Pair Eyewear
My writing (and YouTube channel, and a couple other of my interests) had taken a bit of a backseat lately, because I found a new special interest to distract me:

(Note: this turned into a bit of a longer post, so I put it behind a cut. I am NOT sponsored by/affiliated with Pair in any way, I just wanted to share some of my personal thoughts/experiences with them thus far.)
I knew my eyesight was changing just a little bit (not to a point in which I couldn't see, but I could still tell it wasn't 100% the same), and it had been years since my last eye checkup. I had to wait quite a bit for my eye appointment to be scheduled, and then wait for the appointment day to arrive.
It was really hard to wait because in the meantime, I'd discovered the beauty of Pair Eyewear, and just how addicting it can be. Longer story short, for those of you who've never heard of it: Imagine getting a pair of glasses, and then making that frame look (decoration-wise) almost any way you want/can imagine - either to match any outfit, or reflect any interest/decorative idea. That's Pair. Glasses with small magnets on the base frame - and then you can order different tops (also w/ magnets on them, to stay on the base pair) to align over the base pair to make them look different.

...Not enough? Fine - you can also find people who create and sell their own toppers on Etsy (depending on the style of base frame you get - some people don't create for all styles) or Facebook. Really - the only limit is your imagination (...or your wallet, I suppose, lol).
There's also over 10 different styles of base frames (round, rectangular, cat-eye, narrow, medium, wide, etc), and 6 different colors the base frames can come in, so there's tons of room for customization.
When I finally had my eye appt. (more on that in a sec) and got my glasses prescription, I could finally try out Pair! I picked out the 'Reese' base frame (narrow, round frames... cat-eye frames ad rectangular frames seem to be really popular, but they're not for me personally).
Again - much longer story short, I loved seeing all the different colors/designs/types of toppers I could choose from (toppers range from $20-30 each, depending). After quite a bit of time looking at tons of them (and they're also coming out w/ a 'summer collection' in a couple days, God help me, lol), I purchased my base frame, a sunglasses topper, and a few other toppers from Pair:

I didn't order the star ones in time for Memorial Day, but I'll still have 'em for July 4th. The cheeseburger ones were so goofy that I knew I HAD to buy them (LOL), the silver sparkle ones were pretty, and Spider-Man is totally my young son's thing, so I knew I had to get those too. (I got a few more from misc. sellers on Facebook - I'll talk about those when they arrive in the mail)
The base frames start at $60 - however. That's the price for either a single-strength prescription, or if you just wanted to get Non-Rx glasses (blue light blocking, OTC readers, etc).
I was not as lucky, lol.
The good news is that without glasses, my eyesight is technically still 20/20 - I can see 'legally' well enough that it doesn't hinder my driving or everyday life much. But my eyesight is starting to go a tiny bit - I've worn OTC reading glasses (+1.50s) for years, and turns out I also am starting to have a tiny bit of trouble reading tiny print 100% clearly from further away (think like, hanging menus in take-out restaurants - I can read them, but the words aren't 100% crisp like they would be in someone w/ perfect eyesight).
The optometrist told me I could go w/o glasses if I wanted and I'd be fine (unless my sight suddenly got worse, and I'll get them rechecked in 2 years) - but if I wanted to wear glasses, I'd either have to get 2 different pairs (one for reading, one for further away) or just get readers and deal w/ the slightly blurry further-away tiny words.
ANYWAY - I really wanted my Pairs (lol), so I ordered what is called 'Progressive' lenses - think like, bifocals w/o the lines in the lenses. I've heard that some angles in the lenses can look slightly distorted & it may take a tiny bit if getting used to - but I was willing to take the risk (I've heard mostly good things about Par progressive glasses).
Progressive/bifocal/multifocal lenses, obviously because they have more than one strength, will cost more than just the $60 base price. Depending on what your Rx needs are (plus you can add-on blue light-blocking features, transition lenses that darken in brighter light, and some other options if you want - I did not), the cost can go from $60 to a few hundred dollars (off the top of my head, I think mine were in the $200-range).
...Yes, this is definitely more pricey - but (in theory) I would see better, and with all the customization options I had, it was worth the money. Some people have several pairs of glasses just b/c they want different styles/looks... this is ONE pair w/ different toppers you can change out. Plus, some people spend that much (or more!) for REGULAR glasses, so really - seemed totally worth it.

Bare conductors or stranded wires with rectangular or circular cross-section are mostly used for the connection of bus bars to voltage distribution devices at all levels in the substation, as well as the connection of electrical equipment such as transformers and corresponding distribution devices, which are collectively referred to as bus bars,.
 Bus duct is a high-efficiency power distribution device, which especially meets the needs of economic and reasonable wiring in higher and higher buildings and large-scale factories. With the emergence of modern engineering facilities and equipment, the power consumption of all walks of life is increasing rapidly, especially the emergence of many high-rise buildings and large workshops. The traditional cable as a transmission conductor can no longer meet the requirements in the high current transmission system. The parallel use of multi-channel cables has brought a lot of inconvenience to the on-site installation and construction connection.
 So what is the difference between bus and bus duct? Busbar bending machine are actually one closed and one not closed. Enclosed bus is called bus duct for short, that is to say, bus duct is the vest of enclosed bus. Enclosed bus and bus duct refer to the same thing,. Enclosed bus is a bus system composed of metal plate (steel plate or aluminum plate) as protective shell, conductive bar, insulating material and relevant accessories. It has the advantages of compact structure, high insulation strength, large transmission current, good interchangeability, stable electrical performance, easy installation and maintenance A series of characteristics such as long service life. It is widely used in the connection of power supply and distribution systems such as industrial and mining enterprises, high-rise buildings and public facilities.
 Unclosed bus, referred to as bus for short, refers to the connection of voltage distribution devices at all levels in the substation, as well as the connection of electrical equipment such as transformers and corresponding distribution devices,. Most of them use bare wires or stranded wires with rectangular or circular cross-section, which are collectively referred to as ordinary bus. It is generally used for the connection between combined distribution cabinets. It is hidden in the combined cabinet, so it is relatively safe.
   Matters needing attention in the selection of bus:
   As the link equipment of modern electrical quality inspection, bus has become more and more popular. The connection of bus has many advantages in use. For example, its Anquan function is high, the occupied space is small, the current carrying capacity is large, the voltage drop is small, and so on. Now many buses are used in high-rise buildings and industrial buildings. Pay attention to the following characteristics when selecting bus.
 First of all, the setting of bus protector can refer to small technical parameters when selecting bus. There are many buses with the same conductor cross-sectional area and the same material,. However, its working efficiency is quite different. It is considered that to reduce the gap between them, the bus protector must be set to ensure the high-speed an Quan operation of the whole electrical system.
 Secondly, when selecting the bus, we should pay attention to its application occasions. Some buses are required to be fire-resistant and water-resistant. They are also different in the occasions of use. For example, the selected bus needs to have fire-resistant function. At the scene of fire, it can ensure the correct transport capacity of power and its normal use value.
 Third, when the bus is plugged into the box with interlocking device, it should be able to prevent the injury of electric arc to people caused by man-made on-load plugging.

   Selection of bus duct:

It is mostly used for indoor power distribution devices of 35kV and below. Sometimes, aluminum tube bus duct is also used for outdoor power distribution devices of 110kV ~ 220kV.
   (1) The vertical power transmission and distribution of high-rise buildings shall use compact bus duct to prevent chimney effect, and its conductor shall be coated with flame-retardant materials with long-term working temperature not lower than 130 ℃. Fire blocking partition shall be set between floors, and fire blocking material shall be used for fire blocking partition. Fire resistant bus duct shall be selected for emergency power supply, and toxic gas endangering personal safety shall not be released.
 (2) The high-capacity bus duct can be the compact bus duct with good heat dissipation. If the air bus duct is selected, the enclosure protection grade of IP30 can be used only in the special workplace.
 (3) The interface of bus duct is relatively easy to be affected by moisture. When selecting bus duct, pay attention to its protection grade. For different installation sites, bus ducts with different enclosure protection grades shall be selected.. Generally, the bus duct with protection grade of IP40 can be selected for indoor normal environment, and the bus duct with protection grade of IP54 or IP66 can be selected for fire sprinkler area.
 (4) The bus duct shall not be directly connected with the equipment with significant shaking and impact vibration, but shall be connected with soft joints.

Lasso, polygonal, Magnetic, Lasso. The Lasso tool offer 100% freedom selection to Magnetic lasso which tries to find edges itself based on contrast. It drops anchor points as it goes. The Polygonal, makes selection in straight lines only. 
Magic Wand, makes selection based off contrast and colour. It has 3 setting tolerance, contiguous and sample all layer. Contiguous checkbox will select any pixels on the canvas. A non contiguous magic wand is very similar to Colour Range selection. It is a quick method but better tools

Select subject, Photoshop tries and decides what the subject is, and tries to select it works really well, you can use other selection tool as well and refine edge tool
Object Selection: you draw a rectangle or free hand round an object and photoshop will try and select the subject.

Colour Range, you use the eyedropper tool to target a specific colour, you can add or subtract colour. You can adjust Fuzziness (Tolerance) you get a black and white preview white is selected. Very powerful tool.
Channels, using the Red, Green or Blue channel to make a selection. Black is not selected and white is selected. Eg selecting hair, find the channel that has the most contrast between hair and background. Duplicate that channel make levels to try and increase contrast. Command click to make a selection and invert selection.
Luminosity, making a selection based on how bright an area is. Going into the Channel and click on RGB to make a selection based on luminosity.

Modulation is a technique in which message signal is transmitted to the receiver with the help of carrier signal. Here in modulation, we combine both carrier signal and message signal. You may get the doubt that what is the need of modulation. Just imagine that you have a paper which contains the message and you would like to send it to your friend standing 40 feet from your place. You can’t just through the paper to your friend because paper will not travel that much distance but if you take small stone and cover the paper with it and through it to your friend, it will definitely reach the target. In the same way, we need a carrier signal to transmit our message. Sometimes, message signal is also called as modulating signal. The exact definition of modulation is given below:
“Modulation is a process of message signal and modulating is varied according to the carrier signal for transmission purpose. The message signal can vary in accordance to the carrier signal that is in terms of angular or amplitude. So we are modulating the signal.”

Advantages of Modulation:
With the help of modulation, we can increase the quality of reception.
We can also decrease the height of the antenna.
Avoid mixing of different frequency signals and increase the range of communication i.e. without modulation, we can transmit the message up to 100 meters and with modulation, we can transmit the message up to 150 meters.
Allow the flexibility for adjusting the bandwidth.
In the definition, we have seen that message signal can be varied according to the angular or amplitude of the carrier signal. What happens if message signal is varied in accordance to angular of carrier signal and what happens if message signal is varied according to the amplitude of carrier signal?
Angle Modulation:
In the angle modulation, again there are two different types of modulations.
Frequency modulation
Phase modulation.
Frequency Modulation:
The process of carrier signal frequency is varied according to the message signal or modulation signal frequency by keeping the amplitude constant is called frequency modulation.
Advantages of Frequency Modulation:
Frequency modulation has more noise resistivity when compared to other modulation techniques. That’s why they are mainly used in broadcasting and radio communications. And we are all well aware that radio communication use mainly frequency modulation for transmission. We know that noise will occur mainly to the amplitude of the signal. In frequency modulation, amplitude is made constant and only frequency is varied, so we can easily find out the noise in the amplitude by using a limiter.
The frequency modulation is having greater resistance to rapid signal strength variation, which we will use in FM radios even while we are travelling and frequency modulation is also mainly used in mobile communication purposes.
For transmitting messages in frequency modulation, it does not require special equipment like linear amplifiers or repeaters and transmission levels or higher when compared to other modulation techniques. It does not require any class C or B amplifiers for increasing the efficiency.
Transmission rate is good for frequency modulation when compared to other modulation that is frequency modulation can transmit around 1200 to 2400 bits per second.
Frequency modulation has a special effect called capture effect in which high frequency signal will capture the channel and discard the low frequency or weak signals from interference.
Disadvantages of Frequency Modulation:
In the transmission section, we don’t need any special equipment but in the reception, we need more complicated demodulators for demodulating the carrier signal from message or modulating signal.
Frequency modulation cannot be used to find out the speed and velocity of a moving object. Static interferences are more when compared to phase modulation. Outside interference is one of the biggest disadvantages in the frequency modulation. There may be mixing because of nearby radio stations, pagers, construction walkie-talkies etc.
To limit the bandwidth in the frequency modulation, we use some filter which will again introduce some distortions in the signal.
Transmitters and receiver should be in same channel and one free channel must be there between the systems.
Spectrum space is limit for the frequency modulation and careful controlling the deviation ration.
Applications of Frequency Modulation (FM):
Frequency modulation is used in radio’s which is very common in our daily life.
Frequency modulation is used in audio frequencies to synthesize sound.
For recording the video signals by VCR systems, frequency modulation is used for intermediate frequencies.
Used in applications of magnetic tape storage.
Phase Modulation:
In the phase modulation, we vary the carrier signal in accordance with the phase of the modulating signal or message signal by keeping the frequency constant. If the amplitude of message or modulating signal is huge then the phase shift will also be greater.
Advantages and Disadvantages of Phase Modulation:
The main advantage of phase modulation is that it has less interference from static, which is why we use this type of modulation in finding out the speed or velocity of a moving object. In frequency modulation, we cannot find out the velocity of moving object.
The main disadvantage is phase ambiguity comes if we increase the phase modulation index, and data loss is more and we need special equipment like frequency multiplier for increasing the phase modulation index.
Applications of Phase Modulation:
Phase modulation application is not different from frequency modulation. Phase modulation is also used in communication systems.
It may be used in binary phase shift keying.
Amplitude Modulation:
In the amplitude modulation, amplitude of carrier signal wave is varied in accordance with the modulating or message signal by keeping the phase and frequency of the signals constant. The carrier signal frequency would be greater than the modulating signal frequency. Amplitude modulation is first type of modulation used for transmitting messages for long distances by the mankind. The AM radio ranges in between 535 to 1705 kHz which is great. But when compared to frequency modulation, the Amplitude modulation is weak, but still it is used for transmitting messages. Bandwidth of amplitude modulation should be twice the frequency of modulating signal or message signal. If the modulating signal frequency is 10 kHz then the Amplitude modulation frequency should be around 20 kHz. In AM radio broadcasting, the modulating signal or message signal is 15 kHz. Hence the AM modulated signal which is used for broadcasting should be 30 kHz.
Advantages of Amplitude Modulation:
Because of amplitude modulation wavelength, AM signals can propagate longer distances.
For amplitude modulation, we use simple and low cost circuit; we don’t need any special equipment and complex circuits that are used in frequency modulation.
The Amplitude modulation receiver will be wider when compared to the FM receiver. Because, atmospheric propagation is good for amplitude modulated signals.
Bandwidths limit is also big advantage for Amplitude modulation, which doesn’t have in frequency modulation.
Transmitter and receiver are simple in Amplitude modulation. When we take a demodulation unit of AM receiver, it consists of RC filter and a diode which will demodulate the message signal or modulating signal from modulated AM signal, which is unlike in Frequency modulation.
Zero crossing in Amplitude modulation is equidistant.
Disadvantages of Amplitude Modulation:
Adding of noise for amplitude modulated signal will be more when compared to frequency modulated signals. Data loss is also more in amplitude modulation due to noise addition. Demodulators cannot reproduce the exact message signal or modulating signal due to noise.
More power is required during modulation because Amplitude modulated signal frequency should be double than modulating signal or message signal frequency. Due to this reason more power is required for amplitude modulation.
Sidebands are also transmitted during the transmission of carrier signal. More chances of getting different signal interfaces and adding of noise is more when compared to frequency modulation. Noise addition and signal interferences are less for frequency modulation. That is why Amplitude modulation is not used for broadcasting songs or music.
Applications of Amplitude Modulation:
Used to carry message signals in early telephone lines.
Used to transmit Morse code using radio and other communication systems.
Used in Navy and Aviation for communications as AM signals can travel longer distances.
Widely used in amateur radio.
All the above modulation will come under continuous wave modulation, where we will use a sine wave as carrier signal. Continuous wave modulation can be used in for both digital and analog communications.
When we take the pulse digital modulation, we use a periodic sequence of rectangular pulses as the carrier signal. Pulse digital modulation is also used in both analog and digital communications.
Types of Modulation:
In pulse width modulation, there are different types of modulation for analog and digital as shown below:
PCM: Pulse Code Modulation for Analog Modulation.
PPM: Pulse Position Modulation for Digital Modulation
PDM: Pulse Duration Modulation for Digital Modulation.

Pulse Code Modulation (PCM):
Pulse Code Modulation is first introduced by Alec Reeves in the year 1937. In the pulse code modulation, Analog Signal is reconstructed to digital signal for ease of transmission by using the analog signal samples. In technical terms, PCM will transmit the analog in a digital from, whose signal is sampled at regular intervals of time and quantized at same quantum levels to digital code. We know that digital code is nothing but binary code which consists of 1’s and 0’s that is logic1 and logic0. So we will transmit the digital data in the form of 1’s and 0’s. When the signal is received by the receiver, demodulator in the receiver will demodulate the binary signal back into pulses with same quantum levels like in modulator and these pulses are again used for regenerating the required analog signal.
Advantages of Pulse Code Modulation:
Pulse code modulation will have low noise addition and data loss is also very low.
We can repeat the exact transmitted signal at the receiver. This is called repeatability. And we can retransmit the signal with any distortion loss also.
Pulse code modulation is used in music play back CD’s and also used in DVD for data storing whose sampling rate is bit higher.
Pulse code modulation can be used in storing the data.
PCM can encode the data also.
Multiplexing of signals can also be done using pulse code modulation. Multiplexing is nothing for adding the different signals and transmitting the signal at same time.
Pulse code modulation requires large bandwidth
Pulse code modulation permits the use of pulse regeneration.
Disadvantages of Pulse Code Modulation:
Specialized circuitry is required for transmitting and also for quantizing the samples at same quantized levels. We can do encoding using pulse code modulation but we need to have complex and special circuitry.
Pulse code modulation receivers are cost effective when we compared to other modulation receivers.
Developing pulse code modulation is bit complicated and checking the transmission quality is also difficult and takes more time.
Large bandwidth is required for pulse code modulation when compared to bandwidth used by the normal analog signals to transmit message.
Channel bandwidth should be more for digital encoding.
PCM systems are complicated when compared to analog modulation methods and other systems.
Decoding also needs special equipment’s and they are also too complex.
Applications of Pulse Code Modulation (PCM):
Pulse code modulation is used in telecommunication systems, air traffic control systems etc.
Pulse code modulation is used in compressing the data that is why it is used in storing data in optical disks like DVD, CDs etc. PCM is even used in the database management systems.
Pulse code modulation is used in mobile phones, normal telephones etc.
Remote controlled cars, planes, trains use pulse code modulations.
Pulse Amplitude Modulation (PAM):
In pulse amplitude modulation, the amplitude of regular interval of periodic pulses or electromagnetic pulses is varied in proposition to the sample of modulating signal or message signal. This is an analog type of modulation. In the pulse amplitude modulation, the message signal is sampled at regular periodic or time intervals and this each sample is made proportional to the magnitude of the message signal. These sample pulses can be transmitted directly using wired media or we can use a carrier signal for transmitting through wireless. There are two types of sampling techniques for transmitting messages using pulse amplitude modulation, they are
FLAT TOP PAM: The amplitude of each pulse is directly proportional to instantaneous modulating signal amplitude at the time of pulse occurrence and then keeps the amplitude of the pulse for the rest of the half cycle.
Natural PAM: The amplitude of each pulse is directly proportional to the instantaneous modulating signal amplitude at the time of pulse occurrence and then follows the amplitude of the modulating signal for the rest of the half cycle.
Flat top PAM is the best for transmission because we can easily remove the noise and we can also easily recognize the noise. When we compare the difference between the flat top PAM and natural PAM, flat top PAM principle of sampling uses sample and hold circuit. In natural principle of sampling, noise interference is minimum. But in flat top PAM noise interference maximum. Flat top PAM and natural PAM are practical and sampling rate satisfies the sampling criteria.
There are two types of pulse amplitude modulation based on signal polarity
Single polarity pulse amplitude modulation
Double polarity pulse amplitude modulation
In single polarity pulse amplitude modulation, there is fixed level of DC bias added to the message signal or modulating signal, so the output of modulating signal is always positive. In the double polarity pulse amplitude modulation, the output of modulating signal will have both positive and negative ends.
Advantages of Pulse Amplitude Modulation (PAM):
It is the base for all digital modulation techniques and it is simple process for both modulation and demodulation technique.
No complex circuitry is required for both transmission and reception. Transmitter and receiver circuitry is simple and easy to construct.
PAM can generate other pulse modulation signals and can carry the message or information at same time.
Disadvantages of Pulse Amplitude Modulation (PAM):
Bandwidth should be large for transmitting the pulse amplitude modulation signal. Due to NY Quist criteria also high bandwidth is required.
The frequency varies according to the modulating signal or message signal. Due to these variations in the signal frequency, interferences will be there. So noise will be great. For PAM, noise immunity is less when compared to other modulation techniques. It is almost equal to amplitude modulation.
Pulse amplitude signal varies, so power required for transmission will be more, peak power is also, even at receiving more power is required to receive the pulse amplitude signal.
Applications of Pulse Amplitude Modulation (PAM):
It is mainly used in Ethernet which is type of computer network communication, we know that we can use Ethernet for connecting two systems and transfer data between the systems. Pulse amplitude modulation is used for Ethernet communications.
It is also used for photo biology which is a study of photosynthesis.
Used as electronic driver for LED lighting.
Used in many micro controllers for generating the control signals etc.
Pulse Position Modulation (PPM):
In the pulse position modulation, the position of each pulse in a signal by taking the reference signal is varied according to the sample value of message or modulating signal instantaneously. In the pulse position modulation, width and amplitude is kept constant. It is a technique that uses pulses of the same breath and height but is displaced in time from some base position according to the amplitude of the signal at the time of sampling. The position of the pulse is 1:1 which is propositional to the width of the pulse and also propositional to the instantaneous amplitude of sampled modulating signal. The position of pulse position modulation is easy when compared to other modulation. It requires pulse width generator and monostable multivibrator.
Pulse width generator is used for generating pulse width modulation signal which will help to trigger the monostable multivibrator, here trial edge of the PWM signal is used for triggering the monostable multivibrator. After triggering the monostable multivibrator, PWM signal is converted into pulse position modulation signal. For demodulation, it requires reference pulse generator, flip-flop and pulse width modulation demodulator.
Advantages of Pulse Position Modulation (PPM):
Pulse position modulation has low noise interference when compared to PAM because amplitude and width of the pulses are made constant during modulation.
Noise removal and separation is very easy in pulse position modulation.
Power usage is also very low when compared to other modulations due to constant pulse amplitude and width.
Disadvantages of Pulse Position Modulation (PPM):
The synchronization between transmitter and receiver is required, which is not possible for every time and we need dedicated channel for it.
Large bandwidth is required for transmission same as pulse amplitude modulation.

Applications of Pulse Position Modulation (PPM):
Used in non-coherent detection where a receiver does not need any Phase lock loop for tracking the phase of the carrier.
Used in radio frequency (RF) communication.
Also used in contactless smart card, high frequency, RFID (radio frequency ID) tags and etc.
Pulse Duration Modulation (PDM) or Pulse Width Modulation (PWM):
It is a type of analog modulation. In pulse width modulation or pulse duration modulation, the width of the pulse carrier is varied in accordance with the sample values of message signal or modulating signal or modulating voltage. In pulse width modulation, the amplitude is made constant and width of pulse and position of pulse is made proportional to the amplitude of the signal. We can vary the pulse width in three ways
By keeping the leading edge constant and vary the pulse width with respect to leading edge
By keeping the tailing constant.
By keeping the center of the pulse constant.
We can generate pulse width using different circuitry. In practical, we use 555 Timer which is the best way for generating the pulse width modulation signals. By configuring the 555 timer as monostable or astable multivibrator, we can generate the PWM signals. We can use PIC, 8051, AVR, ARM, etc. microcontrollers to generate the PWM signals. PWM signal generation has n number of ways. In demodulation, we need PWM detector and its related circuitry for demodulating the PWM signal.
Advantages of Pulse Width Modulation (PWM):
As like pulse position modulation, noise interference is less due to amplitude has been made constant.
Signal can be separated very easily at demodulation and noise can also be separated easily.
Synchronization between transmitter and receiver is not required unlike pulse position modulation.
Disadvantages of Pulse Width Modulation (PWM):
Power will be variable because of varying in width of pulse. Transmitter can handle the power even for maximum width of the pulse.
Bandwidth should be large to use in communication, should be huge even when compared to the pulse amplitude modulation.
Applications of Pulse Width Modulation (PWM):
PWM is used in telecommunication systems.
PWM can be used to control the amount of power delivered to a load without incurring the losses. So, this can be used in power delivering systems.
Audio effects and amplifications purposes also used.
PWM signals are used to control the speed of the robot by controlling the motors.
PWM is also used in robotics.
Embedded applications.
Analog and digital applications etc.

Corsair Carbide 678C Review: A Quiet Case with a Mission

I love running water-cooling loops as much as the next guy. It all starts with the right case. You almost always need to visualize the final product before actually starting your project. It hasn’t been easy to find the right case for me lately. With numerous case options, you can really have a difficult time picking the starting point. Corsair Carbide 678C is a mid-tower ATX case that has many possibilities in my opinion. Some of their signature cases which leave you speechless are Obsidian 1000D and of course, Carbide SPEC-OMEGA. The box is recycled friendly and only has black coloring for the imagery and lettering. But what Carbide 678C lacks in external packaging it compensates with internal packaging. The case comes packaged in between of two plastic foam inserts and wrapped with a plastic bag to protect from any accidental damage. The case itself is 28LB or 13Kg. The shipping company, which, I shall keep nameless, dropped it and damaged the shipping box. When I peeked inside and saw the case in a perfect shape I felt instantly better. There isn't much that comes with Carbide 678C. An instructional manual to the case and a small box with set of miscellaneous screws and about a dozen zip ties are all that is included. . Closer Look Corsair Carbide 678C Dimensions of Carbide 678C are 549mm x 239mm x 497mm or 21in x 9in x 20in. I have mentioned that the case is about 26Lb this is due to its steel construction and 5mm tempered glass door. Carbide 678C only has one glass side. The other side is solid without any ventilation holes. Most of the case is constructed from rolled steel but there are few areas where combination of plastic and aluminum is used. The front of the case is made from plastic/brushed aluminum. The bezel opens up like a door to get access to 3.5" enclosed space and air filter. The back of the case is pretty standard design. The power supply enclosure is positioned on the bottom of the case and does not have a removable face plate so the only way to mount the PSU is through the inside. Besides 8 PCI slots on the left there are two vertical PCI type slots if you wish to mount your GPU vertically. The top of the Carbide 678C has a removable sound dampening magnetic panel and also a magnetic plastic dust cover. This case is designed to be as quiet as possible in addition to be able customize it to your liking. The bottom of the case contains one plastic dust cover that could be removed by pulling it from the front. The entire case is supported by four plastic/rubber feet. The feet are about 20mm in diameter and provide excellent grip on flat surfaces. The tempered glass door is mounted on hinges. To stick glass door to the steel case Corsair uses a set of small glued magnets on the tempered glass. Both left and right panels of Carbide 678C could be easily removed. The tempered glass slides up from the hinges without an issue for a quick maintenance. The solid right panel has sound dampening sheet that covers the majority of inner surface. The front bezel of the Carbide 678C is made of brushed aluminum and the inner bezel is made from ABS plastic. The bezel door is hung by hinges and is not removable, unlike the side tempered glass door. If you have any accessories which require 5.25" slot this case actually comes with one empty 5.25" slot for your needs. If you don’t have any 5.25" devices that you want to use, you can just remove the 5.25" drive cage. The Carbide 678C skeleton is made from steel as well. The top back left corner of the case has 4 rivets while other corners have a set of 2 rivets. Internal default cabling is being passed through the center channel and secured by zip ties. Potentially you can follow the same cable management or get creative. There are six 3.5" slots and three 2.5" for your storage needs. The motherboard tray cutout is a pretty good size. Most of the ATX motherboards will have no problem in this case with CPU mounting and access to the back of the motherboard. Corsair included three fans (400-2000 RPM) which are whisper quiet under normal operation. And as I've tested them under a full speed only produce about 42dB. Fans or radiators could be used in this case in the front, back or even on the top. Removal of the pre-installed fans is as easy as removing the magnetic dust and sound dampening panel and unscrewing a few screws. The I/O panel is found on the top of case and offers Power and reset buttons in addition to a HDD LED, two USB 3.1, Gen 2 Type C port and Headphone/Microphone jacks. Power Supply:
There is no removable plate for installing PSU. Maximum length PSU is supported. (225mm but could fit extended PSUs if needed)
Video Card clearance:
There is 500mm of clearance before the reaching the front of the case if the HDD cage is removed. Suggested/Supported video card lenght 370mm.
CPU Tower coolers:
CPU heat-sink height clearance is about 170mm.(from motherboard to the glass) Large CPU backplate cutout.     Assembly of the components in to this case was pretty easy as the Carbide 678C has plenty of space to work around the tight spots. The area of concern in my build was the power supply. I am using a Cooler Master 1200 Gold power supply and it just barely fits into the power supply space but without any clearance space on the top. Fan set up and Radiator set up was a breeze as well. The entire fan system was attached to the PWM repeater and connected to the PWM controller on the motherboard. No issues with rear cabling but I wish there was more room on the back between the internal frame and the door.

Final Thoughts The Carbide 678C is a Mid-Tower (Black or White) case that demonstrates fine craftsmanship of Corsair products. The majority of this case is constructed from rolled steel sheet which in combination with tempered glass window bumps the net weight of about 28Lb This is a pretty heavy bare case. Once you start adding your radiators with pumps and power supply this weight will double and you are going to end up with a hefty case. Modding options for this case are very good as you should be able to mount up to a 360mm  radiator on the top of the case and place up to 150ml reservoir in the case with ease. Carbide 678C has space for a lot of storage (3 x 2.5" and 6 x 3.5" drives). Since a lot of the builders use M.2 drives the 3.5" enclosure could be removed from the system leaving an empty space for you to fill in with custom piping or a water pump. What I found odd is that after you remove the unwanted 3.5" enclosures you are left with these rectangular holes without any covers. Doesn't looks great if you ask me. When I was looking at the painted parts of the case, I found no issues of cracking or scratching of the paint. This is a very strong positive point in my opinion. You want a paint job to last years and when you find that case you were looking for and the paint job is "Meh" it could turn very disappointing.

But for what it is worth the case is gorgeous. Carbide 678C does not come with RGB controller however, the case would fit most RGB controllers on the market. Right now, the case is being sold for $ 199.99 USD but since it’s a new product it is difficult to find in stock at retailers at the time of this review.
