love isn't real

What is love? Love, in a utopia, would be a human’s only act of selfishness.

Personally,

Love is an umbrella term, hence the saying - to fall in love. Falling causes injuries, small and big.

That’s why you broke up with your ex.

You don't love your mum the same way you love your friends or your significant other.

You never actually love someone, you feel affection, appreciation, devotion, fondness, friendship, infatuation, lust, passion, respect, tenderness, yearning, amity, cherishment, warmth, idolatry, longing, devotedness, euphoria, pining, adulation, canonisation, deification, esteem, exaltation, fancy, glorification, idolisation, veneration and so much more.

It's a selfish feeling, as it confuses many. When you feel that rush and contentment, you don't know what it is at first, leading to mistakes and misconceptions.

There is no point in wasting time on looking for love, as it doesn't exist.

Coming back to the idea of selfish desires, you can learn a lot about someone when you ask them:

Would you kill one person you love to save 100 strangers?

It doesn't matter who they love, but the concept of their love. You don't specify who they have to kill. Then it lies upon yourself to judge their character from that answer.

My point is, as a society, we have lost that idea of love and intimacy. Hookup culture and social media has distorted the intimacy and ties that come with being with a person. Society now merely frowns on cheating, while in the past, cheaters were stoned and shamed into nothing.

There is no intimacy in intimacy anymore as social media idolises and promotes no privacy. Girls are taught to have honor and purity, whilst boys are taught that game is game. We as a whole are being fed the lies of that love must be physical to be considered true love. Love is transactional, love is this, love is that.

Love is an unconditional feeling of respect. Regardless of the relationship, you respect them in some way.

Love is not a feeling, it's a choice you make every day. You choose to love the person inside and out. You choose to understand them.

Yes, understand. To love you must respect, to respect you must understand.

The intimacy of being understood is so subtle yet so loud, it's deafening when it happens to you.

That choice you make to understand the person in front of you, that's love. To understand your friends, that's philia. To understand your mother, that's adoration. To love your partner, that's devotion. To love is to be content.

Love is so simple, babies know what it is.

I love you. Three words that can seal a person's fate and make them smile.
