My fav pakistani dramayyy (even tho no one asked lmao):
1. PARIZAAD istg i can‘t believe I was MISSING OUT ON THIS MASTERPIECE THIS WHOLE TIME, I don‘t think I have to say much JUST 10/10
2. TERE BIN guys the cast!!! love seeing wahaj ali on screen, I just had to watch others dramas too where he plays the main lead bc I just fell in love w him, his acting is *chef‘s kiss* 🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼 and don‘t get me started on yumna zaidi, fr one of my fav actresses in lollywood
3. Hum tum and suno chanda are kinda on the same level for me, both very funny (and that means something bc I rarely find tv shows funny) and LOVEDDDD the cast in both of them!!!! I mean NOOOO ONE could‘ve played jia better than iqra aziz (same goes to ramsha khan as neha in hum tum) —> forgot to mention Ishq jalebi that was a good one too (ofc w wahaj🦋)
4. Khuda aur mohabbat (s3)…. reeealllyyy enjoyed this one even tho I‘m not a big fan of feroze khan (anymore) but I loved the spiritual vibe and the forbidden love typa trope… but the ending had me shitting tears istg
5. Mushkil was deff worth watching despite having the urge to punch the air every 5 min cuz of the main leads (everyone who has watched it knows what I‘m talking about lmao)
PLEEEASEEEEE leave some recs if anyone knows some good pak dramas!!!!

[ad_1] Jannat Se Aagay is one of television’s more recent offerings, starring well-known names like Kubra Khan, Ramsha Khan and Mirza Gohar Rasheed. The serial attempts to tell the story behind the realities of show business in a time of morning shows. However, the project has been met with criticism by the morning show pioneer, Nadia Khan, herself. It’s director, Haseeb Hassan, however, hasn’t taken lightly to her words as he criticised the actor for not “[delivering an] intelligent analysis and constructive critique while adhering to ethical standards.” The popular host herself appeared on Kya Drama Hai with Mukarram Kaleem along with Rubina Ashraf and Marina Khan. On the talk show, the actors were asked to give their opinions on multiple serials, during which Khan expressed a particular distaste for Jannat Se Aagay. The actor said she was offended by what was being portrayed about a culture she was responsible for helping establish: “Ham ne bohat achay achay kaam kiye hain aur koi ous kaam ko gaali de aur itna negatively bura project kare toh dukh hota hai (We have done a lot of good work and if someone curses it and projects it in such a negative light then it hurts).”  The host even asked Khan why she disliked the show so much given its fictitious nature, to which she responded, “It’s not fiction. Some of these things have happened, everybody knows. But a lot of good work has been done as well.”  To this, Hasan lamented how celebrities hold the power to shape opinions but, “too often, they wield it carelessly.” The director wrote on his Instagram, “You educate children [with] the consequences of their behaviour through fiction. Similarly, you laud our national heroes; sometimes we portray corrupt police of government officers as characters. Andhera Ujala was a prime example but no one ever took it personally and said ‘keelein chubh rahi hain!”   [ad_2]

I’ve also followed you for years. I won’t pretend to know your exact tastes but I have noticed that I tend to like the dramas and shows you’re hyped about.
I also find FT unwatchable. I feel similarly about most ramadan dramas. They’re mostly formulaic with the same over the top acting; I watched the first three episodes of FT and got bored. Oddly the one ramadan drama of recent years that I liked was the ramsha khan and Ahad Raza Mir one because that one was a little less over the top than others. I think there comes an age where you’re just like, I don’t want to watch characters flailing around like fish out of water (quite literally) for a few weeks and then watch them fall in love.
one thing I am on the way of fully accepting is that I grow and change as a person. so my tastes don't remain constant. I want the media I am consuming to grow with me and that is not something I am feeling in Pakistani dramas a LOT. so I either go back to the nostalgia road and feed myself scraps leftover of the old passion I used to have for things or I simply wait for something new to spark that joy in me. i am open to new and interesting things from PakDramas, i AM! I get hyped up by teasers that look exciting and I genuinely anticipate the new projects. was I not excited for Mohabbat Gumshuda Meri because of how refreshing the teasers looked? but when the final product does not live up to the initial looks i just find myself not willing to spend in a lot of energy into it.
i still love escapism and fun and fantasy and magic and I am still eager to dive completely in love with a piece of media that it consumes me thoroughly. i cannot act like the same person i was some years ago so my methods of engaging with the said media have changed. crisis wala point hai, I know, but ab yehi hai.
With Hum Tum..god that was such a wasted potential all due to the ensemble chemistry being a flat line. the underlying theme of the show about children's expectations from their parents and the main ship of the show being frenemies mostly due of the envy they had for each other..it was so delicious but the execution was an utter disaster. there was no charm no chemistry and IT'S THINGS LIKE THIS THAT PISS ME OFF LIKE WHY WHY WHYYYY WON'T YOU PUT IN SOME MORE EFFORT ????? KAB TAK 'haan bass chalta hai~" SE KAAM CHALANA PADEGA?!?!?

queer aspects and the ‘dulhan’
looking at south asian drama through a queer lens
i’ll be taking a WIDE swerve from the cannons of the shows in this post, but it is also something i’ve wanted to write about for a long time. the thing is, a lot of pakistani media has queer undertones- this can be unintentional or intentional. going by the messages and usual content/content consumers, i’ll go with it being unintentional. which isn’t that much of a stretch because there’s such a thing as being so extremely heteronormative that you swerve into the queer. which is fine and good! because unlike as portrayed in pakistani dramas so far, queer people do exist in asia as well, including pakistan.
1. let’s first appreciate the beautiful shots from this entire wedding scene- the dresses, setting, makeup, shot-angle, e v e r y t h i n g is stunning!
taken out of context, they could just be tragic lovers, not doomed to expulsion, but occasional inner anguish from one side of the family who couldn’t accept their union. OR theirs could be an arranged marriage, one of convenience and compromise, till the brides end up falling in love at some point in their marriage

2. i felt a bit iffy about posting these what with the characters being related in the drama, b u t, taken out of context, they would make for a lovely couple and an interesting story. forget hamna and rumi’s story and reimagine them as different people?
what tragedy or misunderstanding could have brought them both to tears in the first photo?
the second photo certainly looks like happy scene after they’ve both said their vows and become officially married.

side note: it goes without saying that i was extremely hesitant of making this post because of possibly triggering people. but queerness is natural and not a taboo, and its about time desi people stopped treating it as such. even if you don’t accept it, at least don’t verbally/physically attack people from having different opinions, interpretations, and ways of living.
in any case, this is the first time i’ve found myself this invested in pakistani dramas/characters- which could mean a lot of things, including: these characters are either written much better than usual; OR i’m becoming more used to this genre of drama. either way, it’s pretty interesting and a nice change for me.
dramas in post:
khuda aur mohabbat s3 (you don’t need to watch the first 2 seasons to make sense of it)
