Things Biden and the Democrats did, this week #7
Feb 23-March 1 2024
The White House announced $1.7 Billion in new commitments from local governments, health care systems, charities, business and non-profits as part of the White House Challenge to End Hunger and Build Healthy Communities. The Challenge was launched with 8 billion dollars in 2022 with the goal of ending hunger in America by 2030. The Challenge also seeks to drastically reduce diet-related diseases (like type 2 diabetes). As part of the new commitments 16 city pledged to make plans to end hunger by 2030, the largest insurance company in North Carolina made nutrition coaching and a healthy food delivery program a standard benefit for members, and since the challenge launched the USDA's Summer EBT program has allowed 37 states to feed children over the summer, its expected 21 million low income kids will use the program this summer.
The US House passed a bill on Nuclear energy representing the first update in US nuclear energy policy in decades, it expands the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and reduces reducing licensing fees. Nuclear power represents America's single largest source of clean energy, with almost half of carbon-free electricity coming from it. This bill will boost the industry and make it easier to build new plants
Vice President Harris announced key changes to the Child Care & Development Block Grant (CCDBG) program. The CCDBG supports the families of a million American children every month to help afford child care. The new changes include capping the co-pay families pay to no more than 7% of their income. Studies show that high income families pay 6-8% of their income in childcare while low income families pay 31%. The cap will reduce or eliminate fees for 100,000 families saving them an average of over $200 a month. The changes also strength payments to childcare providers insuring prompt payment.
The House passed a bill making changes to the Small Business Administration’s 8(a) program. The 8(a) is an intensive 9 year program that offers wide ranging training and support to small business owners who are socially and economically disadvantaged, predominantly native owned businesses. Under the current structure once a business reaches over 6.8 million in assets they're kicked off the program, even though the SBA counts anything under $10 million as a small business, many companies try to limit growth to stay on the program. The House also passed a bill to create an Office of Native American Affairs at the SBA, in order to support Native-owned small businesses.
The White House and HUD announced steps to boost the housing supply and lower costs plans include making permanent the Federal Financing Bank Risk Sharing program, the program has created 12,000 affordable housing units since 2021 with $2 billion and plans 38,000 additional units over ten years. As well as support for HUD's HOME program which has spent $4.35 billion since 2021 to build affordable rental homes and make home ownership a reality for Americans. For the first time an administration is making funds available specifically for investments in manufactured housing, $225 million. 20 million Americans live in manufactured housing, the largest form of unsubsidized affordable housing in the country, particularly the rural poor and people in tribal communities.
The Department of Energy announced $336 million in investments in rural and remote communities to lower energy costs and improve reliability. The projects represent communities in 20 states and across 30 Native tribes. 21% of Navajo Nation homes and 35% of Hopi Indian Tribe homes remain unelectrified, one of the projects hopes to bring that number to 0. Another project supports replacing a hydroelectric dam in Alaska replacing all the Chignik Bay Tribal Council's diesel power with clear hydro power. The DoE also announced $18 million for Transformative Energy projects lead by tribal or local governments and $25 million for Tribal clean energy projects, this comes on top of $75 million in Tribal clean energy projects in 2023
Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg put forward new rules to ensure airline passengers who use wheelchairs can travel safely and with dignity. Under the planned rules mishandling a wheelchair would be a violation of the ACAA, airlines would be required to immediately notify the passenger of their rights. Airlines would be required to repair or replace the wheelchair at the preferred vendor of the passenger's choice as well as provide a loaner wheelchair that fits the passenger's needs/requirements
The EPA launched a $3 Billion dollar program to help ports become zero-emission. This investment in green tech and zero-emission will help important transportation hubs fight climate change and replace some of the largest concentrations of diesel powered heavy equipment in America.
the EPA announced $1 Billion dollars to help clean up toxic Superfund sites. This is the last of $3.5 billion the Biden administration has invested in cleaning up toxic waste sites known as Superfund sites. This investment will help finish clean up at 85 sites across the country as well as start clean up at 25 new sites. Many Superfund sites are contained and then left not cleaned for years even decades. Thanks to the Biden-Harris team's investment the EPA has been able to do more clean up of Superfund sites in the last 2 years than the 5 years before it. More than 25% of America's black and hispanic population live with-in 5 miles of a Superfund site.
Bonus: Sweden cleared the final major barrier to become NATO's 32nd member. The Swedish Foreign Minster is expected to fly to Washington to deposit the articles of accession at the US State Department. NATO membership for Sweden and its neighbor Finland (joined last year) has been a major foreign policy goal of President Biden in the face of Russian aggressive against Ukraine. Former President Trump has repeatedly attacked NATO and declared he wants to leave the 75 year old Alliance, even going so far as to tell Russia to "do whatever the hell they want" with European NATO allies

Good News - March 15-21
Like these weekly compilations? Support me on Ko-fi! Also, if you tip me on here or Ko-fi, at the end of the month I’ll send you a link to all of the articles I found but didn’t use each week - almost double the content! (I’m new to taking tips on here; if it doesn’t show me your username or if you have DM’s turned off, please send me a screenshot of your payment)
1. Comeback on the cards for Asian antelope declared extinct in Bangladesh
“Nilgais, the largest antelope species in Asia, are reappearing in northwestern Bangladesh, a country that was part of their historical range but where they were declared locally extinct in the 1930s due to habitat loss and hunting.”
2. Tribal Homes in Minnesotta [sic] Get $1.4M for Clean Electricity
““This grant will allow us to make electrification improvements to our members’ homes and involve them more directly in our efforts to change our energy narrative and achieve our net zero goal.””
3. Pollinators Flock to Flower-Filled Solar Panel Fields
“As populations of crucial pollinators decline, developers have been seeding the grounds of their solar arrays with native wildflowers. Now a five-year study published in Environmental Research Letters confirms that this approach boosts the pollinators’ abundance and diversity—with spillover benefits for surrounding farms.”
4. U.S. House of Representatives Passes WILD Act
“The WILD Act supports funding two different initiatives: […] the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Partners for Fish and Wildlife Program offers critical support for voluntary conservation initiatives[, and…] The Multinational Species Conservation Funds play a pivotal role in supporting the conservation of imperiled species globally”
5. Private Gender Affirming Care Ban Fails To Advance In England After "Ferret Filibuster"
“A bill banning puberty blockers for trans youth and defining sex to exclude trans people was blocked from being heard after Labour MPs spoke at length on pet names and ferrets.”
6. Community-Led Effort to Plant Thousands of Seedlings
“Despite its urban surroundings, [the Tucki Tucki] creek serves as a vital refuge for the endangered platypus and purple spotted gudgeon populations. […] Planting native vegetation along the water’s edge serves multiple purposes. Not only does it provide crucial habitat for the endangered species, but it also helps stabilise the banks, mitigating erosion and reducing sedimentation in the creek.”
7. Court Ruling Halts Wolf Trapping and Snaring in Idaho Grizzly Bear Habitat
“[The ruling] will stop trapping and snaring […] to prevent the unlawful take of Endangered Species Act-protected grizzly bears. The decision stated, “There is ample evidence in the record, including from Idaho’s own witnesses, that lawfully set wolf traps and snares are reasonably likely to take grizzly bears in Idaho.””
8. A Boston grocery store is bringing community solar to a low-income area
“A group of energy-equity advocates in Boston is launching a community solar cooperative they say could be a scalable model for both reducing carbon emissions and building wealth in disadvantaged communities.”
9. Two-faced solar panels can generate more power at up to 70% less cost
“Scientists at the University of Surrey have built a new kind of solar panel with two faces, both of them pretty. Their flexible perovskite panels have electrodes made of tiny carbon nanotubes. These can generate more power with greater efficiency and at a cost 70% lower than existing solar panels.”
10. It's a boy! Athens zoo welcomes birth of rare pygmy hippo
“A rare and endangered pygmy hippopotamus has been born in Athens’ Attica Zoological Park for the first time in 10 years, delighting conservationists. A lack of male pygmy hippos in captivity had complicated breeding efforts, so zoo staff were “absolutely thrilled” the baby was a boy”

Memory
She drags her. The ambush done around 13 minutes ago. Her optics flash through orange and blue and on repeat. She keeps whispering as her optics keep focusing on the drone in front of her, rather than a madwoman's ramble, it is one of impossibility, she had not seen a ghost, she was seeing a drone she wouldn't believe to have been able to see again.
Her own thoughts were getting cloudy. As she kept holding her by the armpits, dragging her away from those foul beasts she had luckily reduced with the EMP and of which the sentinels would take care now. She was speechless in the proper term, for her own whispers were even getting to her, she just stared at the beautiful face, the one with a warning sign coming and going from its visor, and she saw them, together, time and again.
She expected to feel anger, vicious need to rip her limbs off one at the time, asking, needing an answer as to why, but it all had vanished into the sands of her charred hearth, which started beating back to life, her hold was as soft as she could manage it, and she was vigilant, for no one was going to lay harm into this memory that came back from the dead to be on her arms.
The memory, the precious memory of a love lost, but now found, she had changed, a ton, she stared at the renewed body with both confusion and glee, her own tail wagged at time excitedly as she, unable to help it, brushed at times the hairs. A feeling so long not felt was dwelling on her.
She had pushed all down, into a solid coffin to forget about it, except the anger, but now the flames of revenge had been earthed, and she was missing a sense of being right now. There was little, very little ideas of what to do with her once back into the safe office she and Beau had.
They would talk, they needed to talk. About so much, was that ring even on some of the drawers from that place? This hole was messing with her data banks, but she knew it had to be around, somewhere.
Many questions, to be spelled and their answers heard*
Her optics glitched again, face hesitating on going soft as she kept staring at Nori, blue and orange, both sides of her soul stared at the unconscious drone.
It had to be her, right? It had to be her Nori...
Fate would not play with her again, and even if it...her...or whatever this was wasn't. She will fix it; fix whatever it was there to fix.
Mind and body, they were easy to fix on them, they were machines, after all...
Her optics once again shifted, orange.
Mumbling ~ Perhaps a 'I love you still' or a 'Why did you leave?' at the memory she couldn't let go. And at the one she was most secure to fix if something had gone wrong while she was outside.
++++
Hoping this small fic was to your liking.

Excerpt from this story from Anthropocene Magazine:
I write about the climate and energy for a living and even I can’t quite wrap my head around how cheap low-carbon power technologies have gotten. The cost of onshore wind energy has dropped by 70% over just the last decade, and that of batteries and solar photovoltaic by a staggering 90%. Our World in Data points out that within a generation, solar power has gone from being one of the most expensive electricity sources to the cheapest in many countries—and it’s showing little signs of slowing down.
So where does this all end?
Back in the 1960s, the nuclear industry promised a future in which electricity was too cheap to meter. Decades later, the same vision seems to be on the horizon again, this time from solar. It seems, well, fantastic. Perhaps (almost) free renewable power leads to climate utopia. Then again, should we be careful what we wish for?
The Road To Decarbonization Is Paved With Cheap Green Power
1. More renewables = less carbon. The math isn’t complicated. The faster we transition to clean energy, the less carbon dioxide we’re adding to the atmosphere and the fewer effects of global warming we will suffer. While humanity is still emitting more greenhouse gases than ever, the carbon intensity of electricity production has been dropping for well over a decade.
2. Cheap, clean power also unlocks humanitarian goals. Modern civilization rests on a foundation of electricity. Beyond its obvious uses in heating, cooling, cooking, lighting and data, electricity can decarbonize transportation, construction, services, water purification, and food production. Increasing the supply and reducing the cost of green electricity doesn’t just help the climate, it improves equity and quality of life for the world’s poorest.
3. Scrubbing the skies will take a lot of juice. Once we get emissions under control, it’s time to tackle the mess we’ve made of the atmosphere. Today’s direct air capture (DAC) systems use about two megawatt hours of electricity for every ton of CO2 plucked from fresh air. Scale that up to the 7 to 9 million tons we need to be removing annually in the US by 2030, according to the World Resources Institute, and you’re looking at about 0.5% of the country’s current energy generation. Scale it again to the nearly 1,000 billion tons the IPCC wants to sequester during the 21st century, and we’ll need every kilowatt of solar power available—the cheaper the better.
Cheap Power Has Hidden Costs
1. Cheap technology doesn’t always mean cheap power. If solar cells are so damn cheap, why do electricity bills keep rising? One problem is that renewables are still just a fraction of the energy mix in most places, about 20% in the US and 30% globally. This recent report from think-tank Energy Innovation identifies volatility in natural gas costs and investments in uneconomic coal plants as big drivers for prices at the meter. Renewables will have to dominate the energy mix before retail prices can fall.
2. The cheaper the power, the more we’ll waste. Two cases in point: cryptocurrency mining and AI chat bots. Unless we make tough social and political decisions to fairly price carbon and promote climate action, the market will find its own uses for all the cheap green power we can generate. And they may not advance our climate goals one inch.
3. Centuries of petro-history to overcome. Cheap power alone can only get us so far. Even with EVs challenging gas cars, and heat pumps now outselling gas furnaces in the US, there is a monumental legacy of fossil fuel systems to dismantle. Getting 1.5 billion gas cars off the world’s roads will take generations, and such changes can have enormous social costs. To help smooth the transition, the Center for American Progress suggests replacing annual revenue-sharing payments from coal, oil, and natural gas production with stable, permanent distributions for mining and oil communities, funded by federal oil and gas revenue payments.

Hello it's been 7 years on this website and I come with raccoon paws scratching at your window pane.
TLDR: I'm supporting 3- 6 humans, a mortgage, inflated electric bills, student loans, basic needs, and working as the sole provider and now I cannot afford my medicine that prevents my migraines. If you want cheap art I am here hi just remember I'm colorblind so colors won't be perfect.
I take many medications for my migraine condition. I take a daily preventative, an abortive when I have a migraine, and then I have a monthly preventative that is an injectable. I need all of these to get me down to 6 or 8 migraines a month. If it rains I have more but this is with medication. If I do not have one of these medications I have migraines daily and if I encounter a trigger like not getting enough sleep, the weather changing, smoking, etc I'll get knocked out.
Unfortunately I have brainstem migraines which impacts my speech and ability to move in my environment. I continue to work through my migraines because I have literally no choice. I basically look and sound drunk it's horribly embarrassing.
This impacts my ability to drive too. If it strikes at work I need to uber home because my coworkers won't drive me home and no one else has a license.
If I miss one dose of any of my medications it sets off a migraine conga line qs I like to call it and I begin having migraines every 2- 3days and the longer I am off it the more migraines I steadily have.
It's hell.
My migraine medication is 208$. I am currently the only working adult for a household of three and there will soon be three children here for the summer.
Unfortunately I had serotonin syndrome a few weeks ago as some of you know and that had me out of work for a week and a half. Meaning I lost a week and a half pay check. Which may not seem like much but we live in constant poverty and are food insecure.
Literally every dollar counts in our precarious position.
The electricity company in western New York is super charging its customers so a regular electric bill for a house using less electric than average is 300- 500$ a month. Which is just a little less than our mortgage
We currently owe over a 1,000 in back pay, there isn't any relief for individuals who cannot pay the inflated rates. It's totally crazy but I need my medication. I can call the electric company and beg but I can't beg for my medicine.
My field also experiences a drop in attendence in the summer and due to my health my boss I'd trying to reduce my hours to help my body recover. That's great and all but it doesn't help me get the money I need for my injection.
My student loans are 875$ a month and I'm on the lowest payment plan and the government just sold my loans to a private company so I will be paying additional loans soon.
As you can see I have a lot on my plate but I just need that migraine medicine so I can work through it. I do a lot of passive income through survey junkies but I can't do those activities when I'm migraining.
All the images below are works in progress
Basic pencil and ink illustration
Comic book pages 15- 30 depending on content and number of pages.
if you want a comic badly and feel OK with my abilities we can work on a manageable and low price to make multiple pages happen. So bulk pages will be cheaper.
Comic book featured custom outlets??? Just resin customized outlet covers???
Can do
Painting I mean I'm trying it but if you'd like one hmu man
I tinker around with a lot of stuff
I also like to find old toys/statues and remake them so if youre interested in my raccoon art that stuff is up for new homes that will appreciate their unique beauty and love them for who they are.
Thanks for your attention and happy scrolling!!

INDIGENOUS INTERSEX TRANS PERSON IN NEED OF FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
please don’t scroll!!! my name is rafael, i am an a:shiwi/zuni pueblo ndn. my partner and i are seeking about $400 to help pay off half of our electric bill so we can have access to necessary medical equipment and a/c as things warm up here in the coastal southeast usa
we are aiming to qualify for duke energy’s payment program, but we need to reduce the total amount of our bill before we can qualify.
i had a major surgery ($1,600) to remove what we thought was one (but ended up being four) tumor(s) from my uterus earlier this year, and the next month my partner had to get an MRI ($700) and sleep study ($600) done as a routine eye exam found that he had intracranial hypertension. he was diagnosed with severe central sleep apnea with 104 instances of not breathing AN HOUR, and we have had to buy a bipap which has cost about $2,000 and requires electricity to run.
because my partner is and has been extremely chronically ill, i usually work to support us, but i am recovering from my own surgery, have no college degree, and have no experience in anything but labor-heavy positions. needless to say, we have almost nothing left to support ourselves.
where we are there is little/no community support, and we have exhausted all charitable options in paying rent ($1,500) this month.
please, please—we are desperate, we have almost no food left and can’t afford for our power to be cut. anything helps. please boost this.

Sighhhh. I am struggling today. Deleted my last post because I’m trying to be more grateful and not let this negativity win.
We found out we have to pay 480$ to turn the electric on. They can only reduce that with proof of payment/service from another service within the last consecutive 12 months. Despite having service with them from June 2021-July 2023, it doesn’t count since it wasn’t the last 12 months in a row. Superb 🙄
BUT thankfully I have enough left on my credit for that plus the movers we have to get because we don’t have any support here to help move anymore.
Uber is still paying the bills. Every time things look scary, God comes through. So I’m trying to take things as they come.
We haven’t missed a bill yet, so I don’t see why that would start now.
We’re so close.

Carport Canopies
Carports are a great way to protect your car from the elements. They are easy to install, economical, and can be matched to your house to add a custom look to your property.
The frame of a canopy can be cleaned with a simple soapy water solution, but you should reserve more abrasive cleaning for stubborn stains and mold.
Easy to Assemble
All of ALEKO’s carport canopy packages come with a user manual and all the necessary hardware needed for an easy assembly process. Even the largest model can be assembled by two people in about 6 to 8 hours.
Using galvanized steel and powder-coated pipes, the temporary garage shelter is highly durable and rust resistant. This makes it a great option for outdoor equipment storage, bulk storage, and off-season gear. The carport also features a high-quality PE fabric that protects cars, trucks and equipment from sun exposure and rain.
To assemble the portable metal carport, you simply connect the pipes using T-connectors and angled connectors. You can then add the tarp and use the anchors to secure it to the ground. For best results, ALEKO recommends that you install the anchors in groups of three for added stability. The anchors can be used for either dirt, gravel or asphalt applications. In addition, the portable carports can be placed on concrete bases for additional security.
Affordability
Carport canopies are a great way to keep your vehicle under cover without breaking the bank. They are also very easy to assemble, allowing you to protect your vehicle in no time at all.
When shopping for a new canopy it is important to consider the material used and if the frame has been powder coated. This will help to prevent corrosion and rust on the steel, which will in turn lengthen the lifespan of the structure.
A good option is a portable model that uses galvanized steel and has polycarbonate roofs, which are both very strong and durable. These models will typically have a slightly higher price tag than permanent ones, which can be made from a variety of materials but tend to be sturdier as they do not focus on portability or ease of set up. This is because they are designed to be permanently fixed in position and will often have a higher build quality with thicker materials.
Versatility
A carport can be a very versatile addition to your home. It can protect your vehicles and other belongings from different weather elements, as well as provide a shelter for outdoor activities such as parties and BBQs. It also adds value to your property and can increase its curb appeal.
Carports come in a variety of styles, from those that resemble fully structured shelters to canopy models that look more like large tents. Your specific needs and budget will determine which one is right for you.
The VEVOR carport is a high-quality model that offers a lot of value for the price. Its durable fabric is water- and UV-resistant, making it a great choice for year-round use. Its frame uses patented ShelterLock stabilizers for increased stability, and its Ratchet-Tite cover tensioning system helps to ensure a tight cover and door panel connection. Commercial Solar Panels – Why Choose Commercial Solar Panels in Lake Macquarie?
Lake Macquarie residents & businesses are prioritising saving dollars & the environment with solar. On average, a residential solar system in the 2280 postcode area produces over 25kW a day, with surplus power fed back into the grid for a generous 5c per kilowatt-hour feed in tariff.
A commercial solar system can efficiently generate both electricity & hot water during peak hours, drastically reducing your business’s energy costs. It also offsets greenhouse gas emissions.
Generating Electricity
If you live in Lake Macquarie, it’s a great place to install solar panels because it gets excellent sun irradiation. We can provide you with a range of solar energy solutions, from solar hot water systems through to power systems and battery storage.
Our experienced team can help you find the right solution for your home or business. We can help you compare the benefits of different products to determine which will best suit your needs. We can also help you secure finance to pay for your new solar system, if required.
Solar panels generate electricity and provide you with alternative green power, significantly reducing your power bills and carbon emissions. You can even sell excess electricity back to your energy retailer via a feed in tariff, potentially generating a profit.
In NSW, you usually need to apply for Council approval to install Solar Panels. This is because they are an alteration to your property and may impact its appearance, structural stability or fire safety requirements.
Generating Hot Water
Using the sun’s free energy to produce hot water reduces the load on your electricity system and lowers your power bills. You’ll also be helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Solar hot water systems can be standalone or packaged with a conventional storage or tankless water heater for backup on cloudy days and when demand is high.
Solar hot water systems use flat plate collectors, evacuated tubes or a thermosyphon system to collect the heat from the sun and convert it into domestic hot water (DHW). They are also available with a gas back-up for cloudy days.
Eligible house-owners can get a rebate from the NSW government through the Small-Scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES) and receive discounted energy products such as a top-of-the-range solar water heater or home battery. Interested people should contact approved suppliers to scrutinize their needs and organize several financial quotations. They can also opt for solar leasing, a flexible financing option that allows them to enjoy the benefits of a solar energy system with no upfront payment required.
Reduced Power Bills
Solar energy systems are an efficient means of producing electricity on-site and lowering commercial energy bills. This is because they reduce reliance on other energy providers, and hence the higher prices that come with them.
Furthermore, the free energy provided by the sun is a highly reliable power source. As such, a commercial solar system will produce more energy than required, which can be exported to the grid for a subsidised power bill or stored in a home battery.
Additionally, energy savings can be increased by implementing simple energy efficiency measures such as timers on equipment and installing efficient lighting, e.g. LEDs. In this way, a commercial solar system will begin to pay for itself through energy savings within a few years and continue saving businesses money every year thereafter. In addition, the use of renewable energy also reduces greenhouse gas emissions. This is a win for your business and the planet!
Sustainability
With the world’s attention focused on climate change and fossil fuel use, many people are now demanding businesses practice environmental responsibility. One of the easiest ways to do this is by switching to renewable energy sources like solar.
Commercial solar systems can help a business cut their electricity bills by generating their own power using the sun’s energy. This also minimizes their reliance on the main grid, which reduces overall power costs and carbon emissions.
As the most popular form of solar, photovoltaic (PV) panels produce clean energy that doesn’t contribute to greenhouse gas emissions or other forms of pollution. A commercial solar system can be used for both electricity and hot water, providing substantial savings on energy bills for businesses. These savings are even higher when a solar battery is included with your commercial solar system. These batteries store excess energy for later use when the sun is not out. They can also help with peak load management, reducing demand on the main grid and minimizing your power bills during these times.

Solar Rebate Perth - Financial Incentives For Homeowners and Businesses to Go Green
The benefits of solar power are numerous, particularly for homeowners who want to save on electricity costs. A solar system also helps reduce reliance on fossil fuels and supports the environment.
If you’re considering a solar energy solution, you should know that there are a number of government incentives to help reduce your upfront costs. This is achieved through Small-scale Technology Certificates, or STCs.
Small-Scale Renewable Energy Scheme
Financial incentives from the government are available for homeowners and businesses to install Solar Rebate Perth energy systems. These incentives are based on the size and location of the system. Homeowners will receive Small-scale Technology Certificates (STC), a once-off rebate that can help reduce the upfront cost of the solar system. At Perth Solar Warehouse, we monitor STCs closely and itemise the amount of the rebate on our quotes and invoices for maximum transparency.
This scheme enables you to get a substantial reduction on the upfront price of your solar power system. Your solar system will generate electricity by converting sunlight into direct current electricity using photovoltaic panels. This will then be converted to alternating current electricity by an inverter. This electricity will be exported to the grid and credited to your account. The number of STCs you will receive depends on the size of your solar system and the zone you live in. Each zone has a different rating and multiplier.
Feed-in Tariffs
A solar feed-in tariff is the rate at which a retailer pays for the electricity your system exports to the grid. It is a crucial component of any solar energy system and is reviewed each year along with regulated electricity prices. If you install a battery, you can also become part of a virtual power plant (VPP), which draws from the energy stored in your battery to help reduce peak demand and deliver higher financial benefits.
Feed-in tariffs vary by state. For example, the NSW government once offered a generous 60 cent per kWh all-day tariff that ended on 31 December 2016, but now energy retailers set their own rates and payouts. A typical residential subsidy for a 6.6 kW system is 92 STC’s x market value = $3312.
Most solar installers factor the potential rebate into their quotes, so it is included in the total cost of your system. This is itemised on your quote and invoice for transparency.
Export Payments
The WA government offers a variety of incentives to homeowners interested in going green and saving on electricity bills. This includes the Distributed Energy Buyback Scheme (DEBS), which pays you for any excess energy your solar panels perth cost system sends back to the grid. DEBS rates vary depending on the time of day your solar system is generating. For example, from 3PM to 9PM the peak rate is 10 cents per kilowatt-hour, while non-peak times are around 3 cents.
These rates are determined by your location and which one of the STC 'zones' you live in. As a result, your rebate amount is a function of both the size of your solar PV system and your zone. However, unlike the national rebate, which is a point-of-sale discount on your purchase, the STC program offers no money back once you've installed your solar system. This is why it's important to consider the options available carefully before investing in a new solar power system.
Tax Credits
The government gives homeowners something called STCs for switching to solar energy. These STCs help pay for the installation of a small-scale power system. The more powerful the system is, the more STCs you get. Some STCs may be offered as a point-of-sale discount for customers who purchase solar systems from accredited retailers and installers.
The STC rebate value can be complicated to calculate, and changes in market conditions can affect the final value of a solar system. The best way to find out how much your system will earn in STCs is to consult an experienced and accredited solar retailer in WA.
Homeowners who generate more electricity than they need can sell it back to the grid through the DEBS scheme. DEBS offers different rates at different times of the day, reflecting electricity wholesale costs and demand. This is designed to encourage households to use solar energy during midday and install west-facing panels to align their output with peak demand in the evening.
