Having a Saucy Time at Mickey's Smokestack Barbecue!
In the mood for barbecue on your Disney Wish cruise? Join us at Mickey's Smokestack Barbecue for a saucy time!
We have a love/hate relationship with barbecue at Disney. We’ve had good barbecue at Boma in Animal Kingdom Lodge. We’ve had okay barbecue at Regal Eagle Smokehouse in Epcot. We’d rather not talk about the disappointment at Flame Tree Barbecue at Animal Kingdom. Let’s see where Mickey’s Smokestack Barbecue lands in this spectrum! Mickey’s Smokestack Barbecue is one of several counter service…

New Details Revealed for 2024 EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival
Tumblr media
It may be winter according to the calendar, but spring is nearly blooming at Walt Disney World Resort. And nothing says springtime fun like the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival! This year’s festival will begin on Feb. 28 and continue through May 27 for ninety days full of beautiful topiaries, inspirational gardens, delicious dishes and rockin’ music celebrating spring. From the tiniest tykes to the young at heart, there’s something for everyone! Today we’re sharing more details, from new topiaries to acts coming to the Garden Rocks concert series. Let’s dig in! New Topiaries to Enjoy Each spring, we look forward to the astounding topiaries our Disney horticulture cast create for the festival. This year, more than 70 topiaries, featuring a delightful array of Disney characters as well as other figures and whimsical items, will fill the park. As part of the topiary magic, guests can also look forward to seeing everyone’s favorite dragon, Figment, in the newly opened World Celebration Gardens. Something else we’re excited to share: For the first time, Groot takes root at EPCOT! The flora colossus from the “Guardians of the Galaxy” trilogy will appear near Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind in World Discovery. Also new this year, guests can look forward to viewing new topiaries from the Walt Disney Animation Studios film “Wish,” including Asha, Valentino and the Wishing Star, at the park’s main entrance. And in Mexico, we’re thrilled to share that Miguel and Dante from Disney Pixar’s “Coco” will take center stage! Fresh Garden Rocks Concert Series It’s time to dance and sing along to guest favorites as the popular Garden Rocks concert series takes to the American Gardens Theatre stage daily during the festival. Featuring local and globally recognized acts, there’s something for everyone. This year, we’ll welcome new groups, including Modern English, Crowder, Lit, Monsieur Perine, and Fonseca. And for the first time, Raul Acosta & Oro Solido will share the stage with Magic Juan, then return the next day with Luisito Ayala and The Puerto Rican Power Band in a series of unforgettable performances.* Garden Rocks Dining Packages Open Feb. 6 To guarantee priority seating for your preferred performances, be sure to check out Dining Packages, available at seven fabulous EPCOT restaurants: - Akershus Royal Banquet Hall - Biergarten Restaurant - Coral Reef Restaurant - Garden Grill Restaurant - Rose & Crown Dining Room - Le Cellier Steakhouse - Regal Eagle Smokehouse: Craft Brews & Barbecue (same-day, in-person walk-up packages only) For more information, including pricing and availability, visit DisneyWorld.com. Packages go on sale beginning Feb. 6. Flavor Abounds at Outdoor Kitchens It wouldn’t be an EPCOT festival without innovative and delicious dishes and drinks to savor! Stay tuned to Disney Travel News for the official Foodie Guide to EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival as we dish on all the new flavors coming to this year’s event, but in the meantime, we’re thrilled to share that many guest favorites will also return to Outdoor Kitchens located throughout the park. We can't wait to dig into Chicken & Waffles at The Honey Bee-stro Hosted by the National Honey Board! Also returning: the Muffuletta Panini at Magnolia Terrace and the Chocolate Whisky Cake at Northern Bloom. Inspiration and Play: There’s Something for Everyone Looking for interactive fun? At this year’s festival, the whole family can enjoy two seasonal scavenger hunts. Throughout the festival, follow Spike the Bee on his pollination trail where he’s “buzzing” to collect nectar from all the beautiful gardens with Spike’s Pollination Exploration. And for a limited time, guests can also hop around World Showcase for the Egg-stravaganza Hunt! Twelve beautiful, bunny-inspired eggs will be placed throughout the park; can guests find them all? Both scavenger hunt maps will be available for purchase while supplies last. Once the journey is complete – whether or not guests find all the items – they can redeem their map at Disney Traders, Creations Shop or World Traveler at International Gateway for a special surprise.** Also back this year, Butterfly Landing Presented by AdventHealth offers guests the chance to get up close and personal with some of nature’s most beautiful pollinators – butterflies! This walkthrough butterfly house highlights the lifecycle of butterflies and contains valuable pollinator gardens. At Blossoms of Fragrance Presented by Scentsy, guests create lasting memories with the help of unforgettable fragrances. And new this year, guests will be able to bring home some of their favorite fragrances experienced at Blossoms of Fragrance! Looking for a place to get a little energy out? At Camp Get Out N’ Play Garden Presented by OFF!, families can explore a camp-themed garden where kiddos can jump, play, climb and explore this area created just for them. So, summon the flower power, because everything will be coming up roses at the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival before we know it! *Entertainment subject to change without notice. **Redemption valid through May 27 or while supplies last. One thing about most American restaurants is that you can order kids meals. The two meals above are both kids meals from the Regal Eagle Smokehouse. They cost US$7.49 plus taxes each (roughly NZ$12.50).

A visit to Regal Eagle Smokehouse
Tumblr media
My husband and I finally made it over to Regal Eagle Smokehouse: Craft Drafts & Barbecue at Epcot.
Tumblr media
I selected the Kansas City Smoked Half-Chicken with seasoned fries as my side. The chicken was juicy and tender and the sauce was delish. I wish I picked the sauce slathered atop the chicken as my side sauce because it was so good, but I managed to find enough to spread around. The fries were awesome, crispy and perfectly spiced. But the homerun was the garlic toast that came with the dish, super soft, buttery and garlicky.
Tumblr media
My husband chose the BBQ Burger, served on garlic toast, topped with pork and garnished with a miniature American flag and onion ring — which I stole and ate, yum! Like me, he loved the toast. He said the burger was good, but the pork was the star of the sandwich. His side? Mac and cheese — which made him immediately want to return to the restaurant for more.

Best Places for...
A masterlist of the best places for pictures, show viewings, and food!
Magic Kingdom:
Pictures with Cinderella Castle- on the ramp in front of the castle
Viewing Festival of Fantasy- the road that runs from Liberty Square to the front of Adventureland (think in front of Country Bear Jamboree). It’s normally a lot less crowded than Main Street!
Viewing Happily Ever After- if you’re too close, you won’t be able to see the fireworks well. If you’re too far away, you won’t be able to see the projections. I recommend camping out behind Walt and Mickey’s statue, at the edge of the road, about an hour before it starts.
Viewing Mickey’s Friendship Faire- if you’re with kids, try to get as close as possible because they can interact with the characters.  However, if you’re viewing the show for the aesthetic value, stand further back so that you can see everything on stage.
Quick Service Food- I recommend Pecos Bill in Adventureland (Mexican food that will fill you up without draining your bank account), Columbia Harbour House in Liberty Square (Colonial American cuisine with familiar favorites), Sleepy Hollow in Liberty Square (great food, but limited options), and Pinocchio Village Haus in Fantasyland (Italian, pasta, pizza, salad, etc)
Sit Down Dining- If you can get a dinner reservation for Be Our Guest, do it!! I was never able to get in, but everyone I’ve talked to has said it’s incredible.  If you’re a fan of Pirates, Tortuga Tavern is the way to go.  If you dine at The Crystal Palace, you can be visited by the inhabitants of the Hundred Acre Wood.
Epcot:
Pictures with Spaceship Earth- right beyond security, to the left of the Monorail. It’s where the Leave A Legacy section used to be, if you visited Epcot before they moved it! (Creds to my friend Amie for passing on this info on to me before I left for Disney!)
Pictures around the World Showcase- I have no special tips for getting pictures in front of icons of the countries. The only one I’ve had problems with is the fountain in Italy. Normally, if you glare hard enough at the people sitting there, they’ll move eventually. You didn’t hear that from me.
Viewing Epcot Forever- Full disclosure, I never had the chance to see the full show. But, for what I know and what little I have seen, I can tell you that the best place to view the show is the Showcase Plaza, between Port of Entry and Traders.
Quick Service Food- The wonderful thing about Epcot is the enormous amount of variety you have before you. BUT, if you still want recommendations, I’ve got ‘em for you. Lotus Blossom Cafe in China, Sommerfest in Germany (next to Biergarten), Regal Eagle Smokehouse (not my personal favorite, but highly praised), and Crepes des Chefs de France in... you’ve guessed it- France.
Sit Down Dining- La Hacienda de San Angel in Mexico, you can participate in Princess Storybook Dining at Akershus Royal Banquet Hall in Norway, Nine Dragons Restaurant in China, Biergarten in Germany (the waiters are cute, trust me), Via Napoli Ristorante e Pizzeria in Italy, Spice Road Table in Morocco, Chefs de France in France, and Rose and Crown Pub in the UK.
Animal Kingdom:
This is my park, so I might be a little biased.
Pictures with the Tree of Life- If you want the full tree in the background, walk down to where they hold the Winged Encounters experience. People can’t get beyond the fence, so pose there! If you want a closer up photo that doesn’t have the whole tree, walk down one of the animal viewing trails or check out the Tree of Life Garden.
Viewing the Tree of Life Awakenings- As is with Happily Ever After, if you’re too close to the tree, you won’t be able to see the full projections. My favorite place to stand is between Island Mercantile and Discovery Trading Company, but again, that’s where I worked so I’m biased.
Quick Service Food- Flame Tree Barbecue! Might I suggest Flame Tree Barbecue? Harambe Market in Africa, Satu’li Canteen in Pandora, and Eight Spoon Cafe.
Sit Down Dining- Tiffins, Yak & Yeti Restaurant in Asia, and Tusker House in Africa.
I really, really wish I could give you guys tips for Hollywood Studios, but unfortunately, cast members were blocked out of Studios for the period of time that I was there. I can tell you that Backlot Express is fantastic for quick service food.

Guests can also create your own works of art with Disney PhotoPass Service, including limited-time Magic Shots created for this colorful celebration.** Visual Arts and Merch Inspire Awe One of the coolest parts of the festival is visiting galleries and meeting the artists who bring imaginative works to life. New and returning favorites will be part of this year’s lineup, so be sure to visit ArtfulEPCOT.com to stay up to date on the latest news. There’s no way that we can celebrate all things imagination without a visit from everyone’s favorite purple dragon – Figment! This lovable ambassador of whimsy takes center stage on a wide array of festival merch, ranging from household items and décor to apparel and trading items. Looking for a convenient way to pay? We love the beauty and convenience of the mini festival-themed Disney Gift Card. Load it with as little as $15 and wear it on a wrist for quick and easy scanning when purchasing all festival delights. Kids of all ages will want to engage in Figment’s Brush with the Master’s Scavenger Hunt. On this journey throughout World Showcase, guests will help Figment learn all about art. To get started, purchase a map and stickers at Creations Shop, Port of Entry, or World Traveler. Then, search for Figment hiding inside art inspired by famous works at each World Showcase pavilion—just look for the Figment-themed picture frame. Every time guests find Figment, they add the corresponding sticker to the pavilion on the map. Once the journey is complete, return the map to Disney Traders or World Traveler for an artful little keepsake!*** The EPCOT International Festival of the Arts will be here before we know it! *Entertainment subject to change without notice. **Disney PhotoPass service is subject to Disney PhotoPass terms and expiration policy at https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/photopass-terms-conditions. Bittersweet Epcot
As much as I love visiting the parks at Walt Disney World it's tough for me to do.
I'm either looking at something I once shared with my wife and son. Or looking at something new I'd like to share with them.
Both are extremely painful.
Still I headed out to Epcot today to rub salt in my wounds, err... I mean enjoy the day.
There was a Castmember preview for the new section of the France Pavillion and its attraction. Remy's Ratatouille Adventure.
The area was very well themed and the attraction was way too cute! But I'm partial to Remy as Ratatouille is one of my favorite Disney/Pixar movies.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Afterwards I hung around Epcot for a while and revisited some of my favorite attractions. Once again so bittersweet.
Had dinner at the Regal Eagle Smokehouse for the first time and it was good. Not spectacular or anything, but good.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Luckily I had a great Castmember discount to make the price reasonable. The total was still $17 but a LOT better then the $28 it could have been.
Today was my fun day after a day of errands yesterday.
First thing yesterday was an appointment for my latest CT scan. Aways fun. Then it was Mitze's first oil change (Mitze the Mitsubishi). Then the weekly gas and grocery stops.
The day ended with a trip to the Woodside Grill for a LPGA Amateur Golf Association ⛳ social event.
It's always fun to get together with the ladies and talk golf!
Though I'm getting frustrated at not being able to tee it up with them as of yet.
Got to find some way to get that done!
~Madison
