Beasts of the Briar series by Elizabeth Helen

The series isn't completely done, in fact the third book came out today! It's a why choose fantasy beauty and the beast retelling and I'm obsessed with it.

The Right Move by Liz Tomforde

Ryan Shay is the ultimate cutie patootie book boyfriend. This book is a fake dating romance. It absolutely delighted me! There are two others connected with this one but they aren't necessary to read and this is the best one.

Corrupted By You by Marzy Opal

Arranged marriage mafia romance 😍🥵 need I say more??? I rated this book 5 stars. Zeno Gianni De La Croix is my mafia boss book husband and everyone better put some respect on his name. There is a religious element in the smut which I typically don't like but this book made it work. I know I have only talked about the sexiness of this book but I did like the plot as well lol

Master of Salt and Bones by Keri Lake

The entire time I read this book I couldn't tell if the main male character was actually bad/morally grey or not. The setting of this book felt like one of the characters. I don't remember all of the plot but I am including it on this list for the feelings alone.

The Librarian of Souls by Ash Raven

I went into this book thinking I was going to have a good time reading smutty scenarios with the sandman. But I finished the book in love with the characters, the world in which they live and the setting. The plot was a little easy to figure out in parts but I really, really enjoyed it. I genuinely think about this book every few days.

Yes, I have a tiny list.

Pucking Around by Emily Rath. DNF'd because of normalizing abuse. I wanted to like it because why choose/hockey romance!!!!

The Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros. DNF'd because it felt like a culmination of the most popular books in the mid2000s and not in a good way. I kept wanting to like it but I was bored and I pushed myself further than I normally do when I think I'm going to dnf a book. I wanted to like it because I like fantasy books.

Credence by Penelope Douglas. It's saying something when the worst part about a book isn't the incest. This book romanticized abuse, specifically domestic abuse. I love a good taboo romance but this wasn't it.

Chapter 13: Light (Section 8)

(All text is under cut for spoilers)

After returning home safely to Lycia, Eliwood inherited the title of Marquess Pherae. His life shifted immediately from war to politics. His work often left him exhausted, but Ninian was always by his side to support him.

They have a son named Roy, who will one day fight in a war that will once again shake the continent of Elibe. 

Hector became Marquess Ostia after Uther's sudden death. Though his grief over the loss of his brother and the pressure he was under as marquess of Lycia's main house weighed heavily on him, with his beloved Florina cheering him on, he grew to become an even greater marquess than his brother. 

Lyn tended to her grandfather's bedside until his death, then abdicated rule of Caelin to Ostia, and left on a journey to Sacae. There, she reunited with and married Rath, son of the Kutolah Tribe's chieftain. They are raising their daughter in comfort with the blessings of nature.

Marcus and Merlinus became fast friends, and continued to serve Eliwood. Marcus became the combat instructor for Pherae’s noble family, while Merlinus managed their finances. Both became widely-known as loyal retainers of House Pherae.

Isadora returned to her post as Eleanora’s guard. Lowen completed the ceremony to become a full-fledged knight. Rebecca also became a formal retainer of Pherae, and later, at the request of the marquess and his wife, became their son's wet nurse.

Oswin became Hector's strategist, and Matthew continued to serve Ostia alongside him as a spy. Serra was busy for a time broadening her personal endeavors, but lately, she once again seems to have more free time than she knows what to do with.

After Caelin's territory was placed under Ostia’s rule, Kent served as its steward. His partner Sain resigned and traveled the continent as a free knight. Wherever each of them went, the two remained close friends. Wil returned to his post as a knight, and continued to demonstrate the full extent of his archery skills.

Noblewoman Priscilla and mercenary Guy fell in love, but he attempted to give up pursuing her due to the gap in their social standing. However, her tears made him resolve to elope instead. Her smile when she took his hand was the most brilliant of all her smiles across her entire life.

When Raven confessed everything to Hector, the marquess offered to have his territory reinstated. However, Raven rejected the proposal, and returned with Lucius to his carefree life as a mercenary. Lucius felt overwhelming happiness at the expression on his lord’s face when Raven became free of the weight upon his heart.

Nino and Jaffar were wed after the war. They were blessed with twin boys and lived happily, but when they were found by bounty hunters pursuing the remaining members of the Black Fang, their whereabouts became unknown.

After Athos' passing, Pent stepped down as mage general, and continued the research the archsage left unfinished. Doing so caused an uproar, but he did so completely carefree, in the names of his wife and future children.

Erk was next in line to become mage general after Pent retired, but he declined. He gave his life to magic research alongside his teacher.

Dorcas used his pay to buy the medicine his wife needed, and returned home to her. Bartre set out on a journey wandering the continent to become a true warrior. According to rumor, he fell in love with and married his own arch-enemy.

After the battle, Legault traveled around each country in search of the lost remaining members of the Black Fang, and pointed them towards new paths in life. Everything he did, was all in the name of the friends he had lost…

And so, the fight against Nergal ended without it ever having to cross the center stage of the continent of Elibe.

At Bramimond’s order, Hector and Eliwood sealed away both Durandal and Armads. Bramimond also once again sealed away all of the other remaining Legendary Weapons across the continent.

They wished that none would ever have to use their power again, too great for human hands…

But they did not remember at the time of Athos' foretelling during the final battle of a bad omen…

New lore for MCU (metallic crimson universe) where I decided to have Rebecca Catalina be a musician aka a trumpet girl because i think thats peak Catalina content. Anyway she and Kimblee back when they were stationed in the same HQ together (first two ish years post Ishval) were assigned in charge of the Central City Military Marching Band. Nobody wanted to do it so they gave it to the rookies. Kimblee was in hell. Catalina was trying to get with the clarinet players. The Saxophone player specifically wanted to end them. Honestly two international scandals happened because of Kimblee’s choice in repertoire (done on purpose so theyd assign him away from this monstrocity). This was part of the reason why they transferred Catalina to the East.

Why was Kimblee assigned to this in the first place? Yeah Maes Hughes is a spiteful son of a bitch sometimes you know, and Kimblee really fucked him up by killing those people and then destroying his not a piano-piano in the Psych Eval flashback chapter. Maes was like OH YOUD RATHED PLAY MUSIC THAN REPORT IN ON TIME? HAVE I GOT THE PERFECT REMEDY FOR YOU

Cut to Kimblee doing everything in his power to get fired from the marching band. He doesnt even play a marching band instrument. Hes just here for organisational purposes and he hates it.

Cut to the marching band, per Kimblees explicit instructions, playing the Old Amestrian Anthem* in front of the Ishval War veterans and the Fuhrer President.

*in my head after the civil war they changed the anthem to get rid of any aspect of Ishval from it. Meanwhile the old one has a whole block with their melody. Like in my head the Anthem holds inside it 5 blocks like for each section of Amestris , Central, South, North, West, East and in the Eastern part the music is very Ishval coded to reflect each part of the country its a bit of a mishmash but the text is all like Glory to our Green Dragon, May the Fuhrer reign forever etc etc Might of Amestris supreme.

Anyway after the Ishval Civil War they changed the Eastern part to get rid of any traces of Ishvalan influence.

Well Kimblee fucking hates being in the marching band. So he instructed the marching band to play the Old One. Why did everyone follow along? Well they fucking hate Kimblee being in the marching band with them too. So they would be happy to say he threatened them with alchemical violence.

Anyway its Amestris Day. All of the Ishval veterans are present in Central City. The Fuhrer is there.

They play the Anthem normally. First the Central portion. Then they go straight to the East one which is already controversial but ya know a lot of the Ishvalan war vets are from the East so it might be an homage- no - no that is not an homage that is Ishvalan music that is not an HOMAGE AT ALL WHAT DO YOU THINK YOURE DOING CUT THAT OUT RIGHT NOW SECURITY ARREST THESE TRAITORS

But we didnt know Fuhrer President. We didnt get the new anthem at all :((( this isnt our fault. Blame the Marching Band Conductor aka Kimblee.

Meanwhile Kimblee is like: My fellow officers, this should be all the proof you need to see that I am not made for this job. I thought that WAS the old anthem :)

Chapter 12: Cog of Destiny (Section 6)

“I can see it now…! That's the Shrine of Seals!" Eliwood said when the building they'd been looking for came into his view.

The shrine was white and enshrined in a flat plain surrounded by steep mountains. Though the terrain was difficult to traverse, the building appeared to be meticulously maintained, and glittered in the sunlight even from a distance.

Relying on the letter Queen Hellene had given to them, Eliwood's army set out for the Shrine of Seals, and had just now finally arrived at their destination.

This was the path to defeating Nergal. After all this time, they'd made it to the place Athos directed them to.

"Well this is anticlimactic! At this rate, we're going to finish things here without running into anyone." Hector mused.

"...Unfortunately, I don't think that is going to be the case." Lyn frowned and shifted into a battle stance.

"What?!" Hector put a hand on Wolf Beil and looked around.

In response, a single man clad in black appeared from the shadows of one of the shrine's pillars.

"The Fang… never lets anyone escape!"

It was the last of the Black Fang's prided Four Fangs, Lloyd Reed, the "White Wolf.”

After vowing to avenge his brother, he had come here to wait for Eliwood. Behind him were the ten remaining members of the Black Fang he'd brought along with him…

Befitting of his nickname, Lloyd's gaze on Eliwood and his allies was as sharp as a wolf's. "I am here to avenge Linus… Bring out Eliwood to me!"

"How dare you speak to me like that! I'm not gonna…"

"Wait, Hector!" Eliwood held back the enraged Hector and stepped up to Lloyd.

They had not killed Linus. But no matter how Eliwood might assert that claim, he couldn’t imagine the man in front of him would believe him. And he felt that rather than vengeance, Lloyd had actually appeared to close the final curtain on the Black Fang and its history.

"So we finally meet."

"Is it really… impossible for us to talk this over?"

Lloyd drew the sword at his waist and pointed the tip at Eliwood's throat. "Yes. It is already far too late for that." He said.

"Lloyd Reed, son of Brendan, leader of the Black Fang… I challenge you!”

With those words, everyone present lunged at the same time to attack.

This battle taking place in front of the Shrine of Seals would be the last against the Black Fang.

The enemies Eliwood's army were up against were quite literally throwing away their lives, and they fought frantically against them.

Oswin, Marcus, and the other cavaliers and knights formed an unbreakable frontline, flanked and supported by the agile mercenary, myrmidon, and fighters Raven, Guy, Dorcas, and Barter. On the rear line, the team of Rebecca, Wil, Rath, Lucius, and Erk all decisively shot their arrows and cast their spells to support their allies with ranged attacks.

As they marched in this perfected formation, they defeated each member of the group wearing black one after the other.

Each foe had been trained to be an assassin, excelling in one-on-one combat clashing face-to-face in broad daylight against a large army like Eliwood’s was nothing but reckless for them. Yet they did not falter as they swung their weapons.

But as the battle pressed on, Eliwood’s army maintained the upper hand.

Every time Kent and Sain thrust their lances, and Isadora and Lowen swung their swords, another, then another, of the men in black was added to the growing pile of corpses.

Spurts of blood soared through the air. Shrieking and screaming echoed all around them. The harsh sounds of weapons clashing shook the air all around the battlefield.

With the Black Fang losing members one after the other, the only person still left with energy in their voice was Lloyd.

"Attack! Show them our pride as Black Fang!!” He cheered on his allies as he wielded his Runesword.

It was a magic sword that siphoned people’s life force from within them. Upon taking a hit from it, both Bartre and Dorcas had no choice but to retreat. Even both Guy, aspiring swordsman of Sacae, and Raven, exceptionally skilled mercenary, were bested by Lloyd’s expertise with his sword, and had to flee to the rear line, where Serra and Priscilla were waiting for them.

Seeking his next prey, Lloyd was surveying his surroundings, when Eliwood came and stood before him.

“I will not allow you to cause any more harm to my allies!”

“That is exactly as I was thinking! I will defeat you, and put an end to this battle!" Lloyd answered while calming his ragged breathing. 

No matter which of them was defeated, both of them wanted this to end without seeing any more of their allies fall.

With the battle continuing behind them, both shifted into a battle stance, then swung their swords at the same time.

Whenever Lloyd swung his sword, Eliwood stepped to the side, and when Eliwood repeatedly targeted him with sharp thrusts, Lloyd turned his body to dodge them.

They exchanged which was on offense and which was on defense so many times that their movements mimicked the ebb and flow of the ocean’s waves.

Their blades met ten times, then twenty. Each time, it became clear that Eliwood’s movements were slowing down.

In skill alone, Lloyd was a far better fighter than Eliwood. However, before this exchange, he had crossed blades with many of Eliwood’s allies. Exhaustion was taking a heavy toll on his body. Because of that, Eliwood was able to match him.

Still, his Runesword was slowly stealing Eliwood’s energy. No matter how small each cut may be, the magical blade was leaving its mark on Eliwood’s body.

Eliwood endured his fatigue and exhaustion, putting all of his strength into his grip around his rapier.

'If nothing changes, he’ll kill me…!’ Eliwood’s mind raced as he desperately blocked Lloyd’s fierce attacks. He needed a way to defeat this man… But no matter how hard he tried to think of a good strategy, he could not come up with one. And Lloyd’s attacks were only becoming more ferocious.

“I promised Linus that I would bring back your dead body as a souvenir!” Lloyd said, and swung his magic sword once more.

He put his entire body into the attack, and when Eliwood tried to block it with his sword, he flew through the air and landed on his back.

Lloyd did not let the opportunity go to waste. To keep Eliwood from being able to move, he straddled over Eliwood’s body, then shifted to a backhanded grip on his sword, and thrust the blade down towards Eliwood's throat.

“Look out, Lord Eliwood!!” The moment she saw the danger Eliwood was in, Rebecca lost control of herself and instinctively shot an arrow.

It whizzed through the air, flying directly towards Lloyd. His sharp senses alerted him to its presence. In a split second, he knocked it to the ground, then glanced in the direction that it came from.

What he saw was a young woman who still had some childish features left on her face. The moment he laid his eyes on her, an image of his energetic step-sister appeared in the back of his head, and his mind overlapped their faces together.

Both her appearance and her hair color were similar to Nino, but what was most similar of all were their eyesnand the look of sheer determination in them. Nino's eyes always reflected how she tried to win Sonia's favor, no matter what danger that would put her in.

The thought only lingered in his head for a moment. But that moment cost him his life.

A single stream of blood trickled out of the corner of his mouth. It was caused by Eliwood’s rapier, stabbed into his side. When he realized what had happened, it was only for a moment, but a smile flashed across his face.

"...I've long waited for this time. Now… it has finally come…" He coughed up a pool of blood, then lost all of the strength in his body, and collapsed to the ground with a large crash.

Eliwood, having just barely managed to win such a close fight, stared at Lloyd's body in shock for a long moment.

Rebecca, the person to save Eliwood’s life, also sat down next to him, her adrenaline-filled nerves seeming to have snapped.

The battle was over.

All of the remaining members of the Black Fang had already been defeated by Eliwood's allies. This moment closed the curtain on the Black Fang's history. But in his heart, he did not feel the glory of victory. On the contrary, he felt hollow and lonely.

Neither side had wished to fight. If they'd met both Lloyd and Linus under different circumstances, Eliwood knew they would have become allies. 

He forced his exhausted body to stand up and turned again to face Lloyd's corpse, lying beside him. Then, he lifted his sword upwards to salute him. "...We held the utmost respect for you and your strength… May you… rest in peace…"

Hector and Lyn both rushed up to him, saw what he was doing, and copied him to also show their respect for those who had died in this battle.

A cold wind blew across the mountain plains.

As they each felt it hit them, each member of Eliwood's army felt as if the Black Fang were the same as any of their other allies, strengthening the intensity of their hatred for Nergal, who had used the Black Fang as nothing more than a tool to fulfill his own grand ambitions.
