Replaying Endless Summer in 2024

Sometimes having a freaking bad memory is worth it. I'm replaying Endless Summer like it's the first time, thrilled with every new discover, cuz I can't remember shit. I'm also doing everything different. I chose to save Raj but let Grace be captured because she looks so cute with the new look. And it's just so funny to me, because it's basically:

MC: We can't let Raj behind, period. *Saves Raj*

Grace definitely has her own character arc that gets shafted (the anger that’s fueled by the tense relationship with her mom), so I’d argue against the idea that a Black female character exists only to be the love interest of a white male character. Cause it’s not like the parts of her personality or actions that aren’t not linked to her romance to Aleister (which are a LOT) go away just because PB decided to stop exploring them to the conclusion she deserved.

In that vein, axing her from the narrative and Raj could be a dangerous choice, since they are two of our central characters of color who are not love interests and whose roles are more emotion-driven than action-driven. Those type of characters are often seen as being less worthy/important in narratives across fandoms due to many biases, which I’m not saying is your reasoning! It’d just be something to consider, especially when Mike is going to remain rather than either of them.

Diego’s role I’d argue is massively central to ES’s narrative too, but like Raj, he is mostly the heart to the other’s head/body. The thing about ES is that even though it’s very much an island action mystery adventure, one of the most important facets of the story is the relationships you build with and between the other characters. Grace is able to crack Aleister’s armor because he already has an attraction to her that’s based on respect for her brilliant mind; though someone else in the cast could of course break through with time and effort, no one else can serve that role the same way Grace can.

I could go on further about Raj and Diego as well, but ultimately it’s your story, so this is 100% not meant to be a mandate or even a condemnation! Just a bit of a reminder of how the way PB has treated these characters of colors in comparison to the white/lighter characters is racist in origin, so it’s something to consider to make sure our narrative choices don’t accidentally perpetuate the same.

*Madhur Bhandarkar’s Marathi film Circuitt premiere last night; Raj Babbar, Darshan Kumar,Rashmi Desai & many others graced it*

‘Circuitt’ is an upcoming Marathi film directed by Aakash Pendharkar and produced by Madhur Bhandarkar, Prabhakar Parab, Paragg Mehta and Ameet Dogra. All set to release on April 7, 2023, the movie stars Hruta Durgula, Vaibhav Tatwawadi, and Ramesh Pardeshi in the lead roles.

The film's title ‘Circuitt’ refers to the circuit of life, which is full of ups and downs, twists and turns, and unexpected events. The film revolves around the life of a young couple, played by Hruta Durgula and Vaibhav Tatwawadi, who face various challenges and obstacles in their journey of love and life. Ramesh Pardeshi plays a pivotal role in the movie, and his character adds a different dimension to the story.

GM Modular, one of the leading electrical solutions providers in India, has partnered with the film as the brand partner. The company has been associated with several successful films in the past like Tadap and Uunchai. To celebrate the association, GM organised a special screening on 6th April at PVR, Juhu. More than 400 people were present at the special screening. ZEE5 hosted a special screening of ‘India Lockdown’ in Delhi

~Director Madhur Bhandarkar and actors Shweta Basu Prasad, Prateik Babbar, Aahana Kumra, Sai Tamhankar attended the screening~

National, 26th November 2022: ZEE5, India's largest home-grown video streaming platform, held a special screening of its upcoming film ‘India Lockdown’ at Film Division Auditorium in Delhi. The much-talked about film saw attendance of notable personalities like actor-turned-politician Raj Babbar, Anu Malik and many more.

Written by Amit Joshi and Aradhana Sah with Madhur Bhandarkar, the ZEE5 Original Film is the first Hindi feature film on covid pandemic and its repercussions on the people of India. Shot in 2021, the film narrates four parallel stories of disparate characters who are catapulted into an unforeseen dramatic situation instigated by the lockdown due to the corona pandemic. Raj Babbar who is the father of actor Prateik Babbar got emotional after watching his son on the big screen. Even Prateik Babbar was overwhelmed with the love coming his way from his father and other family members.

Former member of Rajya Sabha, Raj Babbar said, India Lockdown is not just a film but an emotion and a phase that we have all gone through. Madhur Bhandarkar has done a fabulous job in making this film of different people in life and their stories on how they have spent their lockdown. Whether it’s the migrant worker or a sex worker, lockdown was a difficult time for everyone, and the stories of lockdown have been portrayed beautifully. I would request everyone to watch this film on ZEE5”.
