Amar Singh Chamkila Movie Review ft. Diljit Dosanjh
The film Amar Singh Chamkila, directed by Imtiaz Ali and starring Diljit Dosanjh, has garnered significant attention and praise from various reviewers. The movie is a biographical drama that explores the life of Amar Singh Chamkila, a controversial and popular Punjabi singer of the 1980s, known for his raw and provocative lyrics. Here’s a comprehensive review based on popular sources:
Tumblr media
Plot and Direction Imtiaz Ali, known for his unique storytelling style, brings Chamkila's story to life with a blend of musical brilliance and poignant drama. According to Movierulz, the film serves as a real-world manifestation of Ali's earlier works like Rockstar and Tamasha, focusing on an artist whose desires and dissent shape his life and career. The narrative captures Chamkila's rise to fame, his struggles with societal norms, and his tragic end, all while maintaining a sense of authenticity and emotional depth.
Performances Diljit Dosanjh's portrayal of Chamkila is widely praised for its depth and authenticity. His performance captures the singer's innocence, determination, and complexity, making Chamkila's character both relatable and compelling. Parineeti Chopra, playing Chamkila's wife and musical partner Amarjot Kaur, also delivers a strong performance, portraying a blend of timidity and strength that adds to the film's emotional resonance.
Music The music, composed by A.R. Rahman, is a standout aspect of the film. The songs not only enhance the narrative but also reflect Chamkila's provocative style and the socio-political context of his time. Reviewers have noted that the music brings a concert-like experience to the film, making it a melodious yet tragic biopic. The soundtrack has been described as both nostalgic for older audiences and a fresh introduction to Chamkila's music for new viewers.
Tumblr media
Cinematography and Visuals The film's cinematography by Anil Mehta is another highlight, capturing the vibrant and tumultuous era of Punjab in the 1980s. The visual effects and setting contribute significantly to the storytelling, providing a vivid backdrop against which Chamkila's life unfolds. The editing by Aarti Bajaj, which includes a mix of archival footage and dramatized sequences, adds a dynamic rhythm to the film.
Critical Reception The film has received generally positive reviews, with particular praise for its direction, performances, and music. Gadgets 360 described the film as brilliantly capturing the spirit of Punjab, while Bollywood Hungama highlighted its stylish and entertaining narrative. Hindustan Times commended the film's honesty and outstanding music, noting that it feels like attending a live concert.
Ratings The ratings for Amar Singh Chamkila reflect its strong reception among critics and audiences. The Movie Blog rated it an overall 7.3/10, appreciating the acting, cinematography, and thematic elements but noting that the plot and rewatchability could be improved. This rating aligns with the general consensus that while the film has minor flaws, it is a compelling and well-crafted biopic.
Conclusion Amar Singh Chamkila is a compelling film that successfully brings to life the story of one of Punjab's most controversial and beloved singers. Through strong performances, evocative music, and thoughtful direction, the film not only tells Chamkila's story but also captures the cultural and social dynamics of his time. Despite some criticisms regarding pacing and plot development, the film stands out as a significant achievement in contemporary Indian cinema, celebrating the legacy of a musical icon while addressing broader themes of identity, rebellion, and artistic expression.

Amar Singh Chamkila: An Insight into Modern Punjabi Music
Instagram: @thatguyanesejournalist Twitter: @TGJournalist
(SOME SPOILERS AHEAD IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED THE FILM)
Let’s talk about Imtiaz Ali’s Amar Singh Chamkila.
Tumblr media
A humble singer’s brash lyrics ignite fame and fury across Punjab as he grapples with soaring success and brutal criticism before his untimely death.
Tumblr media
I absolutely loved this film. As many have said before, Amar Singh Chamkila is really a comeback for Ali and shows he’s capable of much more than rom-coms. Returning to directing after four years, Ali does a remarkable job of bringing Chamkila’s story to life without overdramatizing anything, a trait commonly seen in many Indian biographical films. Amar Singh Chamkila feels so authentic in a sense that it feels like I’m living through the story during real time.
I think one reason I felt like that was because of the number of times real footage appeared throughout the film from the time the real Chamkila and Amarjot were alive. I found myself constantly pausing and looking at how accurately Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti reenacted their real life counterparts based on the pictures and videos included in the film.
Tumblr media
The narrative of the film, starting with the assassination of the couple, captures you from the first shot. Having the story told by people who were involved in Chamkila’s life in some way cements how much of an impact he made around him. I think the only gripe I had with the film was how minimal Gurmail (Chamkila’s first wife) was in the film, but I guess I shouldn’t attribute this to Ali’s’ directing and more to real-life Chamkila marrying Amarjot to keep the partnership alive while still being married to Gurmail. Which is another reason I loved this movie. Ali didn’t completely show Chamkila as a hero. He was, for lack of a better word, morally gray and just wanted to pursue music no matter what.
Tumblr media
One specific scene that impacted me a lot, though, was when Chamkila and Amarjot are on the funeral pyre and somebody takes pictures of their corpses. The film then interjects that scene with actual pictures of the dead couple taken from the same angle. It hit home for me that this was, in fact, a true story of a man who truly wanted to sing despite all the threats he was receiving. He loved his wife, to the point where his last words were about concern for Amarjot, who had been shot before his eyes (“Babbi, tenu ki hoya?”). But more importantly, Chamkila was a man who revolutionized modern Punjabi music in his short life.
Tumblr media
The dialogue, written by Imtiaz Ali and Sajid Ali, stayed true to the Punjabi language. While most of the film was in Hindi, the parts where Diljit and Parineeti were singing Chamkila’s Punjabi songs and it was translated in Hindi on screen was a genius idea to people who may not be familiar with the language. However I did see a lot of discourse about Parineeti not having a lot of dialogue in the film. On further research, though, I found that it was purely in-character for Parineeti not to talk so much, since Amarjot wasn’t a talkative individual anyway.
Tumblr media
A.R. Rehman, the genius that he is, composed the music for this film. The soundtrack itself was described to be very Broadway-esque, which is the vibe I immediately got, especially with Baaja. The lyrics, by Irshad Kamil, are so poetic (as seen in Vida Karo) and even subtly include double-entendres just like Chamkila without making the songs dirty or cheap (as seen in Naram Kalja). Sidenote: it was so nice to hear Mohit Chauhan’s voice again, especially after not hearing him in many mainstream Bollywood movies anymore.
Also, I would just like to say that Alka Yagnik and Richa Sharma are the highlights of the soundtrack. ARR is possibly the only person who can make Alka sing like that for “Naram Kalja” and I honestly appreciate how fresh she sounds and how the soundtrack in general adapted to our modern times while using traditional instruments in some form. Here’s my list of songs:
Naram Kalja Vida Karo Ishq Mitaye
Also, here’s a Chamkila and Amarjot song I enjoyed that was included in the movie:
Pehle Lalkare Naal
Tumblr media
The movie is 146 minutes long (2 hours and 26 minutes). Stream it on Netflix, grab a snack and enjoy!
Do you agree or disagree? Let me know in the comments!

Tributes to renowned Urdu poet and Hindi film lyricist Naqsh Lyallpuri, on his 2nd death anniversary today. Poet-lyricist Naqsh Lyallpuri, who passed away on this day in 2017, wrote a select bunch of unforgettable songs that are hummed to this day. The poet was born as Jaswant Rai in the town of Lyallpur in the part of Punjab now in Pakistan. He came to Mumbai in the late 1940s to make a career in Hindi cinema. Though he got his first break in 1952 as a song writer with the song "Agar Teri Aakhon Se Aakhein Mila Doon" in the film Jaggu, real success eluded him till the early 1970s. He also worked with the postal department for some time to make ends meet during his early days in Mumbai. Having had to compete with the Sahirs, the Hasrats and the Shailendras in the early part of his career and the Gulzars and the Majroohs in the later part, Lyallpuri had to settle for the odd number or two in albums of leading music directors. And due to the strong competition, he was forced to concentrate on ‘B-grade’ films and, later, Punjabi cinema. Over the years, he collaborated with some top film directors, musicians, and singers, penning soft melodies, romantic numbers and emotional songs that touched the hearts of millions. Some of his best songs include: “Main To Har Mod Par Tujhko Doonga Sada” (Chetana), “Teri Awaaz Ki Jaadugiri Se” (Teri Talash Mein), “Pyar Ka Dard Hai” (Dard), “Chitthiye Ni” (Henna), “Maana Teri Nazar Mein Tera Pyar Hum Nahi" (Ahista Ahista), “Yeh Wahi Geet Hai Jisko Maine” (Man Jaiye), “Har Janam Mein Hamara Milan (Kagaz Ki Naao), “Tumhein Dekhti Hoon” (Tumhare Liye), “Yeh Mulakaat Ik Bahana Hai” (Khandaan), “Chori Chori Koi Aaye” (Noorie), “Na Jane Kya Hua Jo Tu Ne Chhoo Liya” (Dard), “Ulfat Mein Zamane Ki” (Call Girl), “Rasm-E-Ulfat Ko Nibhaye” (Dil ki Rahein) “Apni Aankhon Mein Basaa Kar” (Thokar), “Tumhein Ho Na Ho” (Gharonda), “Do Deewane Shaher Mein” (Gharonda), “Chandni Raat Mein” (Dil-E-Nadan) and “Teri Talash Mein” (Teri Talash Mein”). Saddened by later-day demands to infuse what he felt were “crude” lyrics for songs, Lyallpuri retired from Hindi film industry in the late 1990s and penned songs for television. He made a brief comeback in 2005 penning songs for the films Taj Mahal: An Eternal Love Story (2005) with Naushad and Yatra (2006) with Khayyam. May the noble soul of this genius shaayar rest in eternal peace.

The controversy of Emiway with Raftaar got very famous and Emiway songs on the truth of Raftaar got very famous and people loved his voice and writing skills so much that he becomes from no one to the famous rappers of India whose uploaded songs on Youtube the online video uploading platform became famous and commercially successful.
What is Hip Hop Music And How It Is  Getting Presented To Audience.
Rapping is a collection of words and rhyming and delivered in a way like poetry on music beats. Hip Hop Music Or Rapping is the motivational or Storytelling type of music. In motivational rapping, the rapper writes the lyrics in a way that motivates the listener and in storytelling, the Rapper depicts his real story of struggle and things that happened in his struggle time. Basically, the Hip Hop Music or Rap Music is known for the different level of entertainment touch in the Music industry.
The harsh reality of hip hop music his that some artists are using the Rapping music to insult other artists which looks cool but deep inside everyone knows that it is a misuse of music and its somehow affecting the Music Industry in a bad way.
The two incidents happened in India one when the Mafia Munder got split and Raftar made the track for Yo Yo Honey Singh and after that, the incident happened recently when Emiway Bantai made this track for Raftaar, both got famous but they polluted the hip hop music in many ways and many peoples too.
My opinion on the Rapping Music Industry is that Rapping should be used to entertain people in a positive way and to motivate their strength and mood instead of insulting other with the help of it and becoming famous because it  is  affecting the Music Industry and the thinking of the listeners in a bad way.
Thank you for reading the topic, I hope you are satisfied with the detailing of the rap music Industry and have enjoyed reading whole information about hip hop music Industry.
Want to tell you about other singer  who has also the ability to become a good singer.

The Role of Social Media in Kaka’s Success
In the vibrant world of Punjabi music, where melodies resonate deeply with culture and tradition, a name that has emerged as a symbol of authenticity and perseverance is Kaka. Born as Ravinder Singh in a small village in Patiala, Punjab, Kaka’s journey is a story of resilience, passion, and unrelenting determination. Despite humble beginnings and numerous challenges, he rose to prominence with his unique voice, heartfelt lyrics, and relatable storytelling. Today, Kaka stands as an inspiration to millions, showcasing how talent, hard work, and a genuine connection with the audience can pave the way to remarkable success.
Early Life and Struggles
Kaka’s story begins in Chandu Majra, a small village in Patiala, Punjab. Born on April 5, 1994, into an economically modest family, he grew up witnessing his father, Raj, work as a mason. Kaka himself often assisted in construction work to support the family’s income. Despite these hardships, Kaka’s passion for education never wavered. He pursued a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering and later earned a B.Tech degree in the same field.
While many would have settled for a stable engineering career, Kaka’s heart was elsewhere. Music had been his companion since childhood, a creative outlet that allowed him to dream beyond his immediate surroundings. However, pursuing this passion was not easy. Limited resources meant limited opportunities to produce and promote his music, yet Kaka refused to let these obstacles define him.
The Leap into Music
Kaka’s entry into the Punjabi music industry was not marked by immediate success. In 2019, he uploaded his debut song, Scene 4, on YouTube. Although the song did not gain significant attention and was later deleted, it served as a stepping stone. Undeterred, Kaka continued honing his craft, pouring his life experiences into his lyrics.
In 2020, the tides began to turn with the release of Keh Len De, a song that resonated deeply with listeners. Its raw emotion and simplicity struck a chord, quickly making Kaka a household name in Punjab and beyond. This song was not just a commercial success; it was a personal milestone that validated years of struggle and dedication.
Rise to Fame
Following the success of Keh Len De, Kaka released a series of hit songs, including Libaas, Temporary Pyar, and Teeji Seat. Each of these tracks showcased his ability to tell stories that were deeply personal yet universally relatable. Themes of love, heartbreak, and societal pressures dominated his lyrics, creating a connection with listeners who saw their own lives reflected in his songs.
Kaka’s distinct voice — gritty, soulful, and authentic — set him apart from his contemporaries. Unlike many artists who rely on commercial gimmicks, Kaka’s music remained true to his roots. His songs often addressed real-life struggles, making him a voice for the common man.
Authenticity as a Cornerstone
What makes Kaka stand out in the Punjabi music industry is his authenticity. Whether it’s his lyrics, his voice, or his demeanor, everything about him feels genuine. This authenticity extends to his interactions with fans on social media. Kaka often shares snippets of his creative process, engages with his audience, and expresses gratitude for their support. This two-way relationship has helped him build a loyal fanbase that goes beyond geographical boundaries.
Kaka’s journey also reflects his deep understanding of cultural and societal issues. Songs like Libaas explore themes of love and acceptance, while tracks like Mitti De Tibbe celebrate Punjab’s rich heritage. His ability to balance modernity with tradition has made him a favorite among diverse audiences.
Challenges and Perseverance
Despite his success, Kaka has faced his share of challenges. Financial limitations in the early stages of his career, skepticism from those around him, and the competitive nature of the music industry were all obstacles he had to overcome. However, these challenges only fueled his determination. Instead of compromising his vision to fit industry standards, Kaka chose to carve his own path.
Lessons from Kaka’s Journey
Kaka’s rise to fame is a testament to the power of resilience and self-belief. His story serves as a reminder that success is not just about talent but also about persistence, strategic planning, and staying true to one’s values. For aspiring artists, Kaka’s journey offers valuable lessons: embrace your roots, connect with your audience, and never let setbacks deter you from your goals.
Conclusion
From a small village in Punjab to the global stage, Kaka’s journey is nothing short of extraordinary. His life is a beacon of hope for anyone who dreams of making it big against all odds. By staying authentic and relatable, he has not only achieved personal success but also inspired countless others to follow their passion.
If you haven’t yet experienced Kaka’s soulful music, now is the time to dive into his world. Start with his popular tracks like Keh Len De, Libaas, or his latest release, Mitti De Tibbe. Let his heartfelt lyrics and melodious tunes remind you of the beauty of authenticity and the power of dreams. Share your favorite Kaka song and join the conversation about this phenomenal artist!

Punjab by Gurdas Maan
Tumblr media
What an amazing video and the concept of taking Bhagat singh into the future was a really good. Its actually made people think if Bhagat singh would have known that what will happen in his Punjab, had he still sacrificed his life for the country. I had no words when he was about to erase ‘Shaheed’ from his name in the video, what a spine chilling scene it was.
Listening to the lyrics one can easily feel the pain in the writings of Gurdas Maan. But one question in the back of my mind which has been hitting me was why he did not released the video during the high time of elections, Why!? I know a lot of people have been coming out with the arguments that “Please stop associating Gurdas Maan with politics” & “Why people think that if he released the song before elections it would have changed peoples minds to vote?”. I fully understand that thinking peoples vote will be changed with his song is absurd.  Here’s what I have been thinking from past couple of months. To me its not about changing peoples minds to vote but to take a stand against the crooks and bad things in Punjab. Gurdas Maan being one of the most influential Punjabi artists whose words catch attention of almost all the Punjabi. From the past couple of months deep inside myself and i believe there are many more like me, who were waiting for him to say something about whats been going on in Punjab. But it never happened. I am completely fine with that though because its his choice after all its his life. But I have been watching him since my childhood and I bet at least 2-3 generations of Punjab have grown up listening to his melodious songs about Punjab. Now releasing the song especially after elections does not make sense. To me it looks like playing smart and safe. Even if he stayed silent on this whole thing it would have been fine because then it would be considered well he does not want to engage himself in the politics which is fine as its his choice. Now there would always be this small thing bothering my mind that Gurdas Maan whom I have been following like a die hard fan missed the point in the history of Punjab when he could have stood tall against all the wrongs.
Here’s what I have learnt, I have always liked his poetry and hopefully i always will, but considering every artist to bring up a change in the society and standing with what they preach is not always the right expectation. And keeping expectations always hurts.
Some people are thinkers and some people are doers. So just listen to their songs and pay them for their art by buying it. That is it! nothing more.
But I sincerely do people of Punjab are aware of who took the stand, roared like a lion against all the odds and is the real keeper of Bhagat Singh’s legacy and spirit...
Jeonda vasda rahe saada Stoj vala Maan.

Jaani & B Praak: A Duo That Defined an Era
Jaani, a name synonymous with innovation and emotion in Punjabi music, has redefined the genre over the last decade. His rise from a small-town lyricist to one of the most celebrated names in Indian music is nothing short of phenomenal. With a gift for crafting lyrics that tug at the heartstrings, Jaani has created songs that resonate deeply with listeners across demographics. From chart-topping Punjabi hits to Bollywood blockbusters, his contribution to Indian music transcends boundaries and languages.
A Humble Beginning
Jaani was born as Rajvinder Singh in Gidderbaha, a small town in Punjab. Despite coming from modest beginnings, he harbored a passion for music and poetry from a young age. His love for language and storytelling became apparent in school, where he would pen down poems inspired by everyday life. Unlike many who let their dreams fade, Jaani took the bold step to pursue his passion.
His initial days in the music industry were marked by struggles. Entering an industry dominated by well-established artists, he faced skepticism and rejections. However, his relentless determination kept him going. He spent years honing his craft, writing countless verses, and absorbing the nuances of Punjabi music.
It was not until 2012 that he tasted his first brush with fame. Jaani collaborated with singer Hardy Sandhu for the song “Soch.” The track became an instant hit, not only for its soulful composition but also for its heartfelt lyrics. This success marked the beginning of Jaani’s journey as a lyricist who could bring raw emotion to life.
A Lyricist with a Unique Voice
Jaani’s lyrical style is a blend of simplicity, emotion, and relatability. His songs often explore universal themes such as love, heartbreak, longing, and hope, making them resonate with audiences across cultures. Unlike many lyricists who rely on flowery language, Jaani’s writing is straightforward yet poetic, capturing complex emotions in just a few lines.
One of the reasons Jaani’s music stands out is his ability to connect with listeners on a deeply personal level. His songs evoke emotions that feel authentic, drawing listeners into the narrative. Whether it’s the pain of unrequited love in “Mann Bharrya” or the joy of new beginnings in “Naah,” Jaani’s lyrics mirror real-life experiences.
Collaborations That Defined an Era
Jaani’s success cannot be discussed without mentioning his collaboration with composer and singer B Praak. Together, they have created some of the most iconic songs in Indian music. Tracks like “Filhall,” “Teri Mitti,” and “Qismat” are testaments to their synergy.
Their partnership is rooted in a shared vision to push the boundaries of Punjabi music. While B Praak’s powerful compositions and vocals add depth to the songs, Jaani’s lyrics provide the emotional core. This duo has consistently delivered hits that not only dominate the charts but also leave a lasting impression on listeners.
Additionally, Jaani has worked with other renowned artists like Arijit Singh, Hardy Sandhu, and Neha Kakkar. His ability to adapt his writing style to suit different voices and genres makes him a versatile lyricist. In Bollywood, his work on “Filhall” with Akshay Kumar brought him widespread recognition, further solidifying his position as a masterful storyteller.
Redefining Punjabi Music
Jaani has played a pivotal role in elevating Punjabi music to global prominence. His songs are not confined to the Punjabi-speaking audience; they have found fans across India and the world. With platforms like YouTube and Spotify, his music has reached listeners in countries like Canada, the UK, and the US, where the Punjabi diaspora holds a significant presence.
Jaani’s influence extends beyond just lyrics. He has helped reshape the perception of Punjabi music, making it more contemporary and appealing to younger audiences. His ability to weave traditional Punjabi themes with modern sounds has brought a fresh perspective to the genre.
Awards and Recognition
Jaani’s contribution to music has been recognized with numerous awards and accolades. From winning Best Lyricist awards at prestigious ceremonies to having his songs feature in blockbuster movies, his achievements reflect his unparalleled talent. Tracks like “Teri Mitti” have even become cultural landmarks, celebrated for their patriotic fervor.
Despite his success, Jaani remains humble and focused on his craft. He credits his fans and collaborators for his journey, often expressing gratitude for their support.
A Visionary for the Future
Jaani’s journey is far from over. As a visionary, he continues to experiment with new sounds and themes. He is also committed to mentoring emerging artists, offering them guidance and opportunities to shine in the competitive music industry. His work is paving the way for a new generation of lyricists and composers who aim to balance tradition with innovation.
Looking ahead, Jaani’s focus is not just on creating hits but also on crafting songs that leave a legacy. He believes in the power of music to heal, inspire, and connect people, and this belief drives his creative endeavors.
Conclusion
Jaani impact on Punjabi music is undeniable. His ability to capture the essence of human emotion through words has made him a household name. From his humble beginnings in Gidderbaha to becoming a global phenomenon, his journey is a testament to hard work, perseverance, and talent.
As fans, we are fortunate to witness Jaani’s evolution as an artist. With every new release, he continues to push the boundaries of what Punjabi music can achieve. His songs remind us that music is not just about melodies but also about the stories they tell.
If you haven’t explored Jaani’s discography yet, now is the time. Listen to his top hits on your favorite streaming platform and experience the magic of his lyrics. Whether you’re in the mood for romance, nostalgia, or inspiration, Jaani’s music has something for everyone.
