REBELS JEDI TEMPLE GUARD UPDATES / Challenging fun begins!!
Well well, I will not get my custom made boots I ordered from the boot maker, till after I get back from my trip to the con. I am going in 9 days time, what to do??? Make your own!
The above 7 photo’s detailing my rushed weekend alternative to having no custom made boots. I did not grumble too much.. Wink.. In fact I actually employed my costume design education into full use, after dusting the rust off my fingers and the how too drape - then make a pattern. ( Not so easy.)
Two days and two rug burned knees later, viola! This is what I have come up with, ( see photo’s above )
Still yet to finish them, I’m 3/4′s the way through, and feeling way more relaxed as ‘I will’ now have a pair of RJTG boots... Feeling smug.
Just another glitch in the matrix of my plans.
Now that I think about it, everything happens for a reason in the end and I have to say, I’m really enjoying the process!

SWTOR/Clone Wars SW OC - Rela'Vasani
template inspired by this:
BASIC DESCRIPTION
Full Name: Rela'Vasani
Nickname(s): Mute (by fellow Younglings), Rela Vasani
Alias(es): Shadow Alpha (Rebel codename), Darth Venator (verse dependent; pronounced “Ven-Ah-Ter”)
Age: 19-50+ (born on Denon in 3670 BBY/39 BBY; era dependent)
Era(s): The Old Republic OR Rise of the Empire/Rebellion
Species: Twi'lek
Gender: Cisgender Female (she/her)
Sexuality: Pansexual (Demiromantic)
Alignment: The Republic (Lawful Good)
Class: Jedi - changes study from Sage to Shadow
Languages: Galactic Basic, Twi'lek + Jedi omnilingual Force ability
APPEARANCE (FC is Rachi Sitra)
Rela is a female Twi'lek who stands at 5'7" (1.7 m). Her purple skin is patterned with white tapering lines. She has blue eyes. Like most of her species, Rela is naturally slender in build, but her Jedi training has toned her figure. After the explosion she survived, Rela has a hearing implant and some scarring on the left side of her face. As a Jedi, Rela wears beige robes. They have dark brown seams & the gaping sleeves stop just below her elbows to meet dark brown wrist guards. Her boots are dark brown as well & they come up to her knees. Thin dark brown bands decorate her twin lekku.
PERSONALITY
What her fellow Younglings called strange and antisocial, the elder Jedi praised as studious and dedicated. In a way, Rela is all of those things. Unlike most creatures, who regard the Force as a phenomenon or energy, she has always seen it as a friend who is generous if you ask for its help. She spent her childhood in the Temple talking to the Force. As a result, she developed the capacity to learn the less visibly impressive techniques of the Jedi quickly. Aside from that, Rela is a naturally intelligent person who enjoys knowledge. In her free time, she reads histories of various species, which makes her knowledgeable about many cultures and customs. When she interacts with others, she is always polite and open-minded. She is one of the Jedi who sees the clone troopers assigned to work with her as comrades rather than underlings. Her Jedi elders have noted that she can be indecisive regarding decisions that directly affect the happiness of other (non-hostile) creatures. They also disliked her relationship with her Master, which they believed (without evidence) bordered on romance.
BACKGROUND (each era is a different verse)
Rela is discovered by the Jedi when she is already three years old. Her parents only give her up because they are poor and want her to have a better life. Other kids at the Temple think she is weird, due to her habit of reading by herself on high ledges. When she is almost 13, Rela fears she won't be chosen as a Padawan, as she is almost too old to be an Initiate anymore. Maglos Nerot, a Miraluka, chooses her to be his Padawan & they become very close. On one mission, they race to stop a bombing & get caught in the explosion. He dies & she spends weeks in a bacta tank. Because she and her Master managed to save the people targeted, Rela is promoted to Knight once she wakes up. She is 20 at this point.
In the Old Republic Era, Rela simply continues to serve the Republic. She switches from studying to being a Sage to being a Shadow as the war worsens because she wants to take a more active role.
In the Rise of the Empire/Rebellion Era, she’s a freelance Jedi Shadow, helping where she can. In 19 BBY, she survives Order 66. It may be because she joins Sidious & Vader after a confrontation on Mustafar, where she takes the name Darth Venator. Otherwise, she hides out on Denon, where she finds her parents. Later, she moves to Nar Shaddaa, to work undercover as a dancer in a club. Once she hears about the rebels, she promotes herself to Master (this is in her late 30s) & helps the Alliance on missions. The Rebel Alliance ends in 4 ABY, when she's 43. She’s still helping people & investigating the beginnings of the First Order. The Mandalorian takes place in 9 ABY.
In the Legends timeline/verse, Rela awakens in 30 ABY, when the One Sith are founded on Korriban. This is because she was taken out of her bacta tank in 20 BBY to make room for someone determined to need it more. The doctors placed her in a cryo-cycle stasis pod, thinking they'd revive her a week later, but the pod ended up being misplaced.
SKILLS
(strengths)
Force Enlightenment - used to help her learn Force-based abilities; Rela's specific connection to the Force makes her proficient in this
History - her hours spent studying holocrons have informed her about ancient Force techniques & long-forgotten events
Farsight - this can be used for astral projection, detecting when allies are in danger, or predicting an enemy's next moves
(weaknesses)
Piloting - Rela gets anxious when piloting, so she asks the Force to guide her craft rather than manually flying it herself
Intimidation - she's brave, but she really doesn't like to be mean
Diplomacy - long conversations tend to be awkward for her
FIGHTING STYLE
Rela initially uses a single blue lightsaber, but after her Master dies, she adds his yellow lightsaber to her arsenal. Her connection with the Force enables her to learn dual-wielding fairly quickly. She mostly opts to retreat and attack as necessary, rather than open herself up to the possibility of being disarmed. When on the defensive, especially in close quarters, Rela uses slight movements to deflect blaster fire & melee attacks. She often uses a subtle Force push to tire her enemies out in duels.
HOBBIES
Reading - she absolutely loves learning new things
Meditation - it's extremely calming & almost "fun" for her
Animal Watching - they have a connection to the Force that Rela finds to be fascinating & unique

ROTBTFD Star Wars:  Wrath of Darkness chp 5
The Younglings
On a tropical planet in the Outer Rim filled with lush plant life sat a floating bronze city nestled between the mountains. This planet was the known as Punjam Hy Loo and was home to one of the Rebel Alliance’s staunchest allies and supporters, the Kinnaran people. The Kinnarans were avian humanoids, birdlike and adorned with feathers in a spectrum of colors. They were strong willed and large in spirit despite their small frames.
They had joined the Alliance after their queen, Toothiana, had been saved by its members. For a time the Alliance had placed their main base in their planet’s orbit. But they’d moved for the safety of their friends, despite the Queen’s insistence that her people knew and accepted the risks.
Despite this many of the Kinnaran people had enlisted, joining rebel cells as pilots, doctors, and engineers. Queen Tooth served on the Alliance High Command, the governing council of the Alliance. She now tended to stay on her home world to rule her people while maintaining he presence through consistent communications and holomeetings.
She’d also done their Jedi allies a favor by agreeing to take in and care for their younglings, the young children they’d managed to find for Jedi training. The younglings  were trained by the Kinnaran warriors who specialized in sword play, sharpening their bodies and minds while the Jedi periodically stopped in to to give them lessons regarding the Force and to view their progress. The Kinnarans’ contribution on the younglings’ training was so influential that it had forever changed the Jedi style. With the Kinnaran sword play leading to the development of new katas and techniques that blended well with the traditional Jedi forms.
Carved into a mountain near the Kinnaran capital city that shared the planet’s name was the Temple of the Sisters of Flight. A sacred place to the Kinnaran people where all their young eventually attended to undergo warrior training to learn the martial ways of their people. This was also where the younglings were housed and trained.
In the deeper parts of the temple a young woman with pale skin and white hair ran through a twisting and turning pathway, her senses on high alert for the unseen hazards all around her.
The girl wore a light grey tunic over a dark grey undertunic. She wore a light blue tabard held in place with a dark blue obi with a blue leather belt. Her forearms were adorned with dark grey arm guards. He wore pale leggings that matched her skin tone with a pair of grey and dark blue ankle length boots. Her face was framed by choppy bangs and her hair extended just past her elbows.
Her name was Emma. She was a Burgessian, a pale skinned human species from the planet Burgess. She was the first of the Jedi’s students and had spent the last couple of years in training alongside her classmates.
At the moment she was running through a maze beneath the Kinnaran temple. The maze was rigged with booby traps and hazards. All to test her skills and reflexes and strengthen her connection to the Force.
She suddenly skidded to a stop and jerked her head back as a shaft of wood lunged out in front her face. If she hadn’t pulled her head back she would’ve received a painful blow to the side of her skull. Then she twisted and spun as more jutted out from hidden holes in the walls. She dodged before managing to advance. She broke into a jog before breaking into a full sprint. All the while she ducked and weaved around the headless spears.
Then with a spring she began to flip and cartwheel down the hall. She dodged each and every one, the Force allowing her know where the next one would come out. She ended her acrobatics and switched to a normal run, pausing as she jerked back one last time and through a chop. Her hand broke through the shaft of one final headless spear. She snatched the long piece out of the air and kept running.
After a few meters she reached another length of rigged hallway. She heard small puff of air coming from the walls. She began spinning her polearm in her hands, using it to defend as a barrage of darts fired from the walls and at her as she went. She deflected every one that came at her before she cleared this trap as well.
She was near the end of the maze. She sprinted at full speed and saw the light at the end of the tunnel, the way out. Then the floor split open as a pit fall trap revealed itself. She yelped as she fell, gravity dragging her down. But she recovered quickly, the length of her staff to wedge into the gap of the pitfall. She stopped and the staff bent. She used the moment of her fall to spin around it to gain speed, doing a full turn before springing up to the ledge of the pit and landing in a crouch.
She rose up and ran before finally clearing the maze. She hunched over, hands on her knees and panting. She heard hands clapping and looked up to be met with a black feathered Kinnaran hovering toward her, carried aloft by fast beating wings.
“Excellent work Emma,” her teach, Thrush, said impressed.
“Thank you Master,” Emma said as she caught her breath and stood.
“That was your fastest time yet. But you’re still slower than Havo,” Thrush continued, referring to one of her classmates.
Immediately Emma’s face formed into a scowl. “How much slower?” she asked.
“Four seconds.”
The young girl’s mouth fell open. “Four seconds!? Are you serious!?” she cried in outrage. “Ugh. He’ll never let me live that down!”
Thrush laughed before consoling her and leading her back to training with the others. Meanwhile Emma’s peers were training throughout the temple. Her classmates were of varied species. But they got along for the most part. They’d all grown in their own ways, displaying different talents that their masters encouraged them to cultivate on their own.
There was the youngest, Nuna. She was a Pantoran child of 10 years old while the rest of her classmates ranged from 14 to 15 years of age. She had the blue skin her species was known for a lilac colored hair with golden yellow eyes. Her lilac hair was parted to the side, with the left side being tucked behind her ear and the other kept out of her face with a clip. She wore a long dark blue sleeved dress that extended to just above her knees and was secured by a red sash she tied around her waist. She wore white legging with boots that matched her dress and wielded a white bladed lightsaber that was tucked into the sash at her middle.
She had her eyes closed and her arms out in front of her. Surrounding her were a circle of stones that she was controlling, practicing her precision with moving many things with the Force. She waved her arms about and the stones moved in time with her movement. She made patterns like figure eights and circles while spinning on her heel, all while maintaining her focus.
Away from her another girl was practicing. She had red hair that she tied into a long single plait that that fell to her lower back. She  wore a far less traditional outfit that would be expected of a Jedi. She wore a tight black sheer top that left her shoulders and back bare. Over that she wore a cropped red tank top with a black skirt. She wore a criss crossing red belt with a turquoise buckle that matched her boots that went up to her shins. She wore black leggings and long grey gloves that covered the majority of her arms, stopping just beneath her shoulders.
Claire was a girl who’d come from Alderaan and her style was apparently the current in style fashion trend that was all the rage. She had a green hilted orange bladed lightsaber clipped to her belt that resembled a flower. She was practicing with a seeker droid, a small floating round droid that moved in random patterns and fired non lethal blaster bolts at unpredictable intervals.
The girl watched it closely as it circled around her. She waited hands slightly raised in preparation when it fired. She responded quickly, raising a hand and channeling the Force. The blaster bolts hit an invisible wall and dissipated before the droid moved to a new location and fired again. She did the same, throwing up her other hand and the bolts were blocked yet again. The girl had begun learning to erect barriers with the Force. It was skill she proved to be quite adept at and was eager to hone.
In another part of the temple two of the younglings were sparring. They were performing velocities, lightsaber drills practiced repeatedly at ever increasing speeds until one of them took a hit. They were two young males of different species. One was a Zabrak and the other a Sephi.
The Zabrak, Wrath, wielded a crossguard lightsaber with forest green blades. He was on the defensive, which for him was his forte. He wore a dark blue sleeveless tunic over a light blue sleeveless undertunic. He wore dark cloth wraps around his arm and a matching obi around his waist. Her wore dark pants with grey boots. As a Zabrak he had a crown of horns growing out of his head. In addition the boy had undergone his peoples’ right of passage that marked his ascent into adulthood. His face was adorned with black tattoos, symmetrical and jagged that gave him a fierce look.
Sparring with him was his close friend and fellow youngling Havolian. A Sephi. The young Jedi in training had the pointed ears his people were known for. He had white hair that was cut short and styled into a widow’s peak. At first glance it would appear the boy was swinging a blaster with a plasma blade coming out of it. But it was the clever design of his lightsaber. His lightsaber’s blade was a spring green and the hilt was curved, a style that emphasize dueling. Which was what the young man excelled at.
The Sephi wore a loose long sleeved olive green tunic over a dark brown long sleeved high collared undertunic. Over his tunic he wore a light brown tabard with a dark brown obi around his waist. He had dark brown pants with matching olive green boots. The young man was the best lightsaber duelist out of his comrades, displaying amazing form as he launched a quick series of attack that his friend met with a stalwart defense. They’d been going at it for several minutes straight without either of them taking a strike.
Alongside them was a more bestial youngling. A young Shistavanen male with brown fur. His people were a canid and wolf like sentient species and usually xenophobic, making him a rare sight to see alongside his classmates. The fur on his head was longer and spiked up like a mohawk. He wore a black vest with a black leather sash tied around his waist that held up his black pants. He wrapped his feet in strips of black cloth and wore a yellow spiked collar around his neck. He wore a pair of black fingerless gloves that allowed for free use of his claws.
He wore a bone encased lightsaber wrapped in leather with a sky blue blade that was secured to his belt. Unlike his friends he possessed a unique ability to sense things with the Force. His Force senses could be linked to his sense of smell, allowing him to essentially smell Force signatures like they were unique scents and odors.
In another area of the temple another youngling was training with their Kinnaran caretakers. She was perched on several rows and columns of high wooden pillars. She was moving from one to another, all the while the Kinnaran helping her practice were attacking her, swinging at her with wooden staffs. She ducked and dodged, twisting and bending her body as she sprung to another pole to dodge.
This female youngling was dark skinned with dark brown curly locks. She wielded a bronze colored lightsaber hilt with a sky blue blade. She was wearing tight blue sleevless crop top with a high collar that exposed her midriff. She wore shorts and a long kama that covered the front and back of her legs. She wore dark grey boots that went up to just below her knees. She wore a long orange sash that she tied several times around her waist and knotted in front of her.
The girl was very skilled connecting with animals. She seemed able to commune with and calm all but the most vicious of creatures. She also had a special connection to the jungle, something the people of her home planet shared when they were still alive.
In a chamber filled with pools two more non human youngling were practicing on their own. They stood on either side of a pool with their hands outstretched and eyes closed. Before them were floating orbs and streams of water. It was a new technique they were trying to develop. Which was proving difficult as water was ever shifting and harder to manipulate that solid objects with a defined shape and structure.
One was a young Mon Calamari male. He was a fish like humanoid who was orange with black and white spots, a rare coloration for his species. He wore a light blue under tunic and over it a navy blue tunic. He had a robotic right hand and wore white gloves over it and his normal three fingered one. He had a silver hilted lightsaber with a deep blue blade hanging from his belt. He wore dark pants with navy blue boots.
Across from was a female Gungan. She was a blue Otolla Gungan. She had a slender frame and a beak like mouth with large ear flaps. She didn’t tie hers back like most of the females of her species, which made her look tomboyish by her peoples’ standards. She wore a dark leather vest she kept buttoned over a strapless brown dress. She wore brown pants and no shoes. Her lightsaber hilt was fashioned out of a Gungan atlatl, a tool they used to hurl their boombas and had a purple blade.
The girl could leap higher and farther than any of her classmates given her kinds’ naturally strong legs. This extended to her kicks which were devastating, capable of shattering rock and stone. She was a great swimmer like Nemo and the two often swam the Kinnaran lakes together.
The younglings were the next generation of Jedi and had taken diligently to their teachings. They awaited the day when they too would defend the galaxy like their masters.
Until that day they would train and keep training.
*******************************************************************************************
At the floating Kinnaran city the Winter Spirit was set down on a landing platform at the city’s edge. Jack and Rapunzel got off while Euegene stayed on board so he could continue to try and reach his contact.
Rapunzel decided to go to Tooth’s palace to pay the queen a visit while Jack was eager to head to the temple to see his sister. They went their separate ways, agreeing to meet up at the temple later. Jack took a sail barge to the temple, smiling as it drew closer. He was looking forward to seeing his little sister. They were the only family each other had and she always greeted him with a big hug and a happy smile that always made his day.
He couldn’t wait for that hug.
*******************************************************************************************
“Alright children! Break time!” Thrush called out.
The younglings all stopped what they were doing and smiled. They began to run through the temple and converged into a single hallway.
Jack rounded a corner and stopped as the younglings began to run by him. He watched the procession before seeing his sister heading his way.
He smiled and stepped into her view with outstretched arms. “Hey! Baby sister! Big bro is-”
“Yeah hey Jack see you later!” Emma said as she ducked his arms and kept going, following behind her comrades. Jack blinked in shock and followed after her as she kept on going, not even bothering to look back.
Meanwhile the younglings navigated through the temple to head straight for an open entryway carved into the mountain side. Being capable of flight the Kinnarans mostly had entrances in the mountain face they could just fly right into. There were some paths for the more elderly Kinnarans to reach the lower levels but they were few.
In the past the younglings would use one of these paths, following down to the jungle floor. But not anymore. One by one they all leapt out of the temple to free fall toward the jungle floor below. One might think them mad, but of course they were no ordinary children.
They fell through the clouds as the wind whipped past their bodies and they felt the windchill. But they found it all exhilarating. It was a rush and one of the most exciting parts of their day. The tallest tress of the jungle drew nearer and nearer they spread their limbs to catch as the air and slow themselves down. They also began to focus their powers, ready to unleash it to soften the impact of their fall.
Some of them chose a more flashy way break their fall. Ella who was accustomed to jungles grabbed one of the large leaves at the top of a tall tree. The leaf bent and she let go, grabbing onto another beneath it and repeating the process as she descended.
One by one the younglings hit the jungle floor in soft landing before they began to run and gather into file. Havolian led the way. Followed by Emma and then Ella. Wrath followed behind the latter with Claire and then Wally coming up behind him. Then Nemo and Lan Wu fell into step with little Nuna bringing up the rear.
They ran through the jungle at incredible speeds, following the familiar trail they’d run time and time again nearly everyday since they'd begun their training as they made way to their hangout spot.
Finally they broke through a clearing to arrive at their lakeside resting spot and began to settle down to relax for their free time. All save Lan Wu and Nemo who dived right into the lake to go for a swim. They hit the water with two big splashes before surfacing and then laying back in the water to leisurely float as they paddled circles.
The younglings lounged about and talked. All while Emma stood at the edge of the look and began to fiddle with her hands as she geared up to practice something.
“Was that your brother Emma?” Clair asked her.
“Yep,” Emma answered simply as she rubbed her hands together. She cupped her hands over her mouth and blew into it. “C’mon. C’mon,” she said between breaths. She was feeling the temperature of her breath. Waiting until it was the right temperature.
The younglings watched knowingly. They were curious to see if she’d finally got it down. Finally with one last breath Emma could feel the chill. She smiled as she spied the faint mist wafting from her clasped hands.
She began to rub her hands together and focusing.
Then with a final breath she threw both her hands out. But nothing happened.
“I...don’t think that was it,” Claire commented with a wince.
“Yeah. Definitely not,” Emma agreed with a frown. She cupped her hands over her mouth and breathed into it, waiting for her warm breath to turn cold. After a few moments it had, and she tried again.
Once again...nothing happened.
“Ahhh. Kriff,” she swore aloud.
Claire gasped and she clapped her hands over Nuna’s ears. “Emma! Don’t swear in front of Nuna!”
Nuna’s face was neutral. “I know curse words,” she said flatly.
“Sorry,” Emma said, more for Claire than the Pantoran. “This technique is just so hard.”
“Well Elsa said it would be,” Havolian pointed out.
Emma was and had been attempting to replicate Elsa’s Force Ice techniques. But with little success. She’d asked Elsa how she did out of curiosity, and the knight had offhandedly explained how she did it before telling Emma she shouldn’t attempt it until she was a few more years into her Force training.
So of course, Emma decided to see if she could figure it out now.
Emma was hellbent on learning how to perform Elsa’s technique. She felt this would only further cement her place as the knight’s Padawan in the future. Though it was already more or less guaranteed and confirmed by Elsa herself.
So really it was more out of pride than anything else.
“Come on. I can do this,” she whispered to herself as she felt her breath once again. She took more time to prep, slowly breathing in and out and quieting her mind. She waited for the coldness of her breath. For the frosty mist to seep from her hands.
She felt and saw it and knew it was time. With a yell she threw both her hands out, feeling like this was it. This was her moment.
From her hands flew a single glittering blue snowflake. It drifted and danced through the air before falling to the surface of the lake and then melting into the water.
Everyone was quiet as the atmosphere grew awkward. They felt a little bad for the white hair girl. All that practice and this was the extent of it.
“Keep trying and you’ll eventually have an ice cube,” Havo quipped to break the silence.
“Shut up Havo!!!” Emma barked at the Sephi. The exchange earned a few chuckled from the group as Emma went to sit beside them with a deep frown.
With that, they settled back to relax.
“I think of of the Jedi is here,” Wally chimed in.
The group exchanged a glance as a silent message passed between them.
“So, we all still agree?” Emma asked. They all gave a nod to confirm that they were aligned.
“Ok. So we’ll bring it up with whoever is here,” Emma said her mind set on what was going to come.
*******************************************************************************************
Dread walked through the Imperial palace alone. He scowled to himself, is conversation with Drago fresh in his mind. Dread was wary of the Emperor's choice of allies, the Mandalorians and the Nightsisters. And when he'd voiced his concerns Drago dismissed them.
The Mandalore was a powerful ally, and at the same time a significant threat. He and his warriors were warmongers. Already beginning to conquer planets and acquire territory of their own. The Empire had left them to themselves, keeping in their graces by paying and hiring their services against the alliance.
Dread wasn't sure if Drago was unconcerned by the threat they posed or didn't believe they posed the significant threat Dread thought they did. But in the end it wasn't his place to question Drago.
As Dread walked to his quarters he passed by several Nightsisters. The witches smiled coyly at him, winking as they passed by. He noticed they were new, likely having just come from Dathomir to replace the ranks of their sisters who'd gone back home with child.
Dread continued on his way, walking the halls of the palace that was once the Jedi temple. Drago had converted the Jedi's sanctuary into a monument of the Sith's power and victory. As he went on his way he stopped. He turned his head to find yet another Nightsister sitting at a temple window, gazing out and over the city of Coruscant.
Heather.
Dread stared at her as she kept her gaze out over the illuminated city. She was different than her sisters. She was more powerful than any of the other witches. Apparently she was the right hand of their leader. She could easily defeat members of shadow guard. And even the Inquisitors, the Empire's most powerful collective of Force sensitives, stood no chance against her.
And the most obvious difference she had from her sisters was that she was not human, Dathomiri, or Zabrak. She had reddish skin and a natural, almost hypnotic, charm about her. Dread had his suspicions as to what species she was, but kept his opinions to himself.
Unlike the other witches she wore black instead of red. She had long black hair that she wore in a braid over her left shoulder. Her outfit consisted of long black boots that extended just up below her knees and black leggings that went up and stopped at her thighs, displaying the red skin of her thighs with a pair short black trunks. She wore a black top with a hood and cowl that concealed her face.
It annoyed Dread that she always kept her face concealed. She herself was a mystery.
"Beautiful. Isn't it?" she suddenly asked aloud.
Dread blinked, realizing he'd been staring at her. It irked him, how even he found himself enraptured by her without his knowledge.
She turned her attention from the city and to him. He could tell she was smirking at him. Her eyes twinkled with mirth. She crossed her legs and stared at him, awaiting an answer.
"Quite. The Empire's capital city is a sight to behold," Dread said evenly. He remained silent as he continued to stare at her, ensnared by her green eyes and noting how the light shining from the window bathed her in light. He almost wondered if she'd planned this beforehand.
"Something on your mind Dread?" she asked as she cocked her head to the side.
"Just wondering why I find you alone, Sister? Wouldn't you prefer the company of your clan?"
She chuckled. "I enjoy my solitude. Besides, most of my sisters find themselves in the company of Drago's dark side adepts," she explained with the shrug of a shoulder.
"And why not you?" She arched a brow in question. "I noticed how many of your sisters find themselves with child. Yet you-"
She narrowed her eyes at him. "I seek only the strongest male to be my mate."
"And the members of the Shadow Guard or the Imperial Inquisitors?"
"Those imitations of Sith?" she asked in disgust. "They're weak, unworthy of fathering my children."
"Oh?" Dread asked curiously. He smirked, standing at full height. "And me?"
"I am a Sith Lord. I am one of the most powerful beings in the galaxy. My strength in the dark side is second only to my master," he pointed out. "Do I not meet your standards?"
Heather hummed as she uncrossed her legs and stood up. She took a step toward, slowly, holding his gaze all the while. She raised her hands up and placed her palms on the front of his chest armor. Even with the layers between them Dread had to suppress a shudder.
He stared down at her as she traced her palms over his armor. He could feel his pulse quicken as she asserted her charm over him. And try as he might, he couldn't get away.
"Well," she said as she rose up slightly on her tip toes, hovering just a few inches away from his face. "I just don't like you."
And just like that she took a step back. Dread scowled at her while she only smiled in amusement. "If you are in need of female companionship, my sisters will be more than happy to share your bed with you."
With that she walked around him and went on her way.
"How will you know when you've found him? This worthy male?" Dread asked as he stared after her, glaring at her back.
Heather stopped, not turning around as she answered him.
"He will defeat me."
******************************************************************************************
Jack walked the halls of the Kinnaran temple and to his sister's room, wondering why she'd run out after training so suddenly. The girl had been acting...different. She was moody, more withdrawn, and less openly affectionate with him. He used to remember the times when she'd run to him with a happy smile and throw her arms around him in joy. Now he could sometimes barely get a nod to acknowledge that he was there. Elsa assured him that she was simply growing up, maturing into a beautiful and independent young woman. Who, as a maturing adult, simply didn't need her older brother around watching her all the time.
The very thought made Jack shudder.
As he turned down the hall where Emma's room was he nearly ran into someone. He took a step back and glanced down at a different youngling. A young red headed human girl he recognized as Emma's closest friend, Claire. She stood before him, arms crossed behind her back and smiling up at him.
"Hello Jack, whatcha' you doing?" she asked casually.
"Hey Claire. Just going to see my sister," Jack answered as he shuffled to the side to walk by her, only to be halted as she quickly stepped in front of him.
"Oh she's busy right now. I can tell her you stopped by and she can call you later," Claire offered.
"If it's all the same I'd rather speak to her now," Jack replied simply as he stepped to the right, only to have Claire copy him. He narrowed his eyes in suspicion. "Ok Claire, what's going on?" Jack asked as he crossed his arms over his chest.
"Going on? Nothing is going on. Emma is just really busy and would rather not be disturbed," Claire answered.
"Yeah, well I'm her big brother. So I'm going to go see her," Jack answered. He tensed, quickly moving side to side in an attempt to get by the youngling. But her Jedi training and reflexes made her fast and able to predict where he'd move next before he even did it.
Her determination to stop him only made him more curious as to what Emma was doing.
"Hey Claire is that a zit?" Jack asked out of the blue as he pointed at her face.
The young girl gasped, hands flying up to feel her face. "Where?" Using her distraction Jack quickly spun by her before proceeding towards Emma's room. Jack paused outside when he found a large slap of stone partially blocking the entry, he peeked inside to see what his sister was up to.
He found her sitting on a cushion with a small holoprojector in front of her. The thing was displaying a person right before her. He stared at what appeared to be the hologram of a young boy around her age.
"I wish you were here," Emma said wistfully as she hugged herself, smiling at the hologram.
"I know. I wish I could be there too," the boy's hologram said back. Jack suppressed a gasp, staring in shock and horror as Emma blushed and brushed some strands of white hair out of her eyes.
Jack's mind didn't want to believe what he was seeing. But there was no other explanation.
Emma had a boyfriend!
"How's the fleet?" Emma asked curiously.
The boy shrugged. "We're good. Fighting the Empire where we can, saving lives and all of that," the boy answered casually.
"My Hiro," Emma said with a smitten sigh. Jack gagged as he stared, feeling a flaming pit of brotherly protectiveness flare up within him. He reached his hands out and grabbed at the edge of the slab before he started to pull with all his might. But even with his full strength the slab barely gave an inch.
"I wish I could fight out in the galaxy like you do. The only missions the Jedi ever take us on are ones with pretty much no danger."
"Don't be mad, but I'm kind of glad for that. I like the thought of you safe."
"Awww," Emma gushed at his concern for her well-being. "I hope I get to see you again Hiro."
"Me too Emma."
Jack paused, taking shallow and quiet breaths outside the door after failing to budge the slab. He peeked inside, only for his eyes to bulge at the sight of Emma leaning in with eyes closed, like she were about to kiss the hologram.
This would not stand!
"Emma you stop that!" Jack cried as he made his presence known.
Emma gasped as she and the boy's hologram looked to the door. Emma's face burned in embarrassment. "Jack!?" she shrieked in indignation.
"That's right! Me!" Jack said as he tried to squeeze through the crack and into her room. He strained, pushing against the door to get a few more inches of space as Emma shouted at him to stop and get out. "Damn this thing is heavy," Jack muttered as he slowly but surely wiggled his way through and into the room.
He fell inside ungracefully before leaping to his feet and stalking to tower over the boy's hologram.
"Who are you?" he demanded of the boy.
"Uhh..." the boy said as his hologram looked up with wide eyes.
"Jack!" Emma shouted as she stood in front of him and shoved him back. "This," she said as she gestured back to the boy. "Is Hiro. My boyfriend."
"Like hell he is," Jack growled. He peeked over her and at the boy. "Who the heck are you? And what are your intentions with my sister?" he demanded.
"I'm going to go Emma," the hologram said quickly. "Bye," the boy said before the transmission ended.
"No!" Emma cried angrily as she stared at the space where his hologram had been. She whirled around angrily to scowl up at her big brother. "Nice going Jack. Do you know how often we get to talk?"
"How long has this been going on?"
"I don't know. A few months."
"And you're what, actually dating this...Hello?"
Emma narrowed her eyes at him. "His name is Hiro, and yes. He's my boyfriend."
"Oh no he is not. You do not get to have a boyfriend."
"You can't tell me what to do!"
"Big brother," Jack said as he jerked two thumbs toward himself. "Little sister," Jack said as he gestured at her. "I think I can."
"What do you care? We're in a long distance relationship anyway. Like, lightyears away, long distance," Emma said with a note of bitterness.
"You're not in any relationship with him. Long distance or otherwise. My baby sister does not need to have a boyfriend."
Emma turned a red in anger. "I'M NOT A BABY!" she shouted at him. "My hair is completely white," she said as she pointed to her snow white locks, which by their people's standards indicated sexual maturity. "And I have-"
Jack slapped his hand over his ears as her hands came up to gesture at the budding lumps on her chest. "LALALALALALALALALALALALALALALALALAL! LALALALALALALA! I CAN'T HEAR YOU!" Jack sang to drown out the dreaded word he believed had absolutely no business associating itself with his baby sister.
"Boobs Jack! I have breasts!" Emma shouted at the top of her lungs.
"AHHHHHHH!" Jack cried, ears bleeding, after hearing the awful word despite his attempts to drown her out.
"Get out of my room Jack!" Emma shouted as she shoved him back towards the door. She paused, raising a hand and concentrating, with some effort she used the Force to drag the slab out of the way to make the exit bigger. Then she thrust her hand toward Jack.
She used the Force to shove him out, not enough to send him flying out of the room but to make him stagger out of it and fall onto his backside. He gaped at her, almost in disbelief she'd used the Force on him. With one final glare she waved her hand, dragging the slab back into place to completely seal herself into the room.
Jack sat there for a moment in shock. Then he picked himself up and dusted himself off. He stared at the slab, wondering where the time had went. He tried to think back, searching his memory for the time when he blinked and she was no longer a little girl who would cling to him whenever she saw him.
"I told you."
Jack turned his head to see Claire, staring at him in disapproval. She had the nerve to shake her head before turning on her heel and walking away. Jack stood there, before looking back to Emma's room. He let out a breath and bowed his head.
"Teenagers."

My Little Rebel - Inquisitor!Cal Kestis x Female Rebel!Reader | Part 8
Summary: After reuniting with the force and discovering your past as a Padawan, you join Cere and Greez, and Merrin in hopes to restore the Jedi order.
Warnings: violence
Tumblr media
You woke from your meditation hours after, eyes stinging from the sudden light pouring into your room. Never in your life had your body felt so relaxed, so comfortable and at ease. You can’t remember the last time you didn’t have a back ache or a sore neck. It felt nice.
You walked into the main hanger of the ship and yawned, stretching your arms out and covering your mouth as you approached the holotable located in the centre. You looked over to your right and noticed a young woman with stone grey skin and silver hair, her eyes were dark and she had unmistakable markings on her face. You couldn’t believe your eyes, that was a Nightsister.
You remember your time at the Jedi temple, your master spoke a lot of nightsisters and warned you about them, calling them witches and trouble makers. You had never met a Nightsister before so you didn’t have a personal opinion of them.
The Nightsister spotted you at the table, didn’t flinch or jolt at your sudden appearance. She kept a respectful stare on you and it seemed that she wasn’t causing any trouble, she didn’t seem that intimidating either. You wanted to speak to her, but you were aware about the situation with the Nightsisters. She might as well be the last of her kind, you doubt she’d want to trust anyone or speak to anyone after what happened on Dathomir.
But still, you decided to sit at the other side of the couch and sat with your elbows on your knees, hands clasped as you looked up at the holotable and spectated all the planets that were available to go to. The Nightsister turned her head to look at you, her eyes neither judgmental or wary, she simply just looked and sighed as though she was underwhelmed by something. You paid no mind to it and continued to look at all the planets until Cere appeared from the cockpit and smiled warmly at you.
“How did it go?” Her voice was eager and excited, standing in front of you a few paces away from you and crossing her arms over her chest as she awaited your answer. You smiled, tucking a strand of hair behind your ear.
“It went great, Cere, I saw Shaak, she was there” You rejoyced in a calm yet happy voice, earning a bright grin from Cere who was more than happy for you.
“That’s wonderful” She gave you a loose hug and patted your back, her heart was filled with warmth at your rediscovery and she felt as though she finally accomplished something useful, something meaningful.
“Sorry for being so abrupt, but is there a shower I can use around here? I stink of oil” You laughed, sniffing the sleeve of your mucky shirt and pulling a disgusted, scrunched up face. Cere chuckled, pointing you to the hallway you just came out from and directing you to the showers.
“Straight on and on your left, next to your room” She said, smiling as you thanked her and quickly rushed off to get a shower.
Merrin stood up from her chair, walking towards Cere whilst watching you scurry away.
“I’m not sure she’s the right person for this” The Nightsister whispered, leaning close to Cere so neither you or Greez knew what they were speaking of.
“She is, I’m certain of it” Cere insisted, nervously fiddling with her necklace and pursing her lips at the kick of hope within the Nightsister.
“What is she ends up like Cal?” Merrin had to ask, her friend had been taken by darkness and she didn’t want the same happening to you even though she hardly knew you. Cere’s head snapped in Merrin’s direction and for a second she didn’t know how to reply. The mentioning of their old friends name caused a stir within Cere and her heart collapsed remembering him.
“She’s strong, she’s older than him as well... her master was a wise woman, I doubt (Y/N) would want to face her disappointment” Was Cere’s answer, earning a sharp eye roll from Merrin who returned to her seat and folded her arms over her chest.
“You said the same thing about Cal” Merrin grumbled, tears of frustration filled her dark eyes and Cere felt guilty for a moment, watching as Merrin wiped her eyes and sniffed.
“What if he gets her? What will happen then?” She continued, but that was the last of her pushing questions. Merrin stood up and stormed to her room, leaving Cere alone in the main hanger of the ship to think about the conversation they just had, maybe Merrin had a point.
Cere never forgot the say she lost Cal to Trilla, her old Padawan. She’ll never forget the feeling of horror when she saw Cal in that black and red uniform. She was too late to save him from the dark side, but she wasn’t going to let that same mistake happen to you. Even if Cal was after you, you were proven to be stronger than him, in many ways that you didn’t realise just yet. Cere had to let you meditate again, she needed to let you see more of your past and discover more powers you forgot about. You were her last hope, you were all she had left.
-
Getting into the showers, you threw your towel over the door handle and made sure it was locked before grabbing the handle and twisting it. It squeaked in an almost deafening high pitch as cold icy water came out of the shower head, giving a great shock to your toes which where in the wet zone of the shower cubicle.
There was only one in the ship, it was fairly spacious and it had the necessities for cleaning and getting the dirt off you.
The sound of water hitting the ground echoed around the shower cubicle and it mushed together with your busy thoughts. You got your head under the shower and gasped at the bitter cold of the water, your body tensing and goosebumps raising as a response. It felt good though, you can’t remember the last time you had a shower.
You held your head underneath the shower for a few minutes, letting the water deep through just to be sure you were going to clean it correctly. You grabbed the shampoo bottle closest to you and squirted it into your hand, rubbing it together before smearing it all over your scalp and massaging it into your hair. You felt euphoria as you felt all the mud and rain leave your hair, brushing your fingers through tangled bits of hair and winding as you accidentally pulled some strands out.
After rinsing out your hair, you scrubbed your face with your hands and scrubbed your body with soap will it was sore. You had to be 100% certain you were clean, you wouldn’t leave the cubicle unless you were absolutely positive.
You weren’t sure how long you were in the shower for, probably under an hour at most. You turned the faucet off and wrapped your body in the towel on the door handle. You rubbed your hair until it was no longer dripping with water before creeping out of the cubicle and scurrying to your room, only to realise you had no fresh clothes.
You looked around your room, through the drawers of the cabinet in hopes something would’ve there. Nothing. Damnit. You flushed a furious red as you chewed your nails, other hand holding the towel wrapped around your body.
A light knock behind you caught your attention and you turned around to see who it was. To your surprise, it was the Nightsister. In her hands she held a pair of fresh clothes that appeared to be hers. A red tunic and a black long sleeved shirt, black leggings and red boots.
“It’s not much, but it’ll do” She spoke to, catching you off guard with her thick Dathomirian accent but you found it unique.
“Thank you” You smiled, using one hand to take the neatly folded pile of clothes from her arms all whilst holding your towel on. The Nightsister bowed her head respectfully and returned the smile.
“I’m Merrin” She blurted out, fiddling with her hands behind her back as she tried to smile without feeling awkward or embarrassed. Your smile only widened and you bowed your head back.
“I’m (Y/N)” You said, watching as the Nightsister nodded her head to you once again before turning around and closing the door, leaving you in peace to get changed and into more comfortable attire.
-
You weren’t sure what time it was, possibly around 3 in the morning. You’d lost track of time a long time ago on Bracca and at this point your body was malfunctioning and lost its rhythm of sleep. You slept a solid 2 hours since you arrived on the Mantis, mostly because you couldn’t get to sleep with all the thoughts running wild in your head. So you decided to stay up and join Cere on the couches. You fit well in Merrin’s clothes, thankfully you and her were similar sizes.
“Alright people, we’re in coming to Kashyyyk, saddle yourselves up” Greez called from the cockpit, alerting you and Cere and interrupting your conversation. Merrin emerged from her room, clearly practicing her witchcraft, and strapped herself in to the seat behind you in the cockpit.
You remembered the last time you were in Kashyyyk, it felt like years ago. Your eyes widened as they fixated on the familiar vibrant greens and blues of the Wookie dominated planet, heart thumping in your chest as if the occurances that happened months ago would happen all over again. You couldn’t afford that, neither could Cal.
“Are you alright? You seem a bit tense” Cere asked curiously, turning her head to look at you as her eyes held reassurance and serenity. You nodded your head, your lips in a thin line as you struggled to keep the memory of you and Cal meeting at bay.
There was a strange surge in your stomach, something felt wrong as the Mantis aoproached the landing bay at the hidden Rebel base. Cere was worried, she could feel how uneasy you were. She wanted to ask more but it had to wait for later.
As soon as Greez landed, you unfastened your seatbelt and bolted to your room, fetching your lightsaber before returning to the middle of the ship, meeting Cere and Merrin half way. The two women stared at you with wide eyes as you walked out bravely on the open ramp and scanned the area. You ignited your lightsaber, the feeling in your stomach grew stronger as your feet touched the green grass of the planet and the wind swirled around you.
“Stay inside” You called to Cere, walking forward to investigate the area. Cere wasn’t sure whether to follow you or let you do your thing, she could feel how on edge you were and by the looks of it Merrin could as well.
“Should we listen to her?” The Nightsister turned to Cere with questionable eyes, looking back and forth at you two until Cere shook her head and pointed to you as you finally came to a stand still and closed your eyes.
There was a faint noise in the distance, it sounded heavy. Mechanical feet stomping on the grass and nearby as you slowly crept back. Your predictions were true, the Empire was here.
“Are there any rebels here?” You asked, running back to the ship with urgency and desperation in your voice. Cere nodded and pointed to the entrance to the base which was a small secluded door that was extremely hard to see. Quickly, you thanked her and ran to the door.
“The Empire are here, we need to evacuate the area” You yelled over your shoulder, sprinting to the entrance and slamming your fist onto the brass door which was concealed by leaves and dirt.
You heart footsteps behind the door, lots of them, and the door opened to reveal a man with heavy war armour and ran skin, a bald head and dark eyes.
“Who are you?” He asked sternly, eyes narrowed and fixated on you as you raised your hands up to prove you weren’t here to cause any harm.
“I’m (Y/N), listen, I know you don’t know me but I spotted an AT-ST nearby. You need to evacuate now” You were straight to the point, earning a gasp from the man in front of you before he looked behind you to see the Mantis and Cere who was standing, waving on the ramp to signal they had ally’s.
“Are you a Jedi?” The man asked, and for a moment you felt your heart leap.
“Yes” You answered, feeling an overwhelming amount of adrenaline pumping through your blood as you confirmed who you were. The man tinged a smile, moving to the side to let you in and share the evac info to the rebels within the base. There was a lot of them, you could already feel that this was going to be a long operation.
It took a while to get everyone’s attention and spread the word that the Empire had arrived on Kashyyyk, a few rebels cried, others were determined to fight. It was a disasterous heap of nerves and emotions.
You learned the man in the war armour’s name was Saw Garrera, he was a freedom fighter and a rebel like the rest of the people there, but you can’t remember seeing him during your time as a rebel. You introduced yourself and helped him prepare for evacuation. Many other rebels prepared for war.
You wanted to fight, I mean, you had a lightsaber now, and the force! You’ve meditated a few times already before you landed on Kashyyyk and you remember so many tricks and skills up your sleeve that could be very useful in situations such as facing the Empire in battle, especially for that.
“We’ll evacuate those who do not want to fight, if you aren’t evacuating, please follow (Y/N) and help the others onto the transports” Saw yelled over the loud commotion within the Rebel crowd. All of them nodded and only moved faster at this, running and skidding around the underground hide out.
“Saw” You grabbed the commanders attention quickly so you could try and wrap your head around with what’s going on.
“What if there’s an Inquisitor?” You asked.
“Then that’s for you to handle” Was his reply, sharp and it caused you to mutter a cursive under your breath. You were the one with the lightsaber after all, don’t get all weak now (Y/N). You thought to yourself.
There wasn’t much time to doddle about and daydream, you helped board the transports and there was one left behind for those who were fighting. Saw Garerra stayed behind and decided to fight with you, his faith in this fight was sky high and it was clear he expected much from you.
Once the transports were off, you and 20 other rebels were left behind, loading guns and checking ammo. You inspected many blasters and snipers to check that they were stable enough to use, polishing the pipes and making sure the triggers weren’t stiff. Next to you was a young girl, she was polishing rifles and rubbing her nose on the sleeve of her khaki jacket. You glanced at her for a few seconds, realising she was far too young to be involved in a fight such as this but you decided to stay quiet in case she took it personal.
You spoke with a few other rebels stationed nearby, some that were suiting up and others who were checking the cameras outside to see if the enemy was near.
“We’ve got an AT-ST south exit” One rebel reported, it implied to whoever was working beside them and by the looks of it things were getting hectic outside.
You looked back to the blaster in your hands, noticing it had a small rebel sign carved onto its side. You looked around and snuck the rifle onto your belt, just to be sure you had the right weapons and a backup if your saber went missing. Everyone around you finalised their equipment and approached the door with confidence, yet you could feel the pressure surrounding them. This wasn’t their first fight but they feared it would be their last.
You walked up to the front since the rebels moved to make a line for you, watching intently as you ignited your lights saber, illuminating everyone’s face and even making some of the rebels gasp. It was clear some of them had never seen a lightsaber before, or met a Jedi. You smiled at their curiosity before kicking the door open with as much strength as you could muster, immediately sprinting outside to the scorching sun of Kashyyyk and immediately hearing blaster shots in the distance.
The rebels followed you, yelling and chanting with rage and anger towards the Stormtroopers ahead.
“Go! I’ll take care of the AT-ST!” You yelled to all of them, running to the side and letting the Rebels take the lead as you sprinted to the south exit where the mini Walker stalked the grounds.
You crept up onto a nearby slope, spying on the AT-ST that trampled over the greenery and nature of the planet, it hurt your heart to see how much destruction it caused.
Just as you were bout to strike and jump onto its head, you were met with a flashback, an unlocked memory.
“Concentrate (Y/N), enemy vehicles are always hard to take down but you need to make it quick and swift” Wolffe’s voice echoed in your mind and slowly, the force filled your body and you remembered your training, another missing piece that was useful in situations such as this.
You sprinted towards the Walker and pounced on it within seconds, grabbing onto the head with one hand and using the other to cut into the inside and grab whoever was steering it. The Walker started spinning in circles, as if the person inside was trying to find you and see what was happening. Your saber cut through the top like butter as soon enough, you were let face to face with an Imp who’s eyes were blown open with fear and shock. Pulling him out, you threw him to the ground and knocked him out immediately, you didn’t want any blood on your hands just yet.
Getting into the Walker, you looked at the controls cluelessly, there were so many. The rebel inside You was itching to steer it and use it on the stormtroopers, but the Jedi in you wanted to hand it over to someone else so you could focus on what was really important. Conflicted, you decided to push a few buttons and see what the Walker did. It steered around and you were thrown to the side, face slamming against the wall and causing you to groan out in pain.
“Okay... maybe not” You told yourself, avoiding the button you just pushed and instead going for the steering wheel. You had no clue what you were doing, you just went with your gut instinct and steered it towards the fight. It felt so heavy, the feet practically slammed against the earth and made you tumble inside it with every step it took. You grumbled in frustration, trying to keep yourself in place as you trampled over forest territory and towards the fighting and the sound of blaster shots.
Before you knew it, a few rebels began shooting at you, thinking it was still in Imperial hands. You were quick to stand up, ducking as a blaster shot missed you by a hair. “It’s me!” You exclaimed, waving your arms for the rebels to see and feeling relief as they lowered their blasters and apologised to you profusely.
“Sorry about that, Jedi!” A young rebel girl yelled up to you, her hand cupping the side of her mouth so her voice could echo. You waved her off and shrugged, hands pressed on the edge of the walkers head and looking out to the land of Kashyyyk. You had such a better view up on the Walker, you could see the fight from where you were located and witnessed a flurry of red blaster shots and flames. Your instinct was to get there as quickly as possible.
“Someone take this, i gotta go!” You exclaimed, grabbing your saber and jumping out of the Walker with clumsiness before sprinting past the rebels and towards the battlefield.
You ignited your lightsaber as you approached the field of scrambled Rebels and stormtroopers. You jumped right into the mix and ran to the middle of the battle, raising your saber and concentrating on blocking the blaster shots and deflecting them so they could return to the person who shot them and hopefully hit them as a result. The Rebels around you were relieved now that you were here, helping them out with everything you had and putting your all into the fight. This was the first time you’d fight as a Jedi, adrenaline flowed through you but so did the Force, controlling your every move and helping you balance and get rid of the anxiety you had moments before. The force was helpful when it came to deflecting shots and charging at stormtroopers, lightsaber gripped tightly in your hand as you struck them down one by one.
You let it guide you through battle and dodging enemy attacks effortlessly, cutting through the piles of white armour and securing the area as though it was an easy task. Your heart wrenched as a few Rebels were taken down, crying out for them as you went for their killer with your lightsaber, no hesitance in taking their life quicker than they took the rebels.
The stormtroopers were reluctant attacking you as they watched you take down so many enemies, so many bodies of white and black that hit the ground faster than you could say ‘Bantha’. They eventually called a retreat but you weren’t finished yet, you kept going after them along side the other rebels who certainly weren’t finished with them either. Angry cries left their lips as they shot down the remainder of the troop, bodies falling and eventually coming to a halt when none of them were standing.
A sudden silence erupted amongst the group of rebels behind you, no one spoke a word as a strange sound ripples through the sky above. Your heart sank to the pit of your stomach, you felt like your throat was about to dry up and you’d suffocate on your own breath. The very distant echo of a Tie howled above you and the rebels, their first instinct was to immediately run and get to the transport as soon as possible. You turned around and looked up behind the rebels, head tilted slightly as your eyes met a Tie fighter charging right towards your location, practically the size of your fingertip but slowly getting closer and closer.
“We have to go! The Inquisutor is coming” The young rebel from earlier called out, tugging on your arm desperately to get your attention in hopes you’d come with her and board the transport.
“No” You replied, voice firm and sure of what you were about to do.
“Are you sure? You’ll be killed!” She argued.
“Someone has to stay behind to distract them, you go ahead and board the ship, we’ll see each other again. Please, can you tell my crew I might be a while?” You pressed a reassuring arm on her shoulder and looked up to meet her scared eyes, eyes that only recently witnessed the death of her friends.
The girl had no other option but to nod and listen to your command, tears welling up in her blue eyes as she sniffed and wiped her nose with the sleeve of her grubby clothes.
“Please be careful” She whimpered, patting your shoulder a few times before running off into the trees to reunite with her comrades and board the transport that awaited them.
You smiled as you watched her disappear, but the smile was short lived when the tie from earlier was right behind you and was currently landing, the leaves and grass around you blowing away in every direction which caused your hair to whip in your face. You didn’t dare turn around, scared to see whoever it was as you quickly blocked off your force aura and made sure the Inquisitor didn’t recognise who you were. The ship soon came to a halt and you heard the hatch open up, the clear footsteps of an Inquisitor landing on the ground as they jumped down from the ship.
You tensed, unable to recognise who it was but you still didn’t turn around, you kept your head high and fought back the fear as you awaited their move.
“So... you’re the Jedi I’ve heard so much about”.
Your heart stopped and you felt like you were going to throw up at the least, a horrific churning stirred in your stomach as you recognised the voice of Cal Kestis standing right behind you.
You realised now how late you were at explaining yourself, your lightsaber out, ignited and on full show as your back faced the man you loved with every bone in your body. You fought back tears now, biting your lip and hoping he wouldn’t so much as hate you when he realised who it was standing in front of him.
“Is someone shy? Uncommon for filth like you” He continued, you felt a sting in your heart as he spoke his words of disgust. You weren’t used to this Cal, you didn’t like it. Not one bit. But overtime you started to realise that this was really who he was, this was his job, his lifestyle. He was now your hunter, and you were his pray.
Sucking in a breath, you swallowed your fear and turned your head slightly, unable to see anything but his feet. Slowly but surely, you turned around and you were finally face to face with Cal. He wasn’t wearing his helmet which meant you could see every bit of shock break out of his face when he realised it was you. His golden eyes snapped open and he took an almost offended step back, his lightsaber already ignited before he realised it was you and his other hand balled into a fist.
“What-“ He blinked a couple of times just to check he was seeing correctly, lips quivering and heart racing in his chest.
“When did this happen” His voice wasn’t friendly, full of demand and frustration as he gritted his teeth and his hand clenched around the hilt of his lightsaber. You tensed at his sudden change of emotion and took a cautious step back, lightsaber slowly readying in case he had any ideas as he stood meters away from you.
“Yesterday, I already feel so welcome” You said sarcastically, you started circling one another like predators with their prey, ready for whatever was about to happen but also hesitating because of your feelings towards each other.
“I don’t want to fight you (Y/N)... just give me the lightsaber and we can act like none of this happened” Cal’s voice came out more reassuring this time, realising a hand out to you as the other still gripped his scarlet lightsaber. You scrunched your face up in confusion, eyes sharp and narrow as they concentrated on your boyfriends face.
“No” You muttered, shaking your head and making your answer known to the Inquisitor in front of you who’s gold eyes were ablaze with rising anger. Cal didn’t want to raise his voice to you, he didn’t even want to lay a finger on you, he was angry because he wished it wasn’t you who he was up against. Out of all the Jedi left, you had to be one of them. You were the thing he was trained to kill.
“It doesn’t have to be this way” You called out to Cal in a more confident and clear tone, scared that he would take it the wrong way as you two continued circling one another.
“Come with me” You carried on, raising your own hand this time and spreading it out so he could take it. Bewildered, Cal took another step back and swallowed a lump in his throat, not sure where to look as he trembled. There was a war going on in his head, a war he couldn’t conquer just yet. He looked back up to meet your desperate gaze and softly shook his head.
“You know I can’t do that” He shook his head and his voice croaked out to you as if he was holding back tears, you could feel the sadness and guilt from where he was standing. It made your head dizzy. You wanted him to come with you, maybe run away with you and start a new life. But he wasn’t for budging, you could tell it would take some time to get him to think about leaving his life as a killing machine behind.
It pained you to see him like this, it also didn’t help that neither of you had seen each other in over a month and your meeting wasn’t on good terms. He was here to kill you, you knew it.
“I’m not going to fight you Cal, I’m not” You unsheathed your lightsaber that once was his, clipping it to your belt but a part of you was screaming to get it back in your hand and defend yourself. Cal didn’t unsheath his own and kept still, eyes wide and his brows furrowed.
He didn’t say anything, his bottom lip quivered as he sucked in a shaky breath and tore his gaze from you.
After what felt like minutes, he unsheathed his lightsaber and his hand was shaking violently as he held it. You sighed in relief, heart thumping wildly in your chest as you awaited his further actions.
“Where did you get that lightsaber?” He asked, eyes flickering to your waist where the lightsaber lay. You took a hesitant step closer to him, taking the lightsaber from your belt again but not igniting it.
“Bracca” You answered truthfully, watching his gaze shift from curious to confused.
“What were you doing there?” His voice was hoarse all of a sudden, like his old life was flashing before his eyes at the mention of his old home.
“A mission with the rebels” You looked at the lightsaber and traced it with your fingertips intricately. Cal watched you with a soft gaze, he looked down at your lips and all of a sudden felt his heart speed up just that little bit more.
Cal wanted to kiss you, but he wasn’t sure how many eyes were on you right now. You were both amongst bodies of fallen stormtroopers and rebels, it wasn’t entirely the most ideal place to kiss you. But maker he wanted to, he wanted to kiss you even though he was supposed to kill you. Sharp pain lingered in his chest at the fact you were now a priority within the Inquisutors, another Jedi on the list to take out. As much as he is loyal to the Empire, he can’t take out the one person who made him feel true love for the first time in his life. He couldn’t bring himself to do it, and it made him feel worthless. But in his head your life was more valuable than his, he’d die for you if it meant getting you away from the Empire. You weren’t aware of the impact you made on his life, you were the first and only person to have been put in front of his job, the meeting on Kashyyyk goes to prove it.
You looked down past the lightsaber in your hand and looked at Cal’s free hand which was balled into a fist. You reluctantly stroked it with your fingers, hand slowly but surely slipping into his own and intertwining. Cal felt all the stress and anxiety flush out of his system as he felt your hand in his, he looked up to you and all of a sudden his lightsaber dropped to the ground with a loud thud, proving how heavy it really was.
In a flash, his other hand cupped your cheek and he brought you in for a passionate, longing kiss that made your stomach flutter. You dropped your own lightsaber which landed next to his and wrapped your arms around his neck, his own wrapped tightly around your waist. You ran your fingers through his red hair, pulling him closer to kiss you deeper as his hands gripped your waist. His lips felt so soft against your own, teeth tugging on them softly as you opened your mouth to let him in. You weren’t sure how long you stood there kissing for, the sun started to set on Kashyyyk and you didn’t want to let him go so soon after not seeing him for more than enough time.
Cal dipped his head to your neck and bit down on it, lips teeth and tongue creating a dark bruise on your skin which you guranteed would be there for over a week. It felt sore, you tugged on his hair and let out a weak whimper as your eyes shut over. Cal smiled against your neck, biting down once more before leaning his head back and returning to your lips.
“(Y- (Y/N) are you there?” It was Merrin, her voice was static with the quality of the coms device on your wrist but you heard her loud and clear. You took a hesitant step back from Cal who’s arms were still around your waist.
“Yeah, I’m here” You replied, your voice cracking slightly which caused a blush to rise on your face as Cal chuckled silently and tucked a strand of hair behind your ear.
“Thank Maker you’re still alive, we were told an Inquisitor had arrived on Kashyyyk, are you alright?” She asked with worry, her heavy Dathomirian accent ringing out in the warm Kashyyyk air.
“I’m okay, a little hurt from a blaster shot but it’s just a scratch” You smiled, looking to Cal who frowned at your words and took a step back to inspect your body. You stifled a giggle as he spotted the blaster shot on your leg and looked like he was about to rip someone’s throat out.
“We’ve got bacta patches here, hurry up and get to the Mantis, Cere wants a word with you” Merrin sighed before switching off her coms and leaving you once more with your Inquisitor boyfriend.
Cal froze in his spot, looking up to you and opening his mouth to say something. Nothing came out of his mouth, you were guessing he just didn’t want to go and leave you once again.
Taking a step close to him, your heads leaned against one another and you closed your eyes, enjoying the silence between you and wrapping your arms around Cal once again to bid a painful farewell to him. Cal buried his head in your neck and hugged you tightly, stroking your hair as you yawned in his shoulder and caused him to chuckle.
“I should let you go” He sighed, pulling away and making you frown. Just as you were about to protest, you realised how late it was getting and how impatient Cere must be. You ruffled his hair playfully and made him laugh, his golden eyes narrowing as his cheek raised with the smile on his face.
“I really should get going” You mumbled, cupping his cheek and tracing it with your thumb. Cal closed his eyes and leaned into your touch, purring at the feeling until his eyes opened once more at the sound of a distant yell.
“I love you” You whispered to him, kissing him firmly and cupping the back of his neck as he kissed you back with just as much passion.
“I love you too” He pulled away, flicking your chin playfully with his index finger before you both picked up your lightsabers and gave each other one last yearning glance before running off in opposite directions, returning to the opposite lives you both had.

Mission on Mimban: My Outline Process
Previous Installments
Introduction, One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, Seven, Eight, Nine, Ten, Eleven, Twelve
What Changes in My Fic
Here's the place where I put all my ideas in one place and see what scenes need to happen when to make a story. Normally, I would do this in private but since you have seen all my notes in reviewing Splinter of the Mind's Eye, I figured you guys deserved to see the next step. So first, I'm grabbing my notes from the previous twelve posts.
Cast change: Luke, Mara, and Artoo. Threepio is with Leia who doesn't get stranded on this swamp planet. Mara does need an astromech for her X-Wing so I have to commit to a new character or commit to killing off a droid. Regardless, this adventure will give Mara all kinds of snark when she and Luke end up on Dagobah.
The timeline: I need to move this adventure much closer to the Battle of Yavin to preserve the padawans' inexperience with the Force. Plus the Rebel Alliance suspicions on if Mara has fully defected.
The reason for being there: One of Obi-Wan's complaints in Extrication will be Alliance duties yanking his padawans out of their Jedi training. This could be one of those duties, surveying unexplored and non-colonized worlds for Alliance purposes, and it's Luke and Mara's turn. The beacon is unexpected given their information on Mimban so they approach to investigate, strange energy in the atmosphere fried their ships, and they crash on planet.
I also suspect everything in this chapter can be condensed.
Remember to come back to this book to steal Threepio and Artoo insults. I had a time creating them for Star Wars: My Home Is You, so I need more examples.
In an effort to get on with this project, I'm going with they crashed a roughly two-day hike away to the mining outpost and that was far enough away for the Imperials to not notice crashing ships.
Mimbanites' abuse mini-scene is an opportunity to display some growth from Mara. Since she was raised on Coruscant in the Imperial Palace, the only contact she has had with aliens are the ones who have been subjugated as slaves or the ones trying to survive in the ghettoes created on Coruscant. Humans abuse aliens when they can is all she has seen. The equality in the Rebel Alliance ranks is a cultural shock she is soldiering through in her endearing Mara way (which probably isn't helping her reputation any), but Luke's reaction to the abuse puts her perspective in a different light. Actually that may be the best way to sum up their relationship. It gives Luke's empathy something to play off without making Mara callous, like the scene currently does with Leia.
Luke and Mara's cover story won't involve slavery.
Threatening miners will be threatening without being titillated by a mud-covered Mara.
The miner who loses an eye is unidentified, but I'm willing to say it was the double-bladed stilettos everywhere miner.
Grammel's interrogation technique is to beat up the weaker of the pair. Just how well would this work against Mara Jade? I mean, she'll take a beating to sell her cover story or get her where she needs to go, but really does she have to take it from Grammel? Or can she lash back?
Luke's lightsaber does draw Grammel's notice, which gives Mara the observation that he needs to find a better hiding place for it, and leads to Artoo's flare launcher getting modified.
Luke's lightsaber is what gets them booted up the chain of command here. I don't know if it needs to be in what I write. It depends on whether I write from Grammel's POV or not and I haven't decided.
Star Wars: The Essential Guide to Alien Species by Ann Margaret Lewis had a better reason for Luke knowing Yuzz: a Yuzzem lived in Anchorhead and Luke made friends with him. This is the backstory reason I'm going with rather than "I studied a lot of worlds back on Tatooine" reason Foster came up with.
Hin and Kee's backstory won't change much except I'm going with option three: alien trafficking. These two Yuzzem kids were approached and promised a well paying job, a chance to send credits back home which probably isn't doing so great under Imperial rule. Then they get to Mimban and they are paid, but everything is being docked from their paychecks. The flight to Mimban, their return flight home whenever they fulfill their contract, food, lodging, any equipment they break because it's designed for humans not Yuzzem until there is nothing left to save. They are free to leave once their contract is fulfilled or they pay to get out of it. Hah, hah, you can't pay. There you go, exploitation without slavery.
I have to decide on Puddra's rank, but I'm making him the ranking officer over the prisoners like a warden.
Overall, the prison break is decent, if a bit talky in spots. My problem is there would be less for Halla to do because Luke and Mara both are in training and levitating the tray should occur to them without outside prompting. Also, I'm not sure this qualifies as the midpoint but I'm putting it there unless a later scene makes a more compelling case.
This chapter is continuation of the escape and a reaction to it, so I don't see much of it changing. I'm a fan of Hin and Kee dismembering stormtroopers and Halla being a bad-ass.
But we know lightsabers don't need recharging, so I don't have to bother with that.
Frangi (@teagrl) introduced me to a new term last night: Grudgewriting. The way I understand it is you at least found the premise of the story to have some worth but the execution of that premise pissed you off enough to respond via fic. I was categorizing this under the Fix Fic trope but recognize that doesn't cover the sheer anger the canon work caused by its existence.
I don't know if I need hard numbers on the Imperial forces. I do have the feeling that this is information Mara would seek to gather for Rebellion Intelligence, but I have no idea what to put in Google to start the search for realistic numbers. "How many soldiers do you need to occupy a civilian population?"
I'll probably keep in the wandrella chase, it's not too bad for a complication. But Hin or Kee is picking up Threepio as they flee the thing. Do I want to keep its pathetic death? It's kind of sad that our protagonists don't do anything to defeat it. But it does set them onto a new path.
Showing better trauma victim support: Mara's trauma is so different from Leia and with the bond between her and Luke, I don't see this conversation even having the massive misstep of Luke making it all about him. What will they talk about during this hike?
Lumas will be changed to glow rods. And do a better job with explaining where the equipment comes from.
I want a line from Mara about how bad they are at keeping watch when they wake up.
The underground lake is a good opportunity to touch on what swimming lessons the Alliance has given Luke.
The lightsaber effects the lake monster. Unless it doesn't for the same reason lightsabers don't seem to boil water. Research this.
My revision of the after lake monster fight: Luke's clingy because oh-crap-I-could've-drowned! reaction has kicked in and Mara has pulled him back onboard. Mara discovers she's not opposed to clingy or more accurately hugging with Luke.
Mara's getting the Canu's judgment fight. She's better at hand-to-hand combat and didn't almost drown fighting a lake monster several hours ago. Let's add in that she's having trouble with levitation. She tried it with her droid that sank into the quickclay and couldn't, so grappling with the rock unlocks it for her.
Concentrates versus ration bars: I think I'm bringing back ration bars. There's just something too Jetsons Space Age about one pill keeping you fed for several hours, even though I appreciate the work Foster put into creating them.
The art comparison is a perfect one for Mara to make. Raised in the Imperial Court in the heart of Coruscant, trained in dance as her cover but it and music for dancing were probably the one fun thing she was allowed once her training began in earnest, she has the technical expertise and the Force Sensitivity to figure out what is different between the Coways' dance and the Imperial ballet corps. She wants to dance with the Coway to combine their moves with the ones she was taught. Will she get the chance? Will she take the chance?
Vader or not to Vader: To be honest, I had thought about leaving Vader out of my version of this story despite his pose on the cover art. [IMAGE HERE] Grammel is the big bad at the beginning, so I was considering ways he could continue being the big bad all the way through. Or if he absolutely couldn't, make concrete the more Emperor's Hands with a new character taking Vader's spot to get rid of Luke Skywalker once and for all. But since Foster neglected to give Vader his proper due, I'm back to wanting him. And it will do Anakin some good to be rejected by Luke three times in the series. Trust me.
If anybody knows how to build a booby trap with Imperial weapons, it's Mara. Luke wanders off to be dejected he can't stop the massacre and she does something useful like get them fully charged weapons and tell the Coway what to do with the rest.
Halla muscles her way into the driver seat since she's the one who knows Mimban the best, with the same driving results.
Needless to say, Vader's conversational gambits are changing. He's not ready to reveal who he is to Luke yet (I'm saving that fun for Bespin of course) and Mara's there and of course, she's there to kill Luke again.
The Kaiburr crystal gives Padmé's ghost enough energy to show up to Luke, Mara, and Vader. Luke pulls down part of the temple to keep Vader from killing Mara and has a talk with Padmé, asking if she's an angel. Hin and Kee are not both going to die. But Vader's shuttle will end up at the temple, piloted by one of his Noghri honor guards, and our good guys are going to steal it to get off Mimban. So there will be a new conclusion scene when Leia and Obi-Wan come to pick them up.
My second step is to fill out the expected scenes in bold. This outline started with a worksheet from Larry Brooks (storyfix.com) and I have been adding details from K.M. Weiland's techniques (Helping Writers Become Authors). These are the scenes that must be there for the plot to make sense. I don't worry about the blank numbers in between. As I work on the third step, I will fill in the scenes between the expected scenes evenly so the math works out (at least closer than Foster's finished product did).
The third step is to answer the Questions to Ask to Figure Out the Beats that is under the blank outline. Usually, I don't fill this out while I'm outlining but the way the published novel has beaten me up, I'd rather take the time now to make sure what I picked works before I write the narrative. Also since I want to shorten my version, my plan is to drop some scenes.
My fourth step is to even out the sections and delete all the blank numbers in my outline. Now I'm checking how many scenes are between my plot points. Five scenes before 1st Plot Point, four scenes between 1st Plot Point and the Midpoint, six scenes between the Midpoint and the 3rd Plot Point, and eight scenes after the 3rd Plot Point. OOPS! I left out a scene between the 1st Plot Point and the Midpoint: Grammel and the prisoners conversation through the cell bars. So now I have Five scenes before 1st Plot Point, five scenes between 1st Plot Point and the Midpoint, six scenes between the Midpoint and the 3rd Plot Point, and eight scenes after the 3rd Plot Point. And it's only five scenes between the 3rd Plot Point and the Climactic Moment, so I don't feel the second half is uneven.
So now if you want here's the Mission on Mimban Beat Sheet:
Part 1 – Set up:
Hook = Discovering the broadcasting beacon and an energy discharge in the atmosphere causes both Luke and Mara’s X-Wings to crash.
Luke and Artoo find Mara. Her astromech sunk in the quickclay and she couldn’t save it by levitating it with the Force since her levitation isn’t working. She treats the cut on Luke’s head.
Hiking and then camping. Mara has snark about easy assignment and fun exploring more planets Luke promised her. Luke insists that’s what Wedge told him. Talk around the campfire leads to romantic interest (Mara’s in Luke’s head she knows how much he loved Biggs.) Luke is bisexual, Wedge is heterosexual, Mara is scary. Luke: “You give off a vibe that you’ll tear out anyone’s throat for saying hello.” Mara: “I would not. You and Master Obi-Wan would not approve.” Mara is uncomfortable with sharing snuggles, thinking it is more intimate than they are. Luke explains he and Biggs did the same to stay warm on Tatooine.
Inciting Event at 1/8 or 12% of word count = Luke and Mara discover the Imperial mining town and that the Empire is secretly and illegally mining on Mimban.
They infiltrate the tavern for some real food, see how the Mimbanites are treated, and draw Imperial curiosity. Luke’s cover story: Mara is his Holo Domestic Partner and Mara adds a personal sob story. The Imperial leaves them alone.
1st Plot Point at 2/8 or 25% of word count = Luke and Mara make a deal with Halla to help her find the Kaiburr crystal in exchange for Halla’s help in getting them off planet.
Part 2 – Response:
A group of drunk miners are intent on assaulting Mara, Luke and Mara are intent on preventing that, and a fight breaks out. Halla finds Artoo as she sneaks away and Imperial stormtroopers round up everyone for Grammel to punish.
Pinch Point at 3/8 of word count = Luke and Mara meet Grammel and are imprisoned while their second cover story is investigated.
Luke and Mara are thrown into a cell with a pair of Yuzzem, Hin and Kee. Mara is alarmed, but Luke knows how to say hello in Yuzz and makes friends.
Grammel contacts Governor Essada over the lightsaber. Essada is sending it to the Imperial specialist’s attention and Grammel needs to keep the pair in custody until a decision is made about them. Grammel then hurries down to the prison level to check on things.
Grammel charges into the cell block and is relieved that the Yuzzem have not killed Luke and Mara. Then he threatens them trying to learn what’s so special about them.
Mid-Point Shift at 4/8 or 50% of word count = Prison escape. A good time to show how weak Mara’s levitation skill is with the tray. They underestimated the blood thirst of the Yuzzem.
Part 3 – Attack:
Luke sees his lightsaber on Grammel’s belt before sending the charges down that hallway and grabs it back with the Force. They blow their way out of the Imperial headquarters and steal the crawler. Information exchange while they keep moving at a slower pace.
Pinch Point at 5/8 of word count = Vader arrives on Mimban and meets Grammel. Vader is not impressed, but is oddly proud of the Rebel who orchestrated the prison break.
Cover the wandrella chase and underground hike with exposition and start the scene with the underground lake travel. Luke fights the lake monster.
They land and are attacked by the Coway. They win and chase after the last one, only to find their captured party in the Coway village.
Mara fights to the Coway champion for Canu’s judgment. She wins by finally harnessing levitation to hit the Coway in the head with a rock.
All is Lost Lull = Coway feast ends with the realization Vader and stormtroopers are coming
Part 4 – Resolution:
3rd Plot Point at 6/8 or 75% of word count = Battle between the Coway and the Imperials
Aftermath of the battle, liberating transportation from the Imperials, and racing to the temple.
Vader kills Grammel.
They arrive at the Temple of Pomojema, apparently first, and have to fight off a lizard monster. Luke defeats the monster, but his arm is broken by rock pulled by the lizard monster. Then he gets trapped by the falling ceiling.
Vader’s entrance, Vader fights Mara. Halla and Hin go for the crystal. Kee tries to help Mara with Vader and Mara is able to deflect Vader’s killing blow so Kee loses his arm instead. Vader gives her the gash down the leg.
Halla and Hin come back to Luke and Kee, and Hin pulls the stone off Luke. Vader offers to spare Mara’s life if Luke surrenders to him. Halla gives Luke the Kaiburr crystal.
Climactic Moment at 7/8 or 98% of word count = Luke powered by the Kaiburr crystal pulls part of the temple down on Vader and talks to Padmé.
Vader’s Noghri Honor Guard brings Vader’s shuttle to the temple, so they steal it. They clean up and treat the wounds as they flee in hyperspace. Halla notes that the Kaiburr crystal is no longer magical.
Obi-Wan’s POV: The Falcon lands in the Nanth’ri system to pick up Luke and Mara with Obi-Wan and Leia both on board. They are battered and burned and have the Kaiburr crystal and two Yuzzem with them, one down an arm. Obi-Wan tells them they’re learning healing techniques next as they get them on board. They had exchanged a part of value off of Vader’s shuttle with Halla for the Kaiburr crystal, even though it seems de-powered now. Obi-Wan doesn’t think the stone is suitable for lightsabers and Mara protests cutting it into smaller pieces. Luke agrees with Mara. “It’s not ours. Not really. We’re just keeping it safe until the Empire is gone and we can return it to Mimban.”
Questions to Ask to Figure Out the Beats
What is the conceptual hook/appeal of your story? Rewrite Splinter of the Mind’s Eye to improve it and fit it into the Rescue the Farmboy series
What is the theme(s) of your story? Not completely sure yet, but something to do with the human bigotry against the various alien species. I want to take that aspect of the original book and beat it to death with a hammer.
How does your story open? Luke and Mara arrive at Mimban and discover a beacon broadcasting. They head down to land and the energy discharge causes them to crash.
Is there an immediate hook? Yes, will they survive crashing is a question to keep readers reading.
And then…
What is the hero doing in their life before the first plot point? The assignment was to explore Mimban for potential Rebel Alliance use. Crashing their ships has changed it to finding the beacon and surviving until they can find a way off the planet.
What stakes are established prior to the first plot point? The Empire has established a secret mining facility on Mimban. This makes survival easier (human supplies) and harder (Luke and Mara are both wanted by the Empire).
What is the Inciting Event in your story? Luke and Mara finding the Imperial mining town and realize what is going on here.
What is your character’s backstory? Luke was wanted by the Empire, surrendered to Darth Vader, and was kept a prisoner on the Death Star until he was rescued by his friends. He then blew up the Death Star and saved Mara Jade’s life by finding her after she crashed into Yavin 4. Mara Jade failed to kill Luke Skywalker and would have died for it if not for Luke’s intervention. Her loyalty has transferred to him along with sharing a Force Bond with him. Artoo has finally found Anakin Skywalker’s son that Obi-Wan Kenobi disappeared with eighteen years ago and he is not letting the organic out of his sight again. Even better, Luke is a pilot too. He gets to fly again. This story is set two months after Liberation.
What inner demons show up here that will come to bear on the hero later in the story? What is the lie the character believes? Lie Mara believes: Human are superior. Lie Luke believes: He won’t love anyone else like he loved Biggs.
What is foreshadowed prior to the first plot point? Dealing with the misconceptions Mara has about physical contact and what was between Luke and Biggs come up while they make camp after crashing. Mara sees nothing wrong with how the Mimbanites are treated.
What is the first plot point in your story? Luke and Mara make a deal with Halla to help her get the Kaiburr crystal in exchange for her helping get them off Mimban.
Is it located properly within the story sequence? Yes.
How does it change the hero’s agenda going forward? It seems like a minor diversion to earn them good will of a local who can help them escape Mimban without Imperial reprisal. And that the Kaiburr crystal seems to affect the Force is a good reason to keep it out of Imperial hands.
What is the nature of the hero’s new need/quest? Treasure hunt!
What is at stake relative to meeting that need? Luke and Mara being identified by the Imperials and probably executed.
What opposes the hero in meeting that need? The Imperial forces on Mimban led by Captain-Supervisor Grammel.
What does the antagonistic force have at stake? Losing the secrecy over the mining operation on Mimban (if the local system government finds out, it could change the amount of Imperial resources spent to extract the ore). Losing control over the criminals who have been pressed into mining service.
Why will the reader empathize with the hero at this point? Grammel is horrible, physically violent and threatens torture to get what he wants. And he sees through Luke and Mara’s cover stories.
How does the hero respond to the antagonistic force? Luke lies and lies some more, while trying to protect Mara from Grammel and protect Grammel from Mara. Then he makes allies with the Yuzzem.
What is the mid-point contextual shift/twist in your story? The prison break is when Luke and Mara take charge of their fates. They have no plans to be here when Grammel finds out they are not criminals from Circarpous, so time to use what Jedi skills they have learned to get out.
How does it part the curtain of superior knowledge…
… For the hero? Keeping the Yuzzem under control; neither Luke nor Mara thought that would be a problem. More Luke than Mara, she’s fine with killing off the enemy that would chase them.
and/or, for the reader? Readers will see Mara’s weak levitation skills in action when Luke has to grab the tray mentally.
How does this shift the context of the story? The treasure hunt to reach the Kaiburr crystal and leave Mimban before the Imperial forces regroup is on.
How does this pump up dramatic tension and pace? The prison break ends up blowing up the Imperial headquarters.
How does your hero begin to successfully attack their need/quest? They steal a crawler (or a repulsorlift vehicle) and follow the map toward the Temple of Pomojema.
How does the antagonistic force respond to this attack? The Imperial forces have to lick their wounds and figure out how to track the escapees through the jungles. And then Grammel has to greet Lord Vader. Lord Vader is so not impressed with the Imperial forces, though, oddly enough he’s a bit proud of the prison break.
How do the hero’s inner demons come to bear on this attack?
What is the all-is-lost lull just before the third plot point? The Coway feast ends with the realization that Vader is leading the Imperials straight to them.
What is the third plot point in your story? The Coway successfully beat back the Imperials, but Vader and Grammel get away to get the Kaiburr crystal first. Vader’s reasoning is if Luke is after it, Luke will come to Vader to get it.
How does this change or affect the hero’s proactive role? Luke is determined to get the Kaiburr crystal and get off planet before Vader takes him prisoner again.
How is your hero the primary catalyst for the successful resolution of the central problem or issue in this story? Vader offers to spare Mara if Luke joins him. Luke refuses. Halla gives the Kaiburr crystal to Luke and with the amplified Force, Luke pushes Vader back where the lizard came from and drops more ceiling between him and Mara. Padmé appears and gets to talk to Luke. They steal Vader’s shuttle and leave Vader’s Noghri honor guard to dig him out.
How does it meet the hero’s need and fulfill the quest? They get the Kaiburr crystal, so the treasure hunt is won. And Vader’s wailing on Mara makes both Vader and Luke realize he cares more than just friendship.
How does the hero demonstrate the conquering of inner demons? Mara defeats her lie by protecting the Yuzzem. Luke rescues Mara.
How are the stakes of the story paid off? They’re beat up to hell and back, but they survived and got off Mimban. And the Empire didn’t get the Kaiburr crystal or Luke. And Leia and Han both drop their suspicions about Mara.
What will be the reader’s emotional experience as the story concludes? Relief that they made it out of the adventure. And eager to see what happens next.
If you opened my link to the blank beat sheet, you may have noticed I skipped the beginning details when I just quoted the Mission on Mimban Beat Sheet. That's because my fifth step is to figure out my Comprehensive Concept. This is a tool I was introduced to by Todd A. Stone in Novelist's Boot Camp.
A comprehensive concept is a foundation builder. It is a short statement that combines the following four essential elements to form a strong base for your complex novel: (1) genre, (2) main character, (3) opposition, and (4) macro setting.
I have added a fifth element, the conflict, but I'm not sure where I pulled that from. Maybe Larry Brooks, or maybe Shawn Coyne's Story Grid. What I have found over the years is that sentences makes a great summary that FanFiction.Net and Ao3 both ask for to describe your fic.
So for this story, I came up with this list.
Genre: Action-adventure fanfic
Opposition: the Empire
Main Characters: Luke Skywalker and Mara Jade
Macro Setting: Star Wars, Mimban
Conflict: beat the Imperials to the mystical object
Now you meld these five items into a sentence that describes the story. I ended up with: In this action-adventure fanfic, Luke Skywalker and Mara Jade’s exploration of Mimban is derailed by the unexpected Imperial presence on the planet and their way off-planet depends on finding the Kaiburr crystal before the Imperials do.
That's done and I'm prepared to start on the narrative. You may have noticed I skipped over filling in the theme(s). I have an idea, especially considering the human bigotry of this story, but I generally wait to see what develops and then find it to punch it up during the editing.
So thank you for taking this journey with me. I hope I've given you something you can apply to your own writing endeavors. There will be fic at some point.

Chapter Twenty-Seven
"Aren't we headed the wrong way?" Ezra shouts at Kanan. He's on his speeder, along with Kanan, Keen, and Sabine, racing away from the site of their most recent victory. A trail of Imperials parading behind the group.
"Don't want to lead 'em back to the ship. Follow me."
Keen glances behind her, seeing the large amount of Imperials. "Man, all this for some stolen cargo? You'd think we'd killed Darth Vader's cat."
Ezra looks at her, confusion behind his eyes, "Darth Vader has a cat?"
"Um...as far as I'm aware, no."
The group of four race into Capital City. The Imperials split off into separate groups, shortly before entering the city. As soon as they speed into the town, the four split off.
Ar'iabel turns tightly down a side street, her boot scraping the wall. The Trooper following behind her takes the turn wider, shooting at the Jedi. She looks around in front of her, grabbing her blaster, she shoots a banner dangling above them, the fabric falling down, just as the Stormtrooper's speeder races underneath, knocking him from the bike.
She rounds the bend at the end of the alley, almost colliding with Sabine. The Mandalorian gestures to a small stone awning above their heads. Keen nods in understanding, giving Sabine a boost up, and then jumping up herself.
She finds Kanan and Ezra already up on the roof. The Knight nods down at the unconscious Troopers. "There's one more just around there," he whispers. She nods in understanding, just as the final Imp rounds the corner.
Ezra raises his Lightsaber, shooting a bolt of energy at the man, who promptly collapses, unconscious. "Told you that would work."
"You're finally getting the hang of this. There's hope for you yet," Sabine praises him, leaping to follow Kanan off the awning.
A goofy smile spreads across the boys face, and Keen places a hand on his shoulder, "It was pretty fragging smart, kid. Good work."
The Jedi leaps off the awning herself, Ezra right on her tail.
The team climb back aboard their bikes, heading for the Ghost. "Y'know," Ezra says, his bike keeping speed with Keen's, "You never did get the chance to tell me anything about your past. You know an awful lot about me, but I know next to nothing about you."
"Right, okay, a brief history. I'm 297 years old. I trained in the Jedi Temple for 281 years before it fell. My Master was Yoda, and my final Padawan was Qui-Gon Jinn. Um…I got no clue what planet I'm from, it's been so long, never really asked," she shrugs. "There, now you know stuff about me," she smiles at him, just as the foursome race into the Ghost.
As the Rebels enter the common area, they see Hera and Zeb watching the HoloNet. Gall Trayvis is talking about how he rejoined the Empire, and condemning the crew.
Zeb scoffs at the hologram, "Karabast. Shut it off."
"Still makes me sick to think that Trayvis is working for the Empire," the Twi'lek responds, hitting the switch to shut the table down.
"Every time we win, we lose," Ezra grumbles.
"Well, I have a plan that might just even the score," Kanan crosses his arms, "If Trayvis can do it, we can do it too."
"What, we're gonna send out some kind of inspirational type messages?" the Lasat wonders aloud.
"Exactly."
Keen pushes herself off the wall, which she is leaning against. "It isn't a bad plan, but, how are we gonna pull it off?"
"Um, yeah, I don't get it," Sabine adds.
"Yeah, Kanan. What are you thinking? We can't just send a signal. The Empire would track it in half a second."
"Not if the signal comes from one of its own towers."
"Yeah, one problem. Do you know how hard it'll be to break in? How many guards there'll be? Not to mention, alarms, cameras, droids," Ar'iabel states, lifting one finger with each descriptive word of the Empire's potential security.
Ezra points his finger at her, "What she said. You-You want to take control of an Imperial communications tower, which is pretty much impossible, and then you want to use it to send a message to the people of Lothal?"
"Not just Lothal. One of those big towers can reach a few systems."
"That is one fragging crazy plan."
Kanan looks at his crew, eyes meeting Keen's, "That's why you like it."
She tilts her head to the side slightly, smiling, "I mean, you're not wrong. Crazy is basically how I've always operated. Why change it up now?"
"And what would we say in this message?" Ezra questions his Master.
Kanan doesn't even have to consider what he'll say, "Something the Empire never says, the truth."
Chopper chitters happily in response.
"There's a lot of truth to tell, Kanan. You want to elaborate?" The Knight turns and glares at the Jedi Master. She can sense hope swelling in each rebel.
"We have to let people know what it's really like out here. Now, are you in?"
"Count me in," Ezra responds.
"Looks like you've roped me into another one of your crazy plans, Sandy."
He glances at the out of the corner of his eye, "You're just mad you didn't think of it."
"Kriff straight I am."

So I’ve hinted at these guys a couple times in asks and stories, but I’m happy to say I finally got to drawing them! Meet Naj Kar and Anva Evis—powerful warriors, rebel sympathizers, star-crossed lovers, and the parents Cerate hardly got to know.
Pictured here is them when they lived as a pair of smugglers post-Order 66, in an effort to make some cash and distance themselves from their old Jedi identities—more on that in their backstory, though. I of course have to give props to @empress-only-in-name for helping me flesh out their designs a bit with this commission from forever ago—for the longest time I had no idea how these two would look but, with their help and a whole lot of experimenting, I think I finally have a concrete design for them with this one!
All told, I’m super happy with how these guys turned out, but what do you guys think? Do these designs look cool? Do you wanna see more from them? Should I have them come back as Force ghosts and teach Cer the ways of the Jedi order? Send whatever feedback you have my way! :D
Just as with all my OCs, their backstories are under the cut. Btw, Master Sko’dal, who’s mentioned briefly down there, belongs to @deer-head-xiris.
Naj Kar and Anva Evis were both born before the invasion of Naboo—Naj in 36 BBY, Anva in 37—to a Dathomiri witch and an Iridonian couple, respectively. Yet as would become the norm for the rest of their lives, any hope of normalcy was quickly ripped from them. Anva was discovered to be Force-sensitive as an infant, which in turn prompted the Jedi to come and take her away from her parents to their temple on Coruscant. There she was raised under the Jedi’s firm yet unloving hand, learning the ways of the Force and the Jedi code. When she turned thirteen, it was decided that she would enter the next stage of her training, and thus she was placed under the tutelage of the Kaleesh Jedi Master Vortys Banne. as his Padawan.
Naj, however, found himself in a far less hospitable home. He was also discovered to be Force-sensitive at a young age, but before either the Jedi or the Sith could get to him, he was taken by a far more malicious clan—the Hutts. One day, a convoy of Hutt clan slaver ships stopped on Dathomir to refuel, and while they were stopped they took the liberty of ransacking Naj’s village and enslaving many of its inhabitants. In the ensuing years, Naj would be separated from the others, and eventually he would find himself a slave to Marlo the Hutt on Nal Hutta. There, when he was still only a child, Naj was made to fight in gladiatorial combat, due to his species’ reputation as incredible warriors. Miraculously, Naj would survive these fights for years, on account of his natural strength and, of course, with a little subtle help from the Force.
And even more miraculously, it would be this use of the Force that would bring Naj and Anva together. It was 23 BBY—only a year before the start of the Clone Wars. Word had eventually got out that Marlo possessed a Force-sensitive gladiator, and eventually that word reached the Jedi order, who sent Master Banne and Padawan Evis to Nal Hutta to investigate the claims. Sure enough, Naj was fighting when they got there. It was the most surreal thing—a twelve year old boy, barely big enough to fill the armor he wore, putting down men twice his size like it was nothing. Not only that, but he was clearly using the Force, both to enhance his strength and physically move his opponents. Master Banne looked on the boy and saw a potential asset to the Order, but Anva saw past the boy’s strength and saw something else—he was scared. He didn’t want to fight.
After the fight, Banne got straight to negotiating with Marlo about buying the boy his freedom. While he did, Anva went and found Naj in his room—which was less of a room and more of a cell, really. He was a ghastly sight up close: malnourished, bruised and scarred, with striking black tattoos covering every inch of his carnelian-colored skin. When Anva tried to speak to him, he jumped out of fright and averted his gaze from hers. Just as Anva had suspected—the poor kid had learned to fear everyone new person he met. He’d never had a friend—only masters with whips and opponents with blades. Anva kept trying to talk, but it wasn’t until Naj got a good look at her that he started to break down his wall just a little bit. Evidently, meeting another Zabrak—and one as kind as Anva, at that—was just what he needed to feel comfortable. Soon enough, Naj was happy as a clam, and as he and Anva talked more they became fast friends. Why, Anva just couldn’t wait to be there with him as they both grew into powerful Jedi knights.
But, that vision didn’t exactly pan out. After freeing Naj and taking him back to Coruscant, Banne and Anva brought Naj before the council. There, they judged him, tested his midi-chlorian count and everything, but the conclusion they came to was more grim than anyone had hoped. Due to Naj being a member of a species heavily connected to the dark side, as well as being immersed in violence for his whole life, it was decided that Naj couldn’t and wouldn’t be trained as a Jedi. Banne and Anva protested, but they were ignored. Instead, it was decided that Naj would be kept at the temple for his own safety, but he could never be a Jedi. Anva was at first upset at this news, but with time she accepted what she’d been given, and over the next year she and Naj hung out in the temple whenever they could, with her training progressing all the while.
Then, the Clone Wars broke out. Padawan Anva became Commander Evis of the G.A.R., and she began to see her friend Naj less and less in favor of long military campaigns. Yet instead of growing apart, the two began to treat their little time together as sacred, with Anva spending nearly all of her time at the temple with Naj. They’d just spend hours talking—sometimes Anva would read to Naj, as he himself was illiterate, and sometimes the two would share Force tricks they’d picked up, but mostly they’d just talk. Naj would recount the events of his mundane Temple life, and Anva would vent about the stresses of war. In both cases, they talked of how alone they felt. How everyone saw them only as objects or weapons of war. How they felt stuck—isolated, even surrounded by masses of people. When they were together, though...they felt happy. They felt understood. Dare I say it, they felt loved.
Love is exactly what blossomed between them, too. It started out purely platonic, but soon enough things did get physical from time to time—they were teenagers, though, who could blame ‘em? Their few and far between meetings at the temple became secret trysts, known of only by them and a few close friends. They knew what they were doing was dangerous, but for better or worse, their love pushed them to risk it. Eventually, however, the risk came back to bite them. Somehow their secret got out, and word eventually made its way back to Master Banne, who promptly told the council of what had happened. In the ensuing debate about what was to be done next, it was concluded that Naj must have been the instigator of these heinous acts, as surely a padawan on the brink of becoming a knight couldn’t be so vulgar. It was decided, then—Naj Kar no longer had a place in the Jedi’s sanctum.
The next morning, Naj was confronted. Four temple guards came to his door, expecting him to lash out, but Naj already knew what was to come, and so he went quietly with them to the chamber of judgement. There, he was judged by a panel of masters, with Master Banne and a few others also being present. It wasn’t much of a deliberation, though—everyone had already come to an agreement. Before they could deliver their final verdict, however, Anva burst into the chamber, visibly frantic and clearly out-for-blood. Thinking she’d arrived to deliver further evidence against Naj, the council permitted her to speak.
That was their second mistake—their first mistake was ever wronging Anva Evis. With her soapbox conveniently set, Anva proceeded to tear into the Jedi, letting loose all her frustration into one impassioned speech. She berated the Jedi for their hypocrisy; they had become an order of mercenaries serving the dark side, killers in a pointless war, enemies of peace and allies of violence—and they had the audacity to punish an innocent man just for feeling love? She was far less articulated than I put it, though—at one point, when Master Yoda tried to refute her claims, she silenced him by saying, and I quote, “suck my dick, you crusty little goblin”. Vulgar as her speech was, though, its meaning reigned true—the Jedi had no right to punish neither she nor Naj, and she would tolerate their rules no longer. She closed her speech by ripping out her padawan braid, mashing it into the ground with her boot, taking Naj’s hands, and telling the council that, “if loving Naj isn’t the Jedi way, then the Jedi way isn’t my way”. She then pulled him in for a impassioned kiss, and after it was broken she said, “now that is my way”.
The room went silent for a moment—save for Master Sko’dal uttering a half impressed/half shocked “holy shit” under their breath, no one said a word. Finally, after snapping back to reality, Yoda simply furrowed his brow and pointed towards the exit, without another word. Anva responded by flipping him the bird, and as she did, Naj swept her off her feet and bridal-carried her out of the chamber. The two couldn’t help but smile, then laugh at the whole ordeal. Sure, they’d burnt every bridge they’d ever built in one fell swoop, but now they were free to go and do as they pleased—and they’d never felt happier. It was the most surreal thing, them walking out of the temple; they marched out like a bride and groom walking down the aisle, but no one dared cheer for them, lest they face similar banishment. The two were alone, for real this time—but they were alone together.
In the coming days the Republic and the Jedi order would fall, but Anva and Naj were far too long gone to even pay any mind to it. For the next few years, the two would travel the galaxy together, making end’s meet as smugglers with a worn-out old quadjumper and a whole lot of luck. They’d spend most of their days working as smugglers, but they did take days off every once in a while to visit old Jedi friends (ones who weren’t dead yet, anyway) or, when they had some extra credits, go on modest little date nights. It wasn’t a glorious life, sure, but for all the things they didn’t have, they at least had each other.
Soon enough, though, they had someone else along for the ride. Three years after leaving the Order, Anva found that she was pregnant. Though she and Naj both agreed their lifestyle wasn’t ideal for a kid to grow up in, they decided that, like they had in the past, they’d just jump in head-first and hope for the best. Thus, in 16 BBY, Anva had the baby in the back of the quadjumper, with the help of a borrowed medical droid and Naj—they couldn’t exactly go to a hospital, what with them being fugitives and all. They’d decided earlier that, if it was a boy, Anva would get to name him Cerate, and if it was a girl, Naj would get to name her Stella, with the baby taking the last name of whomever won as well. Sure enough, he was a boy, so they decided on the name Cerate Aster Evis—funny enough, though, it wasn’t until he said the name out loud that Naj got the “eviscerate” pun. Anva figured that, if he was going to take her last name, he might as well have some kind of callback to his Nightbrother side.
So for the next four years, Anva and Naj would try their best to raise Cer while also juggling their job as smugglers, going so far as to keep him in the cockpit with them while they worked. Despite the less-than-ideal circumstances, Anva and Naj actually made great parents—they always made sure he had time with both of them, they never let work get in the way of raising him, and they protected him from anything and anyone that would try to harm him. They realized, though, that the last point would only get harder as he grew up; as early as a year old, Cer started showing signs of Force sensitivity. Anva and Naj both knew from their own lives how Force-sensitive children tend to get kidnapped, but nevertheless, they did everything they possibly could have to keep their son safe and hidden.
But it would only work for so long—soon enough, the Sith would find out about Cer. One day, Anva and Naj were contacted about what they thought was a lucrative job opportunity, and seeing as they were low on cash, they naturally took it. When they went to the meeting place their client had specified, though, they were met with something far worse: a hulking figure clad in black armor, wielding a lightsaber. It was an Inquisitor; Anva and Naj had heard about them from their still-living Jedi friends, but they’d never seen one in person. Anva’s first instinct was to reach for her own saber-pike—she’d still kept it retracted on her belt, after all these years—but she decided it would be better to wait before exposing her and Naj. The two silently agreed to play dumb, then, but when the Inquisitor spoke, their hearts sank. She wasn’t after them, she said—she wanted Cer.
When Anva and Naj protested, the Inquisitor ignited her saber and, rather than use it right away, demanded once more that they hand him over. She stepped toward the ship, but before she could get closer, Anva quickly pulled out her saber and sliced off the inquisitor’s outstretched hand in one fell swoop. With a stern voice masking blazing fury, Anva stated, “Stay the hell away from my family”. Yet what the Inquisitor did next replaced all of Anva’s fury with fear—from the stump on her arm, blue and purple tendrils shot out and grabbed the severed hand, pulling it back into place. The Inquisitor inspected the hand briefly, and as she did, Anva realized what she was. She was a Gen’Dai—an alien that, as far as she knew, could never be killed. She wouldn’t be able to win this fight. The best she could do is slow her down but, in the end, there was no way out of this.
Instantly, Anva pulled Naj back into the ship and shut the door. She knew it wouldn’t hold, but it was the best she could think of. All the commotion had woken up a then-sleeping Cer, and he and Naj both stared up at Anva with looks of confusion. Anva didn’t want to say what she had to but, with a heavy heart, she began. She told Naj he needed to run—he needed to take Cer, and find a safe place for him to stay. While he did, Anva would hold the Inquisitor off—fight her as long as she could, just to give Naj and Cer as much time as possible. Naj, of course, protested—he said they could escape together, that he could help Anva fight, but they both knew there was no other way. Finally, after a brief shouting-match-turned-fit-of-tears, Naj agreed. The two tried to maintain their composure for a second, but when Cer asked if everything was okay, they instantly lost it. Not knowing what else to do, Anva and Naj pulled Cer into one last big embrace, telling him that everything would be okay.
Finally, after working up her courage for a moment, Anva stepped out of the ship. She smiled back at Naj and Cer one last time before the door shut again, tears still staining her face. That was the last time Naj or Cer ever saw her alive. Quickly, Naj started the quadjumper’s engines, and he and Cer left the planet for...somewhere. Naj didn’t know where at first, but after some thought, he came up with an idea. He knew he couldn’t stay with Cer either, so he needed a secure place for him to stay—somewhere he could be protected, hidden, and hopefully, never told about the Force. He decided that the best possible place would be on Devaron, with his and Anva’s old Jedi friend, Hes Chaddic.
It was nighttime when Naj got to Devaron, and heavy rain was blanketing the Angel’s jungle hideout. With his son in hand, he knocked on the massive factory door and asked for Hes, who came to greet him only half-dressed and half-awake. As Naj explained his situation, though, Hes perked right up. He told her about the Inquisitor, about Anva’s sacrifice, everything—and he begged Hes to look after Cer. He made it out like it would only be for a few days while he waited to get out of the Inquisitor’s sight, but Hes wasn’t fooled. “Naj,” she said, “we both know you won’t be back”
“I know, Hes,” he replied, his heart in his throat, “That’s why I need you to take care of him.” At this, Hes realized the gravity of the situation. She knew she had no idea how to raise a kid but...she had to help her friend, too. Finally, she agreed. Naj thanked her, and with a final embrace and some reassuring words to his son, he said goodbye. It took him a full five minutes to get onto the ship again—for the longest time he just stood in the doorway, not moving as far as Hes or Cer could see. He was crying still. Finally, with some effort, he boarded the ship, closed the door, and flew off into the night. Cer’s little hand waved up to him, and with a deep sigh, Hes took him inside. Naj would never return.

I haven’t done much costume art drawing since 2008, but this was fun! These boot specs are to be sent out to the boot maker in the US very shortly. Now I just have to wait for the Pantone paper fans to arrive, in glossed and matte, coming from a Canadian supply warehouse. ( Why can’t I buy what I need at a local art store anymore? Oh, I forgot, the world changed on me. Okay! ) Then finally I send in the leather colours in medium warm grey and a slightly lighter warm grey, using the matching Pantone numbers. *A warning, if any of you out there are planning to create a Clone Wars version of the Jedi Temple Guard the boots are very different. Dave Folini’s animation team augmented the design re cost reasons for the Rebels Jedi Temple Guard. So what you see in the first picture is as close as I can get to accurate / Rebel Legion standards.

My Little Rebel - Inquisitor!Cal Kestis x Female Rebel!Reader | Part 7
Summary: You’re lost in the scrapyards of Bracca but you’re determined to discover the secrets of the planet and your undiscovered past.
Warnings: None
Tumblr media
You sat still for hours after witnessing the vision of the Padawan and her master, thoughts raced through your mind and you had to take many moments trying to collect your thoughts. Your heart pounded in shock, you rubbed your temples to soothe the headache that was splitting your head in half and trying not to break down crying out of confusion.
That was you in the vision, you were certain. But you had absolutely no recollection what so ever of even being involved with any Jedi, nevermind training as one yourself. You don’t remember your past, all you ever knew was the Rebellion, nothing else, nothing more. You couldn’t shake off the feeling of familiarity you had when you held Cal’s lightsaber though, and the wound on your hand. Somehow when you woke back up from the vision, it was a scar once again and the blood was all gone. The rolled up poncho was still wrapped tightly around your hand but there was no bleeding and no more pain.
You were determined to find something new, you wanted to learn more about what you saw. You were once a Jedi, how could you not remember? Questions upon questions flourished in your mind and it done nothing for your deafening headache. You got back on track after ages of being trapped in your own thoughts, you journeyed forth to find the next purple hue of force with the lightsaber tight in your hand, claimed itself as yours.
You felt a strange connection to the lightsaber, it was like the force wanted you to have it. It had gone so long without an owner and it had been in the dark for Maker knows how many years.
During your time wandering around the scrapyards, you’ve continued having random visions even if there’s no purple hue or voice calling to you. It started happening randomly ever since you picked up the saber and saw yourself as a little girl. Strange things were happening and you weren’t sure how to feel or react towards it. You weren’t scared or petrified, of anything you were pretty calm at the fact you discovered you had a past as a Padawan.
Moments after you scrambled up a steep mechanical ramp, chest heaving and hair damp with sweat and oil from dripping towers of shipwrecks and pieces, your transmitter bleeped on your wrist and for the first time in days, you finally weren’t alone.
“(Y/N), I don’t know if you remember me, I’m Cere, listen we don’t have much time but you need to get off Bracca now, the Ninth Sister and Eleventh Brother have found your location-“ The voice of a long lost friend emerged out of your transmitter and you snapped out of your daze. Cere Junda, what a surprise. The last time you heard from her you were just starting out at the Rebel base on Yavin and your memory was wiped. Cere reminded you a lot of a mother, she was there for you when your own wasn’t.
But then you were confused all of a sudden, Cal was with Trilla Suduri? Why?
“Why are they looking for me?” You asked impatiently, looking around in fear they’d be behind you or were nearby.
“You’re a Jedi, they can sense your presence. (Y/N), we have a lot to talk about but you need to move now” Cere said in a stern voice.
“Where are you located?” You asked.
“Look behind you”.
Your head whipped around and in the distance, there was a ship hovering above the scrapyards, waiting for you.
“But- my friends-“ You stuttered.
“We’ve alerted them on the situation, don’t worry” Cere replied quickly.
You started fleeting towards the ship, unsheathing the lightsaber to avoid any accidents as you hopped over and ducked under multiple mechanic parts. You knew you had to hurry, there was a storm coming and you heard the faint distant echo of a howling Tie fighter, two in fact.
Cere was standing on the open ramp of the ship, holding her arm out as much and as safely as she could, trying not to lose her balance as you finally got close enough and jumped up to grab her hand. Cere pulled you up with as much strength as possible, grunting and falling back on the ramp as she successfully pulled you up onto the ramp and helped you up and into the ship as quickly as she could.
“Captain, now!”
Your heart was racing, you clung on to your lightsaber as you got inside the ship and collapsed onto the floor. You hadn’t been inside a ship for days, it felt nice being away from the scrapyards.
You were covered in muck, your skin and hair dirty with grime and oil. Your clothes were muddy and dark, shades much more darker than what they used to be before you started the mission. You smelled of metal, polish, oil, Earth, and rain. Not a very pleasant smell, but currently you were too bewildered to really care about yourself.
The ship dashed off into the sky and into hyperspace, not wasting a single moment. You stayed on the ground, holding your head with one hand and the other your lightsaber. Cere bent down and rested a comforting hand on your shoulder, her eyes showing worry as if she was a mother that was reunited with her long lost child.
“Are you alright?” Was her approach, sitting down next to you on the ground and bending down to see your face. You swallowed the lump in your throat and looked up, happiness filling your heart once your eyes met the familiar warm cocoa ones that belonged to your old friend.
“Yeah... I’m okay” You breathed out, your chest still heaving up and down. You looked around the ship curiously, feeling a bit out of place compared to the clean spotless environment of the ship you were currently in.
“Sorry for catching you so off guard, we couldn’t risk being spotted by the Inquisitors” Cere reasoned, looking over to the cockpit to see a Latero male making his way over, a pair of his arms crossed whereas the other were down at his sides.
“Whatever you do, please do not sit on the sofa, takes ages trying to get oil staines out of it” The Latora said in a not so welcoming yet not so threatening voice. You didn’t feel intimidated by him, you just simply nodded and hesitantly raised a hand out for him to shake, might as well make a good first impression.
“I’m (Y/N)” You mumbled, smiling at the Latora who rolled his eyes and shook your hand firmly with one of his free hands, smiling back since you’d made an effort to introduce yourself to him.
“Greez Dritus” He replied, letting your hand go and walking back to the cockpit so he could get the ship out of hyperspace. You looked back to Cere once Greez was out of sight and wasted no time to bring her into a tight embrace, your head buried in her neck. Cere chuckled at your sudden show of affection and hugged you back, stroking your damp hair and closing her eyes, enjoying the moment. She hadn’t been hugged in so long, it felt almost foreign to her.
“It’s relieving to have a friendly face around again” You smiled, pulling away from her and earning yourself a smile in return as Cere nodded in agreement.
“Certainly is. Now, I need to speak with you about that lightsaber” Cere looked down at your left hand, looking almost reluctant as you raised it up and nodded your head.
“Where did you find it?” She asked curiously, you crossed your legs and your boots squeaked against the metal flooring of the ship. You held the lightsaber in both of your hands and sighed.
“It all happened to fast Cere, I- there was a light, and when I touched it I saw a vision, a vision of me as a Jedi. None of this makes sense, I don’t even remember anything about my childhood- I’m scared, Cere” Your voice cracked but you weren’t emotional, you were just frightened. Your childhood was a fragment of your memory that had always been missing. You never had a mother or father, or siblings or grandparents. You didn’t even remember your friends.
Cere looked at you for a brief moment as if she was trying to understand what was going on in your head, she pursed her lips and opened her mouth to speak up, but you could sense the reluctance and you saw how hesitant she was in what she was about to say.
“I think it’s about time you knew... when the Purge was executed, your Master Shaak Ti, removed your memory and raced them with false ones, then put you in my care. She wanted you to be safe, she felt as though she couldn’t protect you and it seemed to be the only option. I’m sorry you had to find out this way, (Y/N)” Cere said with pity in her voice. Her words echoed in your mind and you stared off into the distance with your eyebrows furrowed and mouth open slightly.
“So my mother being a mechanic... was lies? M-my father as well?” You stuttered nervously, hands shaking and eyes pricking with tears as you looked at Cere, desperate for an answer.
“That was true, but the mother you remember wasn’t your real one. Your real mother died in childbirth and the woman you do remember brought you up as her own. As for your father, he died long before you were born” Cere answered truthfully, her eyes held sympathy for you but you weren’t sure if you wanted it or not. Your heart felt so heavy, you needed to clear your head.
“This is a lot” You sighed, rubbing your temple and trying to calm the ache developing in your head.
“It would be best if you tried meditating, connect to the past” Cere suggested, taking your hand and standing up. You followed her actions and wobbled onto your feet, like a newborn Bantha taking It’s first steps. Cere lead you to the back of the ship where you guessed the rooms were. You were lead to the back one where a small single bed sat as well as a cabinet and lamp.
“I know it’s not much, but it’s better than sleeping in those scrapyards I hope” Cere joked, you smiled at her and nodded before sitting down on the surprisingly comfortable bed and shuffling around on it to get comfy.
“So... how do I do it?” You asked cluelessly, placing your lightsaber down on the cabinet and away from reach so it wouldn’t accidentally end up igniting and hurting someone. Cere sat down next to you and told you to cross your legs, you removed your boots and done as she said.
“Listen to me carefully, remember, this is your first time so if you don’t get it right, that’s completely okay” Cere assured you kindly, making you feel slightly better as your hands rested on your knees and you listened to her every word.
“Close your eyes” You done as she said, inhaling deeply and letting your lids shut over until everything was black.
“Now... try and clear your thoughts; push out both negative and positive emotions, keep your head in a neutral mindset” You were clinging on to her every word, doing as she said with great caution and taking spaced out breaths to help with clearing your head.
You done as Cere asked and blocked both negative and positive so your mind was almost blank, the only thing existing inside of it was your wandering conscience.
“Good, now, open your mind and reach out to the force” Cere almost felt like she herself was meditating as she called out the instructions to you, her heart calm and head clear as she watched you try your best.
You thought she was crazy for a second, but then you remembered that in order to get to your past you had to do this. You had to reach out
Your mind was clear and you tried stretching it out in hopes you’d feel something. A strange aura surrounded you and you felt like the room was completely empty. No cere, not even you. You didn’t feel like you were in the room anymore. You felt like you were floating in space, your body light weight as you drifted off to wherever the force took you. You accomplished reaching out to it, now you had to find what you were eager to know.
You opened your eyes to find that you weren’t in front of Cere anymore or even on the ship. You were a current conscience in your head and you somehow managed to wake up in a strange realm of the force where mostly everything was white and unrecognisable. Your surroundings were blank, but you weren’t physically there, you knew this place had a purpose.
Looking around, you spotted multiple purple hues like the ones from earlier, surrounding you at all angles and hovering abode nothing as they awaited your eager hands. You walked over to the closest one, crouching down and trustfully slipping your hand into the hue, closing your eyes and feeling yourself be taken to a new time period.
You were suddenly on the ground, eyes still closed but a bright light was shining down on you. It felt like you were on a padded ground, slightly cushioned but not enough to bounce on. You pulled yourself up, opening your eyes and noticing you were im completely different attire. You were in Jedi robes, your hair was shorter and a small plait trailed down your left shoulder.
“Try again Padawan, your emotions will get in the way of many things, do not let it stop you by filling your head with doubt” You looked up to see a platform much more high up than you currently were. A tall Togrota woman dressed in beautiful orange toned robes stood on the edge and watched you with a calm, serene expression.
“Yes master” You said, your voice more squeaky than you remembered.
The wall shifted and created a complex obstacle course for you to complete, consisting of wall runs, wall climbs, double jumps and lots of upper strength. A sudden rush of determination came over you and you sprinted towards a levitating platform that lead to a wall run. You skidded a bit on the wall but managed to grab onto the next platform in time, or else you’d be falling to the ground and meet a fairly unpleasant injury. Pulling yourself up, you caught your breath before running as fast as you can to a railing on the side of another levitating platform. This time it was on its side, hovering up and down which made it a bit more tricky to grab onto it.
“Very good, Padawan” Shaak Ti praised, not yet congratulating you as she watched your small form clumsily glide through the obstacle course. You scurried up the railing and onto the top of the platform, huffing out short breaths as your face flushed with exhaustion, but you weren’t finished yet.
As you got onto the top of the platform, you noticed Master Plo Koon had arrived with his team of clones, the Wolffepack. Just as you were about to get excited, Shaak Ti waved out a platform for you to dodge and overcome.
“Concentrate, Padawan” She scolded in a warning tone, placing her hand down behind her back once more and consulting with Plo who watched you with interest, hoping you’d do well on your course. The clones watched as well with wide eyes as you ran across a few more walls and clambered up and double jumped a few platforms. You were visibly worn out, but Shaak could feel the energy in you. She admired it greatly and decided to outdraw the course a little bit longer to see if you could take what she could give you.
“Final assessment, Young Padawan” Shaak announced, watching you intently as she programmed more obstacles to appear from the floor and walls, even the ceilings. At the corner of your eye, you noticed that Commander Wolffe had dropped to one knee and aimed his blaster at you. Quickly, you grabbed your lightsaber and ignited it, balancing on a thin platform and smiling to him as you dodged each and every one of his hits. Wolffe stopped firing and aimed his gun up to avoid shooting anyone. He took his helmet off, looking almost like a proud father as you bowed to him and giggled.
The Wolffepack were proud that their little Padawan had come so far, it was as if only yesterday they met you as a 11 year old. Now, at 15, you were the strongest Padawan they knew and they were honoured to fight by your side.
“Not bad kid!” Wolffe exclaimed, his scarred eye winking and making you chuckle as the platforms formed to make a pathway for you to join your master and Plo at the top. You practically skipped up the way, excited at your accomplishment and walking to your master, a soft yet proud smile on her face.
“Well done, (Y/N), I am so pleased with your progress” Shaak spoke, cupping your cheek with her red hand and moving it to pat your shoulder gently.
“Congrats kid! We knew you’d smash it” Wolffe raised his hand up and you were quick to smash your own against it. The Wolffe pack surrounded you, congratulating you on your achievement and patting your back roughly. It wasn’t gentle as your masters but you didn’t mind, they were considered your family after all.
“Come on kid, let’s celebrate!”.
