I'd been thinking about Frank Black earlier today, and I've been listening to a lot of Nation of Language this week, so it should have been no surprise when the algorithm gifted me this. I do love a good cover tune.

MOTHICA presents: Another High
Great storytell and the music video feets perfectly
“Another High” is a poignant and relatable narrative about the cycles of addiction. She shares, “When I stop one habit, I find new vices to indulge in to keep my mind busy. Some are definitely healthier than others. And I always joke that I wish I was addicted to exercising and sunshine instead of the things that are bad for me.”

MOTHICA is known for her confessional songwriting and genre-defying musical releases that blend dark pop with rock, synthwave, goth and electronica for a mesmerizing sonic fusion.

The Must-Visit Destinations Germany
Germany, with its rich history, vibrant culture, and stunning landscapes, offers a diverse array of attractions that cater to every type of traveler. From the bustling streets of Berlin to the fairytale castles of Bavaria, Germany is a treasure trove waiting to be explored. Whether you're a history buff, a nature enthusiast, or an art lover, Germany has something special for you. Here are some of the best places to visit in this captivating country.
Berlin: The Heart of Germany
Berlin, the capital city, is a dynamic blend of the old and the new. Its historical significance is palpable as you explore iconic sites like the Brandenburg Gate, the Berlin Wall, and Checkpoint Charlie. The city is also a hub of modern art, culture, and nightlife. The East Side Gallery, a preserved section of the Berlin Wall covered in murals, and the Museum Island, a UNESCO World Heritage site, are must-see attractions. Berlin's diverse neighborhoods, each with its unique vibe, offer endless opportunities for exploration.
Munich: Bavarian Charm and Oktoberfest
Munich, the capital of Bavaria, is renowned for its picturesque architecture, world-famous beer gardens, and vibrant cultural scene. Marienplatz, the central square, is the perfect starting point to explore the city's historic buildings, including the stunning New Town Hall. Munich is also home to the legendary Oktoberfest, the world's largest beer festival, which attracts millions of visitors each year. Don't miss a visit to the Nymphenburg Palace and the English Garden, one of the largest urban parks in the world.
Neuschwanstein Castle: A Fairytale Come to Life
Nestled in the Bavarian Alps, Neuschwanstein Castle is straight out of a storybook. Commissioned by King Ludwig II, this 19th-century Romanesque Revival palace served as the inspiration for Disney's Sleeping Beauty Castle. The castle's picturesque setting, surrounded by lush forests and towering mountains, makes it one of the most photographed sites in Germany. Guided tours offer a glimpse into the opulent interiors and the fascinating history of Ludwig II's dreamlike creation.
The Romantic Road: A Scenic Journey
The Romantic Road is a picturesque route that winds through some of Germany's most charming towns and villages. Starting in Würzburg and ending in Füssen, this scenic drive takes you through medieval towns, vineyards, and castles. Highlights include the walled town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber, known for its well-preserved medieval architecture, and the baroque city of Würzburg, with its impressive Residenz Palace. The journey culminates at Neuschwanstein Castle, providing a perfect end to this enchanting road trip.
The Black Forest: Nature's Wonderland
The Black Forest, or Schwarzwald, is a region of dense forests, rolling hills, and quaint villages. Famous for its cuckoo clocks, thermal spas, and scenic beauty, the Black Forest is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. Hiking, cycling, and skiing are popular activities in this area. The town of Baden-Baden, with its luxurious spas and casino, offers a touch of elegance, while Triberg is home to Germany's highest waterfalls and the Black Forest Museum, which showcases the region's rich cultural heritage.
Hamburg: The Gateway to the World
Hamburg, Germany's second-largest city, is a bustling port city with a unique maritime charm. The historic Speicherstadt, the world's largest warehouse district, and the modern HafenCity, with its striking Elbphilharmonie concert hall, showcase Hamburg's blend of old and new. Take a stroll along the Reeperbahn, known for its nightlife and entertainment, or relax at the serene Alster Lakes. Hamburg's rich musical heritage is evident in its numerous theaters, live music venues, and the Beatles' early performance venues.
Conclusion
Germany's diverse landscapes, rich history, and vibrant culture make it a destination that promises unforgettable experiences. Whether you're exploring the historic streets of Berlin, sipping beer in a Munich garden, or marveling at the fairytale beauty of Neuschwanstein Castle, each destination offers a unique glimpse into the heart and soul of Germany. Pack your bags and embark on an adventure that will leave you with memories to cherish for a lifetime.

Proto Neue Neue Deutsche Welle
Ein weiterer wichtiger Punkt ist Do It Yourself.

Why Every Aspiring Artist Should Attend Music Industry Conferences
In today’s hyper-competitive music industry, breaking through as an artist requires more than just talent. While strong songwriting and performance skills are essential, aspiring musicians must also be savvy about the business side of music. This is where music industry conferences come into play. These events are invaluable for emerging artists, offering knowledge, resources, and networking opportunities that can be hard to find elsewhere. Music industry conferences gather some of the brightest minds, most influential decision-makers, and innovative creators, all under one roof, giving artists access to a wealth of industry expertise and insights.
For those just starting out, attending music industry conferences can be a transformative experience. Whether it's meeting potential collaborators, connecting with record labels, or learning the latest marketing trends, these conferences can open doors that lead to career-defining moments. In this article, we’ll explore the many reasons why aspiring artists should prioritize these events and how attending can have a lasting impact on their musical journey.
1. Unparalleled Networking Opportunities
One of the most significant advantages of attending music industry conferences is the chance to network. As an aspiring artist, building a solid network within the industry is essential. Conferences gather a diverse mix of people, including producers, label executives, sound engineers, booking agents, and marketing professionals. Each interaction is an opportunity to form valuable connections that may later translate into collaborations, mentorships, or professional partnerships.
For example, at events like SXSW or Canadian Music Week, attendees can participate in networking sessions specifically designed for artists to meet label representatives and other key players. These sessions provide a relaxed setting for artists to showcase their work, share their stories, and connect with people who can help advance their careers. Networking at conferences not only builds valuable relationships but also creates visibility for emerging artists who might otherwise go unnoticed.
2. Learning Directly from Industry Leaders
In an industry as dynamic as music, staying up-to-date on current trends and practices is crucial. Music industry conferences provide an excellent opportunity for aspiring artists to learn directly from experts and established professionals. Keynote speakers, panelists, and workshop leaders offer insider insights on topics such as streaming monetization, music production, and effective marketing strategies.
Events like the Music Biz Conference or Reeperbahn Festival often feature discussions on streaming platforms, royalty distribution, and ways to gain more revenue from digital streams. These are valuable sessions for artists who want to understand how to maximize their income in the digital age. Additionally, panels that address brand-building and fan engagement offer strategies that can give emerging artists a competitive edge.
3. Exposure to Cutting-Edge Music Technology
Another significant benefit of music industry conferences is the opportunity to explore the latest music technology. For artists looking to produce their own music or develop a unique sound, understanding the tools available to them is essential. Conferences like NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) and Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) showcase state-of-the-art instruments, digital audio workstations, and other innovative technology solutions that can aid in music creation and distribution.
At these conferences, aspiring artists can demo the latest software, attend live demonstrations, and speak directly with representatives from tech companies. Whether it’s learning about AI-driven production tools or mastering software, this exposure can inspire new ideas and provide practical skills that will benefit artists in both recording and live performance settings.
4. Gaining Insights into Marketing and Fan Engagement
In today’s digital world, marketing is an integral part of any artist’s success. Music industry conferences are fantastic resources for understanding the latest techniques for reaching and engaging fans. In a field where artists are often responsible for their own social media, branding, and even merchandise, conferences provide crucial guidance on how to effectively market themselves.
At conferences like MIDEM+ and the Billboard Latin Music Week, there are panels and workshops focused on social media strategies, fanbase growth, and audience retention. These sessions equip artists with the tools they need to craft strong digital marketing campaigns, connect authentically with their fans, and grow their presence across platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. By understanding what resonates with audiences, artists can build loyal fanbases and strengthen their market position.
5. Getting a Grasp on the Business Side of Music
Understanding the business side of the music industry is essential for any artist, especially those who aspire to build a long-lasting career. Music industry conferences frequently cover business-related topics such as music rights, copyright laws, licensing, and distribution. These are areas that often seem complex but are critical for artists who want to protect their work and generate revenue from it.
For instance, conferences like Music Biz and A2IM Indie Week provide sessions specifically tailored to independent artists. Topics such as managing royalty splits, finding a distributor, and protecting intellectual property are addressed by legal and business experts who can simplify these complex issues. With a better grasp of these subjects, artists can make informed decisions that will impact their careers positively.
6. Discovering New Performance Opportunities
Many music industry conferences offer live showcase opportunities where emerging artists can perform in front of industry professionals and audiences. This kind of exposure can be invaluable, as it allows artists to gain visibility and even land career-boosting gigs. Events like SXSW, Canadian Music Week, and The Great Escape are known for hosting showcases that spotlight upcoming talent, providing attendees a platform to perform their music in front of labels, festival bookers, and music media.
Performing at these showcases can open the door to festival invitations, booking offers, and press coverage. For artists serious about building their fanbase and increasing their visibility, these performance opportunities can be career-defining moments that lead to broader recognition within the industry.
7. Staying Inspired and Motivated
Beyond the practical benefits, attending music industry conferences can be incredibly motivating for aspiring artists. The energy at these gatherings, fueled by shared passion and creativity, can re-ignite an artist’s drive to pursue their career goals. Being surrounded by others who share the same dedication and enthusiasm is inspiring, especially in a field as challenging as music.
Conferences create a unique environment where attendees are encouraged to explore new ideas, take creative risks, and push their boundaries. This collective motivation can be transformative, helping artists return to their work with renewed purpose, innovative ideas, and a fresh perspective on their artistic journey.
Conclusion
For aspiring artists, music industry conferences provide a gateway to growth, both professionally and personally. These events offer a wealth of resources that can be instrumental in shaping an artist’s career. From valuable networking opportunities to practical lessons on the business side of music, music industry conferences present artists with the tools they need to succeed in an increasingly competitive industry. They are platforms that foster learning, inspiration, and connections that can open doors to new possibilities and achievements.
Whether you’re just starting or looking to take your career to the next level, attending these conferences can be a transformative experience. By immersing yourself in this environment, you gain access to invaluable industry insights, meet like-minded individuals, and become part of a global community of music professionals. So, take the step to invest in your future by joining a music conference this year. It could very well be the experience that changes everything for your music career.
