I just want to say thank you to you all. You've all been so gracious to me and kind and so completely welcoming it's touched my heart. That's why it hurts me so much to say this, but I think I need to step back. Just for a little while maybe? I feel like I've unintentionally invaded in a space and stepped on some toes by my being here. I've genuinely had fun and I fully intend on finishing my rp with @hazbinned, who is genuinely very kind, patient, and utterly talented. So thank you. Really, thank you. I forgot what it was like to be in a space like this and you all have my highest praise. You're all fun. That is the greatest compliment I can over hope to give fellow writers in my opinion.

I hope I can come back after a little while and we can pick up right where we left off. Maybe I'll even give actually watching the show a try in the meantime! LOL! I will be on my Jonathan Crane blog if you want to pop by. @rance-ed and @reviviscencegruiform!

Also on the topic of my ex tbh looking back one of the most fucked things he did was make my self insert in the RP we did basically become incredibly useless and frail. Like yeah I’ll admit she was a Mary Sue who existed mainly for me to self insert in the Rance world and imagine myself going on adventures with characters from all kinds of series I liked, but this dude literally made me make her go from a strong 魔人 able to fight on par with Silky and Satella to someone who literally can’t fight at all.

I guess I did kinda carry over the frailty part, since I imagine her being a Renne type character if I’m thinking in gameplay terms, where she’s really talented with magic (and also uses a scythe!!!) but has pretty low HP and defense. Also I tend to imagine her being a healer but quite frankly healers are always the most important part of your party in an RPG.

In celebration of November being Native American Heritage Month, here’s a masterlist below compiled of over 90+ Comanche faceclaims categorised by gender with their occupation and ethnicity denoted if there was a reliable source. The Comanche are a Native American and Native Mexican tribe who historically have lived in a region they call “Comancheria”, which encompasses the US states of Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas and the Mexican state of Chihuahua. The majority of Comanche now live in Oklahoma or Texas. If you want an extra challenge use random.org to pick a random number! Of course everything listed below are just suggestions and you can pick whichever faceclaim or whichever project you desire.

Art Notes

Whoof, couple of things to cover here! I guess first up I’ll cover the things I wish I’d been able to fit in but didn’t find room for:

She had two poodles named Sabu and Rodney, and she’d often ride around with one on each knee.

She was the first black woman to ride motorcycle in every one of the lower 48 states, and made motorcycle trips to Brazil, Haiti, and parts of Europe. One source claimed she made a trip to Europe every year from 1953 on.

She was pretty intensely Catholic, and repeatedly credited The Man Upstairs with her success.

As for the artwork, starting with the poster image:

I wanted to portray her sleeping on her bike, as that visual stood out to me most about her story. The racist sign in the background is something I wrestled with — I wanted an oppositional force in the image that she was in some way overcoming. So while the gas station is looming over her, it’s obscured in darkness, sandwiched between the lighter values of her and the night sky. The sky here represents some of her faith, as she’s looking to The Man Upstairs, who’s obliquely looking over her.

I redrew her face 2 or 3 times to get the proper expression. I wanted her to recognize the racist situation she was in, while also triumphing over it. While I felt that would be evident with the context of the text in the comic, this image had to stand alone — it’d be the thumbnail image for any link to this entry, and many people on the Internet don’t click through and read the whole thing.

Of the comic itself:

The whole thing rests, for me, on that quote at the end – it sums up who she is and what she was looking for, and her life’s journey.

That said, I honestly want to go back and rewrite it a bit, as I feel the wording doesn’t have the impact it should.

I also want to add in some backgrounds here and there. It feels a bit cramped and rushed to me. I’ve been exhausted from a month of nonstop 14-16 hour work days, and I sadly can’t budget any more time to this entry. So this is where it is for now, and I need to get back to working on book two. Hopefully I can come back to it later. Art: never finished, only abandoned.
