Techniques of my photography
I edited my photos into black and white because it possesses a timeless and classic quality that can bring out the essence and depth of a subject. By removing the distractions of colour, the focus shifts to composition, light, and shadow, allowing viewers to engage with the raw emotions and storytelling elements within the image. I discovered that converting certain photographs to black and white enhanced their dramatic impact and emphasized the cultural significance of the subject matter. However, there were instances where colour played a pivotal role in conveying the vibrancy and vitality of Māori culture. By incorporating both black and white and colour photography into my project, I aimed to create a nuanced portrayal of Māori culture. Each editing choice I made served a purpose in enhancing storytelling and eliciting diverse emotional responses from the viewers. Composition played a crucial role in my photography as well. I carefully considered the placement of subjects, lines, and elements within the frame to create visually pleasing and meaningful images. I also observed the direction and quality of the available light to optimize my photography process. Indoor shoots in Māori Marae presented unique lighting challenges so I need to turn high ISO to bring good quality to my photos.

Reading
The AUT'S link "The Pōwhir" describes the protocol and customs of the pōwhiri, a traditional Maori welcoming ceremony at Ngā Wai ō Horotiu Marae. It highlights the significance of the marae ātea as a sacred space and the importance of the karanga, a spiritual call of welcome. The manuhiri pay respects to the deceased before entering the meeting house, where speeches and songs are performed. The hongi, a traditional greeting involving the touching of noses, symbolizes the removal of tapu (sacredness) and the establishment of a connection between the visitors and the hosts. The pōwhiri concludes with the sharing of food, and the manuhiri are welcomed as tangata whenua for the duration of their stay.
This gives me information on what to know when taking pictures in Marae.

Manurewa Marae
I visited Manurewa Marae but they closed so I need to email the officer in charge to request permission to visit at a later time. So I took a few photos of a member in Manurewa Marae with her agreement.
