A Glimpse at the Films at the Tokyo Student Film Festival 2023

The 34th Tokyo Student Film Festival runs from August 18th to August 20th in Shibuya Eurolive. 21 films will be on offer plus a guest talk by Joe Odagiri. I just watched this Japanese movie called Re:Born and I just have so many questions. The main guy is Toshiro and I don’t remember the names of the other characters. 

Why are they portraying this man as if he is ninja?

Why would he leave his “niece” alone, when he knew people were after him? Yes, I understand that he was using her as bait to track them to their location, but if he really cared about her, he wouldn’t put her at risk. 

Why are the soldiers after him not using their weapons? There are so many scenes where he is completely surrounded and yet none of the soldiers take a shot at him. Naw, that is when they suddenly wanna fight him with a knife. They only take shots at him when he is in the distance. When he is right up on them, suddenly the guns become useless. 

This guy fought all of the movie and didn’t receive any injuries until the end. 

There is never a reason given why that main guy who put all of this together is after Toshiro . Maybe it’s revenge, I don’t know. I didn’t see a reason given. 

The fighter guy who is supposed to be the opposite of Toshiro is a complete mystery. He didn’t seem to be on any side. Seeing as he was hurting the same soldiers who are after Toshiro. So basically he is just killing anyone in his path. No reason is given why he is so cruel. No reason is given why both of these men are like this. 

What do the numbers mean that are tattooed on the girls wrist mean?

At the end Toshiro dies, but then in the next scene we see a man who appears like him, looking over at his niece in the distance. Don’t understand why he wouldn’t just go back to her, since he survived. Why let her think that the man who raised her is gone? 

How is it that these random men are able to look after this young girl. Where are the authorities? Why isn’t this young girl in the system. She clearly has strangers raising her. 

This is why I don’t like Japanese movies. Cause after watching the movie, I am left with more questions than I had before watching it. I am just left in a state of confusion and just wanna know why, how and what is going on. I also feel like I won’t be able to grasp the concept of the movie until I watch it for the third time.

what are some cases of 2dmvs having the same artist ? off the top of my head i remember the artist for teratera ( i THINK ) has done an mv for each group ?

yeah! that one was done by famous vocaloid artist Rella, who also did RAD DOGS, Kanade Tomosu Sora, Worldwide Wander, and Mr. Showtime. She also did the in-game Vocaloid MV for Just Be Friends. She's actually tied with another artist, Rozuki, for most MVs. Rozuki illustrated Jackpot Sad Girl, Nonsense Bungaku, Ifuudoudou (Fantasista Sqaud), IDSMILE, Goodbye Sengen, and Hitorinbo Envy.
