one thing about ans that really impressed me and that i found absolutely refreshing is like. how GOOD zen and his family are, for being royals. they love their kingdom and they will do EVERYTHING right by them, and it isn't just talk!!! usually in fantasy you'll see problems with the head of a monarchial system (or whatever system is in place), whether it's corrupted power or incompetently silly/ridiculous (hi raji), but zen and izana are genuinely invested in caring for their people and their land and sorata makes sure to prove it over and over again!!!! zen eats and trains with the soldiers and he sneaks out to regularly check on the citizens and EVERY single time status becomes a problem he immediately tries to chuck that shit out the window (see: marquis haruka and kiharu vs viscount blaker). izana manipulated two crooked lords out of their estates and returned all the unfair taxes they gave him. he quarantined lyrias because he trusted the word of shirayuki, a royal pharmacist, and that's what someone of his position should do (ie listen to the professionals that their subordinates hired in the first place)!!! he's set to marry a high-ranking academic authority out of love (i'm, like, pretty sure at least), because his kingdom is secure and healthy! people cheered when the crowned passed to izana from haruto!!! everyone in clarines is cared for and loved and they care for and love the wistarias right back!!! it's just so lovely and so impressive to see because you COULD make a really easy conflict out of how horrible the ruling family is, especially considering zen's and shirayuki's positions, but that's never been a problem at all!!!

In her dreams, when she closed her eyes, that horrific void returned, swallowed her up, drowned her, with none nearby to save her or even see her go.

Y'know the longer I think about it, the more I think "To me, Mizuki is just Mizuki" or whatever it is that Ena said was Also a thinly veiled way of her saying "Ok well you're still a girl". Like I think the most glaringly obvious, not-behind-a-curtain-in-the-slightest line was when she pointed directly at "So are you like a guy too?" and correctly described that statement as an insult, but surprisingly, that line that pissed me off so bad, that line that really annoying people with limited ability to read have been parroting since the game dropped, might... actually be goated? A little?

Like. I don't know. Ena spent her whole friendship with Mizuki up to this point correctly assuming she was a girl, all she had wrong was the "cis" modifier. (And Cis Modifier isn't necessarily something she consciously thought of, because of the whole cis privilege makes you assume cis as the default and thus that modifier fades into the background thing.) Additionally, a hot fucking minute passed between Mizu5 and Ena5, long enough for Ena to ruin her skin with tears for her dead wife... And during that hot fuckin minute, the Ena5 4koma took place, where she straight up drew a lost girl while stressing about Mizuki. That whole gap between the events and what took place in the gap is very special to me... because the Girl Drawing combined with the Accurately Recognizing The Transmisogynistic Bullying As Exactly That really helps to make clear that Ena was confronting her "cis as default" way of thinking, and not anything else. I don't think she questioned Mizuki's girlhood even once, aside from maybe thinking "what the fuck are they on about" during her run-in with the bullies in Mizu5

The US higher education system sounds much too toxically competitive for me (based on many, many conversations with fellow scholars and students), the experts I want to work with are not necessarily there, it's unlikely that I would write about a US-centric topic anyway, and in many European countries, a PhD is a job where you get paid a decent salary to be a researcher.

Rather than having one of those corporate-looking gym buildings perched on a mountain, Grusha's "gym" is located in a ski resort. Battles take place there, as does the gym challenge, but he lives in a Ranger cabin.

I think it's a common hc that Grusha grew up in the pokemon equivalent of Russia. I named it Ruthena, derived from Ruthenia. In his youth he actually was a champion pokemon trainer, but he felt too pressured by the way high-ranking trainers are treated in his home country and retired early.

He left that life to pursue snowboarding instead, something he'd already done as a hobby and felt gave him more control over his life. Some of his old team was left behind when he moved to Paldea, and are in the care of his grandmother. She was the one who raised him, his parents' whereabouts unknown.

Sephiroth would be a General, of course. I think popular fanon often puts that label on him anyway.

Angeal and Genesis are both Commanders. Zack eventually achieves this status as well after they are gone, though there's not as many soldiers for him to command.

Kunsel is a Corporal. Roche keeps slacking off to hang out on his motorbike and doesn't achieve the rank of Sargent until Rebirth.
