Landlines Raynor Winn I’m really looking forward to reading the new release from @raynor.winn as loved the two previous books, The Salt Path & The Wild Silence. The Salt Path was definitely one of the big reasons that I started my walking, especially around the local parks, canals and lakes. I have a dream of walking the South West Coastal Path some day. In part or in full. But Ray’s stories are more than that. They are a personal diary of two normal people who refused to be beaten by life’s obstacles and fears. Every celebration I get given books instead of things that aren’t needed. Also a bonus as I have a few road trips coming up now we’re allowed out! Ray and Moth lost everything, except their kids and each other. Moth was very ill. And in their fifthies they decided not to stay in misery and desperation. They chose to moving on, and literally keep moving. Both of them rather than stay in foster house, after lost their land and house, they determine to walking to the west, to Land’s End through South West Coast Path, along the Devon and Cornwall. Facing the harsh of the British weather ; gale, horizontal rain , also the mighty Atlantic wave. They camp wildly, lay down under the starry night, on the sandy cold beach, dip in to the Atlantic water, making tea while watching the sunrise and cooking rice with dandelion leaves. They are really endure to survive over 630 miles. This book touched me in the part which either Ray and Moth try to keep moving despite of giving up, keep in hope againts the despair. Moth is sick but keeping Ray in a good mood. Thirty two years of marriage is well proved. Other things about this story is the south west coast path is actually through the place where I live now and it is the famous trail along the south coastline through the spring to the autumn. The scene is magical and geological wise. In the chapter Light Salty Blackberry when Ray collected the blackberries, remained me the bunch of blackberries in the Autumn when I visited the Burgh Island, fresh, sweet and amazingly salty. Eventhoug I am not an outdoor person, Ray and Moth’s journey is tempting to try. The Salt Path by Raynor Winn

I chose this book  to read by searching the shortlisted Coast Biography Award list.

Every chapter I read it touched my heart deeply. The story  is about a woman, Raynor, at the time she learned that her husband, Moth, was terminally ill, they also lost their home due to poor investment performance results in their friends business.  Feeling hopelessly as homeless, the couple decided to walk South West Coast Path for 630 miles. Every time they faced cold, raining wether, empty stomach, it really sunk my heart.

But the at the end Moth did not gave up. He decided to apply for University and became a student again.  Even knowing he was dying, he did not give up living and he wanted to be able to teach his skills after university. 

One day I want to follow the same track path along South West Coast Path, from Somerset to Dorset, via Devon and Cornwall.
