Nah, I’m just in a bad mood today in general, and last week there were a bunch of shitty posts on my dash that were literally "I don’t think there needs to be more women in Toku" “Toku is aimed at little boys so there don’t need to be more female characters in it I don’t get why people are worked up over needing more representation”, and “saying there should be more female characters in shows that aren’t killed off for being empowered briefly is racist because Japan’s society is naturally more sexist”

So my ability to discern “hey this is an improvement” posts from “this is good enough and silly wimminz need to stop whining” posts is a bit shot tonight.

… To keep seeing people be like ‘yeah I skipped 01 but Saber is really interesting’ whereas I’m like ‘I will happily criticise 01 to hell and back, but I ultimately enjoyed it and found the characters really engaging, whereas I haven’t been able to make myself watch even a single episode of Saber’…

Realisation of the day…

… I can count on one hand the number of KR series’ where I’ve been more interested in the primary than the secondary.

There’s a few more where I can admit to being at least almost equally fond of the primary, some moreso than others.

Equally few are the ones where I genuinely dislike the primary for whatever reason (I’m not much for vehemently disliking characters).

Favourite character: Ron. I mean. Ren.

Funniest character: Shinji and Ron I mean Ren as a duo are pretty entertaining.

Best-looking character: Hmm… I think I have to go w/ Ron I mean Ren again. Though fortune teller dude was pretty attractive, too.

3 favourite ships: From what I have watched, I’m pretty down w/ Shinji and Ren. Including the fortune teller guy whose name I cannot remember and I feel bad for in that in some way is also cool. Oh, and Takaoka and Goro. … Those where their names, right? The lawyer dude and hie Yakuza bf. Wow, why can I suddenly not remember the names of anyone in Ryuki?

Least favourite character: Uhhhh… Probably the snake dude w/ the too much cleavage. I tired of him pretty quickly.

Least favourite ship: Gonna be honest, fortune teller and that crab dude (he was a crab, right) from the Rider Time special, bc of the way it was portrayed. There was some implications about that that were Not Great. Though I guess some kudos for trying?

Reason why I watch it: Shinji and Ron I mean Ren’s giant leather coat. I dunno why but it was so funny to me.

Why I started watching it: Trying to explore some of the ‘older’ Rider seasons.

Like I said, I must confess that I have not watched all of it, and so my knowledge of it is incomplete. Also, I have apparently just forgotten everyone’s name except Shinji and Ron’s. Ren’s.

Ex-Aid!

Ah, Ex-Aid. What a weird, strange ride that was. I am forced to admit I enjoyed it.

Favourite character: In the end, I think Graphite takes the cake (literally ^^).

Funniest character: Hmm… Gonna go w/ Kiriya and Kuroto, mainly bc the actors just had really great chemistry. Finding Kuroto’s comic relief style funny from a distance is, like, one of my guilty secrets.

Best-looking character: Graphite and Hiiro.

3 favourite ships: Parad and Graphite, though I didn’t realise that until later… I had a soft spot for Hiiro and Emu, too.

Least favourite character: Parad. Outside of his relationship w/ Graphite, I couldn’t stand him.

Least favourite ship: Parad and Emu. I’d really rather not go into it.

Reason why I watch it: Come just to check out the Rider series for a bit, stay bc of the angry dragon viking computer virus and the grumpy pretty boy surgeon.

Why I started watching it: I always try to at least check out the current Rider season these days.

Ex-Aid certainly happened. Didn’t it. Hoo boy. I have a bunch of mixed feelings about this one.

… It was fairly fleeting, but I always love me some ‘I’m only helping bc you’re here,’ and it was very cute how the three main Bugsters went right to each other (w/ Graphite even repeatedly taking Parad’s arm like he was asking if he was okay) after the fight…

Not sure how I feel about the plot, but I’ll take any excuse for Graphite to be back. ^^

favorite thing about them: Iwanaga Tetsuya is not afraid to let loose, and I’m not even sure they needed to pay him in the end. I would watch that man read the phonebook.

least favorite thing about them: Whatever the heck that nonsense movie they tried to resolve his character w/ was. Look, just give it here, Toei. I’ll write it.

favorite line: I don’t actually know if I have one… Does him typing count?

brOTP: Gonna be honest, to the degree that I think the man is capable of having friends… Him and Kiriya. If only bc Iwanaga and Onozuka had a ridiculous amount of chemistry.

OTP: None. Not much of ‘one true pairing’ person. Though in the name of disclosure… Would… Also be intrigued by him and Kiriya again.

nOTP: Uh. I dunno, him and Masamune? … No. No. Nope. Why did I make myself think of that. Oh god.

random headcanon: Kuroto came very close to being a fairly normal, if ridiculously rich and w/ a very distant father, kid until his mother’s health took a drastic turn for the worse.

unpopular opinion: I… Find him funny. I don’t know how actually ‘unpopular’ that opinion is, but… I feel ashamed. ^^;

… Okay, apparently this is the only picture of him I have saved. It’s titled ‘WHAT’ for some reason, I presume in reference to his posing… I really thought I had the high kick somewhere on here, but I guess not. ^^

(actually, I think my favourite picture would be that gif of him bouncing back and forth while the others look on in disgust and Nico hides behind Taiga until Kiriya smacks him on the head to make him stop… But I don’t remember where I saw that)

Spoilers for the GenmVSLazer special: Kuroto did end up sorta sacrificing himself for Kiriya. The way there and the reasoning how/why they went about it is Takahashi-weird, but that ending scene where it's explained that Kuroto gave his life for Kiriya made him actually a bit more sympathetic where even Kiriya was like "okay, maybe there is still something good (as small as it is) inside Kuroto".

I think it is my new goal in life to make the phrase ‘Takahashi Weirdness™’ a thing. ^^;

But yeah, I remember hearing that that was the general plot, which was what I was kind of hoping for. I think the part that put me off was some of the writing on the subject… I remember seeing a quote from Emu in the film that was… A little ‘hm’ for me, and I seem to recall Kiriya’s ending speech to be a bit odd, along w/ Kuroto’s ghost appearing (?) and saying something about being born in the wrong era? Which, while I do subscribe to the ‘Kuroto might have been different if it hadn’t been for his situation esp growing up’… I don’t think it was the ‘era’ that was wrong. Though maybe that was bc they tried to say ‘if my father had been different’ or something, and the executives vetoed it. Also wasn’t Masamune, like… Really ooc in that? Some crap about his wife being ‘alive in his heart?��� Then again, I got all this second hand, so I can’t actually remember perfectly. ^^
