Rather than focusing on the development of two or three main characters, it seems like Mahesh Bhatt wanted every character to have a backstory, ranging from a one-armed gangster Dilip Hathkaata (Gulshan Grover) to a corrupt police officer Rajesh (Mohan Kapoor).

Apart from the histrionic family drama, the pseudo satanic rituals portrayed in the movie were straight from the Greek tragedies, not to mention the dead wife’s ghost gracing her presence when Ravi was in trouble. No matter how interesting and watchable it sounds, the movie quickly went on the road of rack and ruin with its melodramatic elements including ‘maa ki aakhri icchaa’, ‘pehli nazar wala pyaar’, ‘paisa ka bhuka baap’, who would do anything, even killing his own daughter. The movie revolves around the lives of these characters, especially Aarya and Ravi, who form a deep father-daughter relationship with the progress of the film, as both of them had lost a loved one. Ravi (Sanjay Dutt), is suffering from an existential crisis and has developed a nihilistic attitude after losing his wife Pooja (Pooja Bhatt). Vishal/Munna (Aditya Roy Kapur), is Aarya’s boyfriend with a dark past of his own. Aarya (Alia Bhatt), is the leader of a community fighting against this imposter as she believes that her mother died because of him. The entire film has a dark and melancholic setting with Gyaan Prakash (Makarand Deshpande) a ‘fake baba’, luring people to him by asserting his connection with the divine. It seems that with the ongoing issues of nepotism, Sadak 2 with its star-kids had to bear the brunt. The overwhelmingly negative reviews that the film received within hours after its release was quite expected as its trailer had already become the second most disliked video on YouTube. The movie was released on 28 August 2020 on the OTT platform Disney+Hotstar. It seems like the writers Mahesh Bhatt and Suhrita Sengupta attempted to drive its audience onto the 90s road, but ended up somehow at a rehashed cul-de-sac. Sadak 2 with its most exciting star cast, from Sanjay Dutt, Alia Bhatt, Aditya Roy Kapur to Jisshu Sengupta and their commendable performances, went downhill due to its banal plotline and dramatic dialogues. The Kaisi Ye Yaariyaan fame actor also shared the announcement video with an excitement-filled caption that reads, "Announcement …and it had to be a Big one yes…Dreams do come true and presents GHUDCHADHI (sic).Sadak 2 now streaming on Disney+Hotstar Mahesh Bhatt’s first directorial venture since 1999 turns out, perhaps, to be his last, at least for some years to come now. Dutt shared the latest video via his official Instagram handle and mentioned in the caption that he is all set to bring the laughter, drama with a fun-packed movie. Mulla (Sanjana Dipu) travels to Mumbai in search of their brother who left Lakshadweep years previously. They end up, after escaping from an orphanage, in a slum ruled by Bhai (Nivin Pauly), a criminal and addict who also is from Lakshadweep. When Mulla runs afoul of him, they are roped into working for him.

TW for movie: human trafficking, suicide, ritualized self harm. Moothon is a tragedy. No one has a good ending, even Mulla. I really don’t want to put spoilers in the review, but I will put them in the tags because I just have to get some things off my chest. I did really love the gay love story between Akbar and Amir (Roshan Mathew) and how soft it was. I also enjoyed the side characters and how well written they were, even if they weren’t the main focus of the film. The kids were the best, especially how they befriended Mulla even with a languange barrier. Both Nivin Pauly and Sanjana Dipu are great as the main characters. Favorite song is Bikhre (audio with stills from movie, no subtitles).

Dinesh (Nivin Pauly) meets Shoba (Nayanthara) at his cousin’s wedding where his attempts to sabotage the groom leads to Shoba ending up in the hospital. After he apologizes to her, they become closer throughout the wedding, and Dinesh decides to follow her to Chennai on the pretext of getting an MBA. Dinesh worms his way into her group of friend and they fall in love, but Shoba discovers that Dinesh is not actually in school and just spends his days drinking and spending money.

Love Action Drama is a very silly romance that never really takes itself seriously at all. Even when events seem to be more dramatic, the film never treats them seriously. Even the big fight at the end in extremely silly. Favorite songs are Rathein (audio with transliterated Malayalam lyrics), Varavaayi, Aalolam, and Oru Swapnam Pole (audio with transliterated Malayalam lyrics).

On the first day, he meets Ava (Wamiqa Gabbi), a mysterious young woman also looking for the comet. Adam befriends Eva but soon discovers that she has a dark side.

9 is an interesting science fiction thriller that is really about the relationship between Adam and Albert. When focusing on Adam and Albert, the movie is good. When it veers into other stuff involving the comet, it gets a bit weird. As to whatever is up with Ava, I guess you can pick whichever explanation you like better for her existence. Favorite song is Akale (English subtitles).

Bollywood Movies Part CLXXXIV: The Mollywood Takeover Part XXVI

Jomon (Dulquer Salmaan) is the disappointment of his family because he constantly dodges responsibility. His father Vincent tries various ways to make Jomon responsible, including making him run a store, but none of them really work. When Vincent faces financial catastrophe, the rest of his children abandon him, but Jomon takes him in and learns how to adult. 

Jomonte Suviseshangal is a great movie about a father-son relationship that is also about growing up. I really enjoyed the family dynamics involving Jomon’s older siblings and their spouses, especially because Jomon is the baby of the family and is treated like it. Mukesh and Dulquer really make this movie work. Favorite songs are Poonkattey (no subtitles) and Neelakasham (English subtitles).

Aji Mathew (Dulquer Salmaan), is an ardent communist who falls in love with college student Sarah (Karthika Muralidharan). When she goes back to America, she learns her family has arranged her marriage. When Aji finds out, he decides to go to America to stop the wedding. As he can’t get a visa in time, he decides to illegally enter America from the Mexican border.

CIA: Comrade in America has some glaring plot holes and is a bit slow. However, it does have some good acting and amazing cinematography. The cinematography for the duration of the illegal border crossing is spectacular! There are some great comic bits, mostly involving Aji’s friends and family in Kerala. Favorite songs are Kannil Kannil and Vaanam Thilathilakkanu. Neither song has subtitles.

Irshad “Ichappi” (Amal Shah) and Haseeb (Govind P. Pai) train pigeons and compete with them in Mattancherry. Ichappi is held back in 9th grade, but develops more confidence for it. Meanwhile, the two discover that one of their prize pigeons was stolen by their rival Rauf (Shine Tom Chacko) and plot to get her back. When a group of drug addict return to Mattancherry, Ichappi remembers what happened when they first came that cause his brother Shane (Shane Nigam) and father (Siddique) to have a falling out.

Parava is a wonderful movie about two kids and their tenacity,as well as loss and family conflict. It also really highlights the ambience of Mattancherry. I especially enjoyed how all the characters felt fully fledged, even though we only got to see little snippets of the background characters. Dulquer Salmaan is wonderful in his extended cameo that actually underpins the whole movie. Amal Shah and Govind P. Pai are amazing in their debut roles. Favorite songs are Pakalin Vaathil and Ormakal. Neither song has subtitles.
