Innerworld Lore Dump: Resonance of Rehia, Week #1
Rehia is a planet on one of the outer rings of a spiral ringed galaxy far from the center of the universe. The universe it's in has several interconnected planets that support life, including Earth, but they're spread out across many different galaxies.
One of the main languages of Rehia, known intuitively in some form or another by most of the intelligent, talking creatures of the world, is called Zeranhan. Zeranhan translates to Resonance, more or less. According to myths, the language the world was spoken into being, or in some myths named after creation, was Zeranhan - each name resonating with the creature or thing it described. A name that sings in the heart and says yes, that's me. That's why it's very common for humans, dragons, and other intelligent creatures of the world to have a name they were given at birth, and a name they chose as an adult. Sometimes these names have deeply important meanings. Sometimes they're chosen just because they sound nice or feel nice to hold.
Humans are not native to Rehia, but rather are imports from Earth. (According to some, they're an invasive species.) They have to be taught Zeranhan, same as with any other language. It's not the only human language. Some bring with them Earthly languages, notably English and Spanish, but Russian, Japanese, and Mandarin are also not entirely unheard of. This is due to where humans enter Rehia from - travelers lost in the Bermuda Triangle and the Devil's Sea south of Japan and in the Golosov Ravine in Russia often end up on Rehia. There's also a couple of human languages that only exist on Rehia. One sprung up as a kind of coded language on Ebrau (EH-broo), a continent that was used as a penal colony in the First through Third Eras. Another is one used by the islanders, and seems to have its roots in such a wide variety of Earthly languages that it's impossible to tell what came from where.
Zeranhan has a few forms. There's the very intricate formal form, used in a lot of holy texts and national records. There's also a couple different informal forms, one primarily used by dragons which is in many ways still pretty close to the formal form, and one used by humans which is very informal. There's also several dialects. For the most part, these dialects and forms are mutually intelligible, but there's some things, particularly in holy texts, that are difficult to understand without a solid grasp of the formal form of Zeranhan.
Next week I'll show off some of what the language looks and sounds like! :)

Photographer John Miller
John was of mixed Scottish and English decent as well as Maori decent, and his iwi is Ngai Tawake-ki-te-tuawhenua, Te Uri Taniwha, Ngati Rehia, Te Whiu hapu of Ngapuhi.
What I like about John Millers work is that he was very passionate about his Maori culture. He was a independent social documentary photographer, renowned particularly for his protest images. He used his camera as a way to show the difficult hardship our Maori culture had to go through. Each of his images tell such power story and meaning. John was very inspired by his Maori side and strived to learn as much as he could about the Maori past. By analysing his images it seems he didn't worry much about depth or angle, it seems he just wanted to capture as much as he can into one image to tell the story better. As a beginner photographer myself, I like to try take my images with deep meaning behind every image. I can definitely learn from John Millers work.

#2458 - Coriaria arborea - Tree Tutu
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Found in scrub and open areas from the coast to the hills across the main islands, the Chathams, and Raoul island. Like others in the genus, highly poisonous.
A straggling plant that can grow to over 6m high.
The toxin tutin is found in all parts of the plant apart from the fleshy flower petals. Livestock, including dogs and two circus elephants, have been poisoned by the plant, and humans are no better off. In 2014 a hiker was lucky to survive after mistaking the shoots for Supplejack (Ripogonum scandens).
Despite that, Tutu was eaten by the Māori - specifically the extracted juice of the flowerpetals that enfold the berries. The gathered berries were placed in specially woven baskets lined with the flower heads of Toetoe grass (Austroderia), to separate the seeds from the squeezed juice. The juice was used as a sweetener for fernroot, or was boiled with seaweed and left to set as a black jelly called Rehia.
Tree Tutu is host to four moth species in the genus Izatha.

John Miller is an independent social documentary photographer, renowned particularly for his protest images.
Attending Victoria University in 1969-70, John then worked as a Craccum (Auckland University Students' Association Magazine) photographer in 1971-72. He became focused on the various protest movements taking place at the time, the activities of the anti-Vietnam War and anti-South African sports tour movements and the first Waitangi protests before moving to record the historic Land March and Bastion Point occupation. His work reveals the connections between peace and equality and that peace will not come without freedom for all members of society. He considers himself a self described sympathetic observer of these manifestations of civilian dissent, saying “I tend to support the causes that motivate such protests, rallies or meetings”.
John Miller’s photos documenting social and political dissent and cultural events, for more than five decades, have featured in exhibitions and publications, including the books By Batons and Barbed Wire, on the 1981 Springbok Tour; Negligent Neighbour, about East Timor, and Hikoi - Forty Years of Māori Protest.

Jas: Answering this question would take an epic trilogy to answer. Which is, of course, part of why we're writing said trilogy. (Cord of Three, which we haven't posted about much lately as we've been working on other writing projects.)
That said, this answer will be full of spoilers for said trilogy, so I'm placing it after the cut.
I'm half human, half dragon, more or less. I was a human baby hatched from a dragon egg on Rehia, and placed with a human family on Earth - I was switched with a twin, and that twin placed with a family who had just lost their newborn, and all parties who knew the secret sworn to secrecy.
The secret didn't last. My father found out, tried to kill me, succeeded in killing my sister's twin. My mother took the brunt of what should have killed me, and though she was an excellent healer, the poisoning meant for me eventually killed her. I at this time didn't know I wasn't my sister's twin, or that my mother wasn't really my mother. My father kept that secret to himself.
My father and my sister fled, traveling through multiple other universes to help my sister learn and become stronger, before eventually returning to our universe and ending up on our home planet of Rehia, where the two established themselves as emperor and empress of the Bloodbound kingdom, where the strongest rule. (And soon my father died, leaving my sister as sole ruler.)
I lived for a time with cousins - my mother's relatives. One of my cousins, Kyra, is still my best friend.
Anyway. Eventually I came into my own power. I followed my father and sister for a time, stopping them from various plots in other universes.
But what really matters is what happened Back Home, on Rehia.
I'm a prophetess and priest of my goddess, Ele Cambria. The title for that role on Rehia translates to Keeper. She told me I would be one of the three strongest mages on the planet - one of the Cord of Three Strands, whose arrival always marks the ending of an era - and that I would be responsible for finding and training the... Well, there's no simple translation of the term for it in our language, so it's easiest just to say Chosen One, who would, after me, be the third of the Cord of Three. Because I was fated to die before that one took my place.
Understandably, I was pissed. I had put in so much effort, and it wasn't fair. I spent a LOT of time talking to my goddess trying to persuade her to change my fate...or, well, to be more accurate, yelling at her.
Anyways. I found seven teenagers who mostly fit the criteria for the Chosen. Trained them best I could. One however was a magic-null voidborn - immune to magic and with no magic ability whatsoever, which is so rare that it basically never happens. Even transplants from Earth always have at least a tiny bit of ability.
The voidborn part is that she died as an infant. But when her brother started going through portals on my orders, closing down paths through the void... Once while doing so, he thought about her and wished, powerfully, that she was still alive.
The void has two sides. One side contains everything that ever existed or could exist, in perfect form. It's this side that the voidborn was in when her brother thought about her while closing down a portalway. She resonated with that wish, and summoned herself out of the void, onto Earth.
She came with a box of memories, photos of things that never really happened, of her with her family growing up.
Her first few days, she had no memory. Police found her wandering in the graveyard and found her family - her dad and her stepmom. Her brother had "gone missing", as he was spending most of his time on Rehia working on my orders, closing portalways and infiltrating the Bloodbound. Her mother had been killed while investigating a cult on Earth linked to the Bloodbound.
Anyway. She met her brother while he was closing a portalway, followed him through the portal, ended up on Rehia in my path.
So. While investigating that cult myself on Earth, I got captured. I was held for almost two years. I lived a nightmare. My captors bled me, sieving out soulblood. Most people only have a single drop of it, and when it's used up or taken you die. Mine regenerates, and I have a lot more than just a drop. Soulblood, and regular blood, is a not uncommonly used fuel for magic. It's why they're called Bloodbound - they use blood primarily for magic. Sometimes their own. Usually not. Soulblood is insanely more potent than regular blood. Among the Bloodbound there's women who make a living off killing their newborns, whose blood is more potent than an adult's, for soulblood. The term for them is "tulpar" - which is why I'm really uncomfortable with the term "tulpa". It's just too similar.
Anyways. Not only did they basically keep me on the edge between alive and dead from hypovolemic shock, they also got me pregnant. Super powerful blood me, they thought the blood of a baby of mine would be even more potent.
I was able to escape, finally. But my baby didn't make it. He died in the womb saving my life.
A wonderful ally and doctor, Avram Donavek, saved me, nursed me back to health. But the trauma lingered. I'd rather not dwell on it much here. It will likely haunt me for the rest of my life.
Anyways. Back to Rehia. Back to the voidborn - who, remember my sister's actual twin who was murdered? Yeah that's the voidborn - and the other six I was training.
My twin sister, who was one of the other Cord of Three, killed the third Cord... Then almost immediately realized she loved him. But despite having the power to do just about anything, she didn't have the power to bring him back from the dead. No one here does. Ele Cambria can, but it's not a thing she does.
So my sister defected from the Bloodbound and came to me. I protected her from the fallout best as I could.
But in the void of power among the Bloodbound, the leader of my former captors took over, with enough of my blood to back him for a century. And we found out from the voidborn's brother that the new emperor was planning to spend all that blood on a singular task - ripping the veil between Rehia and the other side of the void.
Remember how the void has two sides? The one side contains all that does or could exist, preserved in perfection. The other side contains everything that has existed but is corrupted or broken. Including demons.
So. It was imperative that we stop this plan. Me and the seven used intel from the voidborn's brother and my sister the former empress to get into the Bloodbound fortress. But even armed with all the knowledge and all the power we had, it wasn't enough. We eight were captured - it was a horrific nightmare for all of us, but worse for me because this had happened to me before and trauma fucks you up pretty bad.
The emperor killed us off, one by one, trying to force us to reveal the coordinates of the Camberbound - my people's - refuge.
The last two were me and the voidborn.
The previous time I was captured, they used a diamond kinto knife on me to drain the soulblood. Kinto is a type of treatment of crystals that gives them special properties. Diamond kinto has the power to cut your soulpattern. So no matter how much you heal, the wound keeps coming back, faster and faster and worse and worse each time till you're dead.
In the three years since I'd been captured, I had healed this wound in my side dozens of times. By the time I and the voidborn were left, I knew I wouldn't be able to heal it again, even if I had all the vials of my blood to do it with. I was just barely staying alive using all my magic - our captors had magic-sealing cuffs on me, but in my time being captured I had figured out a way around those. But like I said, everything was being used just to keep myself alive. This would be my last shot.
I and the voidborn were brought in front of the emperor. I expected we'd be tortured for the coordinates to the refuge. Turns out he had gotten them already. A demon had infiltrated the refuge and had finally gotten back out with the coordinates.
An army of Bloodbound were already in the refuge, and the emperor was about to use my blood to rip the veil and let enough demons pour into the refuge to take over all the dead and wipe us Camberbound out of existence.
But I had one last trick up my sleeve.
(And for the rest you'll have to read the book!
Just kidding, I'm not that cruel.)
I had managed to hide a tiny ball of silver wire and emerald kinto crystal in a pocket dimension just small enough to not be noticed. I used the last of my strength to pull it out and gave it to Tristan, the voidborn girl. It was a portal with the coords of the Cave of the Moon, a place where she could access a sheltered realm and from there, see if Ele Cambria could help her get back home to Earth and her family.
I died, hoping that at least Tristan would be protected from the fallout for as long as possible.
When I did though... A rocklike cocoon formed itself over me. Tristan activated the portal I gave her to teleport me to the Cave of the Moon, then readied herself to die.
But the portal, activated by smashing it into the ground, which shattered it and cut her palm, triggered something in her. Between that and her own desperation, she was finally able to access the void that she'd been unable to do despite trying to learn how to all this time. She searched and found the other six Chosen, and tried to summon them back to life. (She tried with me too, but couldn't find me.)But without their own bodies to attach to, she summoned them back into her own body. Now a system, with a metric ton of power from the connection to the void, they were able to kick the emperor's ass, stole all my blood back, got back to the refuge, shoved the Bloodbound army out.
We still took a lot of casualties.
Anyways. Stuff happened with Tristan&. Lots of stuff. More than I can get into here - suffice it to say I've summarized basically one book out of Three.
Remember me and the cocoon?
About midway through book three, the cocoon cracked. And out came me, as a white dragon.
And from that point on, if I died in human form, I'd transform into a dragon. And dragons are hard to kill even when they're not super strong mages like me. (And to transform back to a human I have to return to the Cave of the Moon.)
Eventually the Chosen saved the world, yada yada, and I became curator of a museum and relic hunter for that museum. And I met and fell for Doc, regained a solid relationship with my authors (Willows), had a daughter who is now 6 and the delight of my world, and have done immense trauma work. Oh and one of the things I made with magic, a magic AI in the form of a varen which is a holy bird, became a full headmate within our system here, and an actual whole person. I'm so proud of him.
And proud of me! I've come so far and have even forgiven Ele Cambria for telling me I was gonna die and not telling me it would only be temporary. 😂

We have a headmate, Coriander, who is both guardian of a particular place in our innerworld, The Cove, and inextricably bound to it. You could say that they're the personification of The Cove's purpose and meaning, which is a place of rest and recuperation. They're the reason why the place is always quiet and peaceful and why the beach house on it is always different but each time exactly what we need it to be.
Rehia, the planet that many of our headmates are from, is also sentient in a way - it's got a soul, it hurts sometimes, it fiercely protects its own.
And then we have the TARDIS where most of us live when not fronting or working or living on Rehia. That's definitely alive. Our Aery is an AI interface for it, but its soul is not the same as hers. They're bound together, but not 100% the same entity.
The TARDIS is also the innerworld metaphor for our external body, and we view our body as being at least partly sentient. It tells us things, it has its own wants and desires and fears, it's obviously alive lol...it may not be 100% a person like we Crew are, but we do respect it as its own entity.
I was thinking about inner worlds and how some systems will report inner worlds being sentient or their inner worlds being headmates themselves, and I was curious how common this phenomenon was across different system types.

Innerworld Lore Dump: Week 2
Just a short one today as we're working hard on the one for next week, which is the innerworld script. Zeranhan is difficult to write with muscles accustomed to cursive! It's so angular!
Anyway.
The innerworld has both small gods - the elemental creatures that are wardens of a location or region - and big gods, the demon lords and ancestral spirit guides and Ele Cambria and the One's Heart, John/Johna, who was a human hatched from a dragon egg who sacrificed themself to save the dragons and the allied humans in the era before writing.
There's a common swear there, "By all the gods above and below", but this doesn't mean the gods in heaven and hell. It means the big gods, up in the immaterial plane, and the small gods, down here in the material plane. "Big" and "small" refer to their connection with the world and where their focus is (big - larger zone of attunement, small - a narrower focus) not a hierarchical thing.
The prepositions for the Rehian equivalent of heaven and hell are, respectively, inside (inside the extradimensional ring/Mobius strip of the Void) and outside (past the borders of the ring of the Void). The Void itself is where all things exist in perfection in potential - everything that does, could, or has ever existed. Inside the ring is The One's Home, where all things that have ever existed and were loved (not just by other people, but by the One too), lives on. Outside of the ring is the Broken Land, where (some) broken things exist after leaving the material plane. It's where demons keep their incorporeal selves, more or less, as well as where creatures that are "broken" (tivla/tivlaken) exist after death - this term is probably going to need its own entry, as in Zeranhan it means something very specific that doesn't translate well into English. Just know, if you feel broken in the English sense, you're almost certainly not broken in the Zeranhan sense. Most tivlaken things think they're perfect, superior even, and use their sharp broken edges to hurt other creatures on purpose - and not just that, seek out others to hurt. I'll explain it and the philosophy of it further in a future post, contrasting it with camben/cambeni, the Zeranhan word that loosely translates to wise or good.

We have several. And just to clarify, when we say "malleable" below we mean "think it and it happens", and un-malleable to mean "you can't just think it, you have to actually make change happen the same way you have to here on this Earth." In a malleable part, if you want tea, it just appears, exactly the way you want it. In an un-malleable part, you'd have to walk to the kitchen, get out a cup, heat water, get a teabag, dunk it in and out of the water for a couple minutes, throw away the teabag, get sugar or honey and put some into the tea, stir it up, wait for the tea to cool enough to drink it, etc.
We Willows have a malleable cozy office space with four cubicles in a square, each decorated according to the tastes of the Willow it belongs to. We love using paper airplanes to send messages over the cubicle walls and also just to pester each other. :)
Beyond that we have the shared headspace/mindscape - a malleable thought-space anyone can make into anything they want. It defaults to a beige-walled room with a large comfy couch.
Beyond that we have the paracosm - an un-malleable universe with several inhabited planets and a few no longer inhabited planets, connected to several other universes. Nothing there can just be willed into existence, unless you're in the pocket dimension where thought creates reality but that's a very dangerous dimension because EVERY thought creates reality. Including fears and intrusive thoughts.
The main planet in the main universe of the paracosm is called Rehia. Elemental magic is the main driver of technology there, there's dragons and a huge wide variety of elemental creatures, and our headmate Jas has two jobs there - one as a museum curator, and the other as a relic hunter. Basically Indiana Jones but with magic. :)
Then there's us-Willows' private area of the innerworld, The Cove. The Cove is a tropical island that exists somewhere between the paracosm and a separate mindscape. It's malleable but only by Coriander, who is the Guardian of The Cove. It's our refuge and place for relaxation and restoration. Also when we switch out we usually get dumped unceremoniously onto the sand at the beach. At least it's a soft landing :)
Lastly, there's The Twins' private universe. It's malleable, sorta, because it tends to be rather stable and resistant to change. You have to really wish hard for things to change without doing it manually. It was a lot more malleable when it was first created alongside The Twins, but it's settled into the multi-planet universe it is now. Twins Daj and Ameda prefer it that way, as it and what they do there feels more real and meaningful.
I think that's all our places lol
hey guys
if its no secret what's your innerworld/headspace like????
ours looks mostly like different dreamcore/weirdcore spaces. parts appear/change/disappear there often. its pretty fun :>
