sitting at his usual spot in front of the PC, intensely focused on some game. He had his headphones on, his face mere inches away from the bright screen, scowling--totally unaware of your presence.

You could've been an armed intruder for all he knew.

"Dud3s!! DUD3S!! Y0U SUCK!! WHY AM I TH3 0NLY 0NE C4RRYING TH3 TEAM?!!" He shouted into the tiny mic. "EITH3R GET G00D OR G3T 0FF THE G4ME!!!"

With a sigh, you made yourself known to him by stepping into the room, just within his peripheral vision and leaning against the wall

The moment his eyes flickered to you, he got startled, especially as his character made the dying sound. The other team was taunting him in the chat, but for once he ignored it, his cheeks flushed pink at your unexpected arrival.

"0h, h-hey, [y/n]! Wh4t brings y0u here, bab3?" He quickly removed his headphones.

"I sent you a message an hour ago. You said you wanted to play Mario Kart tonight, right?"

"I did....? 0hhhh, right! Right...s0rry. I'll be re4dy in a sec0nd. I just..." For a moment he paused, looking down at his lap and realizing he just had his pink shirt and a pair of boxers on. "G0tta put on s0me pants-"

"I've seen you in those nyan cat boxers before." You chuckled, shaking your head.

He blinked owlishly. "Y0u have?"

"Yeah. You don't have to change if you don't wanna."

"...g00d, 'cuz I was t00 lazy t0 do that anyways." After standing up, he stared at you. "Wait, h0w did you g3t into my r00m?"

"You gave me a spare key when you first moved in here." Holding up the item in question, your smile faded a little as you saw his eyebrows furrow, struggling to recall when he did that. "I don't expect you to remember, but-"

"Don't w0rry, babe. I'll take ur w0rd for it! I w0uldn't give a sp4re key to a str4nger." With a grin, Infected walked over to hug you and kiss you on the cheek. "I'll g3t the snacks. Sh0uld I make popcorn or hot p0ckets?"

"Surprise me."

"0kay!" While he dashed off to the snack pantry, you headed to the couch to get the gaming console set up for Mario Kart. You made sure to bring the wheel-shaped controllers for a fully immersive experience.

You had little hope that tonight he'll be able to remember something--or anything about his relationship with you as Kasper...so you don't know why you've kept them so high.

After the virus took ahold of his brain, you couldn't comprehend how it could make him forget ever dating you. In fact, you scared him a bit when you mentioned being his partner and got extremely upset at his confusion. He even called you "creepy" once.

Yet despite that...he still felt drawn to you, wanting to always hang out with you in the elevator or go to a skate park or bowling. He couldn't stand to be separate from you and didn't fully understand why.

That made him question whether he's known you before...

You're sweet, you like the same things he does, you've tried helping him find Poptart, and you never made a big deal about his sickness unlike most people.

Eventually, he asked you out (again, from your perspective), and you couldn't say no.

It was both flattering and sad that he fell in love with you twice, as you now had two cheesy confession letters hanging up at home. One signed with a K, the other with an I.

You'd look at them from time to time, seeing how differently he wrote between his life then and his life now.

He can't remember ever writing the first one, no matter how hard he tried...

From the first signs of this sickness, you've kept Dr. Retro on speed dial. She once visited the apartment to inspect the virus scripted into the couch while Infected wasn't home, hoping to collect even a tiny pixel-sized sample to study.

But there was nothing. It completely attached itself to your boyfriend and infiltrated the valve system, making the entire complex hazardous to live in--so much so his next door neighbors had to leave.

By some miracle, you haven't caught it yet, and you hope to god it'll never come to that. He's gotten better about his hygiene since dating you (again), so maybe that's why you've been so lucky.

Everyone else says you should've stayed away from him, and even Lampert urged you to abandon all hope that he'll remember who he was and the relationship you two had.

But you refused to.

The fact that Infected was willing to let you back into his life showed that deep down...he knew you meant something to him. You used to be someone special in his life.

Someone he couldn't let go of, no matter how hard the virus tried.

"Sec0nd place again?? Bummer.."

"I told you, babe. You gotta expand your horizons beyond Roblox PVP games." Laughing in triumph, you set down the controller, brushing your hands against your pants. "Whew..I'll admit that got me sweating." You looked to your sulking boyfriend. "C'mon. Nobody likes a sore loser."

"I'm n0t a l0ser," he huffed, putting down his own controller. "N0t g0nna lie, that was fun." His smile turned right side up as he looked back at you. "S0 what d0 we wanna pl4y next? It's 0nly midnight."

"........."

"[Y/n]?" Infected blinked at your sudden change of expression, worried. "What's wr0ng? W4s...it s0mething I s4id?"

"No, it's just..." You hesitated, unsure if you wanted to bring it up so late in the night.

But after what you found taped to his door, you knew you two needed to have a serious talk.

"Wh4t?"

"They gave you another citation." Taking a paper out of your pocket, you skimmed it over and sighed. "For noise. This is your twelfth one. Why do you keep throwing them out? I thought you said you were gonna take care of these complaints."

"Ugh, I k33p telling them it's n0t me.." He groaned, deciding to lay his head on your lap. "Th3y're all addressed t0 Kasp3r...must be the guy from bef0re."

"Baby, nobody rented this space before you did. It's specifically talking about this apartment here. 007. Maybe they just couldn't put "Infected" as a valid name into their system."

"....yet th3y chose that n4me. Why?"

"Look, can you please just...read this over? And maybe take it seriously this time? They're close to evicting you."

His eye suddenly went wide. "Huh?? N0 way..."

"Yes way."

After some hesitance, Infected took the paper from you and read it, a frown crossing his features as he saw that the first words were "Dear Mr. Kasper".

Why couldn't they get his name right?

Why couldn't anyone?

What was wrong with "Infected"?

For a minute or so he was quiet. While he did admit to raging during late night gaming sessions and calling for Poptart since the day she went missing...it was the note that people next door could hear him "wailing in his sleep" that left a pit in his stomach.

He forgot how thin the walls were, but did they seriously hear him during all those nights where you weren't here, and he was alone, crying in his sleep over bizarre dreams and-

"I know they got your name wrong, but you gotta stop ignoring their letters." You lightly ran your fingers through his hair. It was a little greasy, but he did tell you he took a shower today, so it didn't bother you at all.

"Ye4h, alright. I'll em4il them b4ck, and t3ll them to go [CONTENT DELETED]---"

A bit startled by the sudden static garble that spilled from his mouth, you briefly took your hand away from his head. And he noticed, frowning up at you now. "Did I sc4re y0u??"

"I think you missed the part where I said "take it seriously"." You mirrored his expression, annoyed at his lack of maturity. "If you get evicted, I'm not sure where we're gonna put all your gaming stuff. So you need to figure something out, and fast."

"Why d0n't y0u tell them t0 get my nam3 right....and then I'll be willing to m4ke changes?"

"Excuse me? The lease isn't under my name. I'm not the one renting here and making my neighbors feel unsafe. You need to take responsibility for yourself."

"Why are y0u lecturing me?? Th4t's n0t cool.." Infected sat up from your lap, no longer feeling comfortable as he felt like you were being mean to him for no reason. "M4ybe moving out of here w0n't be so b4d. I'll be away fr0m that gradient fre4k, and-"

"God, that's NOT the point, Kasper--!!"

Suddenly, you realized your slip up and immediately silenced yourself. But it was too late, as you saw the dejected look in his eyes and the way his shoulders slumped. "Infected..I'm sorry-"

"Even y0u can't get my n4me right...." He scratched at his arm, feeling the virus' glitches pricking his skin like thin needles as he shuffled to the other end of the couch. "Y0u keep acting like h3's still here."

You remained silent, knowing you couldn't really say "because he is". He just wouldn't believe that. He couldn't.

"Was Kasp3r really...better than me? Was he he4lthier? M0re mature? N0t burden y0u with all this cr4p?" He looked down at his lap now, sniffling. "I'm s0rry I can't be him, [y/n]. I'm s0rry that I can't rememb3r anything. But..w-why can't y0u just acc3pt me? Am I n0t g00d enough?"

For the longest time, you stayed quiet, and he was afraid to look into your eyes, unsure of what you were going to say next.

Then you spoke.

"You're right about him being more mature."

His shoulders tensed.

"But..." You paused as he perked up. And you just gazed at the guy you fell in love with, wishing you could go back ten minutes ago--when you two were sharing laughs, hot pockets, and a round of Mario Kart--and not now, with you being the reason for those tears in his eyes.

Maybe...

You had to just forget about trying to bring back Kasper. There wasn't any cure yet, and Dr. Retro isn't even close to finding one.

It wasn't worth all this effort and arguing.

"..maybe I'm hanging onto the past too much, and not seeing what's right in front of me." Shifting closer to him, you sighed as you placed a hand over his, relieved that he didn't pull away. "Kasper and I had some good memories together. But you and I made some pretty awesome ones. When you begged me to rescue that cat in the minefield, I did and nearly got my legs blown off. But seeing your smile was worth it."

"......."

"When we visited Crem with Lampert and Melanie, you remembered my favorite flavor. Like any good boyfriend would." You added with a small chuckle, noticing his subtle nod.

Yet he stayed quiet, his eyes downcast once more so you kept talking.

"The point is..I love you, and you're good enough for me, Infected. I'm not angry at you for forgetting things. That's not your fault. I just..don't wanna see you get kicked out over some lousy complaints. That's all, okay?"

For a few long moments, there wasn't a response from him, although he sniffled a few more times. You worried he was about to sneeze, but when his gaze met yours again, you saw tears and pink snot dribbling down his face, his eyes red and puffy.

"Infected?"

"I-I still d0n't kn0w what's wr0ng with me, [y/n].." He mumbled, trying to bite back the sobs that wanted to escape. "Deep d0wn, s0mething tells me that...th-that I've always known y0u. It tells m3 th4t we've d0ne all this fun stuff bef0re. I want t0 remember, but..I-I d0n't know how. And...and..."

"And what?" You gently coaxed, squeezing his hand.

"And th4t's what keeps m3 up at night. N0t just the gam3s. It m4kes me feel like a [CONTENT DELETED] B0yfriend, and...I...owww--" Suddenly, he felt a sharp pain in his head, and he brought his other hand to it. "My h3ad's killing me.." Chills ran through his body, and he felt himself growing feverish.

"Again? Oh jeez.."

"Wh-What d0 y0u mean "again"?" He coughed.

"You keep having these flareups. I guess your sickness doesn't like our deep convos that much." You frowned a little. "Come here."

Once more, he laid down in your lap again, only this time curling up and shuddering with small sobs. You could see the virus attacking his body and senses again as he groaned in pain, trying to shelter his face from the suddenly harsh light.

In the early stages of his infection, he used to get these bad flare ups every other day, sometimes even calling you in the dead of night crying and whining. But they never became this bad while you were present.

'Is it..hurting him so he stops remembering?' You wondered, deciding to make a mental note to ask Dr. Retro about that. But for now, you just grabbed the blanket that was hanging over the couch and set it down on him, hoping it would help him rest.

For the first time, he was willing to accept that something is in fact wrong with him.

He wanted to remember all the things that you did together.

So maybe...Kasper wasn't really gone just yet.

Maybe there's hope after all.

Before focusing on my master’s thesis, I worked for a brief period for an organization supporting victims of cyber sex crimes. My job was to put each and every case of illegally filmed footage assigned to me through a search engine and if I found that the images had been uploaded to certain sites, I would beg the operator of that site to take those images down. 

The process of searching and subsequently scrubbing illegally filmed footage probably isn’t what most people would expect. There is no advanced AI that categorizes footage based on the faces of victims, lists the sites the footage is uploaded to, and sends automated requests for the deletion of such posts. Instead, employees and volunteers divide each reported video frame by frame, put each fragmented frame through search engines, organize each site the footage is posted to on a spreadsheet, collate the sites for verification, find the site operator’s email or contact channel, and write a message that read, “This video is illegally filmed footage so we ask that you remove it from your site. If it is not removed, the South Korean government may take action against the site pursuant to relevant laws,” translate it from Korean into English and then send it to the operator.

This happened daily. Sometimes, you would have to go through 100 or 200 cases a day. I’ve assigned a nickname to this procedure: “The Illegally Filmed Footage Removal Protocol that Seems Absurdly Advanced, But Basically Follows the Same Grueling Procedures as a Sweatshop.”

The biggest challenge when fighting digital sex crimes is their overwhelming breadth and scale. It was impossible for us, as we sat in front of our computer screens, to estimate which far-out depths of the internet any of the footage had reached. 

Even if we painstakingly found 20 posts using a particular photo and saw that every post was erased, the next day we would see the photo spring up in 40 different posts. Websites distributing illegally filmed footage make various backup sites with different domains to make sure that sites are up and running even if the main site is taken down. 

Many of the sites in question have servers based abroad, so even if you sent a beseeching email citing South Korean laws, they simply could just pretend that they never saw the email.

The terror of that vast scope goes beyond distribution and duplication. While deepfake pornography has been in the news recently, photoshopping a real person’s face onto a pornographic image has been a crime for some time now.

The difference is that producing such images used to be time-consuming and technically challenging, requiring the “manual” manipulation of images. But the new tool of AI has made it easy for anyone to instantaneously create deepfakes in a dizzying variety of formats.

Another frightening aspect is that anyone with access to photographs on social media can choose victims at random. And since the images are “fakes” created by AI, the perpetrator can deliberately duck the guilt of harming a real person.

Deepfake creation has spread so rapidly because it gives perpetrators a perverse sense of power over their victims — the ability to create dozens of humiliating images of someone from photographs scraped off Instagram — while also enabling them to ignore victims’ suffering because the images aren’t technically “real.” In short, deepfakes represent a game-changing acceleration of the production cycle of sexually exploitative media.

Those images spread far too fast for the handful of employees at nonprofits to keep up with. Facing such a vast challenge, permanent employees began to drift away, and their positions were once again filled by people on short-term contracts.

Lee Jun-seok, a lawmaker with the Reform Party, said during a meeting of the National Assembly’s Science, ICT, Broadcasting and Communications Committee that the 220,000 members of a deepfake channel on Telegram was an “overblown threat” and estimated that, given the percentage of Korean users on Telegram, only about 726 of the channel members are actually Koreans.

But what does it matter whether there are 220,000 Koreans on the channel or just 726?

Let’s suppose there aren’t even 726, but just 10 people in the group — they could still produce 220,000 deepfakes if they set their mind to it. Those images would then be copied and circulated beyond their point of origin and around the world, perhaps remaining permanently in some dark corners of the Internet without ever being deleted.

That’s the nature of sex crimes in the digital age.

So assuming that the criminal potential of this technology remains the same regardless of whether the channel has 220,000 members, 726 members or even just 10, I can’t help wondering what Lee thinks would be an acceptable number of deepfake purveyors that would not constitute an “overblown threat.”

It crashes when I click on these roof pieces in game, they work if I remove your cc and I've been using them for years.

I've checked GUIDs, they are not the same but some are similar. I'm sure it's something only with my game, as I have way too much cc. I don't expect you to fix it or anything. But just out of curiosity, could you download that set and click on it in your game, to see if it crashes for you too or to confirm that it's just me. Only when you have the time! Hey suratan-zir, you're not bothering me at all, I'm happy if I can contribute to straighten things out. And you can spam me with likes as much as you like. 😁

Unfortunately, I think I cannot help you in this specific case. I put the century-manor-roof pieces into my download folder and ran everything through SimPE's GUID scanner. There were no duplicates, meaning there is no GUID conflict either. Besides, a GUID conflict wouldn't normally crash the game, it would only prevent an object from appearing in the game. Things that have been crashing my game in the past mostly had to do with the CRES, GMND or BHAV.

After checking the GUIDs, I booted the game, visited a lot in Belladonna Cove and went to the architecture category. I clicked on all the roof pieces and neither of them crashed my game.

After closing the game again, I opened some of the roof piece files and (at first glance) couldn't detect anything that could somehow conflict with any of my files. So I really don't know why my CC is causing you trouble. As far as I can remember, I've never cloned anything from the architecture menu until now, the only overlapping "data" would be the windows.

I'll post your ask for everyone to see, so if anybody reading this has any other idea for me to check or test, please step forward. Thank you in advance!

The Sims 4: New Game Patch (April 16th, 2024)

EA is releasing a new game update for The Sims 4 ahead of the release of the two upcoming kits, Urban Homage and Party Essentials.

The Sims Direct Communication shared a tweet that the patch will resolve the issue with an error message that is being shown to some players. See it below.

If you have auto updates enabled in Origin’s “Application Settings”, the game will auto-update once you open Origin. If you have auto-updates disabled, you will need to manually update by clicking the game in your library.

These changes include removing the “floating” avatar on web and moving it into the post header, moving post info like “Pinned” and “Based on your likes” into the main header instead of an additional header, removing duplication of blog names and Follow buttons, and other small visual design refreshes.

We’re also rolling out a change to the iOS and Android apps that lets you use the hardware volume buttons on your device to mute/unmute videos.

On web, we’ve made some updates to how direct messaging works to improve the real-time connection on flakey networks. Previously, direct messages could sporadically stop arriving unless you closed and reopened the conversation window if your connection to Tumblr faltered for a few seconds.

We’re still working to fix an issue in the iOS app that’s been causing the messaging/activity nav bar item to not be updated properly with a count of how many unread activity items you have. Sometimes it gets stuck and loses count, even though you’re receiving activity.

Hi there! It's actually pretty simple, I drag the video I wanna use into PS, at first I make the size full, so in that gif's case it was 500px wide, do the coloring, sharpening, etc. After I export it, I open it again in PS, prepare it for export again (usually have to adjust the frame delay and remove the very first frame as it's always janky). Then I make a copy of the file, basically duplicate it like this:

After that, I use the cropping tool to make the smaller 245px wide versions like this:

So basically do one side on the original, and the other on the copy. Then just export both and that's it! Hope this makes sense! Have fun giffing! <3

enjatoki's horse ranch stuff

I recieved a PM from Mortire over at GOS, instead of me explaining again I'll simply copy-paste the message :-)

Hej vegan_kaktus! I saw a note that enjatoki's tumblr has disappeared, so I zipped up all the files I have from them. The folder with everything where you can pick and choose is here. Here's the link to download everything in one go. Previews and swatches are included. These links include everything kestrelteen's uploaded, with more recolours, so more complete (though I cannot say if it is absolutely everything). For the ranch items, in set part 3 I have included some personal edits of some items to include subsets. I did not have most of the GTW files la fee verte uploaded, so there is minimal overlap with that reupload.

Hi again. I was in a bit of a hurry earlier, so I forgot one folder of files - ep13-WellTravelledShelves. I have added them to the main download, and as a separate download in the folder. I should also have mentioned that for the four objects I've added subsets to, I have renamed the mesh files, but not the recolour files, though they were also edited to allow for the new subsets. If anyone have these items already, and just want the updated files, it is important to delete the MESH and recolour files you already have so as not to get any duplicate textures. The following information is only relevant for anyone that already have these items and just want to have versions with subsets. 7. Do they have their own personal quest that spans the course of the game?  Can it take different branching paths depending on the choices the Player Character makes?

I'm calling it:

A Cold-Hearted Pal

Quest Act 1:

Triggered when the player loots a piece of the Mourning Frost staff in the Underdark. Can obviously be missed if you only travel through the Mountain Pass, but Étoile will not leave the party if it's missed.

A. If the player character cures Dhourn Ba'Tol of petrification, Étoile will notice that he has the Icy Helve, and will take it off Dhourn's person.

Étoile: Where did you find this?

Dhourn: Excuse me, faerie—

Étoile, shoving against his collar: Where did you find this?

Narrator: Your companion has pulled a long shaft of metal from the Drow's belongings. Cold radiates from the Helve, crackling upon the air like too-cold-ice left to separate in tepid water. A ring of snowflakes coil around the hand guard.

[Lolth sworn drow women only] Quickly, whelp.

[Intimidation] I think you better tell them.

[Intimidation] I think you better tell them, I won't be so kind.

Étoile, stand down.

Just watch.

Dhourn: I bought it. Spoils from a long ruined House. House Baenre surely sold the pieces of the staff separately to incite — ahem, competition. Even shattered, it was the last piece I needed to confirm the duplicity of House Shobalar. By now, my matron mother shall have used this information to increase the standing of House Ba'Tol. Sadly, as a third-born son none of this glory extends to me, but I still have my research.

What research?

[Persuasion] Tell us of House Shobalar's duplicity.

House Shobalar's Duplicity

So House Shobalar was once all but eliminated. They had been responsible for the enchantments of weapons and armor made by House Baenre with the Adamantine Forge, a power thought lost when the forge was claimed in a mighty battle by heretics — worshippers of Shar, who knew of the Adamantine Forge's location because House Shobalar was, without the consent of House Baenre, nor the blessing of Lolth, selling enchantments, even to colnbluth — non-drow.

After losing the forge, House Baenre moved to destroy House Shobalar on Lolth's behalf, but upon arriving, discovered all had already been slain by the youngest daughter, Xullrae'Hael Shobalar, whose ignorance of her family's actions and loyalty to Lolth was rewarded with her life.

Publicly, House Shobalar was removed from the Council of Eight, and dishonored to fifty-second in rank, but Xullrae'Hael, house of one, played drow politics well for one so … disadvantaged. She would have spun in her grave to know it was all for naught, with her great grand-daughter allowing House Shobalar finally being destroyed in the War of the Spider Queen as punishment for women practicing arcane magic, rather than Lolth's divine magic.

Étoile's Perspective

But Étoile knows this staff, the Mourning Frost was depicted in a tome of Auril's treasures in their mother's temple. It was not gifted to her in a moment of divine inspiration as the Revelations of the Icedawn was given to Iyraclea, Chosen of Auril and the Ice Queen of the Great Glacier until 1373 DR. Étoile's mother, Aranea, would sit with her open book in the storms atop their mountain, praying as frost coated the pages over days and hours. Her thin, dry hands would crack so that when she could finally trace the images, messages, and blessings upon the book the pages were also anointed with blood.

Étoile was only permitted to look upon this book on the coldest days of the year, only with supervision, only to recognize the value in frozen waterfalls, weapons, and adventurers.

The Mourning Frost was gifted to a priestess who oversaw the shifting rivers of a frozen temple deep underground. Where molten earth and stale air should have thrived, Sozican, Elderteeth, The Ghost, a white dragon who favored the guise of an albino drow, channelled Auril's power in the heart of an unwelcoming land.

What Research

Dhourn wishes to bring the knowledge of the Forge back to Menzoberranzan. To either recreate the legendary weapons and armor of old with techniques that have the benefit of advances in magic and materials. Or better still, to recreate the forge. If he could build but one for House Baenre or one for each great House that would offer him more than his place as a third son. He would marvel to see such magic wielded in the greatest regimes and assassinations with his name on the lips of every Matron Mother as either a praise or a curse…

Spoils from which long ruined House?

Dhourn would ask, What does it matter?

B. If the player character loots or pick pockets the Icy Crystal from Filro the Forgotten then the next time the player character speaks to Étoile at camp, Étoile will say that it was a pretty thing they procured, and ask to see it. Agreeing will have Étoile confirm that it is a divine chill that eminates from the crystal, and then they will recognize it as a piece of the Mourning Frost.

C. If the player character loots the Icy Metal from Xargrim's body, then Étoile will comment that it has an angelic shape, doesn't it? That they appreciate that cold magic gives everything a frost or a sparkling shine, and then they'll stop, stunned, and will recognize it as a piece of the Mourning Frost

If the Mourning Frost is reforged and Given to Étoile. Reminder that they would default to using it one-handed with a shield, but that it is a versatile weapon, and can be taken away immediately after to be given to a caster if you like, lol.

Étoile: I— Are-are you sure? Heh, I am used to … temptations, like this, if you feel it would better suit another in the party, but … I am honored to hold it. I am not my mother, but I will pray on it, perhaps despite our distance from the frost and the mountains, my god might also hear me, and offer us some manner of aid in these … extenuating circumstances.

You're welcome.

Please keep me out of your prayers.

Isn't Auril the weakest she's ever been? I wouldn't keep my hopes up.

Maybe try to sound more humble if you're entreating your god.

Étoile, to 1: I'm so sorry. Thank you. I appreciate that we took the time to restore the staff.

Étoile, to 2: [Disapproves] Of course, my apologies, I shouldn't have presumed you'd be comfortable with it.

Étoile, to 3: I think it's far more likely that she'll look us over than not have the power to assist. No harm in exhausting another means of dealing with the parasite.

Étoile, to 4: Oh, that's … You're very correct. I will be most supplicant.

Étoile, to 5: [Disapproves] A fine weapon. One I will strive to use ably.

Étoile unlocks a new camp idle animation of sitting cross-legged in meditation. If Mourning Frost is in their inventory, it will be draped across their lap.

Quest Act 2:

In Act 2, there'd be some scratches in the earth in the shadow-cursed lands that you could talk to Étoile about, where they point out that they're not made by twig blights or the other moving trees the party has seen. They were made by a werewolf, keep an eye out.

After discovering Locke's fate in the House of Healing, Komira is still missing. We discover her curled up against a wall from a number of Harpers. She shrieks at the heroes for failing to save them, for failing to save everyone, about all the horrible things those nurses did to Locke. She couldn't even take his body when she had to sneak out the window. And now everyone's gone.

There are other survivors, we can take you to them.

Arabella needs you, she's in our camp.

I don't need to listen to this.

Harper: It doesn't matter. She's been transforming back and forth the past four hours. The shadow-cursed lands are calling to the curse in her blood. She's a danger to everyone, even if she leaves.

Komira: These accursed lands have taken everything. They've already taken my sanity, I just feel so … weak. The grip I have on myself is slipping, there's only the pain, and the rage, and the sorrow, and this horrible, aching …

Queue werewolf transformation. Étoile cursing Malar's mercy, and calling on the party to hold back.

Defend Komira. (Harpers hostile)

Defend the Harpers. (Komira hostile)

Refuse to take a side. (Komira hostile)

If the player character initiates combat against Komira, Étoile greatly disapproves, but if they let her feed on the corpses of the fallen Harpers (Wyll, Gale, Karlach and Lae'zel disapprove), then Étoile's Paladin Oath breaks, and the Oathbreaker Knight arrives. Komira doesn't transform back at this time, runs off.

The next time the party long rests Étoile swings wildly between being confident that defending Komira was the right thing to do and that they've lost everything that made them a paladin, that made them useful to the party, that made their late werewolf mother proud of them, that connected them to their drow mother and their shared god.

After that long rest Étoile can confide more about their mothers. Including that House Ienith was once the thirteenth House in Menzoberranzan until it was crushed under the young heel of Malice Do'Urden; she had only been a Matron Mother for thirty years. While it had simply been a power play, Malice probably would have had an even easier time of it, if she'd known that the second daughter of the House, Aranea, had not been keeping Lolth in her heart, and was instead entertaining whispers from the Mourning Frost. The information Étoile revealed previously about Sozican was true, but not the whole of it, and they didn't want to seem personally motivated in obtaining the staff, but to think that their mother had once been protected by Auril, and now Étoile has let them both down …

But they're still conflicted, Komira deserved to be treated kindly in her affliction, to be allowed to learn or taught to live, not executed.

Conversely, if Komira is killed Étoile is extremely short with the player character. They feel they've betrayed themself.

Killing Komira:

Shadowheart: This place is one tragedy after another, isn't it? But I think it will be for the best, wouldn't want Komira to injure her daughter in a fit of— Well. It's done now.

Astarion: Werewolves are … undisciplined, unmanageable, extraordinary horrors. How Étoile could keep hope that the tiefling could be saved— It was a sign that they needed to be faced with the reality of things. You did right.

Gale: You know … historically speaking, Lord Urtos Phylund II was a very able patriarch of Waterdeep. Notably, a lycanthrope, and so it was decreed none of his children could inherit his lands or titles, but … It's unfortunate that not more cursed souls aren't given the opportunity to learn to manage such a volatile condition.

Lae'zel: While I do not envy her fate, I imagine Komira would rather die as she was than live as a monster. The soldiers will make far more able allies against the growing threat from the towers. Do not allow the others to lose focus.

Wyll: Étoile might mourn Komira, but those Harpers deserved their lives too. How many more would she have hurt if she'd made her way to Last Light? To Baldur's Gate? Hard decisions need not make hard hearts, but there was a right choice.

Karlach: I dunno, soldier. That was hard. That was— Gods only know how hard her life was before the Descent, and then Elturel — can you imagine being a young mother with a family to worry about in Avernus? And then this … This was all there was for her.

Saving Komira:

Shadowheart: Despite their association with the night, and the dark, werewolves have never been creatures of Shar. It is strange to find Komira corrupted in this way. We should be vigilant for whatever turned her.

Astarion: Do you think our little thief's magic will help or complicate the transition of living with a monstrous mother? They'll make quite the pair.

Gale: Those were just people we killed. They were not opposed to our recovery from the parasites. They were not threatening a member of the group. They were people. Frightened of monsters in the dark. What does that make us.

Lae'zel: The wolf has as much control over her power as a t'phret. They are … like wyrmlings filled with poison. When the beasts lick even themselves they cause serious injuries and blinding scars. She is a danger to herself and all around her. The Harpers were right not to turn their backs.

Wyll: Keep Étoile away from me. They know where I stand on this. I … I cannot believe what you've made me party to. Has the shadow-curse affected your senses?

Karlach: That was … supremely unheroic of us. I mean, how often do you hear of heroes who had to put down an old friend for the greater good? That's— That's why Étoile's Paladin Oath broke. This wasn't a good thing we did … But what's worse is … I don't know that I wouldn't do it again.

The next long rest Komira will join camp, will hug her daughter and tell her that she doesn't know that she can stay. Withers weighs in that her transformations will be restricted to the full moon (and, one day, her own will) once she leaves the shadow-cursed lands, which Arabella needs to do anyway to pursue her destiny. Arabella is afraid of and for her mother, full of grief for her friends and father, and uncertainty. Withers still uses his magic, and assures all that they will be safe on their own.

Quest Act 3:

Étoile is very embarrassed to show you where they were living in the Lower City of Baldur's Gate. I'm adding an alley to the south of the Basilisk Gate or to the east of the Guildhall Entrance. I'm adding an Adventurer's Guild building. Étoile lives near this building but not in it. Some kind of large building that is mixed use, most people rent a room and both operate out of it and live there, selling clothing or tool or shoe repairs, but not clothing or tools or shoes (etc.) themselves, herbs they've home-grown, healing, prestidigitation, and so on. Étoile's been living there a while and so has the benefit of three rooms on an upper floor, away from flooding and theft.

When Étoile goes to investigate if they've been replaced (yes), they find that most of their things have been sold or given to the new family that has moved in, but they have some things they can retrieve. A neighbour or four, perhaps a member of the Adventurer's Guild, is relieved to see that Étoile isn't dead, having been missing for so long, they suggest having a party sometime over the next few days. It isn't the high society party that everyone wishes was in Wyll's or Astarion's quest, it's lower class, in the residential street, but find some nice 'camp' clothes because there'll be drinking and dance, music and gambling — maybe an optional party game, like Charades or Yes And No (that the tadpole squad can cheat at if you like, Étoile disapproves).

Neighbour: I thought you were dead. We should celebrate.

Étoile: We don't have to do that, there's so much terror with the Absolute and —

Neighbour: Precisely. Let's have a few hours to be merry, the 'we may all die tomorrow' kind of merry.

Étoile is right, it's inappropriate.

That sounds wonderful.

Let us get back to you.

In the meantime, because you'll probably want to prepare, the next time at camp, Étoile can be comforted, with the player character having the option to be upset on their behalf over the loss of their home and their things; that was their whole life in there. And Étoile can be gracious about it, tapping their chest, indicating that they have their life; a romantic tilt on this for romanced Étoile (but they still wouldn't call their romantic partner their whole life).

When it comes time to dancing, the player character can choose to dance with Étoile or allow Étoile to choose their partner. If the player character is Étoile's only partner, they will dance with them, and if they are in a polyamorous relationship then Étoile will choose a companion over the player character for this dance. Otherwise Étoile will dance with a random party member.

Afterwards, Étoile will be approached by a pale drow for a dance. They accept.

Étoile: Do I know you?

Sozican: Not in this life. Not for ages. Ienith. I thought you'd be a drow, I— You have no memory of me?

Étoile: (amused) Not in this life. (thoughtful) But …

Sozican: There's much in your soul that's gone unchanged. Your heart. Your faith. The way people love you. ... What drew you to my staff?

Étoile: Your staff?

Sozican: How I mourned you once … this is not the reunion I envisioned. You were not easy to find. Obscured by time, by blood, by Lolth, by Shar. You, a high elf babe with no connection to the chilling dark ... but you found your way to Auril regardless, and to me.

Sozican stops moving, the ground frosts from beneath her outward in all directions slowly, and then all at once in a burst of white-blue light. The music stops and the celebration is frozen. The party finds themselves able to move.

Sozican: The others will thaw, but the hour grows late. (She offers her hand) I would have no other. Come, slay me that i might reincarnate, and someday, in another life, we need no longer be strangers.

Étoile: We need not be strangers in this one.

Sozican: No … Do not ask this of me. Simply take Auril's favor, through force and victory as a champion should, and help me move on, please.

They do not require Auril's favor.

They no longer want Auril's favor. [Étoile disapproves]

They will not fight alone. [Étoile approves]

Auril would have an Oathbreaker? (conditional)

[Persuasion] You don't have to do this.

Sozican, if 1: Then I will fight you all the same.

Étoile, if 2: Do not speak for me.

Étoile, if 3: I would. I would spare you this hardship.

Sozican, if 3: (laughter) Gentle Soul, you will need your allies.

Sozican, if 4: The Orders of mortals are not the tenets of the gods. They have broken no vows to Auril. The frost still welcomes them. Come, and you will see just how much.

If you selected 3 or 4, Étoile begins the fight with the buff Auril's Faithful and is immune to being Frightened or knocked Prone for 4 turns.

Étoile, if 5, Persuasion failed: No, but I'm going to. With or without you.

As if you'd stand a chance without me.

With me, obviously.

Good luck.

It's your funeral.

1 or 2 lead to the fight. 3 or 4 sees Étoile teleported away with Sozican, and they permanently leave the party; whether deceased or otherwise is left up to speculation.

Étoile, if 5, Persuasion succeeded: (gets down on their knees) Sozican, Elderteeth, I cannot risk my life for you while my allies need me.

Sozican, if 5: So much respect for these new lives ... and none for me. (kneels, holds Étoile's shoulder) Perhaps in the next life, Gentle Soul.

Étoile slowly frosts over and turns to ice. Étoile is permanently removed from the party. The party takes 3d6 cold damage as Sozican teleports away.

Sozican teleports the party to a scene of white. A quick look around might make it look like there is a black sky high above, but a longer look around reveals that it is a bowl of onyx, her frost white temple deep in the Underdark, three moving rivers of ice acting as a boundary to the combat map / her lair.

Sozican fights the party with the stats of an Adult White Dragon.

After the fight the player character can still convince Étoile to spare Sozican. Doing so changes Étoile's personality to be more distant and distracted, their smiles are strained and their approval is forever skewed to favor merciful outcomes, even at the cost of their faith. Additionally, Sozican can be summoned in the final battle. If the player character allows Étoile to sacrifice Sozican, Étoile is briefly conflicted but quickly back to themself and expresses their relief that whatever of the past, that they, in this life, feel like releasing Sozican from her grief was the correct choice. They wouldn't wish to suffer that sort of loneliness.

Completing the fight upgrades the Mourning Frost to instead be the Dead of Winter. In addition to the Mourning Frost's previous abilities it is now a +2 weapon and allows wielder to cast Auril's Flowers once per Long Rest.
