House Speaker Mike Johnson said Tuesday that before publicly releasing footage of the US Capitol attack on January 6, 2021, the faces of the mob will be blurred to protect them from the Justice Department.

The Louisiana Republican said during a news conference that he wants to make sure rioters don’t get prosecuted.

“We’re going through a methodical process of releasing them as quickly as we can,” Johnson said. “As you know, we have to blur some of the faces of persons who participated in events of that day because we don’t want them to be retaliated against and to be charged by the DOJ and to have other, you know, concerns and problems.”

He added: “So that’s a slow process to get it done.”

Federal investigators and prosecutors already have footage from the Capitol’s security cameras and have used it to charge and prosecute members of the mob that day.

But online sleuths and individuals from the public have previously helped to identify many people from images taken during the riot, and blurring the faces of people at the Capitol that day could hamper the potential for additional public tips.

In a statement posted online, Raj Shah, a spokesperson for Johnson, emphasized the speaker wants to blur faces “to prevent all forms of retaliation” from “non-governmental actors.”

“Faces are to be blurred from public viewing room footage to prevent all forms of retaliation against private citizens from any non-governmental actors. The Department of Justice already has access to raw footage from January 6, 2021,” Shah wrote.

According to the latest update from the Justice Department, 683 people have pleaded guilty to federal charges stemming from their actions on January 6, and 127 individuals have been found guilty through trials in DC’s district court.

The Justice Department has previously asked the public’s help in identifying over 300 more individuals at the Capitol that day, and the FBI, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and Washington, DC police, continue to offer a half-a-million dollar reward for information leading to the arrest of the individual who planted pipe bombs on January 5, 2021, near the Republican National Committee and Democratic National Committee.

In mid-November, Johnson announced that he planned to release the Capitol Hill security footage that does not contain sensitive information but did not mention blurring out faces.

“When I ran for speaker, I promised to make accessible to the American people the 44,000 hours of video from Capitol Hill security taken on January 6, 2021,” Johnson said in a statement at the time, adding that there would be a public viewing room to “ensure that every citizen can view every minute of the videos uncensored.”

Priyanka Gandhi Joins Wrestlers Protest, Asks Cops To Show FIR Copy

The Delhi Police, which functions under Amit Shah's Home Ministry, filed the two first information reports (FIRs) hours after the Supreme Court ordered them to do so.

New Delhi: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra met protesting wrestlers at Delhi's Jantar Mantar today to express solidarity with their demand for action against the alleged sexual harassment of women athletes by superiors. The wrestlers have been on a sit-in at Jantar Mantar demanding the arrest of Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh on complaints of sexual harassment.

At the protest venue, the Congress general secretary hit out at the Delhi Police for not providing a copy of the First Information Report, or FIR, filed against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

"I don't have any expectations from the PM (Narendra Modi), because if he is worried about these wrestlers, then why has he not talked to them or met them yet. Why the govt is trying to save him (Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh," she said.

The Delhi Police on Friday filed two cases against the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief after the Supreme Court ordered them to do so. One of the FIRs is over a complaint of sexual harassment by a minor, filed under the stringent Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, which gives no scope for bail.

The Delhi Police will pursue the case actively, sources said.

But despite the assurance of police action, the wrestlers said they will continue their sit-in protest demanding the "immediate arrest" of the WFI chief.

"We respect Supreme Court's order, but we don't have faith in Delhi Police. This fight is not for an FIR. This fight is to punish people like him. He needs to be in jail and stripped of his portfolios," the wrestlers said.

Earlier this week, Priyanka Gandhi had slammed the government, saying that the pleas of the sportspersons, who enhance the country's honour, were being ignored. She had asserted that "when the arrogance of a party and its leaders" is sky high, then such voices are crushed.

Congress leaders such as Bhupinder Hooda, Deepender Hooda and Udit Raj had also joined the protesting wrestlers at Jantar Mantar earlier this week to express solidarity with them.

Mr Singh, who is also a BJP MP, welcomed the Supreme Court's order to file the police case into allegations of sexual harassment against him.

Mr Singh told reporters the wrestlers should have waited for the report of a committee that was tasked to look into the matter before they decided to sit on a protest in Delhi's Jantar Mantar.

"I am happy with the judiciary's decision. The Delhi Police will investigate the allegations and I am ready to cooperate with them in every possible way. No one is bigger than the judiciary in this country. The order has come to file an FIR (first information report). The government had also said it had no objection to filing an FIR. I am not larger than the Supreme Court. I welcome the order," Mr Singh told reporters.

Facts about Shaheed Shivaram Rajguru

1. Shivaram Rajguru was an Indian revolutionist from Pune, Maharashtra. He was born at Khed near Pune on 24 August, 1908 to Parvati Devi and Harinarain Rajguru. The birthplace Khed near Pune has been renamed as Rajgurunagar in his honour.

2. At Hisar Haryana, there is a shopping complex known as Rajguru Market. In 1953, this complex was named in his honour.

3. He was good at studies. His father died when he was only six years old. His brother took care of him and a widowed mother. His family had some dreams for Shivaram Rajguru but destiny was different. He was inspired by the Lokmanya Tilak's revolutionary ideas.

4. At the age of about 15, he went to Varanasi and took admission to a school for Sanskrit where he found his fellow revolutionaries. It is said that to reach Varanasi, he walked six days.

5. He joined the Hindustan Socialist Republican Army. The main aim was to overthrow the British colonisers. He wanted to gain Indian freedom from British rule by any means required.

6. He became a colleague of Bhagat Singh and Sukhdev and took part in the assassination of a British Police officer J.P Saunders at Lahore in 1928.

7. Their actions of killing the British officer were to avenge the death of Lala Lajpat Rai who had died in a protest against the Simon Commission in October 1928. Due to the Lathi charge by the British police in the protest, Lala Lajpat Rai injured very badly and died.

8. After the assassination, Rajguru then went into hiding in Nagpur. He took shelter in the house of an RSS worker and also met Dr. K. B. Hedgewar. But on his travel to Pune, he however was finally arrested.

9. The three brave revolutionaries Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru were hanged on 23 March, 1931. Their bodies were cremated on the banks of the River Sutlej.

10. Shivaram Rajguru was only 23 years old when he became a martyr. He was known to have a fearless spirit and unconquerable courage. And also regarded as the gunman of Bhagat Singh's party.

He joined the revolutionaries at a young age due to the brutal atrocities that the Imperial British Raj inflicted on India. However, in the pages of Indian history, Shivaram Rajguru will always be remembered for his valour and dedication of his life towards India’s independence.

Breaking News: Mamata Banerjee Commits Another Blunder by Conspiring Against West Bengal Governor

A temporary female staff member of the Raj Bhavan or Governor’s House in Kolkata has filed a complaint against the West Bengal governor CV Ananda Bose alleging that she has been sexually harassed by the governor. This immediately became the top 10 breaking news in India as it is a serious allegation against very high constitutional incumbent, the governor of a state. That is the technical description of the incident wherein a complaint has been filed against the governor. However, no action can be initiated against a serving governor because he enjoys constitutional immunity by law.

The governor, Ananda Bose has taken serious objection to this allegation and has already barred entry of the West Bengal Police along with a number of Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders including ministers into the Raj Bhavan premises in the state.

Surely the governor knows what he is saying but then such an allegation should be taken with all the seriousness it deserves and the matter should be investigated by the appropriate departments at the right time.

Is it low level politics of vendetta by the TMC?

Immediately after the woman filed her case at the Hare Street police station in Kolkata, mainstream media in Kolkata and other parts of the state went into an overdrive on the matter.

Soon it broke into the top 10 breaking news in India and the matter seems to have been orchestrated for a trial of the governor by the media since he cannot be legally tried while he holds the post.

The governor on his part is quite sure of where he stands but if it is a fake case as the BJP and many others believe it to be, then this case is going to boomerang on the TMC after the elections.

Taking advantage of the situation, chief minister Banerjee and many of her cabinet colleagues as well as party functionaries are also trying to counter the BJP’s Sandeshkhali campaign by citing the governor as the BJP’s man.

The sheer brazenness of the TMC’s attack on the governor by comparing the allegations against him with the unprecedented sleaziness of the TMC’s sex offenders in Sandeshkhali might suggest that the charges against the governor are fake. It is another matter that over 90% of the sexual harassment cases in the country are fake.

Short term political advantage could have long term consequences for TMC

The TMC was under severe pressure on the Sandeshkhali issue and it seems to have already cost it the election as the party’s own internal survey has shown the BJP getting 32 out of the 42 seats in Bengal.

In its desperation to get back at the BJP with something similar in nature to the Sandeshkhali scandal if not in scale, the TMC seems to have stepped into a legal minefield.

It knows very well that the governor cannot be touched in any way as long as holds the post and so it was decided to slur his name and reputation with this charge.

Most of the top 10 breaking news in India have also covered the governor’s prompt action in barring entry for the state police in the Raj Bhavan premises along with some members of the state cabinet among others.

He will surely initiate legal action against the temporary female staffer of the Raj Bhavan in Kolkata and the implications could embroil the TMC and its leaders including the chief minister in a legal tangle they will find very difficult to get out of.
