Best Young Talents Who Emerged at RCB
Over the years, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has been home to some of the biggest superstars in cricket. From Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers to Chris Gayle and Glenn Maxwell, the franchise has always had its share of global icons. But RCB’s contribution to Indian cricket goes far beyond the glitz and glamour of marquee players. One of the most underrated aspects of the team is its knack for identifying and nurturing young talent. Several budding cricketers have used RCB as a launchpad to announce themselves on the big stage. Let’s take a closer look at some of the best young talents who emerged at RCB.
1. Virat Kohli
It’s almost impossible to start this list without Virat Kohli. While he was already a U-19 World Cup-winning captain when he joined RCB in 2008, Kohli truly grew into a global cricketing icon with the franchise. His development from a fiery youngster to one of the most consistent batters in world cricket happened under RCB’s roof. RCB stuck with him through his formative years, and he repaid the faith with record-breaking performances season after season.
2. Devdutt Padikkal
Devdutt Padikkal made headlines with his graceful stroke play and composed temperament. He burst onto the IPL scene in 2020 and instantly impressed with a string of half-centuries at the top of the order. Despite being in a team full of experienced international stars, Padikkal held his own and often outshone some of his more seasoned teammates. His left-handed elegance reminded fans of classic openers, and his calm demeanor made him a standout among young players.
3. Mohammed Siraj
Though Siraj started his IPL journey with another franchise, it was at RCB that he truly came into his own. Initially known for his raw pace but erratic control, Siraj transformed into a dependable new-ball bowler under RCB’s guidance. His memorable performance against Kolkata, where he bowled two maiden overs and took three wickets, highlighted his growth. Siraj’s development at RCB eventually led to his rise in international cricket, where he became a regular fixture in India’s Test and ODI squads.

4. Harshal Patel
Harshal Patel had been a part of the IPL circuit for several years, but it was his return to RCB in 2021 that saw him explode into the spotlight. Used as a specialist death bowler, Harshal’s variations and composure made him a lethal weapon. He ended the 2021 season as the highest wicket-taker, showcasing how the right role and trust from a franchise can unlock a player's full potential. His story is a testament to how a second chance at the right place can revive a career.
5. Rajat Patidar
Rajat Patidar grabbed attention with his fearless batting during the 2022 season. His century in the playoffs against Lucknow SuperGiants was a turning point — not just for that match, but for his career. Coming in under pressure, he played with maturity, flair, and confidence well beyond his experience. That knock stamped him as a big-match player and earned him recognition as one of the brightest young batters in the league.
6. Shahbaz Ahmed
A relatively quiet performer, Shahbaz Ahmed made his presence felt with crucial contributions in tight games. His left-arm spin and handy lower-order batting made him a valuable utility player. RCB backed him through multiple seasons, and he often delivered in clutch moments. Shahbaz represents the kind of young, all-round talent that every team wants — someone who quietly gets the job done.
Final Thoughts
RCB may still be chasing its elusive IPL trophy, but the franchise's contribution to shaping the future of Indian cricket is undeniable. By investing in young talent and giving them a platform to shine, RCB has played a crucial role in nurturing the next generation of stars. Whether it's through breakout performances or gradual growth, these players prove that RCB isn’t just about entertainment — it's also about evolution.

“Use Virat Kohli’s experience, but stay true to who you are” - AB de Villiers’ advice for RCB captain Rajat Patidar
South Africa legend AB de Villiers feels Rajat Patidar’s biggest challenge while leading Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) during the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season will be dealing with insecurity. RCB released Faf du Plessis, who led the team for three seasons from IPL 2022 to 2024, ahead of the mega auction. In February earlier this year, Patidar was appointed the new captain…

Rajat Patidar was selected captain of the RCB before the 2025 IPL.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has named 31-year-old middle order batsman Rajat Patidar as their skipper for the forthcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season. On Thursday, February 13, the franchise made the news during a gathering at the KSCA.
Faf du Plessis, who had led the team in previous seasons, was discharged, leaving the Bengaluru franchise without a captain candidate for the 2025 campaign. The seventh player to lead RCB is Patidar, who earlier this season guided Madhya Pradesh to the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final.
Regarding his captaincy and recalling the beginning of the leadership discussions, Patidar stated: "I believe I spoke with Mo [Bobat, RCB director of cricket] about this last year. Are you interested in taking on the role of captain? Mo inquired. I therefore informed him that I would prefer to captain the state team before captaining the RCB. I then received a suggestion that I might be promoted to captain. Along with that, I was a little pleased that I could still clearly sense the trip from where I began my IPL career.
Since making his IPL debut in 2021, Patidar has been a member of the team. He has played in 27 games for RCB, scoring 799 runs with a strike rate of 158.85. He can easily dominate pace and spin. He, along with Virat Kohli and Yash Dayal, was one of RCB's three retainers before to the massive auction. It cost INR 11 crore to retain him.
He didn't sell at the auctions, though, after being cut from the team before the 2022 campaign. Due to Luvinth Sisodia's regrettable injury during the 2022 season, Patidar was given another opportunity to play for the RCB as a replacement. With 333 runs in 8 innings, including a century, he left a lasting impact and has since grown to be a vital member of the team.
The Royal Challengers, who have been captained by Virat Kohli and du Plessis throughout the years, are taking a new turn with Patidar's appointment. In May 2011, Kohli took over as captain for the first time, replacing Daniel Vettori, who missed three games. In 2012, he assumed full-time captaincy of the team, a position he held until 2021.

Under Kohli's leadership, RCB qualified for the 2015 playoffs and finished second the following year, during which the star batsman amassed a record 973 runs. In 2020 and 2021, they also made it to the playoffs. In the 2022–24 cycle, when du Plessis took over as captain after Kohli resigned, Royal Challengers also qualified for the playoffs in two of those seasons. While du Plessis was recuperating from a rib injury and only played as an Impact Player, the veteran Indian hitter commanded the team in three games in 2023.
"I could speak for quite a long time about Rajat, but I've settled on three main things that I thought might be interesting to share," Andy Flower, the coach, stated. The first is that Rajat exudes a composure and simplicity that I believe will be very helpful as a captain and leader, especially in the IPL. As is well known, the IPL is one of the world's top contests, and as such, it comes with pressure. And in the early stages of that event, I believe Rajat's natural calm and straightforward manner will work to his advantage.
"And, like all of our decisions, his will be put to the test, but I believe these traits will serve him well. We extensively observed Rajat throughout his time as Madhya Pradesh's captain in the Syed Mushtaq Ali competition, and we were impressed by his attributes. My second observation about him is that, although he is naturally a quiet person, he shows concern for others around him.
"The guys he plays with and shares a dressing room with are important to him. And in my opinion, that is a quality that indicates that he will immediately be respected and cared for by others. As a leader, those attributes are crucial because they inspire followers to follow and support you. After that, the third thing that strikes me about him is that he has a steeliness, strength, and tenacity.
"I've personally witnessed it happen when I try to instruct him in the nets and he refuses to listen. However, it's evident in his playing style. "You can see how courageous he is when playing the game," Flower continued. And I believe that he has a characteristic that will be crucial for him to endure the ups and downs that are unavoidable when playing in the IPL and now taking on the role of captain of a major IPL team for another year. Therefore, I believe that Rajat will benefit much from those attributes. We are aware of them.

Kl Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Suryakumar, Shubman Gill set to play Duleep Trophy
IPL.

[ad_1] Luvnith Sisodia (left), Suyansh Shedge(Credit: Instagram) The Indian Premier League (IPL) is about some of the best in the business showcasing their skill to the rest of the cricketing landscape. The glitzy and glamorous world of IPL is also about some relatively unknown names making their presence felt. With the focus on India’s domestic cricket, at RevSportz, we list out talented cricketers who could hog the limelight in the upcoming IPL. Delhi Capitals and a cluster of talented cricketers Vipraj Nigam – In the 2024 UP T20 league, the leg-spinner was the second-highest wicket-taker with 20 wickets at an average of 13.15. He also had his share of success in the 2024 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy with 9 wickets for Uttar Pradesh. Nigam is mostly a conventional leg-spinner, who imparts a decent amount of revs on the ball. He can bat a bit too, although he hasn’t done anything of note for UP in the domestic circuit. Madhav Tiwari – The all-rounder from Madhya Pradesh has been scouted more on potential than performance. In the MP T20 league, he compiled 72 runs and took three wickets. But those runs came at a strike-rate of over 200. Recently, in an intra-squad match, he was seen pulling Navdeep Saini for a six. Tiwari can also do a bit of hit-the-deck bowling. Manvanth Kumar – Both Madhav and Manvanth could be employed as Impact Player options. The tall and wiry all-rounder’s best performances came in the Maharaja T20 trophy in 2024, where he was only two wickets behind the highest wicket-taker of the tournament, LR Kumar. In the Bengaluru Blasters-Hubli Tigers game, it was Manvanth’s heroics with the bat that helped Hubli emerge victorious in the third Super Over. Manvanth also cracked an imposing 121 in the CK Nayudu Trophy game against Odisha. Manvanth Kumar (PC: Maharaja Trophy) The ever-smiling and unassuming all-rounder once told this writer that Ben Stokes is his favourite cricketer. DC would hope that Manvanth would follow in his hero’s footsteps and put on a few game-breaking performances. “I like Stokes, the kind of role he plays for the team,” he said. “I like his mindset, how he keeps getting the breakthroughs when the team needs it the most.” Luvnith Sisodia – Every single time you recall Luvnith’s name, only one word flashes in the mind – talent. KKR’s swashbuckling batter can essay cuts and pulls alongside those hoicks and lap shots. Unfortunately, his career has been shaped by fate. Recently, it seemed as if he was all set to make his Ranji debut for Karnataka after smashing Shardul Thakur to all corners of the ground in a KSCA-organised three-day tournament. But as fate would have it, he suffered a wrist injury. Luvnith Sisodia in action. PC – Maharaja Trophy In the 2022 IPL, too, he had an injury. And that meant RCB went back to Rajat Patidar, who in turn is now the captain of the franchise. “My entire journey has been a rollercoaster,” he quipped when he spoke to RevSportz. “There was one match that we were playing at Eden Gardens, against Punjab, in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. I happened to drop a catch, and we lost that game. From there on, I didn’t play senior cricket for two years. Now I am going to kick-start my journey for Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens. It is very poetic.” DC also have Ajay Mandal and Sameer Rizvi. Rizvi, in particular, will be looking to impress after a rather modest season for CSK last year. Suryansh Shedge – Punjab Kings’ power-hitter gave a peek into his pyrotechnics in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025, where he amassed 131 runs at an average of 43.66 and at an astounding strike-rate of 251.92. He has also bagged eight wickets in nine T20s and nine scalps in seven List A matches. Corbin Bosch and Xavier Bartlett – We also have to touch upon a couple of overseas cricketers. The well-built Bosch, who replaced Lizaad Williams at Mumbai Indians, hits the deck hard at good pace. He is also a useful batter, as seen by his first-class average of over 41. Recently, Bosch impressed
during his Test debut against Pakistan, bagging five wickets in the game and scoring 81 runs. Meanwhile, PBKS’ Bartlett hails from Queensland. The fast bowler has the potential to play across formats for Australia. He has already represented his country in a few limited-overs games, and can swing and seam the ball upfront. Bartlett is also good enough at bowling the heavy ball at decent pace and can land a few yorkers in the slog. In the 2024-25 BBL, he took 12 wickets at 27.75 for Brisbane Heat.
